Love Royal Carribean and have travelled with them a couple of times. We travelled with 2 other couples who have never cruised before. Arrival at port and onto boat was very quick. As soon as we got on the ship our friends were amazed. We had a full drinks package and all premium drinks and cocktails included and we definately made rhe most of it. Food was unbelievable as always and thought i was going to have to be rolled off when we arrived home. We picked the Canaries as we thought the weather would have been good at this time but a bit dissapointing (obviously nothing could have been done about that). Arrival at all ports was easy to get off abd back on. The only port that disappointed was Gran Canaria we arrived at port and nothing was opened so couldnt really do much. The only disappointment we had with the ship was the entertainment. We sold it to our friends as top class (as it had been kn previosly ships). I have never been on a cruise were the theatre shows were so poor that people were walking out. Take that tribute band had the place rocking and the Frankie vali and 4 seasons tribute were great but 2 nights out of 10 isnt enough. To put a cruise director on as a main act and a movie which was then shown outside was a joke. The entertainment was more like i would expect to see on a budget holiday not a cruise and a number of people commented on this. All in all however we had a great time and would definately return to Royal Carribean but not on the Explorer of the Seas. Read Less

Be careful when going into ports with Royal Caribbean they try and charge you for shuttle service. Ours was $9 per person to go to the edge of city centre. When we got off the ship, the local taxis charge 2.50 euros. The bar prices are also so high and sometimes the packages are not worth it. Also Do you research on the ports before you go. 3 of our ports were rubbish, nothing to do and just a normal town, might as well of stopped at home. Also one of the days the entire island was closed. Nothing was open. Yet they still try and push for an excursion to visit the old town where the main shopping centre is open, but the shops inside it weren’t. The entertainment team singers. (Chris & Vanessa) were superb, the best I’ve ever heard on any stage. WOW. The dancers were a little messy, but redeemed by the ballroom couple. The headliner guest acts were awful. The Frankie valli tribute sounded like Orville the Duck. He was also very weak and on occasion out of tune. The take that tribute were not bad. But let down badley by the guy playing Gary Barlow. He was not good. Cringe worthy. The food in the windjammer was excellent. The cabin steward was also excellent. The cruise director (Graeme) was so funny, made the cruise. Just wished he would walk around the ship more. The TV and stations needs looking at. Need to offer more choice. Also some areas around the ship are very cold. I would suggest for everyone to take a cardigan or ask the ship to make it less cold. Read Less

We have been with P & O in the past and have enjoyed it, I read some negative reviews previously but I could find no fault with this ship, staff, food, entertainnment. It was good value for money. The food in my opinion is some of the best I have enjoyed on any ship, the standard and presentation is excellent. I think if people complain about the standard of food in the restaurant then they must be hard to please. The choices are excellent each night and plentiful. Well done P & O. Plenty of shows although I do not usually go to many which is my personal choice. I enjoyed the cinema on sea days although not all films were to my personal preference. Plenty going on around the ship at different times and the Lisbon sail away party was excellent. It had to be held indoors due to bad weather but it was fun. The entertainment team were friendly and always made quizzes etc exciting and had banter with passengers. We has a large outside cabin as there were three in our party and it was plenty big enough for us. It had a large window which we all enjoyed especially when in port. Our cabin steward Angelo was excellent (Deck 9 cabin 192) he kept our cabin spotless and always found time to speak to us each time we saw him. All the staff we came across were really friendly and helpful. There was quite a lot of older passengers on this trip and I saw on more than one occassion staff helping them to their seats and carrying their trays in the buffet restaurant. I know from speaking to other passengers how much this was appreciated. It was quite nice not queing like you sometimes have to on the larger ships and we never had to wait long for the lift to get about (we have on the larger ships on many occasions). Drinks were reasonably priced a bottle of the house Rose was £16.50 which was very reasonable and it was a decent quality. A pint of John Smiths bitter was £4 10. We enjoyed a pre dinner drink at Andersons bar where you got snacks with your drinks in a lovely sophistacated atmosphere. I had read the ship looks tired well maybe in some places but in the main it is spotless clean and very classy. I know a lot of people who I spoke to love this ship and I can see why now I have been on it. Read Less

