Being a long time cruiser, and a gold msc Voyager club member, I know the exceptional service. But on this last cruise it was the most disappointing experience iv ever had. From the staff to the management, service just deteriorated terribly. It was as we got the ticket for free and it was a burden to them to provide any customcare. And as for the msc voyage club membership, almost all benefits has to be asked for and even then I didn't get most of them. Theres always some excuse that comes up. Cabin was ok but the cleanliness was sadly not a priority the the staff. We had to do most of the cleaning ourselves. To add the cherry on top, the disembarkation was a nightmare to say the least. Everything was chaos. And yes our luggage was damaged again. The miss handling on the bags are a huge problem, as Iv had a 3 bags damaged beyond use , only to not find no staff who could help. The staff in the front said the only do embarkation. Read Less

We chose this cruise as siblings to spend some time with my eldest sister who has cancer. It was a nightmare though because elevators is always busy and takes too much time to get to whatever floor you'd like to be. There should be a elevator for people with special needs. The food wasn't great in fact it was worst than hostel food, exept for dining room on deck 6 which had great service and food. The pizza on deck13 was floppy sheets of dough with veggies or leftover chicken curry. Cocktails on the cruis is overly sweet, in other words they serve you sugarwater. Please have a South African crew for South African cruises who can understand you. Cleaning services for Room 9118 was fantastic, couldnt fault anything. The cruise felt like I just stepped into a busy African marketplace with vendors trying to sell a million stuff to me all the time. Eric Eric Eric, if it wasnt for your entertainment skills and fantastic dance crew, I would've thrown myself overboard to end it all. No really guys your ship was overcrowded with the most unmannered guests and I say again... This was my 1st and last cruise ever. Msc cruises, thx for wasting my hard earned money and giving me the worst holiday I've ever had. Read Less

When we first saw the prices of the cruise and the advantages of it all, it seemed too good to be true... BACKGROUND: We booked the 15 day Indian Ocean Cruise with one night in a hotel in Mauritius (with a *drink upgrade* stopping in Seychelles, Madagascar, Reunion, and Mauritius) with the round trip airfare from London Heathrow for 2 people for $5739, wow this is going to be awesome! We booked it well over 8 months in advance through Logitravel with Iris Madico. Iris booked it for us and was responsive and helped us out with any questions we had.... what we hoped they would have provided was a warning about Costa cruise’s upgrading schemes, disgusting food, and horrid service! Almost immediately onboard we found out that Costa’s main objective was to take advantage of us and milk us out of as much money as they could. The package included: o round trip flight from London Heathrow to Mauritius airport o one night stay at Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel (4/5 star hotel at the port) o 15 days in a “premium balcony” cabin with a drink package (during booking there were only two types of cabins, premium and standard) o private transfer from the airport to the hotel o private transfer to the cruise o private transfer back to the Mauritius airport. The excursions were extra but we estimated 1700-1800 euros for 2 excursions in Seychelles, 2 in Madagascar, 1 in Reunion, and 1 in Mauritius. This sounded like a great deal. We wouldn’t have to pay for anything else besides tips, dinner/lunch off the ship, souvenirs, and incidentals. We got our own round trip flight from Los Angeles to London and a one night hotel stay near the Windsor castle in Eton, England to make our wedding anniversary a little special. Eton/Windsor was awesome despite the 30/40 degree weather. It was well worth the luggage space for a couple of coats and warm clothes! The flight out of London on our anniversary was delayed and our layover in Paris was delayed (due to transportation union strikes in the entire country of France.) *Air France/ air Mauritius was our airline* we put up with the inconveniences of the airlines and airports, Off to Mauritius! The Mauritius hotel and restaurant nearby was great. It was pricey for the dinner and drinks but well worth it after 24 hours of flights to get there. We woke up the next morning excited for our cruise. TRIP BEGINS DAY 1 We arrived an hour and a half before “boarding” to see only a few people waiting under a plastic canopy for their luggage to be tagged. We waited on a short line to check in and were given cool towels. Once we got closer to the end of the line we were super surprised to see everybody handing over their passports and the lady putting them in a big box behind her! We were called up and the lady asked to see our passports and looked us up in a computer and said welcome aboard. We asked, “Why do they have to keep our passports, and if they could take photocopies instead?” She said it