I have cruised with MSC for many years. Yes they have change a lot off things to make the Embarkation easer and faster but still needs some improvement. We had easy on board. The desk with the 3 ladies helping you was a bit slow and thy struggle with the papers and marking off the people for easy on board. Mabey two counters will be better? From there it was easy through security and immigration. But then you hit the line for the photo in front off the ship. What a line! Why not make I line for people that wonts to take a picture and one for people just to pass by if you do not wont the photo taken. If you pass that photo session it was easy and fast again. We stayed in cabin 1225 on deck 12. Cabin was ready by 13:00 and we collected you cruise cards. Luggage was in front of the room around 15:30. The two chair out side on the balcony was a bid behind it us by date and needs a lot of attention. It lining of the chairs was coming loos and it was not nice to sit on them. Dining on deck 6 in II Cove was to standard and food was good as well as the service. We had breakfast on deck 5 in II Galeone but the service there was not up to standard you had to wait on someone to bring you coffee and the tables was not set after the people left. No butter on the table you had to ask for it. So MSC really needs to give attention to this. At Lunch there was just not enough waiters on the deck to serve every one and you hade to wait long times for someone to get you a drink if you get someone. Same in Manhaton Bar, just not enough waiters to help everyone. Entertainment was not on the same standard as that we have experience when Steven was the cruise director. You can just see that he is not there. The "Afrikaanse Sokkie" was also not nice organic as they tried to hold one so on the deck next to the swimming pool. There was just not enough space for everyone. Not a good experience, why not put a camera and show the stage on the big screen so everyone can at lees see the stage??? Then there is the Shelagh pub with the smokers. Can you please put a door or something the to keep the some inside. If you walk past there you can just smell smoke out side the pub and that is not nice to someone not smoking. Especially at night if you go down from 12 to 5 as this is the elevator the closes to you. The child swimming area needs some attention as not all the water nozzles and spouts work on there play area. Overhaul the service on the ship was not bad just not enough waiters to help all the people with drinks on the bar an deck areas. Disembarkation was fast and easy no problems at all. Read Less

Our MSC cruise to the Portuguese Islands started on the 9 March 2018. Unfortunately we had the unabridged birth certificate for our 5 year old son (an oversight on our part) and were stopped at the pre-check in point. Needless to say we were determined to get on board and after a failed attempt at one of the home affairs offices in DBN, we tried again at another office and finally obtained the Unabridged birth certificate. Alas we reached the check in point 10min after closing and pleaded to board especially after all our troubles. Our plea was heard and a big Thank You to Caycee Oliver and a gentleman at the pre- check in point who assisted with our check in and luggage, we literally ran on board. Needless to say with all the drama we were quite shaken when we finally boarded the ship. Our MSC cruise is something my family and I will remember for a long time to come and we cannot wait to go on the next one. From driving to the parking to checking in, to the facilities, activities and meals on board, everything was exceptional and extremely good value for money. We loved our balcony suite and the amazing sea view. The island visit was well coordinated and as exciting as the on board activities. My husband and I both come from Technical environments in our working and this results in probably higher expectations than normal. Our cruise exceeded even our highest expectations. MSC Cruises have managed to fine tune every part of the process from check in to disembarking to minute detail leaving us passengers in awe of the amazing experience this results in. I have been recommending the cruise ever since I got back.We cannot thank Caycee and her colleague enough for going the extra mile for us. Read Less

We love our Afrikaans local singers and thought, what better way to meet them and enjoy their music, than on a local cruise. The entire experience blew our minds away. We had great expectations and excitement of little kids. Our first cruise. The fellow passengers were friendly and in the same excitement mode as us. From the embarkation process right to the disembarkation, it felt like a reunion with old friends and family. We did not feel like strangers at all. Just after boarding we went to enjoy our first meal of the day. The staff, the food, the company, the dining area - unbelievably fantastic. Our expectations were exceeded by far. Couldn't believe that it could be possible. Going to our cabins - wow! As a family we were in awe. Could not wait to explore what the Sinfonia had more to offer. I must say, the staff - all over, were extremely friendly and helpful. What a delight! The cabin service was excellent, so clean and hygienic. No complaints. The entertainment; well we were exhausted after the cruise, because the entertainment was superb. We did not want to sleep, because there was sooo much to do - and we did not want to miss out on anything. We were also very impressed with the staff constantly cleaning - even on the pool deck. We had our 15 year old daughter with us, and even she had a blast! We were thrilled that she was safe on the vessel and no need for any paranoia around her safety. We made awesome friends and honestly can't wait for our next Super Sokkie Cruise 2019. It almost feels unfair to single out one single staff member. They were all absolutely amazing and we have great respect for all their extraordinary efforts to make it special for each passenger. One small suggestion - to have more staff at the pool deck pub and ice cream bar. Read Less

