We wanted to do something special for birthdays in the family, two of them in December during the cruise. We headed to Hawaii but might as well have flown. 4 sea days there and back were horrible. The second we stepped on deck, we smelled cigarette smoke, as smoking is permitted on Deck 2, indoors. There is really no way around it if you want to go to the casino, trivia events, or get on or off the ship. When we went to our stateroom, we found the toilet smelled disgusting, as it had not been cleaned because of the short turnover time between the last cruise and ours. They scrubbed it the next day and it was okay. The housekeepers are over worked, so they also get into such a routine they don’t check for when you run low on toilet paper or shampoo. We learned the Carnival Fun Hub app was also disappointing. We paid $5 per person for a chat feature that rarely worked. The app crashes more often than it works. Most importantly, we were told we would reach Oahu, Maui, Kona, and Hilo at given times. However, the organization was horrible. We left the ship 2 hours late each day, except for the last. We needed to leave the ship using tenders at Kona, but no one announced that we needed to obtain tickets to get off the ship or where to get them. A couple had their excursions cancelled because they couldn’t get off the ship on time even when prioritized. They weren’t allowed off the ship early, but had to take a ticket and wait, but they were not told this; they heard it from a fellow passenger. The Bacchus dining room is poorly lit and garish, it is filled with a theme of round purple lights and grape leaves everywhere. The gym is located in the front of the ship on Deck 9, one of the bumpiest places on the ship. Everyone on the treadmills was walking slowly or running while holding on. Being on a stationary bike was like biking while drunk. The entertainment on board was over much yet not enough. Every sea day, there were “wellness seminars,” trivia, games, lectures about Hawaii, or bands playing. There were different shows at night. They paid attention to the fun aspect much more than other aspects. The Carnival Miracle also has Park West Gallery on board, advertising marked up prices for so-so artists and their “hand embellished” art. These are printed paintings with dabs of paint added to them. Read Less

This was definitely a vacation from hell!! I have been on many cruises in my lifetime and this by far was the worst.. First of all they nickel and dime you for everything, Whoever heard of charging a $15 corkage fee for each bottle of wine you bring on board that you don’t need them to open. Secondly, the staff is very rude and it almost seems like they don’t want to be there..Most ships I’ve been on the staff are usually very friendly and upbeat. There is a lack of entertainment on this ship, I didn’t expect to spend 7,000 ( for my husband and I)on a cruise and have to find ways to entertain myself. Also this cruise seems to cater to the senior citizens because everything shut down pretty early. One night I was at the poolside bar with a couple of friends and there wasn’t a person in sight, I’m guessing that everyone turns in early for bed. One thing that really annoyed me about this cruise was the fact that everyone on our floor toilet stop working for a minimum of 15 hours and we were asked to use community washrooms in the hallways which were disgusting with vomit and feces all around them. Save your money and choose another cruise line because this one definitely dropped the ball in so many ways Read Less

The only ship that you can fly to to cruise around the Hawaiian Islands. The workers on the ship were very unfriendly and never seemed to smile due to being overworked long hours a day. The dining room food was horrible and there was nothing personal about the workers bringing you food. There was a roach crawling down the buffet room wall. They did not have late night food. The entertainment and activities left a lot to be desired. Nothing to do except go to a bar or go to the piano bar. The piano bar was alright. The 13th floor smoking bar was the best place to go even though a lot of people did not even smoke that went up there. The bartenders Kyle and Josh were the best things about the ship. They made it fun and made great drinks. Had it not been for the two of them it would have been terrible. The cabins were small but bearable. The ceiling throughout the ship were very low which made you feel suffocated. I had to get my commode fixed two times because it would not flush. No one seemed to helpful when you needed something. The ports and shore excursions were great. Nothing wrong with that. All in all I would not ever sail on this ship again. Read Less