was for visas for Madagascar and we will get them back after we leave Madagascar.... this was very strange and was our first notice that they will hold our passports for 6 days! We even asked Logitravel prior if we need to do anything for the visas. They told us “You will get the visas at the port when you arrive.” Nothing was mentioned by Logitravel that they would hold our passports. We noted the ladies name and asked her to be extremely careful with our documents. Once we were on board it was time for a late lunch. We made our way up to the 9th floor to the buffet. Once we exited the elevator the smell overwhelmed us. There was a mixture of all types of food smells. We just ignored the smell and began to survey the buffet to find something appealing. We had to dodge all the other passengers with trays and the workers with empty trays of discarded food with flies buzzing around. When we got in line we noticed a few people cutting in line, we didn’t care, we said there should be plenty of food to go around. We noticed only about 10% of the people using the watery hand sanitizer dispensers before grabbing at the utensils and touching all of them before grabbing the one they deemed fit. As we got saw the food we were extremely surprised at what an “Italian” cruise company called food. It was horrid, the food extremely foul tasting. We picked a few pieces of semi stale bread and a piece of chicken grilled chicken without any sauces. We barely got that down as the lady next to us was eating an apple and spitting out the skin directly on the table without a plate and left it there!!!! We said well hopefully the dinner will be better. After going into our room we were happy to have our own little spot on the huge ship. Once we went into the bathroom we noticed a disgusting smell of sewage coming from the toilet. We said “Oh no imagine after a couple of days on the cruise the smell will probably get worse!” We had to wait for our luggage to be brought up. We then said let’s just go get a drink and try and have some fun. When we got to the 2nd deck we noticed a long line at the customer service and tables set up everywhere with confused passengers asking questions and looking bewildered. We made our way to the main bar and asked for two whiskies. The bartender had this smirk on his face and said, “Can I see you Costa card?” We showed him and he said, “That those drinks are not included in your package.” We said “are you sure we got the all-inclusive cabin and drink package?” He replied, “You should go to the drink package table over there and talk with them.” We went over to a table and waited in line behind a couple that was furious about the prices and couldn’t understand why it would cost so much! Also the wife did not drink, but Costa makes the entire party to have the drink package, so the husband said ok we will go without it and walked away. We talked to a man and he showed us a drink package pamphlet riddled with all these extra prices for “premium” liquor and cocktails. The worse part was that there were drink packages for water! We asked, “Why there are drink packages for water?” He notified us that bottled water and water at the bar is not included with our package!” We asked, “What is the top package then?” He told us, “It is 740 euros a person for 14 days for the top drink package.” We were astonished it would cost that much! We settled for the second most which ran us a little over 150 US Dollars. We said “Wow we wished we would’ve known earlier so we could’ve booked the better package 8 months ago. Instead of taken $150 out of our spending budget. We also walked by the “internet/WiFi” table and noticed that the WiFi is not free anywhere on the ship!!! We got a booklet and saw it cost 100 euros for 3gb of data! We again wished we were informed by Costa/Logitravel of this ridiculous priced added expense. As we would have got a portable hotspot, paid for it in advance, or worked it into our budget! We went to a different bar and got a drink prepared by a rude bartender. We retreated to a table away from the bar and started to voice our frustrations to each other. As we were talking we noticed every other party doing the same thing! After our drink we decided, hey let blow off some steam and hit the arcade and casino. Once there we realized that the arcade is not free either. We didn’t even bother with the casino as we felt it would be rigged even worse than other casinos. We wondered what else we will have to pay on this “all-inclusive” vacation! Skeptical of the food we wanted to see the dinner menu for our free sit-down dinner. The Daily Diary told us it was the “gala menu” so we went to the restaurant to try and find a menu. There was nothing there and nobody in sight. So we went to the customer service desk and asked them for the menu for tonight’s dinner. They actually laughed and threw up their hands and said, “We do not have the menus!” We looked at each other and just said, “thank you.” and walked away. We got changed and ready for dinner and headed down to the restaurant 10 minutes early to see a huge group of people waiting to get in. We noticed some