This was the second cruise on the MSC Sinfonia. The first cruise was amazing but this one was terrible. Book a cruise for my family. When i get on board i see there is a company function happening on board. That was not the problem. Almost the entire cruise there was only afrikaans music playing. I think that was unacceptable. Also staff on the ship where unhelpful and service at restaurants was average. Food was good at the sit down restaurants for dinner but other meals where average. I must commend the process when going ashore, very efficient. Entertainment should be for everyone not the majority From the first cruise to now big difference. Advise to Travellers : Ask before booking if there are any functions happening on the Ship. I always book the Balcony Suite, much larger rooms and you don't feel the rough sea's as bad as the lower rooms(my opinion). Read Less

We have been on several cruises and I love all the spoiling that we got. You feel like a million dollar from the start. From start , the ground crew very helpfull and friendly. We travel with my sister-in-law who was in a wheelchair. We went onboard very fast and with no problem. A friendly young man named Ritchy welcomed us onboard. With his friendly attitude I was looking forward to all that was coming. Every single one of the staff were great. Our cabin staff were great!! All the waiters were so good. Andrew were our waiter and what a lovely sole. He serve us with kindness. The dream team were great! The shows were great! So much food to choose from!!!! Ag everything were great. The only thing that we couldn't control were the weather. Even when we couldn't go to Punene we enjoy the intertainment onboard. The only thing that I will suggest is that you make the photos cheaper so that we can buy more and that all those beautiful photos doesn't get recycled. Well done to each of this special people that made our vacation unforgettable ..........just to be ready for the next lot of people aboard. WE SALUTE YOU!!!! THANK YOU Read Less

I wanted to explore Durban since i'm from Johannesburg. so a cruise after exploring Durban Beach was a perfect way to relax and explore other countries at the same time. It was my first time to see a ship and enter what a wonderful experience, the cabins are family friendly to share with children i would advise others to book early to get cabins that have windows to be able to see outside the ship, make use of Restaurants to experience 5 star treatment , attend all daily activities and most importantly travel with your family including children its a wonderful family experience and creates happy and unforgettable memories. I'm definitely going to Namibia for my next cruise. The service of all employees in the ship is outstanding, they always willing to help when requested. Ports and shore employees were also friendly and vigilant for our safety and made us comfortable and able to trust them with our lives. Thank you thank you and thank you for an awesome time. Portuguese Islands was fun. we could not get of the second island. service was good. anyone on the ship you ask for something. they will surely be able to assist you. the swimming pool deck was very nice. but if I can advise. It is very hot in that area. it would be nice is MSC can put up total shading at the swimming pool. the lady looking after the 3-0 baby was great. but the times was not so good. when there was night activities they where closed. After many years of saying we wanted to go on a cruise, we eventually booked our dream holiday. (its amazing that you only need to pay R3000.00 deposit and can then pay the balance off monthly up until 60 days prior to departure.) We decided that as we were already spending the money on a cruise we always dreamed of we will do the extra bits as well and booked EASY ON BOARD as well as the EXCLUSIVE LOUNGE on the Portuguese Island. The EASY ON BOARD was definitely worth the R250.00 we paid as we did not have to stand in the extensively long ques on arrival. We also decided to fly to Durban and make use of their Shuttle service which made the boarding process a lot faster as we did not have to worry about where and how to drop off our hand in luggage. We also decided to pay the extra +-R2000.00 to have a suite. This was definitely worth it as we were traveling with a 2yr old and the extra space and balcony made a huge difference. (we could still be outside and relax while he had nap time). Traveling with a toddler seemed daunting a first, the flight, the shuttle, boarding, mealtimes, activities, the Islands this all worried me beyond words. But the staff were amazing from our first arrival to dinner to just randomly around this ship, the staff were amazing with my little one and always helpful. We would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing, fun filled holiday, with / without kids. and we would definitely do it again ourselves. *P.S: If you are traveling to an Island stop with kids, definitely look at the exclusive lounge and the kiddies are then at least guaranteed shade. Would like to commend the cruise staff for a sterling job that they do... When we got in ohh wow...so there was food available for us to eat...the pizzas I must say they are the best ive had....the came time to go to our rooms...ohhhh was just impressed with the cleanliness and the neatness of the rooms... Everything on the ship..the food....drinks...entertainment exceeded my expectation...Im just happy that I had also experienced to be on the cruise... My only recommendation is to have that pics taken to be built in the cruise packages rather than us not taking them and they being destroyed. I took my elderly parents on the cruise and they really loved the experience. Disembarkation for the island was very late so we missed all the activities on the island and only got the last bits of lunch. One suggestion is the long walk from the Tenders to the location, this was extremely trying on my folks and maybe a 4x4 to transport the elderly to the Boma's might be an option. My Mom has had a Hip replacement so the walk in the sand and the heat was very difficult for her. The Island set up is fantastic but we were upset in missing the activities due to a late docking. The Balcony rooms is not suggested for 3 x adults very small and cramped. It would have been better to spend the little extra for a suite. On My previous cruise the entertainment was outstanding, this weekend felt a bit disjointed, the team was not connecting to the passengers and seemed uninterested - especially the dancers. Dinner was outstanding and the systems and efficiency awesome. The ship is magnificent and always a pleasure to be on. Read Less