The cruise was taken with friends one of whom was to celebrate their 60th birthday during the 7 day cruise. No problems at airport or transfer but disappointed that on this cruise we had to deal with our own luggage. Slight mix up on room allocation due to being given wrong room number belonging to another couple with very similar names. Rectified before boarding boat and luggage arrived at right room. Our outside cabin on level 6 was plenty big enough for two, plenty of storage and kept clean by very attentive crew member. Food: Self service Sirens and Lido were okay, but sometimes over busy. Didn't seem as much choice as previous cruises. Orion waiter service was generally better, although two incidents of less professional service by one waiter who rushed us on Captains night but allowed others different service and then on final night a wine waiter who was busy doing other tasks rather than keeping our glasses full. Food in Mistrals pretty decent apart from Captains night when it was pretty dire. Also ate one night in Mistrals for the birthday celebration meal. Excellent service and good value. We were all inclusive and upgraded our drinks package. We thought this offered us wider variety and good value for money. Bar staff were excellent and only on a couple of times did we experience any delays in being served. All the music entertainment was pretty good. Not all to my individual taste but pretty good all the same. The shows in the Broadway Lounge were really good, including the guest comedian. The ship is old, but clean and well looked after. Sun beds can be difficult to find on sea days. Overall we would go on the Dream again but on a different route. Madeira was superb but the Canaries hold nothing new for use. Read Less

We are fairly recent cruisers and wanted a winter sun break and booked this cruise in January on line. The weather was superb and we were told by the crew the best they have had for several years. We flew from East Midlands to Tenerife and arrangements at departure, on arrival, coaching to Santa Cruz and boarding Marella Dream went like clockwork. The ship is old but is modern in appearance with good quality furnishings and the staff very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble from our room steward to the bar and restaurant staff. Corridors and lift space are a little narrow and not as spacious as more modern ships. The variety of lounges and drinking and dining options were first class as was the food and drinks. We like to be on our own for dinner and for six nights we were served by Jennifer and April who looked after us very well. The Marella Dream Show team and their shows in the Broadway Show Lounge were excellent. Some very good singers and dancers however the comedian Alan Wilkins material was older than us and we are in our 70's. The resident band were again very good with such a wide range of music on offer. Our only disappointment was the lack of space for sunbathing when we had such good weather. We were birthed in walking distance of six of the places we visited which is brilliant. There were lots of excursions and trips arranged which people we spoke to enjoyed. Leaving the cruise was also faultless, colour coded luggage and well organised. Our only disappointment was East Midlands Border Control on the return. It took about 30 minutes to process us which is not acceptable. A superb restful and enjoyable cruise. Thank you TUI. Read Less