obviously overdressed people that seemed to be pawns in the Costa scam. They seemed like actors that were trying to instill a fake sense of class and excitement for the cruise and the dinner. Once 7:45pm came they just opened up the doors and people literally ran inside to their tables. We thought we would have a “dinning seating choice” but we were put up against a wall at the back of the boat where the boat rocked the most. We looked at the menu and decided that we both would have the Lentil soup. I would try the pasta and my wife would try the prawn. Once the lentil came out and we tasted it we knew we have been tricked again. It tasted like literal watered down puke and we only had one or maybe two spoons each. Our entrees came out and my wife’s shrimp stunk of bad seafood and was the skinniest shriveled up prawn we have ever seen. She didn’t touch a thing. My pasta was covered in cheese sauce that tasted horrid and the pasta was chewy with a weird texture. We started to get nauseous and couldn’t take the smell of everyone else’s food. We got up and walked past the waiter and he said, “Is everything ok?” We said, “No! We are not feeling well.” As we walked out everyone stared at us and we tried to not look at the bad eating habits of the people. We had a couple of drinks (made with the cheapest of alcohols) and retreated to our room. We were so upset but we were out in the middle of the Indian Ocean and felt trapped! It was nearly 11pm and we were so hungry so we decided to order room service (which was included free in our package). We looked at the menu and noticed there were only 3 free items. Everything else we would have to pay for. Also they could not bring us water so we had to pay for two sodas. Not liking any of the free choices, I chose the “il Italiano sandwhich” and my wife chose the vegetarian sandwich (after her bad prawn earlier). The room service guy came in and said in a subtle sarcastic voice, “How are you enjoying the cruise?” We said, “Its okay so far” to avoid a weird conversation. We gave him 3 US dollars tip and he left. To our horror, as we looked at the food we almost puked immediately. The vegetarian sandwich was soggy and looked like a mashed up mixture of a bad eggplant and other indistinguishable “vegetables”. The prosciutto on the “il Italiano” was even worse it looked like spam and had some weird clear gelatin attached to it! ****see attached picture and video***** We asked room service to take the tray away and almost cried with disbelief. We could not find any decent food to eat! We then started to ask each other if we should leave and book something else. As a numbers guy I started doing the math in my head and knew if we left it was going to cost us a minimum of $5000 (for hotel and flights back to Mauritius) plus the $7500 we already gave to Costa/Logitravel! DAY 2 We went to breakfast and survived on stale bread and croissants. We spent the day sunbathing and fasting as we could not bear to even walk through the buffet area! We decided we would pay extra for a pizza as we could not, and would not, sit down for another free dinner. We said to ourselves how Italians could mess up a pizza made fresh. When we got to the pizza “restaurant” we realized it is just a section within the buffet area! People were looking at the guys kneading the dough as two guys would walk up and tried to lure them into buying a pizza. We were seated and realized only one other person was there. I asked for a pizza that included cherry tomatoes and burrata cheese. The waiter told me that they ran out of cherry tomatoes! I said, “Really on the second night?” They didn’t give a reason and told me, “They could make it with tomato sauce instead.” When the pizzas came out they were running and watery. The ball of burrata was so hard I couldn’t even cut into it! When the waiter came over to ask how the food was I said, “It is a little watery”. He replied with a belittling remark, “Well that is because you ordered it with tomato sauce.” My wife and I just rolled our eyes and couldn’t believe that he didn’t apologize or try and correct it. We decided we have to get off the ship! We paid for the small amount of data and started to try and search for our escape. We were trying to get into our Chase banking app as it gives us great deals for travel since we are reserved customers. The WiFi was so slow we could not even use it! And worse of all our data package kept draining and we kept upgrading (racking up the money for Costa!) A number of other apps did not work so we went down to the “Internet cafe”. Once there, we put in our card and the computer seemed slower than our phones! We left very discouraged and we kept searching through the Expedia app. DAY 3 We went down to customer service desk the second morning to ask for our passports back and we were thinking of disembarking from the boat. The lady wanted us to sign a disembarking form right then. We said we will not until our passports are returned to us. She said we could pick up our passports tomorrow morning. We spent the second day on the ocean sunbathing and fasting again. We ate two regular margarita pizzas