We chose this cruise to see the new locks of the Panama Canal which we did. We were on the same cruise ship in August and it was very good. New chef, captain, and cruise director made it a poor cruise. Main problem was the food in the dining room. Awful. Cruise director liked to hold everything in the center of the cruise ship which was not large enough for dance lessons and dancing at night. This was a poor choice. We will not use princess for a about 3 years since it was so bad which is disappointing since we just reached elite. I know Princess will not contact us as they are happy to fill up all their cruise ships for now...but that may change!!! As fof the room, it was very good and the steward was above average. Bars were great and bartender Zen was the best ever. Jun the bartender was good as well. Entertainment needs improvement. Getting on and off the ship was above average. We liked using the medallions for getting in the room and charging stuff. However, the poor food made it so our next three cruises we have signed up for will be on Holland American and Viking. Took Caribbean Princess on Jan 2, 2018 Panama Canal Cruise. 5th cruise on Princess, 9th overall. Everything as expected except condition of ship. Expected better as ship was 8 million revitalization in 2017. Excessive engine vibration noticeable throughout ship. Never felt a ship vibrate so much before. Very bad in Palm dining room. Was informed ship due for dry dock in April 2019 to fix. If they had a proper condition assessment program vibration problem might have been known at time of 2017 revitalization. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND SHIP TO ANYONE BEFORE VIBRATION PROBLEM FIXED. Also seems to impact power available for air conditioning at times. Guests who paid $4,000 for canine could not sleep because of vibration and lack of air conditioning in room. Were told that they should have spent more on a better cabin if they expected to be moved. Another cabin was flooded and were reimbursed for destroyed clothing and offered free cleaning. Hallway nearby (on port side of deck 8, wet for almost entire trip, squishy sound when you walked through. It smelled moldy for a couple of days There were faint sewerage smells in our cabin, hallway and in one of the elevators. Not all the time, but enough to notice, and we weren't the only ones with problem. Were told to call when it occurred and had to wait over half hour for someone to come. Elevator with smell was eventually shut down. Iced tea undrinkable and coffee dispensers and ice machines out of service. There was a band aid on smoke detector in room holding it together? Rug on steps to Princess Theater fairly new but not at right height, lower than rest of step (two height levels in each step, front part higher than carpet) seem easy to trip on if not careful. Should not have been allowed unsafe. Similar issue in other areas, rugs lower than surfaces they abut to. Read Less

1st time sailing with Princess, and it is the last. They said we were the inaugural sailing with the medallions, which in my opinion are a bother and did not work well - AT ALL. Ours broke mid-cruise and they asked for it and didn't return it for a day and a half. You can still use your card, and call out a four digit number (and yes everyone can hear it) to a waiter/waitress, who sometimes would take our card, and not give it back unless you go and find them, and it. The room was average, (Dolphin Deck) and not kept as clean as I would like. The cabin steward was impersonal an not friendly, and was borderline creepy. We think the steward took my wife's meds from our room, and the thumb drive I had, had been copied as we immediately got tons of new kinds of spam as soon as we got home. Should have kept that on my person. The food was ok (really, just ok, everywhere) Although we didn't try the Crown Grill steak house. We did try the Steamers Seafood (average at best) and Planks BBQ where the service was the best on the ship. Regular dining was a joke, and the service was below average. We checked our bill at guest services the last night before arrival into home part and it was about $350.00, which was about right, on the last day we left the cabin, a paper was rolled up, and places outside our cabin in the handle. It stated that we owed the cruise line over $985.00, mostly for drinks (my wife and I do drink, and did drink, but nowhere close to that much), the cruise line dismissed our dispute stating the medallion could not have made any mistakes (we only used the medallion once at the bar to purchase drinks) and the rest of the time we used our key card by stating (out loud) our 4 digit number on the card. Bad trip, bad experiences, sub-standard, unclean room and swindled on the high seas too. I am a cruise veteran and know what I am talking about. Stay far away form ANY Carnival cruise line ship, they have certainly have lowered the overall cruising standards and give little or no quality or decent service anymore. I was made to feel I was trying to take advantage of the cruise line, and as an executive for another travel provider (yes, you know who) - I was aghast at the service, food and subsequent treatment by Carnival Cruise lines. And - never, ever again. Read Less

