Fantastic experience. Amazing places, with hundreds of thousands of penguins and seals in South Georgia Island (a must) and Antarctica, with hundreds of whales along the away, among others. Top notch crew with non-stop options for science and history explorations. Wonderful people who love what they do. Very good food with tons of choices. Very nice boat with great first class cabins. Quark ...

Five Days in Antarctica: whales, penguins and seals, oh my!

Review for Roald Amundsen to Antarctica

This was not just a cruise. It was an experience, and it met or exceeded our expectations. We have taken cruises before and always enjoyed them. Although we enjoyed this cruise too, it was more about seeing and exploring the wonders of the White Continent. The word "expedition" feels accurate. It was more adventurous than other cruises, and in that respect, it certainly met our ...

Not meet our expectations

Review for Viking Polaris to Antarctica

This is our third Viking cruise. We were very pleased with the first two but a little disappointed this time. Firstly, it is Antarctica expedition but the ship didn’t even reach the Antarctic circle. Most of the guests would probably not know that. The ship cruises around Antarctic peninsula where it is so close to the Antarctic Circle. It would be much greater psychologically for the guests ...

We chose the Viking cruise because it seemed to have the most to offer. An added bonus was this new ship! We especially enjoyed the common areas both inside and outside. One of our favorite spots was the Finse Terrace. The crew on the Polaris was top notch as well. Our cabin stewards went out of their way to make sure we had whatever we asked for. We celebrated not only New Year’s on board, ...

Highly successful daily planning by Captain and Expedition Manager to avoid bad weather and enjoy new experiences.

We have traveled with Viking River, and Viking Ocean, about 7 or 8 trips so far and have always been impressed with the Viking experience. This Viking Expedition trip did not disappoint. on the very first day we had a briefing from the Expedition Manager. After a consultation with the Captain the Expedition Manager informed all the guests that the original plan for our first day after crossing the ...

Landings were excellent including crossing the Antarctic circle. Great wildlife sightings and excellent scientific staff and crew.

I mainly went to Antarctica for the adventure and it did not disappoint. We were well informed about each landing and what to expect. Staff were knowledgeable and helped point out interesting findings including wildlife and geology when off the ship and they also gave fascinating lectures in the Aula on their specializations. Ship was excellent including well designed rooms and activities. I ...

Great luxury cruise but a BUST as an expedition!

Review for Viking Polaris to Antarctica

Great luxury cruise with beautiful scenery and penguins BUT a disappointment as an expedition. We did not get what we paid for which was 7 days of multiple water craft experiences and landings in Antarctica. Spent two extra days in Ushuaia waiting for smooth water to cross the Drake Passage. That reduced the expedition days to down to 5. Spent two 6.5 hour days on bus tours around Ushuaia. OK, ...

An absolutely magical experience. Incredible scenery and wildlife, scientists on board and leading expeditions, incredible food, very attentive and helpful staff and crew. The boat supports important research by faculty and grad students studying climate change, ornithology, geology, marine mammals, and a very significant study collecting data on the presence of microplastics in the Antarctic ...

I have had the privilege to travel to some fantastic places in my lifetime, but this trip under Captain Joergen Cardestig and crew was without a doubt way over the top of any of my other trips. The Captain made sure we had the absolute best trip ever. There were approximately 340 passengers and a crew of 273 and everyone of them just wanted you to have a great time. I spoke to cooks, servers, room ...

Just arrived back home from our Antarctica, South Georgia and Falklands Expedition. Originally our trip was booked for November 2021 but due to Covid, the trip was cancelled by Quark. We rescheduled for this December. We chose a longer expedition because we heard great things about South Georgia islands so we really wanted to have that included in our Bucket List trip of a lifetime. Quark ...