We have only been on three previous cruises, all on small ships with quite personal service so this one at 1,500 passengers was big for us ! Our ports of call in the Canaries and Madeira were all fascinating, we thought that the excursions were overpriced and after finding that the handouts from the ship were not very helpful or accurate we headed for the tourist information offices at the places we visited. There was good information about the ports on-line but we used on-shore wi-fi and roaming Vodafone after a message that we would be charged £2.88 per minute for all calls, texts, and data on "Vodafone Marine" ! Our cabin, 1004, was quite good with a settee and table as well as TV and tea and coffee facilities and a good size window, a bit obscured by lifeboat access equipment. We had a problem with the safe which two visits from crew could not sort out, Dennis, an officer from reception was the second to try, we were pleased that the safe locked itself and refused to open until he put his override code in twice. He confirmed to us that it was faulty. I made a third visit to reception to complain and they refunded my money but were unable to provide a replacement safe for us or alternative safe storage for our valuables, apparently there is no safe at reception ! Our only option was to find a hiding place in the cabin. Please note there is no forseeable solution to this problem as replacement safes are apparently not available ! On our fifth day I was up early with diarrhoea and vomiting, I called reception as required and was visited by a doctor and nurse. They confirmed from my symptoms that it was not viral and therefore probably something that I had eaten so I could either stay in the cabin on immodium for 24 hours or visit the ships hospital for treatment which would see me well again in a couple of hours, I opted for the latter and had extensive blood tests and intravenous drugs, the treatment worked and I called back in the evening to check that all my obs. were normal. Excellent service but a tad dear at £1,400 plus ! Interesting to note that the previous day had been a "sea day" so it was most probably something that I had eaten on the ship. We unfortunately missed Lanzarote on my sick day. On the positive side, the crew were polite and helpful to a man ( or person I suppose I should say). The highlight of the cruise was the entertainment team, they worked non stop and were really professional and talented. The food was all pretty good ranging from canteen type buffets in various locations, made to order pancakes, omelettes and pizzas, a proper sit down restaurant with good service and "pay extra" speciality restaurants. We were on a full board but not " all inclusive " basis so we paid for the "wine package" which at about £14 per bottle compared to UK restaurant prices. Drinks at the bar were similar to pub prices. We enjoyed a lot of the cruise but there were things that let it down, there was no hot water on one evening and for the hour before the captains reception the whole ship was without any running water, the Captain did apologise and excused the smelly guests ! I registered all my complaints on-board and filled in the questionnaire on our return but there has been no offer of apology or compensation, in fact no response at all ! Read Less

We are quite experienced cruisers now, but never with Marella and if im honest I was a bit dubious given some of the reviews, but we were very pleasantly surprised. Yes the boat and decor is getting a bit tired in places, but we have really struggled to find too many negatives, the only ones really were having to pay for the use of the safe in the cabin (£15 for one week), and the shower in our cabin which was a little temperamental, going from hot to cold and back to hot and then cold again all on its own!! The main evening entertainment shows were easily some of the best we have seen, all the cast of singers and dancers were amazing with special comments for Luke, Danielle and Charlotte. The evening meals in the Orion were all of a great standard, very “British” but generally excellent in quality, as was the service given by the staff, look out for Carl and his team around table 100, they were all lovely! The crew on board were actually all by far the friendliest and happiest we have ever met, always saying hello whenever you passed them, and nothing seemed too much trouble for anyone. Our cabin was an inside this time, we would normally have an outside or balcony but for this week we were happy enough to take inside, it was compact but everything was clean and comfortable, TV was working and we got Sky sports news, an ITV channel and a few others, no problems at all really, except the safe and the shower as already mentioned. Nightly turn down service and chocolates on the pillow and several towel animals from our steward who was lovely, thank you Antoinette. We will definitely be looking into further Marella cruises from now on, maybe on a slightly newer and bigger ship though. Read Less

See cabin review below. The Victoria was in very good order, and nicely decorated for Xmas and NY. No welcome drink despite slick embarkation and with bags in cabin immediately. Entertainment in the evening was above average and during the day OK with good lecturers in the morning although the port lectures had funny timings. Plenty of quizzes and table & paddle tennis which suits us. The Lido restaurant was good with plenty of variety though just sometimes tricky to find a table . Dining in the Britannia Restaurant - The food was OK but often not exciting, though plates were hot. Service was professional but the waiter wasn't good at the socialising. Need to talk about Service Standards. The service overall wasn't as good as on other ships who do much much better in the Friendliness stakes and for going the extra mile. This was a surprise - not terrible but the others are much better, and we are experienced cruisers. I also suspect that staff were managed by the stick and not the carrot. Docking - Cunard was not in the best position at the docksides so longer walks and in Madeira were supposed to Tender and other ships were docked. Then the sea was rough so we did not get to Madeira! Luckily the NY fireworks were as good as ever - a real plus. Disembarkation was fine. Read Less

