The cruise was an overall disappointing experience. I have been on two cruises on the MSC Sinfonia and that was by far a much better ship and cruise experience as compared to the MSC Musica. Firstly the ship looked rather old and rundown. The rooms looked good but the not at all stable. The roof and doors creeked whilst in motion and made unusual noises disturbing the sleep we tried to get. The overall look and feel of the ship was bad as it looked like it was unkempt. Further after day two on the cruise there was this horrid smell coming up deck four and deck five. By the time we were disembarking the smell had started to reach deck 6. The smell was horrendous and almost vile. This prevented us from going to those decks. Further the restaurant service left much to be desired. We were served dinner by a waiter called Syafuidan from Indonesia. His temperament and level of service was downright poor. He was hardly courteous and had a major problem serving us. He was not pleasant and he had a major issue serving us if we required seconds of any item on the menu. He was so rude to the point that he rolled his eyes when we requested service. He literally avoided our tables. The one night we waited over an hour to get our main course. When we reported it to his manager the response was not better. On our final night there this waiter in not so many words said he was glad to see us go, The manager went to the point to remark that if we were staying on for the 11 night cruise he will disappear. We were 7 people at our table and we in no way did anything to receive this kind of service. This started on night one. If the waiter is unhappy to do this kind of work then he should not be the face of the restaurant serving the patrons of the cruise, We came expecting a great time but we were sadly disappointed and will not consider cruising again with MSC. Further the embarkment process was rather long and tedious. We stood in the queue for almost two hours just to check in before standing in another queue for passport control. There must be a better way to expedite this process Read Less

Other Friends have been on similar Sinfonia cruises. Although I checked their photos and the Sinfonia has more to offer and looked better than the Musica. My first cruise and the experience was worthwhile and good for an experience. There was still adequate facilities for the entire family's entertainment. Overall food quality was good with good variation on the dinner dining choice everyday. All shows and entertainment were well planned and coordinated and got the crowd always enjoying. However a staff attitude issue marred the overall dining experience every single day as we had the same bad attitude person taking drinks orders at the allocated dining restaurant, always looking angry, not smiling and never ever coming back for further orders or even with a slice of Lennon for the drinks for all the days we dined, and which was explicitly requested many times. This is not a NEW ship but was used in a different region and then refurbished and it was quite evident they had a inherent plumbing issues with with very bad smells coming when your crossed various cabins across the different floors - which is definitely not acceptable, unless assuming we from Africa, where this flies. I hope they completely revamp their plumbing systems, else this will constantly be fixed temporarily only. Read Less

Was a bit boring not much too do swimming pools were full no games for kids. Expected much more. Some staff were quite rude and not helpful at bar and dining. And lunches. Was an interesting experience but according to friends reviews we expected much more and were very disappointed. The only highlight were the pomene island stop that was great! Everything quite expensive and meals on deck 13 for lunch and dinner every single day the same hotdogs, chips and burgers. Don't know whether we will ever do a cruise again!! Not good value for money and not much entertainment for kids and adults on msc musica. Breakfasts were good, but on deck 5/6 mostly the same deck 13 were good but too many people not enough place to be seated. Some waiters were rude, they would rudely answer you I am still busy cleaning or you are late end let you wait for 40 minutes or will take 40 minutes to bring you ice and water. Read Less

Chose the cruise because it was going to destinations which were favourable. First of all, foor a month of travelling, the luggage allowance was not enough as allowed by the air line. Hotel stay in Durban was excellent. The ship' entertainment was good, although quite short. The entertaining team were friendly and tried their best to get guests involved in activities. Crew were polite. The cabin was satisfactory with enough storage space. Meals- Poor choices, breakfast was the same, the bacon was hard and dry. The choice was limited, if we wanted salmon, we had to go to the restuarant. The service was poor and the waiters sèmed tired and worn out. Lots of the meals were of poor quality. Some were recycled from the buffet lunch to dinner in the restuarants. Presentation was poor. Sometimes the meat were hard and inedible.Sometimes the waiters were embarrased to serve the meal. Water was not served on the table and there was not a choice for tap water until many concerns were raised, afterwhich water was served. Bought a wine package, most of the wines we were told were not available. Had to get the wine from the bar and dring it to the table. Soon after, these same wines became available. Hygiene was not enforced, people were entering the restuarants inappropriately dressed from the pool area. Lots of people had colds and coughs and they were alllowed to use communial areas without taking preautions to stop the spread of the virus. Going on shore excursions was very disorganised. Long queys and delays, causing us to lose valuable shore time when it was already short stops. In Venice, organisation was very poor. Immigration should have boarded the ship and clear people rather than us coming out, them reentering again to join the water taxi. Communication was poor during these times Public areas were dirty and smelt of urine. Stains were noticeable in the day time on the seats. They were cleaned during the trip. Will not cruise with MSC again. Read Less

