We had heard so much about Portugal and decided to go. We had gone on Emerald Liberte in the Spring and enjoyed ourselves, despite the French strike.
The staff and the food are fantastic! Chef Marinho is gifted for such a young man. The Captain is 28 years old and he navigates the Douro perfectly.
The excursions are informative and well thought out. The little extras they fit in were ...
The service and people on the cruise were exceptional at every level. One disappointment was the evening entertainment. We would prefer after dinner lounge entertainment such as a quiet piano player in the background to relax to. This was more games and competition in the evening. One night was a singer and piano, who was very good. Being able to get out of the room and talk with friends in a ...
Enjoyed the Luna. Carla and many many others work very hard (hope they get paid enough). Food was well prepared, fresh, appealing and LOADS OF CHOICES! Something for everyone. Clean thru out - from rooms to hallways. Wasn’t so fond of docking a lot during day with one and sometimes 2 ships on either side. Rhine wasn’t (in my opinion as lovely as Danube). Included excursions were well planned ...
We wanted to see historic Europe in a guided carefree way. The actual cruise and destinations were awesome. We seen so much history and met some wonderful interesting people. Emerald really did a good job organizing the itinerary. However there was so much coughing and people that were very sick. The ambulance came to the ship 5 times and took people away. My wife contracted pneumonia and is still ...
Boarding was good we were able to have lunch and drinks in the lounge while waiting for rooms to be ready.
Recommendation. Could use more good evening entertainment. Piano but no piano man.
Bell ringers and violinist had to end their shows early to get off the boat so we could sail.
Dining room very crowded. Not much room to move around.
Ports always seemed in industrial areas. ...
It has always been a "bucket list" thing for me to do. The size of the ship (less than 200 passengers), time away (14-15 days) and iconic destinations were significant considerations in choosing this cruise. It was a fantastic experience! The activities and places visited were fabulous and we had a great time strolling about taking the included walking tours with the local guides and the local ...
We wanted to experience a river cruise and the price was reasonable. Got off to a bad start as we were left sitting on the bus from airport to the ship for more than two and half hours while waiting for late arrivals. Even suggested we got off and walk a good distance back to the terminal if we wanted to use the facilities as there was still no word of moving off.
We did and bought water ...
Having done numerous sea cruises from budget to luxury lines we thought it was time to try a river cruise.
The Emerald Luna Amsterdam to Basel suited us fine .
The ship is small but beautiful, we had a cabin on deck one low level which was nice comfortable but very noisy with constant flushing of the vacuum toilets through the night.
The fellow travellers were mostly American and great ...
Initial embarkation was straightforward, as the ship was docked adjacent to the port, but if this is not the case as we encountered later, it can be a matter of luck whether there is a straight walk through another ship, or if one has to climb to the sun deck, traverse two sun decks, and down again to the dock. As I am able to walk a few steps with assistance, this was less of a problem for me, ...
Emerald Liberte was a slightly smaller ship to those that Emerald have on the Rhine and Danube - but still had the covered swimming pool at the back end of Horizon Deck and the relaxing area around it. My favourite place on these ships and one reason I prefer Emerald. The schedule also included a tour to Beaune from Chalon-sur-Saone, with a visit to its amazing Hospices de Beaune. Not offered on ...