Well, entertainment is always wonderful they work so hard to please you and all the other members of staff who work on the ship work hard and they are always smiling. The ship is getting old but that is not always important, the areas are very clean from cabin to around the ship. There was an issue in our cabin and we told the cabin lad and he sorted it very quickly. It was a good Relaxing Holiday and my Wife and I will Cruise again soon. We were all inclusive and the food was excellent. We had a powerful shower in our cabin however the shower in the cabin we had for the day of leaving was not so good and temperature went up and down. If we had this cabin for all our cruise we would not have been please. On our return home Thompson were excellent when it came to all the trouble in Gatwick airport. We were allocated this cabin for the day and were able to use all the faciltities on the boat during the day. They then took us to the airport and on checking in they gave us 10 euros each to buy food and drink while we waited for our very delayed flight. Thank you Thompson we would defenetly travel with you again and recomend you.. Read Less

The ship is a lovely place to holiday on. The food was delicious and plentiful. The staff friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. How anyone could find fault with this ship they must be used to 5* plus. The entertainment crew were professional and the singer/comedian was very entertaining. The all you can eat buffet restaurants had lots of choices and even a chief cooking Chinese fresh for you. The all inclusive drinks package included in our price even included Prosecco. The swimming pool was freezing, it has a roof which covers over in bad weather. The jacuzzi was lovely and warm. There was just a lack of sunbeds on our day at sea which was to be expected, we had quizzes in the afternoons around the pool. There didn't seem to be any children until our ship picked up the night before we came off because it was the week before Christmas. Had a wonderful time on this ship. Read Less

Went with my mum and sister; chosen by my mum as she had not been to the Canary Islands before. Places included Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Palma, Madeira, Morocco and Lanzarote. The most positive part were the staff onboard who were always keen to help. Choice of and quality of meals was excellent. The entertainment team were excellent every night too. Due to adverse weather conditions, 2 of the nights were very rocky, and many felt sea sick; obviously not the fault of TUI. Poor weather continued for most days. The odd sunny day, it would have been nice to enjoy the sun beds on the top deck, but they were all taken, and the ones which were not had been "reserved" by selfish passengers draping towels over them. TUI need to address this. Another disappointment was that 2 of our excursions were cancelled; one due to not enough people booking ( hard to beleive that out of well over 1000 passengers, this could happen). Another was cancelled as filming for a movie was taking place in the area we were going to in Tenerife. The TV in our cabin did not work all week, as other passengers have mentioned. I guess we may well have been unlucky, and perhaps a cruise is not my kind of holiday. It seemed to be most popular with older passengers who prefer to stay onboard and enjoy making the most all the inclusive food and alcohol. When asked one afternoon by an elderly, overweight male passenger why I wasn't drinking, I was more than tempted to say "Because I don't want to look like you". I enjoyed using the gym several times. I would have preferred the choice of more activities such as yoga and aerobics. There was a pilates session on some mornings, but a bit too early and only if enough people turned up. Read Less

We booked this cruise because of the Comedy Legends which we had experienced on a previous cruise. The embarkation was very quick, we had journed by coach from Victoria coach station which due to traffic took 1 & half hours. We found the cabin rather tired though the beds were comfortable, the wash basin was old and did not hold water very well due to a worn mechanical system. The shower though was perfect. Another problem was that the ship was draughty, especially the main entertainment centre the 'Palladium' on the right hand side so we sat on the left which was slightly better, we did have one session when the temperature was decent but soon was back to draughty a couple of hours later. The entertainment was generally good, after all we did go to see the comedy hero's who did not dissapoint. The in house entertainment team did a good show, the dancers were very good, the singers were let down by a poor sound system which was far to loud, do they not have a desibel meter, I did hear that some people that had earing aids took them out. The food was generally good though in the self service bistro was not pipping hot even when there at the start of service, the 'Waterfront' where the evening dinner was taken the menu was sometimes difficult to understand to those who did not have the experience in this type of dinning, also the service was a bit long winded. During the hotter days there were plenty of sunbeds around but the we had the old problem of towels on beds but no bodies. Over all we had, for us, a pleasent 15 days but don't think we would book another cruise on the Columbus. Read Less