For this weekend it was the only cruise available. Had to fly from CT to Durban and back which made this an expensive holiday. The embarkation and disembarkation were a lot better since my previous cruise. I was disappointed in the food served in Galileo dining room. Not a variety to choose from menu, not one of the items of choice was for me appealing. The Italian evening I had calamari for starter and tiramisu for desert. Almost the same food were served in buffet area. In the buffet area there were not cold meats like pastrami/salami, I understand that because of this listerosis outbreak no ham were served. No leg of lamb at the buffet. Only fried fish at buffet and no calamari. There were not a variety of meat dishes, some Moroccan chicken or beef stew. Previous time there were more meat options. Too much breads scones muffins and croissants. Had pork sausage one morning but awful tasted all processed and tasted like dry flour. The deserts are all sweet, would like some salty or savoury deserts or starters like quiches, crachers with cheese and figs. At the buffet I had fresh fruit for desert, the tartlets are too much pastry with glazed fruit or cake type of deserts. No ice cream available at buffet. What about some cold puddings some flamby or chocolate mouse or custard. Less cheese options were available at buffet, were only sliced Edam or Cheddar, no blue cheese or camembert/brie like previous cruise. I'm not full of nonsense about food and eat almost anything, but compared to previous cruises the food were disappointing. Still shocked how people load their plates with food and leave most as left over. Rather go for 2nd serving. Kids wasted the pizzas and burgers. The excursion to Portuguese island was super, the food was disappointing, had a patty and salad and fruit for lunch. Everything had to be brought to land but what about more salads or pre-cooked meals. I had tomato and lettuce for salad. The trip was over all good and good service. Will definitely do another cruise, wish more cruises were available from CT to make it more affordable. It was my mother's first cruise and she enjoyed the adventure. Read Less

We had our first cruise in December and simply fell inlove with the experience. This cruise was to experience the magic again. We really enjoyed our first island stop on The Portuguese Island. The setup of the resort is fantastic and facilities are up to standard. The only negative thing we could criticise was the food. We found the BBQ chicken to be overcooked and rolls a bit stale. The island of Pomene was another beautiful stop. We found that finding shaded area was a bit of a mission. We found the pool a but too small for the amount if people that disembark on the islands. Overall the cruise was quite enjoyable. It is such a treat for us as a family to totally relax in a safe and secure environment. As parents we really value to time we could spend knowing that our kids are being taken care of by the magnificent staff at the kids club. It was a surprise when the staff recognised us in embarkation because of the kids. They were so happy that the kids would be joint them again. I always feel so spoilt on a cruise as I have no cooking and cleaning to do. The fact that MSC has such competent staff reassures us that our every need will be taken care of. All staff are always friendly and ready to greet you with a smile at any time of the day. I would definitely recommend MSC to all my family and friends. Read Less

Information regarding where to eat and what items could be ordered was not sufficiently provided for breakfast and lunch. Food especially breakfast was of a poor standard, repetitive and tasteless. No variety at all, food ran out a lot and took too long to replenish. Tried to order an omelette on the first day of the cruise, was told by the waiter this was not possible as the restaurant was too busy. Ordered eggs benedict in the restaurant for breakfast, after 30mins no one could assist with where the order was. Food and beverage staff need training on customer service, professionalism and friendliness. Bar service was very slow, completely under staffed. We waited more than 30mins for a drink at the main pool deck everyday. More staff required to assist especially with cocktails. Should have a separate cocktail bar to ensure more efficient service. Bar staff especially at the various bars inside rude and not attentive at all. Cabin was clean and up to standard. Housekeeping staff and maintenance staff were the only staff that greeted us on a daily basis, well done. Read Less