We have been on 10 cruises with MSC to date, most of them on the Sinfonia. I am a gold card member and my wife is silver. I'm on the threshold of becoming a black member. Because MSC only offer longer cruises over December (which is what we enjoy but can't get away at that time), we had to choose to do back-to-back cruises to give us 7 nights away. 1. By choosing this option we obviously spend substantial time in port and not cruising. 2. We have no choice of destination but are forced to travel the same route with little variance both times. 3. We notice that the crew look very tired with the rapid turn around after such short cruises. 4. The menus are repeated exactly the same on both cruises which is not enjoyable. 5. Whilst the ship is well maintained, it is looking tired now and we do understand that this is her last season in SA. 6. Having been on so many cruises with MSC, the reduction in services was quite obvious to us. This was quite sad. From events, entertainment, number of staff, service in the theatre etc. 7. Our cabin steward whilst very pleasant seemed to have difficulty in remembering to refill toilet rolls, tissue and fill the ice bucket daily. Also glasses were left unwashed and we had to ask for all these items to be done. 8. The dining room staff with few exceptions were friendly and efficient. 9. There is a lot more self service and less waiter service. Selections have been reduced especially at lunch in the dining room and particularly desserts which are exactly the same every day. Read Less

You always meet new friends from all over the globe. Food is excellent, on the deck, in the dining room, taking in consideration the quantity of meals - 2000+. Always a break to remember, so many laughter and sometimes sadness listening to all the story's and watching all the guests enjoying their drinks and walking "strait" on a moving vessel. I had the opportunity to go on the Finesse NetvirdieGirls2018 cruise with my Mom, Mother-in-love, 2 sisters-in-love. The five of us started planning way in advance - Aug 2017 to be exact. We were all very excited as my Mom and myself told the other 3 ladies how luxurious the ships are. My mom and I have been on previous cruises with MSC. So we decided to do another cruise - MSC's reputation and affordability convinced us. Excitement was at the order of the day when we arrived at Durban port, but the loooong queues had our excitement dimmed very soon. However when we got onto the ship the excitement was back, We headed to our cabins and everyone oo'ed and aah'ed about the luxury of the ship as we walked around and used the lifts. When mom and I got to the cabin however, we were not so impressed anymore. The shower was very small - we did look at photos on the web, but this was really small. The room looked neat , but we accidentally moved the duvet and saw the state of the night frill. it was torn! So needless to say, we were not impressed. With the amount of money one pay, one would really expect the linen to be in better shape and the bathroom space to be a bit more spacious also. I understand MSC would want as many passengers on the ship as possible, but pushing people into the proverbial tin like fish is really not necessary. Ons goes on a cruise to relax - on the deck and in the cabin. So please MSC, think of the cabin sizes in future when you plan a new ship. Not everyone are petit people, there are taller and bigger guests on your ship too. Read Less