again and both were soggy. We spent the rest of the night researching resorts to try and get the best deal, since we were going to lose a bunch on this vacation. We finally booked: • 4 night stay “half board” in a resort in Seychelles for $1500 and spent an extra $400 for drinks and food. (The resort and the food were spectacular!) • We also had to pay for a flight back to Mauritius so we can get the flight we already paid for from Mauritius back to London. The flight straight from Seychelles was way too expensive. The price for two passengers in economy was $800. • We also booked an all-inclusive resort in Mauritius for $3000, which was fantastic! We also booked an excursion since we lost out on our excursions with costa! Day 4 We went down to the customer service desk and asked for our passports back and the lady said, “You can have them back on the day you disembark.” We did not want to argue so we just said we will make sure we get them back before we leave the ship. We skipped breakfast and got something from a nearby vending machine on land at the port. We went on our one excursion in Seychelles. It was such a relief to be off the boat! The tour was a lot of driving and boat rides. The lunch buffet on the island of Praslin was delicious and so refreshing! Overall it was a good time (9 out of 10). We arrived back at the ship at 7pm. We packed and went to bed without dinner. We dreamt about disembarking in the morning. Day 5 We went down to the customer service, paid our bill, signed the form, and took our own luggage out and never looked back! Summary In the end we spent….. 5739 US Dollars to Logitravel/Costa for the initial booking. 2243 US Dollars for the excursions we could not cancel, the upgraded drink package, the WiFi, the pizza, and other items. Along with the accommodations we made we spent well over 13,000 US Dollars! We could’ve done without Costa/Logitravel and stayed in the two very nice resorts for the 8000 US Dollars. Never going to go on a cruise again! Read Less

When I did my first cruise 17 years ago also on my birthday, I was supprised with a birthday cake! Now they charge you for it. There was always photographers taking ransom photos during your cruise, now you have to go to them and it is all unnatural studio photos at USD12 per photo!! Previously You bought a beverage package for the duration of your cruise which included all coldrinks, coffee, tea, ice-cream etc, now you can buy a package that has a maximum of 18 drinks, whether it is alcohol or not for R850 depending on the exchabge rate. And they do not tell you beforehand that it is limited to a specific amount (usd) per drink!! Everything has become so commercialized and greedy, that it does not seem to be worth the almost R5000 per day that you spent. Read Less

The standards of the MSC cruises have dropped to a terrible new low. My wife and I cruised on the Opera to Mauritius in 2014 and that cruise was delightful. However this cruise was horrible: - Standard of the food has dropped both in buffet and restaurant. - We asked for a first dinner sitting and got a second despite having a 2 year old who went to bed hungry on Friday night due to the pathetically slow service by waiters. - The waiters are rude and look like they're doing you a favor rather than their jobs. - The is no guidance from MSC regarding the procedures such as if you booked an excursion where to go etc perhaps they expect their guests to know all of this. - The buffet dining area should be bigger as people tend to push and cut ques even seating space is not enough. - I hope other cruise liners come to South Africa to give MSC some competition to get it back to it's former glory. From the start of booking my cruise I have had endless problems, The contact Centre was extremely incompetent, they have changed my dinner seating, mixed my cabins up cost me additional money as when I booked the prices were lower. On arrival my cabin was dirty, I had to get new sheets and the floors vacuumed, Workers rude to us on the ship when we tried to make our baby food hot (we carried our own sealed food), we were told to go away. On the first night, my wife waited for 45 minutes for the food to be made hot. Common areas were stinky and not cleaned thoroughly (The deck on some days smelled like sewerage). No baby facility as requested for my room (e.g. Cot) I had called several times requesting this. Entertainment very poor compared to previous trips, shows were not even full. Food was excellent, improvement since my last cruise. Well done. Waiters were good, children enjoyed the kids entertainment. . Excellent service from Puttu, SuperJana (Dinner)and BanBang(Cabin). . The service from the buffet staff was unbelievable, they refused to assist with baby chairs and any assistance in cleaning up of the tables. We cleaned up and had to sort our tables out. Completely opposite to the dinner. Out of my 3 experiences this was my worst. I don't think I will be booking a cruise with MSC after this experience Read Less