This was my 5th cruise with MSC in South African waters and I was disappointed. Firstly it is a total nightmare to park your vehicle in the parking at the harbour. To be waiting for more than 2 hours in a queue to park your vehicle not acceptable, previous trips it didn't take even half an hour. We do understand that the weather does have an effect on the cruise but we were all sad when we heard that we won't be going to Pomene. In stead we visited the Portugese Island for 2 consequetive days. On the the Island the locals really made a nuisance of them selves with all the local stuff they were selling. We visit Mozambique quite often and love to buy from the locals but they were too much on the island. The ship itself was also a bit disappointing. Yes we do understand that there are a lot of passengers on board and will be difficult to keep the ship tidy and clean the whole time, but we experienced that the ship was really filthy, the cocktail bars floors were so filthy you couldn't even walked bare foot. We remember on the previous cruises the cleaning people were cleaning throughout the day and everthing was clean. Read Less

I have cruised with MSC for many years. Yes they have change a lot off things to make the Embarkation easer and faster but still needs some improvement. We had easy on board. The desk with the 3 ladies helping you was a bit slow and thy struggle with the papers and marking off the people for easy on board. Mabey two counters will be better? From there it was easy through security and immigration. But then you hit the line for the photo in front off the ship. What a line! Why not make I line for people that wonts to take a picture and one for people just to pass by if you do not wont the photo taken. If you pass that photo session it was easy and fast again. We stayed in cabin 1225 on deck 12. Cabin was ready by 13:00 and we collected you cruise cards. Luggage was in front of the room around 15:30. The two chair out side on the balcony was a bid behind it us by date and needs a lot of attention. It lining of the chairs was coming loos and it was not nice to sit on them. Dining on deck 6 in II Cove was to standard and food was good as well as the service. We had breakfast on deck 5 in II Galeone but the service there was not up to standard you had to wait on someone to bring you coffee and the tables was not set after the people left. No butter on the table you had to ask for it. So MSC really needs to give attention to this. At Lunch there was just not enough waiters on the deck to serve every one and you hade to wait long times for someone to get you a drink if you get someone. Same in Manhaton Bar, just not enough waiters to help everyone. Entertainment was not on the same standard as that we have experience when Steven was the cruise director. You can just see that he is not there. The "Afrikaanse Sokkie" was also not nice organic as they tried to hold one so on the deck next to the swimming pool. There was just not enough space for everyone. Not a good experience, why not put a camera and show the stage on the big screen so everyone can at lees see the stage??? Then there is the Shelagh pub with the smokers. Can you please put a door or something the to keep the some inside. If you walk past there you can just smell smoke out side the pub and that is not nice to someone not smoking. Especially at night if you go down from 12 to 5 as this is the elevator the closes to you. The child swimming area needs some attention as not all the water nozzles and spouts work on there play area. Overhaul the service on the ship was not bad just not enough waiters to help all the people with drinks on the bar an deck areas. Disembarkation was fast and easy no problems at all. Read Less

We have been on 10 cruises with MSC to date, most of them on the Sinfonia. I am a gold card member and my wife is silver. I'm on the threshold of becoming a black member. Because MSC only offer longer cruises over December (which is what we enjoy but can't get away at that time), we had to choose to do back-to-back cruises to give us 7 nights away. 1. By choosing this option we obviously spend substantial time in port and not cruising. 2. We have no choice of destination but are forced to travel the same route with little variance both times. 3. We notice that the crew look very tired with the rapid turn around after such short cruises. 4. The menus are repeated exactly the same on both cruises which is not enjoyable. 5. Whilst the ship is well maintained, it is looking tired now and we do understand that this is her last season in SA. 6. Having been on so many cruises with MSC, the reduction in services was quite obvious to us. This was quite sad. From events, entertainment, number of staff, service in the theatre etc. 7. Our cabin steward whilst very pleasant seemed to have difficulty in remembering to refill toilet rolls, tissue and fill the ice bucket daily. Also glasses were left unwashed and we had to ask for all these items to be done. 8. The dining room staff with few exceptions were friendly and efficient. 9. There is a lot more self service and less waiter service. Selections have been reduced especially at lunch in the dining room and particularly desserts which are exactly the same every day. Read Less