We had chose this cruise to celebrate our 32nd Wedding Anniversary & also my daughter;s MA graduation, but also to see the Islands Of Hawaii. This is out fourth cruise , but first time crusing in Hawaii. We enjoyed the itinerary through the 4 Hawaii Island, but completely did not enjoyed NCL Pride Of America. In my opinon, having been on 4 other cruises on other cruiseline, NCL took advantage of being the only ship monopoly sailing the 4 island, inflated the fare to average $1617.00 per person , is what we paid, family of three $4850.74, offered horrible food, sloppy services, dirty smelly ship, public areas and stateroom. On embarkation @ 2:50 Pm, Our Anniversary Champange gifted to us by The Ourtrigger Hotel Waikiki was confiscated by NCL, citing security reason ! No welcome at embarkation, there were no one except security at the ship entrance. we did not have our lunch and make our way to Deck 11, Aloha Cafe, which was suppossed to be 24 hours buffet, as you would expect in any cruise ship. Most of the food station was empty and or half empty. Fruits juices that you dispensed from the dispenser were so diluted and taste so bad that you are better off drinking plain water and have your senses and taste bud insulted. The balcony stateroom was so small that when the third person extra bed in set up, there;s literally no walking space without having to climb on beds to wealk through. Stateroom floor was always empty, amenities not refilled, we have to call almost every other nights to get our conditioner replenish. Imagine the girls going wihout conditioner on their hair ? On our 2nd day on the cruise, raw sewage stench begin to exit into the ship HVAC System corridor and stateroom, it was so bad for several days that we have to open our balcony slider to take fresh sea air. Complaint to guest services were met with 'sorry' and a 'plate of chocolates'. My daughter and spouse nauseated several times. The raw sewage odor is so revolting that you will be overcome by it. See photos attached, breakfast at the buffet was like a 'war' packed with crowds fighting for table space and food. Most of the buffet chafing tray are always empty and or almost empty. I have yet to visit a day without seeing one easy, happy morning breakfast. Dirty rusty brooms are an usual sight on this ship ( See Photos ) One morning we decide to try the Main Dining room skyline Breakfast, for a change, our order for omelette was responded with, 'It will be a 45-minutes wait, Sir', would you like a scramble egg instead ? If you considering cruising Pride Of America, beware the ship's is very old and have serious mechanical HVAC Issues, permiting raw sewage stench into the guest staterooms and public areas, we came home feeling very sick from inhaling the sewage raw stench and eating the poor bad food served on board. See attached photos Read Less

This is an old, tired and run down ship that should be retired. The food in the Aloha Cafe was on par with the Golden Corral, tired looking and lukewarm. The bus staff were atrocious. They walked around like zombies, not noticing the dirty plates at the end of the table. We did try the main dining room for lunch and that was a mistake. The nachos and philly cheese steak we order came covered in melted cheese whiz. The food looked like it was under a food lamp for hours. A fast food meal is better than this meal. We must give cudo’s to the staff at Cagney, where we enjoyed a great meal and great service. The manager was very attentive. This meal was deferently the highlight of the cruise. The bathroom in our cabin was small where taking a proper shower was next to impossible. The only standout here was our cabin steward. We did not have time to check out the entertainment as it was poorly planned with the restaurant operations. For example, the Aloha Cafe opens at 6:00 pm and the first show was at 6:30 pm. This meant that we would have to go to later shows Over the earlier shoes. Basically, this cruise is not worth the money we paid for it. The premium we paid for was for an all American crew. There were only a select few of the crew who stood out and truly represented the Pride of America. You’re better flying to each island and booki a hotel on each if. NCL’s POA IS AN EPIC FAIL. I chose this cruise because it was a last minute decision and the only one going to Hawaii on the date that I needed. I will NEVER AGAIN sail with Norwegian. Many of the staff members are not only not very friendly, but downright rude — they argue back with their passengers. I encountered this not only myself but was witness to others, too. The elevators were another issue. There are thousands of passengers on board, but there are only seven elevators. Worst of all, they are so slow that I ended up just using the stairs. Norwegian also does not provide free WiFi. What institution in this time and day does not allow free WiFi? So I thought, okay, I don’t need their WiFi because I’ll just use my cellular data. Nope! They prevent you from using yours so that we have to purchase theirs. Norwegian also charges you a mandatory tip of 20% for all additional services from cleaning your room, buying drinks, room service, etc. Due to this MANDATORY tip, the staff feel no need to be extra good to their guests. For just choosing to sail with Norwegian, I had to dole out an additional $650 that was my automatically charged to my account regardless of whether I chose to get my room cleaned or not or whether their staff treated me well or not. Food is another issue. Overall, it’s mediocre at best. The breakfast buffet at Aloha Cafe was acceptable, but lunch was horrible. Dinner was exactly the same whether one dined at Liberty, the one that requires that all adults wear long pants or the Skyline, the one that allows complete casual wear. ALL of their pastries crumbled under my fork for some reason and the many of the foods were too salty for my taste. While on the ship, there was nothing to do. The only activity worthwhile for me were the lei making classes. The two pools that they had next to each other were too tiny that they resembled jacuzzis. Finally, my cabin’s restroom continued to smell of urine whether it was cleaned or not. It seemed that it might have been coming from the drains. The public restrooms in the men’s room didn’t have toilet liners. Read Less