i have been on this cruise before and had the time of my life, needless to say this time round i had told all my friends and family join, we were about 21, adults and kids. I had elderly members in my group who had never traveled, now they get to enjoy the cruise and its luxuries with their kids and grand kids. I was to celebrate my daughters 1st and nieces 3rd birthday on board or so we planned. I know you cant control the weather so when we received text message no 5 after our cruise had a 2 day delay due to gale force winds we were still excited to make the most of our holiday. We were told to be in Cape Towns port by 8am the Saturday morning (26th January) for a swift embarkation, unfortunately i spent all of 4 hours in the line with a restless kid in arm. By the time i eventually got onto the ship the halal buffet was anorexic with almost nothing available. The water was choppy but the ship was trying to make up as much time as possible, at one point i thought we were a speed boat, my entire party suffered from vertigo, mostly on the first night. Supper was mediocre and we didn't get a Gala evening. Our waiters seemed exhausted and unwilling to assist, not normally the case in my past experiences. I was on the melody, an extinct and ancient ship for 19 days in 2011 and had the time of my life, this cruise was supposed to be top all my expectations but was an anti climax. We didnt stop in Port Elizabeth and got into Durban earlier than expected. on the brink of disembarkation i was told that i could not leave the ship because i had an outstanding balance on my account. i had to head back to reception where there was a 40 min line because of all the queries passengers had. They billed me $1.50 per person for a UNICEF donation. This should be optional and not a prerequisite payment before you leave the ship. I donate to my own organisations and how the hell do i know that MSC actually gives my money to UNICEF. based on this they removed my charges and i was allowed to leave the ship almost an hour later... If one pays for a luxury experience especially for leisure and relaxation purposes especially if you saving and looking forward to it for months. Its a complete let down when you utilized your annual leave or savings for a trip and us as consumers gets the short end of the stick.. MSC just picks up more people in Durban and can start fresh giving them an ultimate experience. Instead of them cancelling the trip in totality because it would cost the company an arm or a leg, this trip was a taxi service to Durban because you inevitably had to go there as part of your itinerary. The passengers were dragged along for the speedy and bumpy ride and all you can do is compensate us with a lousy 20% on our next cruise excluding service and port charges...HOW IS THAT WORTH IT? do you classify that as compensation for my inconvenience and disappointment? IM BEYOND GUTTED! Read Less

Well where to start with this one ! I have been on a number of cruises and decided to include one on my recent visit to South Africa, bad choice as this cruise was easily the worst I have ever been on. Too much went wrong to detail everything but I'll have a go. Embarkation at Cape Town was a nightmare. We had to wait 3.5 hrs to board. We had to q up in a deserted shell of a warehouse covered in birds dropping with no facilities, no water, no info from crew, a terrible start to any holiday. Food was of a very low standard, both in the 24x7 cafeteria and the restaurant evening meals. Fine dining it was not, cold soup and badly presented, small food portions, a good way to lose weight ! The service throughout the ship was really poor. Crew did not seem to care and the ones that did were vastly overworked, IE large bar areas took about 20 mins to get a drink as only 1 bar person on duty. This was the norm, it looked as though there were not enough staff on the ship to cope with the crowds of people. The ship seemed rammed with people who mostly camped out in the 24 x 7 cafeteria eating all day. As a consequence it was a nightmare trying to get a a) food and b) a table to sit at during breakfast and lunch. The South Africans on board just camped out there for the day eating. The staff were not that helpful either when you asked them to help you get a table, total chaos ! Hand sanitisers at each restaurant door were either not working or empty. There was no effort made by the crew to make sure every person entering the eating areas sanitised their hands, its a wonder we didn't have a food poisoning outbreak on board. I could go on and on but I am sure you get my drift as to the type of cruise this was. To me it was one small step up from a booze cruise. It was so bad that the Europeans on board demanded a meeting with the Senior staff. We had a meeting in one of the lounges with the Hotel Manager, Customer Relations manager, Second in command to the Captain and the Housekeeping Manager. There were about 200 to 300 hundred irate people complaining to them, BTW the Captain was a no show throughout the cruise not even a tannoy announcement from him. We complained about the service, meals, sanitisation and other items but I felt theses fell on deaf ears. One thing that was said was that the cruises are planned for the local market