I had the opportunity to go on the Finesse NetvirdieGirls2018 cruise with my Mom, Mother-in-love, 2 sisters-in-love. The five of us started planning way in advance - Aug 2017 to be exact. We were all very excited as my Mom and myself told the other 3 ladies how luxurious the ships are. My mom and I have been on previous cruises with MSC. So we decided to do another cruise - MSC's reputation and affordability convinced us. Excitement was at the order of the day when we arrived at Durban port, but the loooong queues had our excitement dimmed very soon. However when we got onto the ship the excitement was back, We headed to our cabins and everyone oo'ed and aah'ed about the luxury of the ship as we walked around and used the lifts. When mom and I got to the cabin however, we were not so impressed anymore. The shower was very small - we did look at photos on the web, but this was really small. The room looked neat , but we accidentally moved the duvet and saw the state of the night frill. it was torn! So needless to say, we were not impressed. With the amount of money one pay, one would really expect the linen to be in better shape and the bathroom space to be a bit more spacious also. I understand MSC would want as many passengers on the ship as possible, but pushing people into the proverbial tin like fish is really not necessary. Ons goes on a cruise to relax - on the deck and in the cabin. So please MSC, think of the cabin sizes in future when you plan a new ship. Not everyone are petit people, there are taller and bigger guests on your ship too. Read Less

It was our second cruise. This time we took the whole family to share in the wonderful experience. The new cruisers enjoyed every moment, except for the day that we went through the storm and almost everyone was sea sick. The kids had an absolutely great time at the club and also at the spray park and the swimming pools. The embarkation process could be improved though. Maybe allocate a specific time for embarkation for a specific group of cabins.the current process is very delayed and tiring. By the time you get onto the ship, you have no energy to enjoy what the vessel has to offer. The self-help service for disembarkation on the other hand, is and absolute bonus. The process is quick and completely hassle free, especially if your schedules are tight. We are definitely going again.we are considering doing a longer cruise as we have now done the Cape Town to Durban twice. Time for a new adventure with MSC Cruises. Read Less

Embarkation chaos. Took more than 4 hours to get on board. When on board, after 2 checkpoints, you were lost. Nobody gave information what to do next. Had to ask random staff working at kiddies check in counter to found out that you must go to your cabin, get your cruise card. I cannot imagine how lost a first timer must be or feel. Dining a joke. We were three pax, but were allocated a table for two. They had to shift in an extra chair in a small space. Food is average and not the same as it use to be a few years ago. At the buffet, the serving dishes were not monitor by staff to keep it full. To get a seat was a nightmare. Tables were not cleared and cleaned regularly. People were not directed to a seating, so you find 2 people sitting at a table of 8 pax. People were not leaving after finishing eating and use the buffet area to chill out. Read Less

I chose this cruise as my wife and i have never been on a cruise before. It all started going wrong when we arrived for embarkation where we had to wait inline for 3 plus hours. There is no shelter from the sun and for those that cannot stand long no chairs or seating. We get to the boarding gate and there we stand waiting to board in a room that has no air-con and it was hot. I am sure that MSC cruises having been doing this for a long time now would have had an action plan in place or something. Having to wait 30 hours before leaving port was a disaster, no blame to MSC. The cruise itself was nice i enjoyed the atmosphere on board, pity my wife was seasick. The cabins are nice except for the shower which was a little bit on the small side. The entertainment was exellent and the service from everybody was really good. Disembarkation was well thought out and very well executed. Yes i would go on another cruise but my wife will not. Please avoid using this Radio Station ever - this cruise has made us vow never to return to MSC again, sadly indeed. Only one (1) of the 4 nights was enjoyed in the restaurant. that night the food and service was superb-what we expect from MSC. The other nights are best forgotten. The breakfast offering followed the very same pattern- lovely for one morning, awful for thhe rest. We enjoyed the entertainment in the Pubs and Lounges but not always n the SINFONIA lounge where the last night(Thursday) was loud and raucous-unbecoming of a ship of this class!! Because the ship was crowded, the public restrooms suffered poor hygiene and cleanliness - which was often unpleasant. Thank you Read Less