I have just come off an MSC Cruise in South Africa (26th February - 2nd March 2018). We boarded the Sinfonia at 12 o'clock and were due to depart at 2 p.m. The ship left at 3 p.m. and prior to our departure, it was announced whilst we were still docked in Durban, that due to strong winds and bad weather we would be changing our itinerary. Instead of going to the Portuguese Island on Tuesday, 27th Feb, we would be going to Maputo. And instead of being at Pomene on Wednesday, 28th Feb, we would be going to the Portuguese Island. We experienced magnificent weather on our cruise (no strong winds) and very calm seas. However, I do know that some 200 passengers from a Church Group headed by Prophet Bushiri, missed the ship in Durban and were boarded in Maputo the next day. This cruise had not been advertised as an event cruise. We had more than 1000 Prophet Shepherd Bushiri followers on board who were made to believe that it was their cruise and almost asked "What we were doing there?" I was asked by crew staff to leave various areas of the ship as they had been booked for events. This cruise was not advertised on the MSC website as an ''Event Cruise". I had confirmed when I did the booking that it was not an event cruise. There were many unhappy passengers on the cruise - who had not been told that this was a Prophetic Cruise with planned events in various areas of the ship. I saw a passenger being pushed out of the elevator. One of their staff members was highly traumatised by the events that occurred during our cruise. We couldn't use the pool on one of the days as they were baptising people in the ship's swimming pool. The San Carlo Theatre was used for their events as well as the Pasha Disco on various occasions. We felt as we were being diverted permanently due to their functions. I feel that the "guests who did not form part of the event" were being unfairly treated because many areas of the ship were out of bounds. The juice machines were often not replenished with more juice, coffee often ran out, the buffet restaurant was very dirty at times. And the food on the buffet of very poor quality! I have been on 4 international cruises and 4 South African Cruises with MSC and I have never, never experienced such a bad cruise before. Some staff on the ship were not responsive to guests complaints and told everyone to complaint to MSC once they were on land. I am a Gold Member. Bottom line, MSC was not transparent with its guests!!! Read Less

This was my 5th cruise-as you can see I love cruising with MSC but on this particular voyage-I was quite disappointed as it was quite crowded. In the buffet dining area there was no table management. You could see that the waitrons couldn't cope at times with the clearing of the tables as they were flooded with guests in the buffet area. I did complain on the ship and the customer services acknowledged and apologized with a bottle of champagne and snack platter which I was surprised with. Before we book it would be nice if MSC could inform us of groups that have booked as we were in for a shock this time around. We also didn't go to Pomene Island which we looked forward to. We did get off in Maputo and went for a walk into the city which was a nice change. We also went to Portugese Islands. The shows were boring for me as I must've seen the shows three times before. Carvin Goldstone was a change so that was nice. Previously there was an illusionist and that was very nice. I prefer more comedy. Although Darren seems quite a nice person - I really missed Stephen. There needs to be more music in the lounges and more exciting and different activities on offer. The public toilets need to be cleaned more often and a perfume spray used as it doesn't smell good. The prices of the photos are very expensive and although we did purchase once before it would be nicer if made more affordable. We also need to be asked if we want pics taken instead of being forced into taking pics as most people don't purchase them. The cleaning lady for our room was lovely-she was friendly. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We booked for the behind the scenes tour but was told that there wasn't the minimum amount of people so we didn't get to go. All in all it was a good time. Certain staff could be more pleasant as well (in restaurants). I will definitely go again and can't wait for the Musica - but it's just these few things that needs to be looked at. Read Less