We’ve recently returned from a 14 night cruise of Spain and the Canary Islands. It’s our second time on this ship and our fourth with RCI. I can’t say I didn’t enjoy this holiday because I did, but there were a few issues that prevent me from giving this a five star review. The ship and the staff are incredible. Despite being very busy we didn’t encounter any of the over-crowding problems mentioned in other reviews. It never took more than a couple of minutes to get a drink, even at busy times. The food was generally good. The main dining room seems to have slipped a little since last year, but it’s still good. The speciality restaurants are all excellent and not too expensive if you pre-book a dining package before you get on board. I enjoyed all the bars and felt we received great service from the staff right across the ship. The delux drinks package is well worth having, with a great selection of spirits and cocktails. What lets it down is the quality of the wines. The reds and whites are pretty poor and the “champagne” is awful. It’s a non-descript sparking French wine which smells like a clogged drain. Our cabin, a balcony on deck 6, was okay. It looked a little tired in the places and the carpets and curtains were outdated, but it was a good size and kept clean and tidy. I slept well every night, even in rough seas, so the bed was very comfortable. The entertainment was excellent. There’s a first-rate production of Grease and the ice shows are stunning. The themed nights on the promenade are good fun though they do get very crowded and hot. We had a party under the stars one night on the upper decks which was fun too. What let the holiday down for me was the large number of children and teenagers onboard. We deliberately went during school term time but this seemed to make no difference. I know the Scottish half term took place during this fortnight but most of the kids were English, meaning they’d been kept out school for this trip. It resulted in all the issues raised in previous reviews: kids running around unsupervised, playing in the lifts late at night, etc. We were also unfortunate to encounter a lot of Diamond class snobs on this cruise. They bragged about the Diamond lounge like it was the holy grail, then proceeded to moan about it: how small it is, how common it’s become, how there are too many diamond members on the ship and they were forced to mingle with the “riff raff”. We had four of these people on a table of eight at dinner and I found the constant moaning to be a drain, especially in the second week. Not RC’s fault, just the luck of draw for table seating. I wouldn’t like to think I’d ever go on a huge, beautiful ship and spend most of my time sitting in a single cafeteria-style room, not matter how many points I’d achieved, just to feel special. The itinerary was good, with a nice balance of sea and shore days. I always enjoy the sea days with plenty to do across the ship. We had a bit off iffy weather on the way back: 5 metre waves and 60 mph winds, but the ship handled it well and with the stabilizers engaged it wasn’t too bad at all. It took about six hours to get through the worst of it, which we spent on a low deck, midship with little to worry about. So, to summarise, Independence is a wonderful ship with lots of do and enjoy, let down by the odd issue here and there. But with the recent refit designed to appeal to families rather than couples, I don’t think I’ll be sailing on her, or any RC ship, anytime soon. I’d rather book with an adult only company and guarantee a child free, more relaxing cruise. Read Less