The ship has been refurbished and the buffet has been cut down to a third of standard because Princess has two (2) new specialty restaurants (of course additional fee). The buffet has a picnic theme, subs and ready for this...at dinner...PEANUT BUTTER & JELLY SANDWICHES...unbelievable! One guest we met onboard is a professional chef in Las Vegas and he said he will never sail with Princess again. Let’s talk about the dining room experiences, the staff are so busy serving multiple tables that it takes hours (and we timed it on 2 separate occasions) to order, receive your dinner and dessert, needless to say if you wanted to catch the show in the Princess theatre you were forced to exit early. The shows were mediocre with the EXCEPTION of BRAVO, that presentation was what Princess theatre productions were 10 years ago. The comedian one night was so pathetic, my husband and I felt sorry for him and he was the talk of the guests for days. In summary the consensus amongst the guests we met in various locations and my husband and I are a huge disappointing 10 day experience. A number of guests we met this is their first cruise and they traveled from the UK and hugely disappointed, they won’t be back... Rey sad. Read Less

My wife and I cruised exclusively on Princess for many years and stayed on cruise ships months at a time. Needless to say we reached the Elite level some time ago. One of my favorite cruise ships was the old Caribbean Princess (before renovation) ugly ice cream cone and all. The food on that ship was very good. We recently took a 10 day cruise and were pleasantly surprised by the new renovation. The crew and service were terrific as usual. The new layout, decor and amenities of the Caribbean Princess were a joy to see. The cabin spacious and spotless and there are no shortage of entertainment day and night. However when we reached the buffet we were dismayed at the selection and quality of food time and again. It was by far the worst eating experience on a Princess cruise ever. Most of the meat was served stuffed with something, MeatLoaf, stuffed pork, stuffed lamb and even stuffed chicken. Sandwiches are plentiful if you want one for lunch or dinner. Cold stuffed lamb was served in a cheap gray paper plate, meatless spaghetti sauce in a jar and self service wine and beer machines. You get the drift. It is all about cutting cost and in this case to a fault. As a stock holder of CCL and frequent cruiser, I hope the food offering on the Caribbean does not become the norm on other Princess ships since I heard plenty of complaints from fellow passengers. As Platinum Elite members my wife and I have cruised with Princess many times. We have decided that our recent 5 day cruise will be our last with Princess. The cruise line's food quality and serving size has declined substantially in all of the dining areas. Very poor taste and quality, and presentation. The specialty restaurant price has increased 16% from $25 to $29 per person while the meat quality and serving sizes have deteriorated. No additional items such as lobster can be added to one's entree without an additional $29 charge. These prices have crossed the line with us. For room service, if ordering a pizza, there is a charge of $3 in addition to the service charge and requested tip. It seems Princess now nickels and dimes the passengers on each and every detail while onboard. This in spite of a $2 billion dollar profit for 2017. Although smoking is restricted in all but the starboard side and casino, we did observe vaping (electronic cigarettes) in the Crooner's bar. Vaping is just as harmful to one's health as smoking. For 2018 we cancelled two future cruises on Princess and re-booked with Holland America and Celebrity. No more Princess who has declined to the level of Carnival. Read Less

I chose Princess because I never sailed with them before. I went on my birthday and thought it would be something special and to my surprise it was very dissapointing. I suggest that more interactive activities be provided for the passengers that stay on board while in a port. The dining menu was good and the steff was great, they were very proficent and professional and was very attentive to your needs. The cabin staff was very good and provided whatever you needed. There is a lot of needed improvement in there entertainment. It would be nice if they provided more venues instead of the same two or three they schedule they just move from one place to another. I feel that Princess provides their activities for the oldest passengers when some of us are still young at heart and would like more then just flying paper airplanes, knitting and art auctions. I don't think I will be sailing with Princess again. Read Less

This is my first cruise critic review and it is negative. I have had plenty of wonderful vacations on the sea but never choose to share, I should have, now knowing what a bad experience feels like. My girlfriends and I travel once a year and this vacation was the partial Panama locks transit. there are so many things that upset me it is hard to know where to start so I will just list them. 1.) Had a suite and did not receive priority boarding, they would not move us to the front of the line because they were behind because of a medical emergency. Emergency was over, they should have moved the passengers who paid for suites and the priority boarding to the front no matter how late they were. 2.) One of our travelers had an accident day before embarkation, she needed wheelchair assistance. We phoned prior to leaving on our trip and were assured we could reserve a wheelchair on board. Waited for assistance for 2.5 hours!!! Then when she arrived on board all wheelchairs were taken. there was not one to rent, after we already phoned!! BTW, wheelchair rental $25 per day. So our friend was cabin bound for the first few days. 3.) Family suite, the room was old, dated, furniture worn, bare minimum on toiletries. We booked this specific suite, a year in advance because of the extended balcony on the front of the ship for when we went through the locks but the balcony was obstructed, not clear, it was a balcony but not glass! The part we could see through was the same size as any standard balcony yet the brochure never stated the balcony was obstructed! You know I could go on and on because this cruise really went from bad to worse, seriously there is so, so, so much more that no one would read it but let me just tell you. Avoid this cruise at all costs, save your money and find a line that treats guests better. About 20 more truly disturbing things happened such as changing my excursion form and issuing tickets to an excursion that I didn't sign up for but I didn't notice until tour day because they put the tickets in an envelope. I went back to the desk and asked to see my form, thinking wow, I made a mistake but no, the tour number had been crossed out and changed and the tour person said oh, the one you wanted was full!! Unacceptable. We went to the manager and they offered me a bottle of wine for my trouble. Wine!! I had the unlimited drink package, not to mention all of the women traveling are in the service industry. We came with cash as well as pre-paying our gratuities and tipped everyone that served us because that's how we live. I even gave the jackass that issued the tickets $5. Again, just the tip of the iceberg. Never again Princess, Harmony of the Seas here we come! Read Less

