This was technically a 22 day cruise, but we only did the 11 day portion of Barcelona to Rome. We chose this cruise because of the itinerary plus the price and the perks were good. There were 7 of us and overall, it was a great experience. The staff was excellent and the passengers were very friendly. We all made new friends. It is a beautiful ship. The piazza midship is stunning. We all agreed the cabins could do with a freshening up in decor; it was a little bit dated. However, the rooms were spotless. The mini-suites are large and roomy with a full size bathroom and lots of storage. My parents and sister had electrical and plumbing problems with their room, but Dennis, their steward, handled the situations promptly and efficiently. The food experience onboard got mixed reviews amongst our group. My parents and sister did not enjoy their main dining dinner experience the first night onboard and never went back. The group went to Steamers one night and those that had the mussels enjoyed the experience, but those that had the fried platter were disappointed. We all enjoyed: Share, Crown Grill, World Market Buffet, The Salty Dog Grill on the lido deck, Slices, The International Cafe, Room Service & Coffees and Cones. We only saw a couple of the shows in the Princess Theatre and they were fun. Karaoke in Club Fusion was good. The Maitre D wine tasting experience was excellent as was the Love Boat disco party. Embarkation was poorly done, but disembarkation was a breeze. For our group, the shore excursions booked through the cruise ship were the biggest disappointment, specifically those that took ship tours to Marseilles, Florence and Capri. It's a lot of money to put out and not have a wonderful time. All in all it was a great time and we would definitely consider another Princess cruise in the future. Read Less

My sisters and I chose this cruise because of the itinerary and length of time to enjoy together. The ship was amazing and staff were incredibly kind and personable. We loved the entertainment, especially Kory Simon the piano man and the shows. Meals were sensational and a speciality meal in the Crown Grill surpasses our expectations. The scenery of the countries we visited and history of Europe is fascinating. 21 days flew as we enjoyed every aspect of the ship, the staff and fellow passengers. The international cafe was a hotspot after excursions for a relaxing drink and snack before our formal dining room experience and we also could tan in the afternoon high tea at three if we chose high was so nicely served. The crowd control was very well dealt with by offering so many different venues throughout the ship as well which made it feel very comfortable. I loved every minute of the 21 days and my next trip will be longer- again with Princess Cruises! Kudos to Princess! Read Less

We chose this cruise as we had a large party and it was basically the one that suited all. That said there was some thought that there may have been better cruise available - that was proved incorrect as we all loved it. The embarkation process was seamless and very fast. Baggage assistants on the wharf helped the process and our luggage was in our room when we opened the door. The condition of the ship at present is very good with no real sign anywhere of wear and tear. Common areas are very nice and well maintained. The stateroom was above our exceptions in size and condition. The itinerary from Barcelona to Athens was very impressive and some notable surprises for us in Gibraltar and Kotor. We all agreed that what we saw of Marseilles made it our least favourite port. Stateroom steward was perfect....there when you needed him otherwise rarely saw him. he kept the room spotless. Meals were spot-on. Be aware that if you are doing a 14 or 21 day Med cruise that your menu will basically repeat every 7 days. Shore tours were very good and ran smoothly. Read Less

Had a great time & ready to go on another Princess Cruise. The only cruise line we have been on. We will book another cruise to Hawaii in the future. We needed more time in Hawaii to see more that we missed. The entertainment, staff, & rooms on Princess are the best so far. Everything from getting on embarkation to disembarkation is so organized. It’s truly an amazing experience to cruise. We will be on more in future with Princess. Another thing is the passengers are mostly nice and courteous. Many have been on 50+ cruises & several times Princess Cruise line. I asked a couple people their favorite cruise line & it was Princess. In addition, I have a 11y/o who has twice enjoyed the Kids Club. The staff takes care of the kids really well. Keeps them busy, & the kids really enjoy all the fun activities. This makes me feel like my kid is safe too. Read Less

This was a pleasant cruise that went smoothly and no major problems. The embarkation and the disembarkation was the smoothest EVER. Cabin was nice but I would look to upgrade for more room. Dining and Cabin staff were excellent. Entertainment was good but could not get into some of the Theater early shows. Activities were excellent. Service personnel were friendly and effect. Honolulu was a port that had lots to offer. One day was not a lot of time to see things. The other ports could have used an extra hour or two but it was acceptable. LA was an excellent city to explore before the cruise. We took a city tour before the trip and went to Santa Monica Pier after the cruise. Getting to the departure city a day before would be HIGHLY recommended. Many tours are available in LA. I will definitely be going on another Princess cruise. Read Less