Wanted a longer cruise outside the school holiday. Never been to the Canaries before. The ship was Beaty with a lot of decoration and art. Clean and good taken care of. Our incide cabin had everything we needed and a lot of places to store our things, perfectly located on deck nine between the two lifts. Our stateroom attendant Ida did a Great job and kept it clean and was so nice to us all the time. Had read so many reviews about the need of upgrade, but that was not my experience. Always chairs available outside and it was never difficult to swim in the three pools or find a place in one of the jacuzzi. The food was very good. Specially impressed by the food in Windjammer that had a lot of choices. Also had very nice food in the MD and very good service thanks to Luise and Felix. Did take the Galley brunch and visit the kitchen and can understand how much work it is for the people in the kitchen and for the waiters to serve all the passengers. Also had some meals in chops grill and Giovanni as part of a prebooked 5dinner package. The entertainment was overall very good with some extra memorable experiences as the ice-show, the Barricade boys, Perry Grant and Craig Halliday. Cuddly was a very good as entertainment manager. Only one bad experience; with the spa treatment with a big pressure of bying products, so don’t think I will take any more spa treatments in the future. Did very excursion wit RCCL in Lisbon and Agadir. The Hippo Hippo tour with Anna in Lisbon was fantastic fun and let us see some of the major places. I don’t think We would like to go by our self in Agadir but had an very nice guide and did not felt unsafe during the excursion. I also think they was so pushing selling things in Agadir as earlier experience in Morocco. The best excursion we had was in Lanzarote with Lanzarote Experience. We had a group of 13 with our very nice guide and driver Angela on the whole day trip called grand tour. We was able to see the Timanfaya National Park, wine growing area, cactus garden, Cuevas de los Verdes and Jameos del Agua. We also had a tour in La Corunna with Hercules tours, a two hour tour around the city. The other places as Vigo, Las Palmas and Madeira we just walked around the city, easy from the chip. Will recommend Navigator and the Canaries. Read Less

We chose it for the destination The food was awful 2* is being generous. The breakfast was the same very day greasy hard bacon cheap nasty sausage never changed . Every day was a stir fry or some obscure meat like beef cheeks nasty cheap food by the end of the cruise so many people were eating from the kids section as the food was slightly better. if you are vegetarian you would really struggle veggie curry and rice or cheese and salad . No late food apart from 11 to 11 30 when plates of Iceland type buffet food was taken Around the bars. You felt like a penguin being given fish . Most staff rude especially reception we went to complain about the lack of sun beds 450 for 1400 passengers.the receptionist rolled her eyes and picked up the phone twice while we were talking . People were taking sun beds when someone went for food and leaving belongings piled on the floor . There were arguments and near fights every day . The Crewe had their own deck with around 30 beds that weren’t being used we got a sun bed twice in 15 days and it was taken when we went for lunch . People were sitting on chairs taken from the buffet as there was nowhere to sit.we ended up going to the speciality restaurants they were a bit better but you shouldn’t have to pay . Entertainment was awful singers screeched out of tune people got up and walked out including us. We went to Tenerife on a Sunday everywhere was shut . Some of the places visited were too short 4 hours not enough time . Kids in pools couldn’t use till day ten when the made one adult only We lost tv signal on 3rd day . Incompetent management it all needs a massive review All in all this was my tenth and by far the worst cruise I would never sail with them again or recommend them to anyone I know . Read Less

Pick up from airport was hassle free, once we put our luggage on the bus we did not touch them again as they were delivered to our cabin. Our cabin number 1020 was fab lovely big cabin and lovely and clean. Our cabin steward Bagus was amazing he kept the place spotless. There a numerous bars on board all with very good entertainment the cruise director Taylor and his team did a fabulous job in ensuring that everyone has a good time. If I had to pick something it would be that the Broadway shows could be better. Bars staff are amazing and work extremely hard, staff that should out forme were Jodie and Roland in the Wave bar. Food was ok the sirens was by far the best place to eat, the worst was the Orion I expected better for a waiter served restaurant. We had steak one day and I asked for it medium rare only to be told it comes one way, having heard my parents rave about to food in this restaurant I was expecting better. The chocolate extravaganza was not like it used to be in fact it was very poor. If I had to make a recommendation it would be to open the Sirens in the evening and allow guest to access one of the 3 Alcarte restaurants free of charge during their stay. Read Less