First time cruiser, chose this cruise since it provided an opportunity to see 4 islands over 7 days. At last minute canceled all stops to the big island due to volcanic activity. Local tourism has taken a beating due to the media hype and it is just hype. They decided to stay in port at Honolulu one more day turning a 7 day, 4 island cruise into a 6 day, 3 island cruise. Not what i paid for and a measly 84 dollar credit for this change. Ship was nice, clean but food was meh. Nothing special. They say this is freestyle cruising meaning eat when you want, except for the 4 hours a day transitioning from breakfast to lunch and lunch to dinner. That just happened to be the times we wanted to eat, late lunch rather than a later dinner. Take note that all onboard charges for services include mandatory 20 % service charge which translates into the worst customer service! They could learn a lot from Disney, smiling, happy greetings, tentativeness. The bar staff were the worst but some of the others such as buffet staff were just as bad. They offer an upgrade option by bidding on deluxe, larger rooms, tried to win one and i made bids aggressively to win one but did not. Good luck if you try. Have to spend more than the cabin would have cost if you booked it. Onboard art auction is another money making scheme, not an auction at all, they start bidding less than but close to the retail price they quote. Read Less

My wife and I had our first cruise with Norwegian and we will never cruise with them again. This trip was for our 25th wedding anniversary and we took the 10 hour flight each way from Sydney to Honolulu to get there. We found out from our travel agent on the day we were leaving Australia that the ship would not go to Hilo on the Big Island due to the volcano and we spent the first 24 hours sitting in port at Honolulu. As we had already organised extra days at the end of the cruise to explore Oahu there was not much for us to do except stay onboard the ship. Then on the evening we were supposed to sail to Kona on the Big Island the Captain announced over the PA that we would not be stopping there either and would be spending a day at sea. Then the Cruise Director gets on the PA and tried to put a positive spin on the situation, which just came across as an insincere "snow job". So instead of stopping at four ports we only stopped at two - Kahului on Maui and Nawilili on Kauai. They were nice places to visit and I would have preferred an extra day on both Maui and Kauai instead of sitting in port or spending a day at sea. The volcano had been erupting since the 3rd of May so NCL could have made the decision not to go to the Big Island a lot earlier and arranged extra days on the other two islands to make up for it. The shore excursions we had booked from Australia at Hilo and Kona were cancelled and we were offered on board credit (but not a refund). When we tried to book other excursions we found that others had got in before us and most of the good excursions were booked out so we had to settle for the crumbs. The lady at the Shore Excursions desk was not very helpful and lacked empathy for the situation we were in. We had a mid-ship oceanview room, which was OK although the bathroom was very small and you had to be a contortionist to use the shower. Our cabin stewardess was very good and looked after us very well. The entertainment was very poor. Some of the singers couldn't stay in tune. The magician was poor. Toby Beau and Carre Stone were good. Fred Bevill the comedian was very good - at least my wife and I were able to have a laugh in spite of all the dissappointments. There was a strong smell of sewerage emanating from the rear of the ship near the corner with the starboard side which seemed comaptibel with the overall experience of our cruise. The windows of the ship were dirty and cloudy so I could not sit on the inside and enjoy the views. The only good thing I can say is that the food and the service in La Cucina, Jefferson's Bistro and Cagney's steakhouse was excellent. The food in the Aloha Cafe was OK but it was very busy and often difficult to get a table. Overall we had a terrible experience and wont be cruising with Norwegian again. Read Less

Our experience on the Pride of America was awful! We only went to two ports Maui and Kauai. They cancelled Hilo and Kona because of the volcanic activity. I have a friend who lives in Kona and she said the island was fine. We walked into Maui and there was a T.J. Max and Ross for less store. That's it! These ports that Norweigan stops at are WORKING PORTS. There is no shopping, and it was the same in Kauai, so if you don't have an excursion planned you are out of luck! The entertainment was terrible. The comedian was the only one worth seeing. The magician was terrible. You can see better magic on the streets of Las Vegas. How about Bingo? Norweigan only offered bingo twice for the full week. This is a ship that the median age is over 70 and they only offer it twice? Some ships have it twice a day. I don't think the ship was refurbished in 2016 because our medicine cabinet in the bathroom had mold in it. The best thing we did were the excursions. Some of the tour guides were complaining that norweigan did not let their customers know the appropriate clothing items to bring on the excursion. For example, the sunrise crater excursion, you should bring gloves, coat, blanket, flashlight etc. Lastly, I was told when I booked this cruise that I would be getting $300.00 in onboard credit. I never got it! I guess I'm not surprised because this was truly the vacation from hell. Read Less