This was an amazing trip. We enjoyed our time on the cruise start to finish. From the Captain to the pizza chef, we felt everyone was working to meet our expectations. Our cabin was laid out well and we had a super Stewart called Antonio. The meals were good and the service excellent. We had pizza a few times and it was very tastee. There was a varied schedule of events that were always well led and free. The International Cafe was open 24 hours a day with various delicious snacks and sandwiches. We made all our ports despite the bad weather and the only ship cruising Hawaii to do so that week. The computer lab was well staffed and the guys were helpful and patient. There were several cocktail parties and the ship’s Captain offered passengers the opportunity to have a picture taken with our own camera. Invited my Sister and Brother-in-Law for their first time Princess cruise and they really enjoyed themselves, my BIL wanted a really short cruise and he got it. Our stateroom attendant was a dream come true who helped us so much with my Sister and Brother-in-Law. The stateroom was just below Lido deck so I did not have a long walk and elevator ride in the mornings when taking my Wife her first cup of coffee. We were also close to the elevators and the laundry room. Everyone greeted us and there were smiles everywhere. The entertainment was great and the comedian was really funny. Food selection was great and the service was excellent but tables were at times scarce in the Horizon Court. We really likes the fresh made Pizza and the Ice Cream bar. The Captain spoke to us on the intercom system a number of times and he has a funny side which was a delight. Read Less

I was not the one to choose this cruise, because a relative generously took our whole extended family on it and covered the cost. But I couldn't have asked for a better experience: the rooms were comfortable and clean, the service was extraordinary and flawless, the entertainment was excellent, and the ship itself was beautiful. There were so many things to do and it was all perfectly organized. I especially appreciated the Princess app that allowed people to set up a messaging system with other devices on board, which was a plus because of how large our group was. The dining was amazing as well, especially the sit-down dinners in the formal dining rooms. The activities were diverse and interesting, and well-designed. Embarkation went well, especially because the porters took our bags to our room for us, but disembarkation was much harder and there was little organization. When we reached port in Cabo San Lucas, the tender system worked very well and we had little trouble exploring the city. We knew everything we needed to know about the ship's departure times and when the last tender was going to leave, so that was very helpful. The service on board was, as I said, excellent, but there were many people who did not speak English as a first language and it made them very difficult to understand. Read Less

Hi all Unlike many other reviews, we found the Emerald Princess to be just about perfect. Oh sure, there are a few areas that show some wear, and a few employees that don't smile as much as others, but quite honestly, we go to relax and enjoy the food, each other, and scenery and don't pay much attention to trivial things. MDR food was better than i remember from other Princess cruises. Everything was great and seasoned well. SHARE is a gem. Magdalena was the best waitress we have had, and the food was perfect. Pizza is always awesome, and even the buffet food was good and fresh. Cabin was nice. The setup for the fourth berth out of the ceiling is a bit clunky, but after a few minutes we learned to work around it. 24 hours in Cabo was great. Its nice to have time to explore a port and not worry about rushing about to get back before the ship leaves. I recommend anyone to do this itinerary for that. We showed up at our arrival time as provided by Princess, and as a result, we were on the ship in 15 minutes. Kids club was a smash for our 7 and 10 year old, they were crying the last night because they didn't want to leave and had so much fun. Great staff here too, very patient and professional Read Less

Wow!! Princess runs an extremely well organized cruise. Our excursion was fantastic. The service on board was amazing and the picture package was a total value!!!! We had the best formal dining room experience with an incredibly wonderful wait staff. It was every thing we would have wanted in a cruise experience. The comedian on board was the best comedian I’ve ever seen in person. My kids and I enjoyed the warm weather and sat in the hot tub on many occasions. The couples massage we received on board was fantastic except for the sales pitch that came at the end of the massage. Unfortunately, that tainted our relaxation experience a little bit. They tried to sell us oil and acupuncture treatments at the end. Bad call and disappointing. Honestly, that is the only negative experience we had for the whole week. I really can’t say enough good things about our cruise experience. We would travel on princess anytime. The boarding and disembarking was so smoothe and easy as well. . Read Less