and they obviously felt the SA people on board were happy with what I would say was a 3 star Spanish hotel experience. They did say that for Europe they upgraded the experience and for North America upgraded even higher. This was a cruise that should have not been sold to Europeans as the standard was deliberately low to match the local market. We asked for compensation but I'm not sure if anything will happen, just make sure if you ever cruise with MSC you dont do it tin South Africa , in fact choose another cruise company entirely. This was the second cruise on the MSC Sinfonia. The first cruise was amazing but this one was terrible. Book a cruise for my family. When i get on board i see there is a company function happening on board. That was not the problem. Almost the entire cruise there was only afrikaans music playing. I think that was unacceptable. Also staff on the ship where unhelpful and service at restaurants was average. Food was good at the sit down restaurants for dinner but other meals where average. I must commend the process when going ashore, very efficient. Entertainment should be for everyone not the majority From the first cruise to now big difference. Advise to Travellers : Ask before booking if there are any functions happening on the Ship. I always book the Balcony Suite, much larger rooms and you don't feel the rough sea's as bad as the lower rooms(my opinion). Read Less

This was our first cruise, the whole family went with, as well as my grandchild. The ticket info said that boarding takes place between 10.30am and 4pm. We arrived after 9am, excited to board early. When we got there people were already queuing to embark and we stood in line. After 10.30am I asked the security what's happening, why is it taking so long. He said that we will only embark after 12. We stood in the scorching heat for hours, no one came to explain why, no apologies, nothing. We only got to our rooms before 3pm, tired, hungry, miserable. The rooms were very nice and comfortable. The restaurant ( Buffet) operated like a factory. People ate, left their tables, we found a table, the waiter took long to clear the table, wipe it down. The language barrier made it very difficult for us to communicate with the waiter to clear the table, he just waked away with an angry look. The food was ok, not excellent as per the reviews or the videos we watched before the time. The fine dining restaurant was a joke. My husband received a plate with a little rice, chicken in some sauce and hot chips. It looked like a child prepared the food. I ordered a salad, which consisted of droopy lettuce leaves, a yellow sauce and bread that somehow resembled croutons, utterly disgusting. My grandchild got sick the Sunday, before 5pm. He vomited on the bedding and I called reception. They said that they would send someone. After an hour I called again and no one had arrived. I made another call and someone came after 10pm only, with only a sheet and 2 pillow cases. He said there was no other clean bedding and he had to walk very far to get the bedding. Now my question is this. We were 6 people, stayed in 2 cabins, paid R18000, to get service like this. You might brag on the internet with all your wonderful reviews, but the experience we had was putrid. You advertise falsely, what should have been a glorious experience turned out to be one of the worst for me. I will never again embark on an MSC cruise. I hope you add this one onto the internet Thank you! Read Less

We cruised with MSC Sinfonia for the new years cruise in 2016/2017 and we were blown away by the fantastic holiday we had - so much so that whilst still on the boat we booked and paid for the same cruise the following year. The idea at the time was that this would become our December family holiday. Sadly this will not be the case as the experience 2nd time around was nothing short of horrible. Food and the amazing dinning experiences are a key focus on any cruise and this was certainly the case in 2016/2017 but in 2017/2018 the quality, taste, presentation and variety of food have taken a serious nose dive - it was obvious that some serious cost cutting initiatives were put in place and what was left were frozen shrimps where before had been queen prawns, ice berg lettuce topped with toasted bread where before had been a wonderfully prepared Ceaser salad with all the trimmings. Where we had noted a constant presence of security on board in the previous year this year the amount of under aged drinking made it difficult to go anywhere in the latter part of the evening without stumbling over a drunk teenager which the barman were happy to serve under the watchful eye of various MSC senior staff every night. The daily entertainment was a copy and paste of the previous year which made a 2nd trip really unentertaining. I was left with the impression that serious cost saving initiatives have been implemented all around and that the customer experience was completely overlooked. Read Less