This is my first cruise with Norwegian. Never again. This trip was to the Hawaiian Islands and Norwegian has a monopoly to the Islands so I think they don’t care to provide better service. To begin with, the bed was very uncomfortable. I could even feel the springs of the mattress. The windows of the ship were dirty and cloudy so I could not sit on the inside and enjoy the views. Entertainment was very poor. The evening when we were to go to the big island, we were told that they had decided not to go and that we would spend a day at sea and go back to Lahaina for an extra day. Since we had already been there, I had no interest in going back. I did not want to spend another whole day on the ship to I booked an excursion. Here we had to tender. This was a terrible experience. Poorly organized. To get back on the ship , we had to wait in line for about an hour in the sun and the heat. Since my original helicopter trip in the big island was cancelled, I tried to sign up for a different one in Kauai. I was told that they were all booked and would let me know if there was a cancellation. They never let me know of a cancellation but when my cabin mate came back from her helicopter ride, I found out that there was an empty seat right next to her. This was the worse cruise I have taken. The only good thing I can say is that the food on the two main dinning rooms was good. I did not care for the food in the buffet dinning area. Read Less

We are a family in our 40s that loves to cruise. We have been on Royal and Celebrity many times. Carnival only once. This was our first experience with NCL. We thought it would be a great way to see all the islands. The food was the horrible and horrible is being nice. Service was worse than that!! There are not many "Free" places but the food was not good even when you paid for it. The average age of our ship had to be 70 and up. The kids club for 13-17 had 3 teens.... closed most of the time anyway. Entertainment was sub-standard. We paid extra for a larger balcony and it was larger; however, it was longer not wider and the length took away from the size of the cabin making it smaller than any other ship we have been on. The room was in the worse location too and very noisy. The spa was the best part. We went there first and bought the thermal suites access for 100.00 each. (adults only) For them to lower the price 2 hours later to 75.00. Other ships have the thermal suites with a view but this one has no view just a wall. I tried to get my hair done 3 separate times and gave up. We never saw anyone actually getting their hair done but the staff always said they were booked. After 10 eating is limited to one place (Cadillac diner) which the food was ok but 45 min to 1 hour for chicken tender or a burger. The Aloha buffet has no variety and the close at odd times (breakfast over at 10 am, close all together between 5pm and 6pm. We ordered a Mai Tai (traditional Hawaiian drink) it tasted like a screw driver so we asked to make sure and the managers response was that they get complaints all the time that the bartenders do not make it right??? what? So we paid 25.00 for two 8oz drinks that were terrible. Lesson learned we just bought the rest off the ship. Read Less

I chose this ship because it was the only one that went around the islands from Honolulu. I have been on several different cruises and this was my worse experience ever. The employees walk around with frowns on their face and most are just starring out into space. There were dishes left on tables that workers just walked past, I had a difficult time getting my room made up. The food was average. I ate at the Aloha Cafe and the Cadillac diner. The food in the Aloha was cold which is why I ate at the Cadillac diner but their menu was limited and the service was slow. The waiter brought my food out shuffling her shoes she was so tired she couldn't even pick up her feet. We ate at the Key West Bar and the cook up there was this big guy that never smiles. He reminded me of Lurch on the Adams family and definitely scared me. Never smiles. They had an end of cruise tour that said if your flight leaves after 4 on Saturday you can take it and I said mine left at 4:35 and they said don't take it then cause they could not guarantee I would get back to the airport by 4. I asked why it was advertised like that they said they didn't know. It was very poor, no organization at all. Read Less

This will be our ONLY cruise on Princess. We had high hopes as my brother in law likes Princess and recommended it. We however hated it and here's why: Food - The meat and seafood was grossly overcooked. We sent stuff back, we ordered it "Medium Rare" - it sill came out slammed. The sides were disappointing as well. For the most part everything friend came out soggy. The buffet was horrible, food way soggy and overcooked. Beds - The Grand Princess beds were replaced just a few weeks before our voyage. We found the beds lacking in support and too soft and uneven. My back hurt for most of the cruise as a result. Crowds - The ship was like an Ant hill. Other cruise lines we've been on pack far fewer people onto a ship the size of the Grand Princess. There were lines and crowds everywhere. We've never had to wait in line for an hour for anytime dining before. We took to calling in at exactly 8AM to make reservations. So that pretty much killed doing anything else around that time. We found it very stressful. Embarkation - I've never seen a crowd that big in a terminal. We showed up a tad early for our appointed check in time but still had to queue up for almost 2 hours before we could board. There was also a 30 minute line to check in suitcases. Never seen a mess like that before. Rust Bucket - while the interior of the ship was worn but in pretty good cosmetic shape the exterior was horribly rusty. Systems such as the Vacuum toilets also broke down repeatedly. Cabin - We booked a mini-suite. It was the size of a regular veranda cabin on some of the other lines we were on. The storage was ample and there was a nice sofa seating area, but calling it a mini-suite was quite an exaggeration. Fitness - the Gym equipment was insufficient for the crowd on board and there was often a long wait for treadmills and ellipticals. The classes were too crowded and unpleasant. The public rooms were inadequate for the crowd. There's only one real theater on the Grand Princess, but the staff had it offline for "rehearsals" and shuffled off the popular enrichment activities to venues way too small for the audience. The only bright spots on the cruise were the Hula and Ukulele instructors and the Naturalist and Forensic Lecturers. They made the cruise for us, otherwise we'd have disembarked at the first port and flown home. I must point out that the staff was uniformly courteous and friendly even when they were not empowered to fix anything. Out cabin attendant was fantastic. All in all, we had a great time, because we didn't let the problems with the cruise get to us, but we'll never cruise on Princess or any Carnival property again. We'll stick with Celebrity and Oceania. Possibly trying some of the other higher end cruise lines. Read Less

