Having done numerous sea cruises from budget to luxury lines we thought it was time to try a river cruise.
The Emerald Luna Amsterdam to Basel suited us fine .
The ship is small but beautiful, we had a cabin on deck one low level which was nice comfortable but very noisy with constant flushing of the vacuum toilets through the night.
The fellow travellers were mostly American and great ...
Went on the cruise with friends. We had previously sailed with AMA on the Danube and Viking in Portugal. Food, cabins, staff and ships are all comparable with previous experiences. Overall was a fun trip and we enjoyed ourselves. Found that there are less active options ( we are in our late 50s) than our previous experiences. There are excursions but they seem to be rushed and less time allowed to ...
First time emerald cruisers an overall great experience. Have been on Viking for the Portugal through the Douro Valley. Food, cabin, staff and overall boat accommodations on par with Viking. Emerald could do better in the cultural experience we found the evening entertainment lacking just a bit. Although our activities director was fantastic but too many game nights. A German cooking class, or ...
The Cruise offered us access to particular countries / towns that we wished to visit. The Emerald Dawn offered the Cabin standard (Grand Balcony Suite) that appealed to us.
A bit of a rocky start. The transport to ship was impossible to locate (for us and others).
A broad range of excursions were offered. Recommend in particular the Skoda Tour ( of Slovakia in Communist times) and the ...
We chose this cruise for relaxation and panorama. We got plenty panorama but not much rest. The biggest problem was the departure times of the visits, 8am or 8.30am. We were 90% elderly people and like to lie in in the mornings, especially when on holiday. We could see no harm in the departure times being a little later, maybe 9.30am. Most tours were over well before the ship set sail again. We ...
Very good itiniary, staff were on the ball except for one gentleman who was not with it and lacked interest in any customers. Ship was quality with all the mod cons.
On a negative side we did not stick to the itiniary and docked in some obscure places. Explanation given was Viking have more ships than us? When advertising cruises make sure you have booked moorings for the dates you are ...
Having travelled with Emerald before (2014) and Because I love the Moselle & Rhine rivers, it was an obvious choice. However certain aspects were a severe disappointment. Day 6 Trier, awoke moored in a commercial dock next to a scrapyard, 15 miles from Trier, hardly much chance of a stroll ashore after the official tour. Day 7 Bernkastle, except it was Traben Trabach, 30 minutes by coach from ...
We chose Emerald as we had cruised with them previously and were very pleased with our holiday but the customer support pre cruise was nearly non existant
An email from the company was received about 3 weeks prior to departure asking us to complete a couple of questions including who to notify in an emergency and for flight details - as they had booked the flights this appeared to be ...
I was really disappointed with Emerald. They advertised their food as being high-end cuisine. It was really average. I had their lunch in the dining room on the first two days of our 14 day cruise, and never returned. There is a lot of food, but it was all of mediocre quality. No complaints about breakfast, there was a lot of variety and it was excellent. Their dinners were not high-end cuisine. ...