I chose this trip primarily for my kids as they have not been on a cruise before. It was a bit disappointing as they didn't enjoy the kids club as much as I'd hope. Whenever we popped in to the respective rooms, it was unoccupied and the entertainment areas didn't offer that much. The cabin was comfortable however because there is back to back embarking/disembarkation happening hence, the cabin wasn't cleaned properly. The toilet reeked of urine. Thoroughly enjoyed the adult entertainment/musicians but find that the ship was too full and that became unpleasant in that service was mediocre. The dining was great, really enjoyed the waters from Indonesia, very pleasant. There should be a better way to embark as standing in a long q for hours is most frustrating, especially in the heat. I enjoyed my first MSC Symphony cruise to Portuguese islands so much more than this one. There were too many people and it has kinda lost it's "exclusivity". I would definitely not consider a local cruise, perhaps a further destination sometime .. Read Less

Amazing family holiday. Affordable and safe. This cruise to Mauritius - dates need to be amended as we docked in Mauritius on 31st December 2017. Mauritius was closed for business on the 1st and 2nd January , hence we could not do any of the excursions or catamaran boat cruises - very disappointed. Also the taxi service was despicable and over charged the people. I travel to Mauritius min twice a year for work and have never experienced such greedy taxi drivers. On board - some of the staff could be a bit more friendly , especially the senior receptionist (short blonde white girl red lips) who was so negative and everything seemed to be a problem for her. All the other staff was helpful and lovely to deal with. The Dream Team - pool games needs to be upgraded.(I did the Portuguese islands in 2014 and the entertainment was amazing. The theatre productions were OK , not phenomenal like the 2014 cruise I did - there was way to much ASS in your face dancing - -- took the essence of the theme out. The Bands were good and played relevant music in the lounges. Kids were on board - they had more fun in there rooms than in the Kids clubs. My 4 year old loved the mini juniors and loved going in the evenings. My 16 and 12 year old were not thrilled with the teens entertainment .... We always travel with MSC. This was our 4th cruise. Because we so enjoyed it in the past,I booked 3 cabins, taking my parents and children with. But this time I was very disappointed in a lot of things. In our Suite,I had to go to reception 3 times to ask them to fit a new bath tub plug,as the 1 in the bath was popping out. Aventually when someone came to check, almost at the end of our cruise he had an attitude.Suite1225 Then in my kids cabin the light was not working again we had to make several trips to reception to get it fixed. But the worst that made me want to scream was in my parents cabin. Firstly they never came to open my parents safe, even after numerous calls to reception. Then we kept telling them the aircon is not working right,it's always cold. One morning at breakfast my mom said she got so cold the previous night and phoned reception twice for extra bedding,as they did fixed the aircon. The bedding never came and they had to put jackets over them to keep warm. Then only after I went down to reception very angerly, did they send someone to fix the aircon. My mom was sick to begin with and then it was worsen by sleeping in a cold room. I must say this for me was not enjoyable and it was my parents first boat cruise I took them on. Cabins was always nice and clean, but for service from the other staff oh no bad. We were in the suites on deck 12 and they told us we need to pay to use deck 13. I was not told of this when I booked. I spesific told them I want the best suite on the vessel. Then when we had their new years eve bash,we weren't informed that we can buy tickets for that. Did a trip before and enjoyed it and decided to do it again but different destination. I expected the same, but a one or two unpleasant exposures, made me consider. My recommendation : Myself and the family would have enjoyed one more day in Reunion island, one day stop is to short. On Mauritius, the last day do not understand why the ship have to leave at two, why not leave at night say 20:00. this provide the last full day for excursions, With the 1st two days doing a lot of traveling to try to see so much just want one more day to spend at the beach and not to rush back to ship. On the unpleasantness: When myself and family dine, we expect a certain standard relate to noise, background music. If groups want to party or make noise they should arrange separate time or different diner and consider other people. Also please send the crew on some training in respect to client service. The receptionists is rude and the way some of the staff talk to you are uncalled for. Untended children on deck 12 and fighting light night indicate not enough security to deal with these situations. Two staff members that made it worthwhile were : Sigit and Vincent. if it were not for them it would have not been that positive experience. Read Less