My husband and I sailed on the Caribbean Princess Nov. 20th. thru the 30th. We did the Panama Canal. The ship was beautiful along with our room and the ports of call were amazing. This was our fifth time cruising with Princess. The first night we decided to go to the dining room, when arriving we were told about a 30 minute wait, not a problem for us at all. When we got to the end of the line we were asked if we would like to share a table or have a private table for two, we opted for the table for two, were told to go wait in the lounge and handed a buzzer. When the buzzer went off 20 minutes later we were taken to the Palm dining room upstairs and led to a table to share. We told the host we didn't wait almost an hour to share a table, he said this is not sharing a table I said yes it is. He got aggravated and took us back to the hostess desk where we were taken to another table which was near the staff's station where they pour coffee, tea and water. It was so noisy that we left and went to the buffet. We have been on Princess cruises where the first night they have a wonderful seafood buffet. Not this time, the food looked horrible. So many food items not labeled. I had to ask what kind of fish they were serving. I was told it was basa and tilapia, two fish I refuse to eat. Come to find out they only have one side of the buffet open and you have to walk all the way around to the closed side of the buffet to eat because the open side is too crowded and by the time you get there your food is cold. Really felt bad for the elderly that had to walk all the way around. The next day we went to Princess Cay. What a disappointment. Waited in a long line for lunch and then when we got to the buffet they were out of most of the food. When I asked one of the staff if I could have a hamburger bun his response was "We are finished." I looked at my watch which read 12:55, they were supposed to be serving til 1:30. We had a hamburger patty, lettuce and tomato and a banana for lunch. Decided to get a tropical drink at one of the outdoor bars, was told it was closing and would have to walk quite a way to get a drink at another bar. i looked at my watch which said 1:45, we were on the island til 5:00. I just said forget it!!! The breakfasts at the buffet were awful. They serve watery scrambled eggs....we opted for fruit every morning. Even the muffins were dry and bland. Had lunch in the dining room one day. I had a hamburger and fries which were good, my husband had a club sandwich was the saddest looking one I had ever seen. He had me try his potato chips which were stale. Most nights we tried to get in to the dining room but were told was a 45 minute wait, so back to the disgusting buffet. Only had one good meal and that was in the Crown Grill. We figured out that Princess is now making their food taste bad so you will eat in their restaurants you have to pay for. You had to get to the shows 30-45 minutes before they started or you had to stand which we did for one. One morning while using the gym I noticed several people waiting for a stretch class to begin, overheard one of them saying "I guess the instructor isn't going to show up again." Pretty bad when instructors don't even show up to teach a class. My husband noticed one morning where he watched an instructor leave a class go eat something in his office and then go teach the class while chewing on food, very unprofessional. I had to use the bathroom that the gym and spa shared one morning, walked in and one was out of order so I went into the other one, what a disgusting mess on the floor that I ended up cleaning up myself with paper towels. On the way out I said to one of the Ukrainian girls that worked in the spa that they really needed to address the mens dirty bathroom, her response was "We don't take care of that."! The entire staff seemed to be tired and just not caring about the guests on their ship. While on board we received our kit which allows us to become Platinum members. This was and will be our last time ever on a Princess Cruise. We keep asking ourselves what has happened to this beautiful cruise line which we always rated 5 stars and couldn't say enough good things about. Read Less

We went because we wanted to see the Panama Canal and that we did but even that tour had a lot of problems like getting off the ship late, to not having a Panama Canal pilot ready to go, getting back 2 1/2 hours late. The staff was unfriendly and there was NO help at the Passenger service area. We were told to just deal with the problem like not being able to get into the room or down the hall with a walker. Never though we needed a handicapped room. Showers were cold, only one chair in a room, Princess told people they could not take a wheel chair and there was no reason for that as it was even a long way to get to the bus. No help from Princess at all, Most places on the ship were unlabeled, The staff did not talk to passengers but they did their job. Read Less
