Review for Oosterdam to Baltic Sea

This was our first cruise with Holland America and our first Transatlantic cruise. The itinerary was like none we had seen and we were excited to be going to 16Ports! We were impressed with how quickly and smoothly the embarkation and disembarkation went. The Oosterdam was in dry dock prior to our departure from Fort Lauderdale. The two week refit in the Bahamas included: New bottom ...

We tried other transatlantic cruise lines and this is our 9th, and had three previous cruises on Holland America ships. The new ship was perfect. The cabins were improved with larger TV screens and service in the cabin, dining room and all over was outstanding. The people we met on board were in several age groups from 27 to 70 and we had a great time playing trivia and discussing myriad topics ...

We recently cruised across the Atlantic Ocean to Rome on the Koningsdam. This is a beautiful ship, elegant design and well thought out. Crew was very friendly with prompt service. The cabin was very nice and showers were larger. The embarkation and disembarkation process was easy and smooth. Our only disappointment was with the dancing opportunities for ballroom dancers. This was limited to tea ...

This is my seventeenth cruise and the first one with HAL. I really liked the service and friendliness of the staff. The food was quality. I especially liked the fresh berries for breakfast. We had a transatlantic, I was afraid that they would end. But the berries were daily. I have not seen this with other cruise companies. The choice in the restaurant is decent. On a solemn evening served foie ...

Good ship, noisy cabin

First time on the Koningsdam and first transatlantic trip. This fairly new (2 years) ship is tastefully designed in a “modern” style with warm subdued colors and a relaxing feel. The food in all venues was the best we have experienced on a HA ship. The main dining room experience overall was good delivering consistently decent food. The service can be slow at times and the dining room ...

First Transatlantic

This was our first transatlantic cruise and we chose the Koningsdam for two reasons: we were on her inaugural cruise last year, and she is the right size for such a journey. We like HAL because the ships are simple and elegant, never tacky or showy. And the crew: I haven't encountered such friendly service personnel anywhere--in a hotel or a restaurant or an airplane. Always ready to ...

New ship but physical problems

Wanted a Mediterrean cruise on Holland America and was pleased with the brochure choice of ports and the trans Atlantic trip. I use a cane so I choose a cabin mid-ship, both horizontally and vertically for ease of access to all parts of the ship. However, after leaving Rome on the 2nd leg of the journey, on Monday, my cabin flooded in the middle of the night and I was given a "sleeping cabin" on ...

We like the sea days. no contact with the outside world. The selection of activities on board was very good from computer classes to cooking demonstrations in the Culinary Arts Centre. The food on board was also very good. I liked the speciality restaurants and visited Sel de Mere and the Tamarind twice. Burgers and pizza are also available from their takeaway areas. Entertainment was also very ...

BEAUTIFULLY DESIGNED NEW SHIP

New ship - good price. Never travelled on hal before. Disappointment vs celebity/royal caribbean. Spaces on ship do not function well. Smoke from gamblers in casino invades shops. Entertainment very poor. Shows movies on big screen in spa area. Clients very old. No energy from cruise directors to create parties or excitement. No warmth or warm welcomes. Welcomes. no entertainment on upper decks ...

Last HAL Cruise after 20+ Years

I have sailed with Holland America for more than 20 years because I love to dance (you know real dancing that has actual steps). Prior to their "change in direction" (which I wasn't aware of) every DAM ship had a nice three-piece dance combo in the Ocean Bar that played a variety of dance music and could accommodate virtually any request. They had other venues for people who preferred other types ...