We booked this cruise a few weeks before departure and hadn't read any reviews until after we booked. Having read the negative reviews we approached the holiday with some trepidation, but these were unfounded. Don't be put off by the negative reviews! Embarkation and disembarkation was very straightforward. Our cabin (an outside + on deck 7) was clean and spacious and we had no issues with anything cabinwise. The food was good, we ate in the buffet for breakfast and in the Orion restaurant for our evening meals. You could choose to have a table to yourselves or opt to share and make new friends. The staff were attentive and did everything with a smile. We didn't go fully inclusive, but found the drinks to be reasonably priced. We enjoyed the entertainment, cruise director Taylor has a great team and kept us all entertained throughout the day with quizzes, mystery voices and game shows, as well as the shows in the theatre in the evenings, and there were different musical acts in the various bars, really enjoyed Sound Nation. Only went on one organised trip - a bike ride with Abraham, which we really enjoyed! Other than that we made our own way using local transport, although the trips seemed to be reasonably priced. On the sea day I had some treatments in the spa - loved the hot stone massage! It was a very friendly cruise Overall this cruise (Canarian Flavours) on the Marella Dream was great value for money! Wouldn't hesitate to book another cruise on the Marella Dream Read Less

We have just returned from a fantastic week on the dream, the ship is a grand old white lady . Our room was nice and clean from what I could see but I didn’t go round on my hands and knees like some of the sad critics, as I didn’t have time as we were enjoying our holiday. The food was nice and hot , we ate mainly in the mdr as we like to be waited on and the staff worked really hard to please people. We really liked the entertainment and thought they worked really hard. The ports of call were good as well and having good weather made a big difference. This ship is not as glamorous as the Discovery ships, but we still had a great time and made some new friends. At the end of the day a holiday is what you make it, if you want to go looking for faults then I’m sure you will find some, but that’s not what we went for. We really liked this ship and it’s staff and would definitely go on her again. Ps If people come up to you when you first get on and start moaning then just tell them to do one as this happened to us, sad people. Go and enjoy Read Less

I booked this cruise as a last minute getaway for me and my wife. I have only been cruising once before on the crown princess so after looking at the reviews I was dreading my week away. How wrong could I have been. This was a fantastic cruise with fantastic staff. As a avid cook that enjoys cooking I loved the food and the way it was always perfectly cooked. I did hear of someone moaning because the scrambled egg wasn’t cooked. I’m sure Jeeves cooked theirs better at home, but Proper cooks cook scrambled eggs like you get them on the ship. The staff in the restaurants worked like pack mules and still had smiles on their faces. I received customer service that I never got in the two weeks on the crown princess, I really wished that the dream was my first cruise. Also read the reviews about the entertainment. Again very very wrong. Sound nation in the medusa lounge was fantastic. And it was hard to get a seat most nights, so if that’s worse than pub singers as reviews have said, I can only guess the pubs they go to are called trendy wine bars with violinists!!!! The entertainment staff was so attentive and made you feel like family not a number, cruise director Taylor has a great team in Fran,Susie,Katie and then there is Lewis, I think I broke ribs I laughed so much at his quips. Yes she has problems, she is a old ship and shows her age, but for what you paid for the ticket some people want staff walking behind them. I would say give her a try, make your own mind up, not just negative people finding little faults with her. Read Less