I've chosen this cruise because of previous experiences as were regular cruisers however the two experiences differ completely. I'm extremely disappointed by this cruise through guest service as well as overall cleanliness of the entire experience. this time around things seemed impeccably unprofessional and slacked. Embarkation at durban port could improve as well as welcome services. However the bad experience for the first time in many cruises, entertainment always proves to be a thumbs us for me, well done to the theatre shows. Staff would come across as tired and uninterested and dining staff were completely delayed whereas bar services were more on point however we had an incident where a non-virgin drink had been given to my underage child and that was totally unacceptable! My family and i love cruising, however this experience had really put us off. i hope that these faults could be acknowledged and that in future cruises we won't ever come across such disappointments. We decided to treat the kids and go on a family cruise. After being on 2 previous cruises this one was a bit of a disappointment. Buffets were chaos with people pushing in and nobody monitoring it. Food for younger kids was a bit extravagant and didn't included many veggies. While the idea of a place to leave the kids for an hour or 2 is great; in reality it didn't work out at all. This was a big selling point for us in deciding whether or not to take the kids. The lady in the area that catered for kids up to 3 years old was not very child friendly. She was a foreigner and I battled to understand her and would imagine that my son would have no idea at all what she was saying. My son was not happy being left with a stranger and instead of consoling and distracting him; it was easier for her to just call us to fetch him after 10 minutes. In terms of entertainment; I think they need to advertise things better. One of the only events I was looking forward to was never advertised on the daily planner. While sitting on the pool deck we discovered that it was taking place already and we had no idea they were even having it. Would think long and hard about going again. Read Less

We were 6 excited Ladies who started planning our trip nearly a year ago and really look forward to our trip. The start was very, very disappointing as we had to stand in very long queues for 4 hours in stuffy, very hot conditions without refreshments being offered. We planned our arrival at the boat 12:00 to avoid this long process, but only arrived on the boat after 15:30 On the boat we had to queue further for other admin procedures No one informed us when we would depart, which was suppose to be at 15:00, never-the less we only departed after 19:00pm, without notice. If only they could have announced the departure time so we could experience leaving the Port from an upper deck. The service at the buffets was not friendly at all and the personnel could hardy understand English, so could not answer any questions we had. We absolutely loved the entertainment and dining at the Restaurants at night so that made up for the rest. The excursion the the Island was great and luckily we ended on time for our flight home, but as it goes.... the first impressions are the ones that lasts.... Read Less

Our ninth cruise and fourth to Mauritius. It was a disappointing cruise compared to the first few where the standard was set high. Over the years the trend of service is going only one way and that is not up. Where staff previously went out of their way to make you feel welcome this is no longer the case. In particular the bars and buffet restaurants were of great concern. Whilst there are more than enough staff very few are prepared to serve you as is expected from guests. Very little eye contact is made to draw someone's attention and when it is achieved the attitude is very unwelcome. On our last trip the excursion on Reunion Island was totally to St Gilles was a complete flop. We were dropped off at the incorrect place and while on the bus we were only told it was for a period of only 2 hours and that at more than $42 p.p. The tourists on the bus was not happy but the MSC lady was adamant that nothing can be done. To make the experience worth while we decided not to take the bus back but to do our own thing costing us additional transport fees of about 80 EURO. Back on the ship the excursion manager admitted their mistake only after looking for hundreds of excuses first. We were then offered a mere $12 refund on a life experience that went wrong. What a shame to the company that this is their attitude. Biggest problem for us was that we influenced two couples to take this excursion as we have done it 3 times before. It left a very bad taste. The ocean view cabin is small. Sharing with 2 children, ridiculously small. This was our first time on a MSC Cruise, and on South African water, and oh boy, this was not a smooth cruise. During the 7 nights, I had 7 sleepness nights as you were rocked from left to right, and back to front in this ship. The majority of the passengers were seasick on the day before disembarkation. Food is average. I get the impression that for the majority of South African passengers quantity counts more than quality, and that work perfectly for the MSC Sinfonia. MSC Sinfonia should really look at replacing the pool towels and the blankets for the extra beds in the rooms. Torn and worn out is not what you expect on a semi luxury ship. Good entertainment, junior kids club (7-11yrs) over crowded and not creative in kids entertainment. Rather have you kids spend time on the upper deck at the pool during the day, and in the cabin at night watching TV. We preferred the a la carte dining above the buffet dinner. Service at the various bars on deck 5 and 6 is slow, and not enough waiters. Will maybe try another MSC cruise, cruising abroad. Read Less
