When we were embarking we were greeted by the Staff with warmth and wonderful smiles. My 73 year old Mother and my self (52) were guided and felt completely secure with the staff on this vessel. The ship had 3levels the top was a sundeck with a walking track , putting green and plenty of loungers. There was even a smoking area for those that smoked. The mid section of the vessel was the accomidations which were clean and fresh looking. the rooms were quaint and up today, a safe in each room , but a no time did I feel the need to use it. The Dinning room was on the third floor and to no fault of the staff the buffet breakfasts and lunches were a little chaotic at times as the other passengers would t follow a cue line. The y were budding in and some times out and out rude. The food was awesome and plenty of it. The dinners were a service and our waiters were fantastic. Wine was flowing and they were quick to clean up the service. Our waiter Ivan was from Macedonia and he was professional but funny as well. The entertainment was mostly geared to seniors and so I wasn't so excited about that but you can't please every one all the time. The pool at the rear of the boat was lovely and most days / night we had it to our selves. The shore excursions were well put together especially when they split up into slow med and fast walking groups. My only disappointment was an extra excursion that I paid for $59. Eu that was for a wine tasting and that I would pass on if offered again.I would go again as the staff MADE the trip .THe Accommodations Manager and the Dinning room manager were TOP notch. I absolutly loved this river cruise I was so glad I went. Read Less

The itinerary was ideal. Starting in Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, Durnstein, Melk, Passau, Regensberg, Nuremberg, then 3 days in Prague to finish with. Budapest & Vienna are stunning with the other locations not far behind. The ship was very good and the staff excellent. The cabins were well appointed. Ours was at the back so suffered a bit from engine/propeller noise. We had the "drinks package" which made things a lot easier but all guests were entitled to wine, beer or soft drinks with lunch & dinner. The excursions generally were good with quite a lot of walking so not good for disabled/elderly passengers. The only real disappointment was the food. Breakfast was standard buffet fare. Lunch was also buffet-style and pretty limited in choice. Salads were available every day but quite often wth no cold meats or cheese. Dinner was generally ok but never really exciting and portions were never generous. We appreciate that we were on a small ship so they could never compare with larger sea cruise ships. However, having been on other river cruises, we did find the catering a tad disappointing. Evening entertainment was virtually non-existent but that was fine - we never expected (or wanted) it. However the "crew's show" was awful, little more than silly party games! In the evening the lounge/bar area was pretty noisy so a "quiet" area would have been good. Would we go with Emerald again? Probably yes but there are many other river cruise lines to try first. Read Less

this was our first cruise as my wife does not like the water. All the staff on the boat were very helpful and could not do enough for you they all seemed to enjoy their work. The boat was very modern. the food was excellent and a good selection. The day trips and the guides were very good and explained everything. The met us at the ship and gave commentary as we travelled along. On board there is a pool with a system to make the water flow so even though the pool is small you can swim into the flow without getting to the other end of the pool. there is hot drinks from the machines 24 hours a day and are included in the price. I would recommend the premium drinks package as it covers all drinks all day except champagne. I highly recommend this ship and all the staff. Had a great holiday. All tips are included in the price. Very smooth transfers. A wonderful new ship. It was our first experience of a river cruise and found that, although the cabin was a bit smaller than imagined it was very comfortable and very well kept by the housekeeping team. The food was wonderful and very well presented and served. There was a full itinerary of excellent activities/excursions. We particularly loved Arles, Des Baux, Pont du Gard and Beaune. The service was excellent. From the Cruise Director, Simona, who was excellent and seemed to work 24 hours a day, to the washer ups - everyone was great. Particular mention must go to Gabriella, Mihaela, Robert, Lewis, Stephanie, Adrian and Zoltan (along with the young man who worked alongside him whose name we unfortunately didn't get). They were all excellent and our thanks go to them all. We would definitely recommend this cruise to anyone and will look for at taking another trip with the same company in the future. Read Less

I chose this trip because I am interested in Eastern Europe and it certainly lived up to and beyond expectations. The excursions were long enough and I must admit I wish I could have spent more time in some places as there was so much to see. The local guides were excellent with vast knowledge ,only to happy to answer questions. The cruse was well organised and our cruise director Simona was excellent nothing was too much trouble. The ship was comfortable, never looked overcrowded and I liked the free seating at meal times,so that you could sit with friends.the evening entertainment was fun ,not too long. The sun decks were well stocked with comfortable seating Service on board was excellent all the staff were professional and attentive.Dining was good with plenty of choice. Cabins were spacious with lots of storage and very comfortable, even providing a fly screen if you wanted the window open. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the speakers - John Simpson, Martin Bell and Nick Thorpe. Most nights we were treated to informative and entertaining talks. The standard of accommodation was excellent. Dining could be described as 4 star - consistently good and well balanced throughout the week. We were very impressed by the meticulous planning of the activities and prompt timekeeping. Regarding the local guides, they were all first rate, knowledgeable and approachable with a good command of English. Most of the on shore visits were of interest but some were weak. However, it must be difficult to find venues at the very end of the season. There was a small swimming pool with current to swim against and bicycles on board to use at each port. We would be happy to recommend Emerald to others and would also consider cruising with them again. We would probably choose a different stretch of river. Read Less
