Review for a Caribbean - Eastern Cruise on Explorer of the Seas

This was our 5th cruise with RCL and the most disappointing. The ship is in dire need of overhaul. Our balcony was peeling paint chips the size of dollar bills. We received a note while at sea that the balcony was to be repainted but they never showed up. The ship came in with stained and dirty windows everywhere and were never cleaned. The carpets were stained and needed replaced. We were stuck ...

First, let me say I never read reviews or look to much into what other people say about the ship or destination I'm heading to. I like to form my own opinions without looking for what others didn't like. I always find it ridiculous when people say one cruise line is better than another, or because they had a bad experience on a ship that they will never again sail with that company. You have to ...

We are a family of 4, with two kids aged 8 and 10. We just back from a 9 day cruise with Royal Caribbeans Explorer of the Seas, disembarking Cape Liberty NJ on March 11th, 2011, and included the ports of San Juan, St. Thomas, Samana, and Labadee (Haiti). This was our second cruise, our first being last March (2010) on the Carnival Spirit for 8 nights, out of San Diego, California. That cruise ...

This was our first RCCL cruise, although we are experienced cruisers. We've decided not to sail out of the Metropolitan area any more during the winter. Although we have sailed out of NY during January in the past and were fortunate to enjoy good weather, this time the sail out of this blek took forever. Four days down to St. Thomas was just too much; we've done this itinerary in the past and we ...

A Different Kind of Vacation

As a first-time cruiser, I went with Royal Caribbean's Explorer of the Seas from Feb. 5, 2010 to Feb. 14, 2010 to the Eastern Caribbean (San Juan, PR; St. Thomas, VI; Samana, Dominican Republic; Labadee, Haiti). There were some good things and some bad things and, frankly, I'm not sure I'd cruise again at all, or if I did, cruise again with RCCL. Some things were under RCCL's control, others ...

This was my fourth cruise and third cruise line. It will also probably be my last cruise on RCCL. The boarding was about as bad as it gets. Even though the port authority has control of some aspects of the boarding, the cruise line can, and must, take some steps to ameliorate the problems. We had to wait over an hour on the bus even after arriving late as requested. We were given no word from RCCL ...

RCCL needs a plan B when something goes wrong. After cruising 14 times, 4 w/RC, I have to say I the experience at Cape Liberty was enough to make me not want to cruise from that port again. I am sure you will see many reviews about the port. Simply said not one person knew what to do or handle people.I really do not know why NY city let RC go to NJ.The ship just out of dry dock for 10 days, was ...

Having never cruised before,we were naturally excited at our prospect of our luxury christmas and new year cruise. After having to wait over an hour and a half for a taxi that had been pre-booked finally reached Cape LIBERTY and endured another 40minute delay in the taxi before reaching the departure area. Well ...nothing had prepared us for choas that unfolded in the next 2 hours. Our expensive ...

Went on the 9 night Bermuda and eastern/southern caribbean cruise on Explorer. Our group included 2 diamond members, and 4 gold members in the C&A. Before departing we discovered via Cruise Critic of the damage to the ship. Also RCL had notified us of the C&A program changes and communication has been made with appropriate management about the unacceptable changes. Enough with the background off ...

Spent time in New York before the cruise at Hilton Garden Inn - recommended, good location, friendly staff, nice rooms & not over priced (like some NY hotels) Ended the stay at the Westin, Times Sq which i wouldn't recommend unless you get a good deal - overpriced, unfriendly and impersonal, although very nice rooms. I was told the Hampton Inn was good (it's in a great location) Got a car to ...
