When we were embarking we were greeted by the Staff with warmth and wonderful smiles. My 73 year old Mother and my self (52) were guided and felt completely secure with the staff on this vessel. The ship had 3levels the top was a sundeck with a walking track , putting green and plenty of loungers. There was even a smoking area for those that smoked. The mid section of the vessel was the accomidations which were clean and fresh looking. the rooms were quaint and up today, a safe in each room , but a no time did I feel the need to use it. The Dinning room was on the third floor and to no fault of the staff the buffet breakfasts and lunches were a little chaotic at times as the other passengers would t follow a cue line. The y were budding in and some times out and out rude. The food was awesome and plenty of it. The dinners were a service and our waiters were fantastic. Wine was flowing and they were quick to clean up the service. Our waiter Ivan was from Macedonia and he was professional but funny as well. The entertainment was mostly geared to seniors and so I wasn't so excited about that but you can't please every one all the time. The pool at the rear of the boat was lovely and most days / night we had it to our selves. The shore excursions were well put together especially when they split up into slow med and fast walking groups. My only disappointment was an extra excursion that I paid for $59. Eu that was for a wine tasting and that I would pass on if offered again.I would go again as the staff MADE the trip .THe Accommodations Manager and the Dinning room manager were TOP notch. I absolutly loved this river cruise I was so glad I went. Read Less

We were welcomed on board and we're treated like family from the start. Food not your usual "international cuisine" but included real Portuguese gems. Fish was so well cooked, as we're the meat dishes. One of our party was a veggie who confirmed the range of food available was fab for non meat eaters. Complementary wine, beer and soft drinks with meals was not stunted. All wine served was local to the region and was a real complement to the food. A drinks package was off set by on board credit and gave unlimited access to branded drinks. Discovery of the trip was chilled pink port. Ship was extremely clean and comfortable, and the staff couldn't do enough for us. Vessel was stable when moving and it was wonderful to watch the countryside go by. Locks were great fun especially as you could get really close to the walls. Sundeck was lovely with partly covered areas which helped prevented me from burning. Pool was only thigh deep and you could sit on the floor and keep your head above water. Would have been nice if a little deeper. Trips away from the ship were very interesting and the guides had a very good knowledge of their subjects. I'd recommend the evening event to the local vineyard as the wines, port and food excelled themselves. It could do with being a bit longer so you can soak up more of the atmosphere. Holiday not suitable for young children or young families as the average age of the fellow passengers was late 60 ' s at the youngest. We're all in our 50 ' s so managed to cope; any younger and you'll not have as much fun. Less able bodied people will enjoy the whole experience but you may struggle at times, although the crew will do their best to help. Overall a very comfortable enjoyable cruise with a very friendly crew, superb food and a great introduction to Portugal. Shout out to Luis, Carla, Elizabeta, Carlos, Francisco, Eduardo, Roberta, Bruno, Cornel and Captain Alphonso Rivera. X X X Read Less

We have been on several river cruises but not cruised with this company. Many lines offer this trip but Emerald seemed to have the best sounding itinerary and inclusions for a Danube trip. The whole cruiser, our cabins, public rooms and spaces were all excellent. Food was to die for, 4 -5 courses or extensive buffet at three meals a day. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff to attend to our needs/requests. The onshore trips were well balanced between coach and guided walking. without exception very experienced guides amusing and informative, sensitive in pace and focus to the nature of the (small) group they lead. I was interested to see some people on the 'active elements' arranged for them. We have not encountered this before. The extra cruising along the Danube in Budapest, after dark, on our last night, was just magical. i strongly recommend this trip and this company. Read Less

We chose this for its destinations, as it was along the lower reaches of the Danube, which we didn't know. Embarkation was very smooth, though it was a pity there wasn't more time in Budapest. The cruise was full of interesting trips, including visits to a school in Bulgaria, and a lunch with a local family in Croatia. All of the local guides were experienced, very knowledgeable, and spoke good English. The Cruise Director also gave us interesting daily talks on the countries we were visiting. On two evenings we had excellent local dancers/singers on board. Everybody I spoke to enjoyed the cruise very much; the ship is lovely, with good size cabins and lounge, and the food reflected the countries we were visiting. The service was excellent, and the staff (mainly East European) friendly, relaxed and efficient. There is an attractive indoor swimming pool, and a minute fitness room. WE did feel that during the one day with no port stop there could have been more activities arranged, especially as it rained solidly all day.We finished with 3 nights in the Sheraton in Bucharest, which is a stunning city. We mainly found our own meals in Bucharest, but we did feel that more could have been made of the final night's dinner, which was uninspiring and a big contrast to the excellent on-board meals. We certainly plan to travel again with this company, and would recommend this particular cruise as something a bit different. Read Less

This was our first River Cruise and I didnt know what to expect but was told that this company was a good choice as it was a bit funkier than some of the other more old fashioned ones and had a stylish feel. We couldnt have been happier and are already looking at booking for next year - the staff have to be the best we have encountered - they were incredibly friendly and helpful and all seemed to do about 3 jobs The excursions were brilliant and were a good mixture of being informative without sounding like your history teacher reeling off a list of dates (I almost fell asleep on one cruise lines excursion round Dubrovnik) We cruised the Danube and as Ive never visited this part of Europe before all the places we visited were new to me. As for peoples comments re double docking we did a Nile Cruise a few years ago so were expecting this so it didnt spoil our trip We had an amazing cabin - Grand Balcony Suite (cabin number 310) which had a coffee pod machine so i could make a coffee while the other half got ready for breakfast - we also had free wi-fi so each morning i checked my emails and the latest news at the same time. The food was good and also on some of the nights we had a small cinema type screen showing films which i prefer to piano players or cabaret bands Probably the best thing for me was the pool as I'm a bit of a water baby and it was a bit like swimming on your own private yacht. Having cruised on big ships with Princess, and Royal Caribbean and having had a so-so Nile experience i have to be honest I thought id be under whelmed but it was a bit of an eye opener and just trying to think which river to do next but we'll definitely be booking with Emerald again Read Less