I had recently been on the costa neo classica . Not a good experience as it is not indian friendly and the food is terrible , mostly frozen stale and half cooked or half baked. They cater to italian delicacies and totally ignore the needs of other country specialties. They ran straight into the ockhi storm and had a rocking ride from day one. They expect guests to pay for water every time which is not indian culture. They also have a racist attitude towards indians where in we contribute a lot better to the world in general. When they are not indian friendly why do they want to do india ?? The entertainment was also pathetic except for the yuri and edita show. The shows are also in the evening and nothing to do in the morning hours when they sail. The games conducted are also pathetic. Total waste of your hard earned money unless u want to waste it. Some restaurant waiters are very rude and abrupt. All Maître d's are extremely unhelpful and ignore you. We received very bad service from our waiter who was an elderly Italian gentleman. All staff dont know what they are meant to know so if you ask one staff they will give you one answer but if you ask another they will give you a different answer. There was a compulsory drill but we could not get into our cabin to get our life jackets. Guest services refused to help saying that they can only assist after the drill. How are you supposed to take part in the drill if your cabin is locked? Luggage took long to arrive even though we boarded the ship early at 11am. It was not communicated to us that it would take that long. Service in restaurants is pathetic especially the dinner service. Other waiters do not assist you and refer you to your waiter. This means you wait extra long as you have to deal with your waiter only and these small things like wanting more cutlery could be resolved by the waiters that are there. There needs to be some barrier ropes or staff at the buffet line to assist as you stand long in the queue and it is chaos. I have wanted to do a cruise for many years but after this experience I would never use MSC again and would not recommend them to anyone. Our cabin and bathroom was always cleaned so well done to the cabin attendants. Read Less

My family and I travelled on the MSC Sinfonia this past Easter weekend. We had booked 7 rooms in total and what was mean't to be a great trip turned into the Cruise from hell! After travelling on Cruise Ships abroad, you would expect a certain level of service from MSC's Sinfonia Cruise-liner, this couldn't be further from the truth! Some of the highlights on the cruise included: -Experience the worst food, the buffet quality is terrible and left over food seems to be reused through the day. The a la carte dining can only be described as being worse than airplane food. The amount of wastage you will see from people unhappy with their food will surprise you - but clearly it's no big issue for the management team! -Experience the worst service, don't bother expecting your bottle of water to arrive on time, or for any extra "luxuries" that you would expect while on a cruise. -30 minute queues for food and overbooked facilities! Factor in the point that the ship facilitates have not been expanded after they lengthened the ships (They only added in more rooms), and you will have an idea on the fact that this is just a numbers game now. -Interact with the most unfriendly staff you will ever interact with on a cruise! Sad faces, angry looks, laughing at you when you point out that their dinner plates are dirty from the last serving. Also, upon enquiring on why is the service and food so terrible, you will be answered with the honest answer of "This cruise is for bottom tier customers that are only interested in drinking and having fun". It is blatantly obvious that MSC is short-changing the South African customers with their bad attempt at a proper cruise! On the plus side, you get to see the ocean. Very disappointed and will never do a Durban based cruise with MSC. You rather save your money and go on a trip with Royal Caribbean or Carnival! Read Less

We were greeted by exceptionally long queues and frustrated people. We paid for "Fast track" as it is impossible to stand in a queue with a 3 year old child for 4 hours. Once inside the Fast track option was available but this just lead to another queue. Tried to explain to the staff that we have "Priority Boarding" because of our wedding package but they were not interested. We paid for excess baggage yet two bags per person is "recommended". We had one each and had to pay for hand luggage. Personnel was rude/unprofessional or did not speak English. Lunch served on first day tasted like cat food. Evacuation drill we were sent from one end of the ship to the other. No swim towels and wouldn't give to us after requested. Husband's suitcase was ripped to pieces on embarkation. My locking mechanism on my luggage was broken off on disembarkation. Food on island was disgusting! DJ only catered for African clientele. Nothing accessible on island days. Grease on deck which destroyed my wedding manicured nails. Spa does not do artificial nails. Crèche was closed most of the time. Crèche personnel screaming at children. Ceremony was 10min long! This was the worst holiday ever!!! Read Less