We have always thought the Grand Princess was a great ship. HOWEVER, on this cruise we had a huge issue with both the Grand and Princess. The ship was heading to dry dock in Oregon after this cruise.... However, they also wanted to do some work while in transit. The transit work was banking on piping up on Deck 14 with very large hammers and more noise that you could imagine. Noise SO LOUD you could not think. AND ALMOST EVERYDAY. On this cruise there were more water leaks from the AC units then ever before. Our AC unit in our cabin C706 was NOT working half of the time. THE BED was the worst I have ever slept on. It was shaped like a banana front to rear. I was told that they had no other beds to exchange with. THIS was the biggest single problem encountered on this voyage. I know that they are exchanging out the beds at this up coming Dry Dock, but that did NOT help me out. We found that everything wrong was not going to be addressed UNTIL AFTER we get off the ship and they go to dry dock. We also had a very nasty accident happen on the third day out of Maui. The Tender Pontoon some how lowered into the water while we were moving along at 20 knots. This caused a lot of flooding and damage to the ship. We had to turn around and go back to Honolulu. There they decided we had to get off the ship and fly back. Read Less

Always wanted to circle around all the Hawaiian Islands. The entertainment (Showtime) was Superb ! We were really thrilled with Born to Dance show. It is a good as it get - Broadway style.... Fantastic !!! Our cabin C523 steward or attendant, Renato made our stay wonderful. He always kept our cabin in excellent, clean, and pleasant space to rest. He attended to our needs without us asking since he always made sure we met our requests. Our dining experience was exemplary having such attentive, knowledgeable, and pleasant waiters - Jeffrey Manantan and Edi Purnawan, I Ketut. They were always cordial and their pleasing personality always was made a nice evening for us. Other waiters like Fatima Santos and April Mercado also provided us service always with a smile and very attentive to our needs and always pleasant in conversing with them. These people makes our trip something unforgetable because of the attention they share to us. We are very satisifed with our dining experience and giving these folks a scale of 10. The only downside we had is maybe due to heavy demand of passengers in pursers desk, some of the women are snotty. I dont know if it is due to their British arrogance or what, or they are not really trained well. We tried to stay away from that area. The fact that we had a ship trouble, Princess still treated us well and can not say anything negative about the incident. Thank you to the ship Captain for caring on our behalf. Read Less

This was the worst cruise we have ever taken and we have cruised all over the world. We were looking forward to our NCL cruise around the Hawaiian Islands. This appears to be the only cruise line that does not start and end on mainland, requiring 8-10 days at sea and we would visit the island of Kauai which most other lines do not. The ship was advertised as being ‘refurbished’ this year but that ended with new carpet and furnishings. From the moment we stepped onboard the ship felt as if it was built in the 1970s and not well maintained. Ceilings were low and there was no style to the interiors. We found rust around windows in public areas. The only painting was spot painting done to cover patches in the infrastructure of the ship. This ship docks at industrial ports. Unless you buy excursions it is virtually impossible to see anything on the islands. The excursions appear to emphasize activities for young people who want to zip line, snorkel, scuba dive or fly into volcanic craters on helicopters. The best excursion for us was a trip to Volcanoes National Park and the Grand Circle Tour of Oahu. Food and food service was the worst we have ever experienced: bananas offered in the buffet were speckled the first day and rotten by the last day but still the only bananas available; food was never hot and vegetables never melted butter; and the service was always slow as if they did not have sufficient cooking or wait staff. Our cabin was very small and housekeeping had to be told to make up our room. We will never cruise on another NCL ship and we will definitely discourage others from cruising with NCL. Read Less