Booked this cruise at short notice because we needed cheering up after Christmas. So booked on impulse and paid before reviewing. Big mistake !!!! Our 4th cruise and the first with Tui. The first 3 were with another company and absolutely eye opening. They were brilliant. Not this one though, what a disapointment. The room was lovely in size as we chose a larger room outside, for an extra £45. A large window and space to move around each other was great. We were in the middle of the ship on deck 7. The furnishings are dated and tired but seemed to be clean. The first problem was when we went for a meal in Sirens, selve service, I was struggling with 2 cups of tea and a small plate with a snack on and put them on a tray. Wow, was I told off !! "Sorry but you cant have a tray". When I asked why I was told by the *white suit* they are only for the waiters to collect stuff with, not for passenger use. !!! This I found very odd. When I asked a waiter / cleaner upper he said they dont have enough trays !! A couple of days later the wife was suffering with a sore throat and feeling sick. After struggling a lot trying to bring food and drinks to the table by several trips to fetch food and drink I got fed up and asked at reception. I was told it was not safe to use a tray and not efficient, so they had withdrawn the use of trays. !!?? My wife got worse over the week and we put it down to a mild dose of flu due to the weather being windy and wet. We missed a port stop due to weather and not Tui's fault at all. The entertainment was a very poor standard and the 4 piece group would not have survived the first spot in my local pub and would have been paid off !!! The 2 girl due were very good, the pianist was exellent and the 3 boys in the casino end were so-so. ( Would have been just tolerated in a pub) . A shame but true. Senior staff were not as helpfull as the minions trying to be helpfull. A shortage of sun loungers by the pool and too many reserved. A trio of middle aged ladiest returned from line dancing, 12.30, that started at 11.00 am and were very miffed when there prime located sun beds were taken up !!! Some people ............. . Wife still poorly after arriving home. ( Ship doctor cost £90 and gave antbiotics ) I am generaly not one for being fussy but this ship was a joke !!!> Read Less

We and another couple wanted a short winter break. This holiday surpassed our expectations and to be fair, we are not that easily pleased. We wanted to travel on a cruise ship which took a smaller number of passengers than some of the larger cruise lines. We paid extra for an outside cabin on level 6 and the size was ideal. It was very clean and spacious and our cabin steward Effendi was excellent. The level of cleanliness and sanitisation on board was welcomed as having suffered Noro Virus in the past, I certainly did not want to experience that again! All of the crew were helpful and friendly and seemed happy in their work. We ate in the Orion restaurant most of the time and were fortunate to have the same table and waiting staff each evening. We were so well looked after by Gus, Catherine, Aaron and Mr Leeroy Brown. The food was excellent with great choices to suit all dietary requirements and as a vegetarian it was pleasing to be offered tofu, stir fries and vegetarian curries instead of the traditional vegetable lasagne or mushroom stroganoff!! We booked a couple of the optional excursions, which were most enjoyable and extremely well organised with our transport on quayside at the allotted time. We paid for the all inclusive package which proved worthwhile as you only have to show your cabin card for each purchase. We did not see the need to upgrade to the Premium package unless you are particular about the brand of spirits you prefer to drink. The Cruise Director Taylor was a consummate profressional and it was hard to believe he had only been on the Dream a short while. His entertainment team were so talented and each evening the show seemed to surpass the one from the night before. From arrival at London Gatwick on our outward journey when we checked into a Marella Dream desk for our luggage labels with our cabin numbers on, to leaving the ship where we were directed by the lovely Lewis from the Hosting team to our transfer coach for the journey home, we have nothing but praise for the whole crew. This may not be high end cruising but it has made for a memorable week for the four of us. I would recommend it wholeheartedly. Read Less

We have been on a few Thomson cruises before (now Tui Marella) We booked The Dream for a cheeky little get away. The ship is tired and not the most luxurious or glamorous but does what it says on the tin. The ship was at higher sanitation so the buffet service was not help yourself but served by staff wearing gloves. The ship was dull as they had stuff on the rails and windows to clean them. This made the tired ship more dowdy, and you had to sanitize hands at every corner. I dont mind this as would rather that then get sick. The pools were open but the whirlpool and sauna were shut which was disappointing We ate mainly in the main restaurant Orion as we like waiter service and it was lovely. The cabin was as advertised compact but nice enough, there is so much to do and see the cabin is for sleeping and showering and attended to every day by our cabin steward Aiko who was lovely, The food is amazing and the drink package is great, we were offered to upgrade for another £100 but it is not worth it the AI package is more than sufficient especially when you ask to see the list of things included...........not widely advertised so worth asking The entertainment was second to none and the cruise director Taylor was great. All the staff are great so pleasant and make you feel very welcome and at ease, except the shop assistants they were somewhat lacking and could certainly take tips from the others. Read Less