Having cruised many times before I wondered if the standard would be maintained and I can honestly say it was. In fact several items have improved, such as the embarkation process which is now much smoother and quicker. This was a birthday cruise for a friend travelling with children and they were not bored for a single minute. In fact we seldom saw them! Although it was a little disappoining not being able to disemabark for the shore excursion since the weather did not permit, the staff quickly adjusted programmes and ensured that the guests were sufficiently entertained nonetheless. Most of the staff is very friendly and efficient, with nothing too much trouble. Though they must have heard the same comments and quips from guests a 1000 times you would never say it judging by their positive reactions. (MSC, if there is a place I can commend certain staff members please let me know) That said there were a few that were less than warm, but that is also understandable having witnessed some interactions with rude guests myself. If they are also treated with respect and friendliness they normally respond in the same manner, they are human after all, and have to endure tremendous amounts of pressure at times. The nightly shows were brilliant as ever, although it seemed to me that the entertainment crew were a bit low key and less visible around guests this time, but that's just my impression. The musicians / entertainers in the various lounges and bars were of an incredible standard, really world class. The food was delicious and generous, well prepared and just amazing. I can see the menus in the dining rooms seem to have been simplified which is actually quite nice, though it was always a good experience having the extra courses available on the past. The drinks vouchers/packages are definitely worthwhile, I would recommend using those. Overall a brilliant cruise and a reaffirmation of why I love it so very much! Can't wait to get onto another one! Read Less

The price was good. The food in the restaurant was amazing and the service was first class. The shows in the theatre were very amateurish except for the final show. The photographers were very annoying especially in the restaurant he was very rude. I also felt the bars and lounges should've had music during the day. The musicians were very good but we're only on at night. I would recommend MSC Cruises to my friends and family as they are great for relaxation and entertainment. I loved you could have Pizza Burgers &Chips anytime. The cabins were cleaned and the bathroom done to a high standard. All the facilities on board were 1st class. Your Dream Team were the best young group ever. I felt there could've been more people working in the bars during busy periods on the floor 11. It was disappointing not getting to the island. I look forward to going on the Musica if I can afford it. Read Less

A good break away. The meals in the diningroom were good and the service was good. Purtana Putran was a very attentive waitron. I was very disappointed by the shows. The first cruise in 2011 had fantastic shows and the subsequent 2 have deteriorated. Was disappointed we couldn't get onto Pomene. But otherwise happy with the service. The rolls made daily are to die for. The dreamteam kept thenp passengers well entertained. i would like to go on another cruise in 2years time to celebrate my 60th birthday, with my children and grandchildren. The pool area is lively. I felt that Shelaghs Bar should have had music during the day for the passengers that didn't want to be on the pool deck. Vernon is a very good entertainer, Morne's music was like elevator music, put one to sleep. But otherwise vs good time was had by my husband and myself, Read Less

An excellent holiday with service at its best. Right from the first step in and throughout every moment on board to sadly the last step out of the ship. Wish this journey would never come to an end. Theatre shows were magnificent...they comprised of international entertainers and viva sinfonia night was the absolute best. The chefs were very helpful towards our needs as vegetarians. Besides the restaurant food was readily available throughout the day at the buffet which the kids thoroughly enjoyed as it was right next to the pool making it convenient for them. The older kids enjoyed the parties the ship had to offer including the snow party the tropical themed party and the officers party. The staff were very friendly staff at the resturants and housekeeping. Children were taken care of at the kids club and cabins were cleaned twice a day. We never had a chance to complain even once. It is by far better than any 5 star hotel. Passengers and crew were all so accomodating and friendly It was truly one big united MSC Sinfonia family from the beginning to the end of the week. Im already looking to book my next cruise as it now has me hooked. Read Less

We had an amazing time on the MCS Sinfonia. Embarkation and Disembarkation was very well organized. We went on board smoothly and were having drinks by the time the last people arrived on the cruise Disembarkation was just as easy. Very well organized. There is absolutely nothing we can complain about. The weather was bad and we were not able to go to Pomene, but that is not something that can be helped. The crew came up with brilliant ideas to entertain us all anyway. Dining areas were always clean and well maintained. The food was really great, cabin - we had fairies cleaning our cabin. they came in every time we went out. A big thank you to the crew who clean up after so many people. My son was to get engaged on Pomene but proposed on the Sinfonia anyway. Entertainment - brilliant..... drinks ..... amazing. Thank you MSC Sinfonia. We will definitely be doing this again. Read Less