This cruise was chosen for my by family members, to celebrate my dad's 80th birthday. I was excited to go to Alaska and Canada. This cruise exceeded my expectations and went beyond. Everyone in our 14 person party had a great time. We were never bored, in fact I wanted more time during my day so I could do more activities. I was often trying to decide which activity to participate in. The entertainment spanned from bingo, music shows, comedians and trivia to art shows, wine tasting and movies. We went swimming (yes in Alaska) and it was marvelous. There was golf putting basketball and other games up top. They were seriously so fun The cities we visited were beautiful and prepared for the disembarkment of multiple cruises with thousands of people. We were able to shop, hike, go whale watching, see amazing glaciers, waterfalls and wildlife. I highly recommend this cruise. I've already told my friends about it and recommended to them that they go. Read Less

We cruised on Ruby Princess a few months ago to Mexico and were very impressed with the line so we booked our AK trip with Princess too. Entertainment were great. Staff members were amazing. Food was fresh and elegantly prepared and served. Formal meals were not just for eating---but events to be experienced. There were 10 adults + 1child (4 yo) and we would split up to go to trivia challenges or tour backstage and do a Q&A with the dancers/singers or play a table game we found in the library and then all meet up for dinner or watched a comedian or magician together. So--there was plenty of togetherness with enough opportunities for down time to decompress. The people that made this cruise ship stand out are Alex (cruise director), Yessy and Ampolo (asst cruise directors), Juliet (hostess in Horizon and DaVinci restaurants) and Jose Luis (waiter in Curtis Stone's Share restaurant). They're all so freaking adorable that I wanted to take them home with me!! The excursions at the ports of call were fun and interesting but I could have stayed on the ship for the entire week and taken line dancing classes or played Family Feud or Who's The Cuckoo? and don't think I ever would have tired of it. My brother and sister-in-law were both finalists in VOICE of the Ocean and that was fun to cheer them on to the finale. Bring nice clothes to dress up a bit for dinner. It's not mandatory (except on formal nights) but it will make you feel special. It was hard to go home after having an entire fleet of crew members there to pamper and spoil us. This is the life!!! We choose Emerald Princess based solely on price at the time of purchase. We knew we wanted to go to Alaska. Because of the cheaper fare, I thought that we might have a budget cruise. That is not the case. We were treated with the utmost respect and felt we were treated exceptionally well just as cruisers who paid for the pricier suites. The ship was beautifully furnished. The service was over the top wonderful and the food extravagant. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly and without hassle. I heard from another couple at high tea that they've had nightmare embarkations and Princess handles the process the best. The interior cabin was sufficient and roomy for two people. The dining experiences felt like fine dining every night. I truly felt spoiled with the service. The buffet was extravagant and had tons of food options for all types and ages of cruisers. It was nice to talk to the servers about their home country and how long they have been on board. The ports were interesting and fun and the two shore excursions were worth every penny. Go on the railway excursion if you can. It doesn't disappoint. My first positive cruise makes me a fan and I would definitely cruise again. You feel spoiled, special and are treated so well by all the crew members. Read Less

This cruise was gifted to us and we went with family. It was our first ever cruise, so nothing to compare it to, but it was wonderful. We were on the Aloha deck starboard, with balconies. Our 4 staterooms were all side by side so we were able to open the dividers on the balconies. We discovered the Wheelhouse our first night and the amazing Irish duo, The Rolling Waves. We watched a few other shows, but kept coming back to them. Our bar stewardess Joanna was friendly and always had a smile. She knew what we wanted after the first night. The food was good. Breakfast at the buffet go a little tiring at the end, but it changed up at lunch and dinner. The best meal was at Shares. Our cabin wasn't huge, but it was spacious enough for the two of us. The balcony added that extra needed space. It was clean and our Stateroom steward Suraj was amazing. We did one expedition in Juneau, booked through the ship. That went smoothly with no issues booking or otherwise. Overall we had a wonderful experience and want to take our grown kids on a cruise one day. From what we learned on ship, this one is going to drydock next year to get a facelift. Read Less

Princess has the absolute best customer service, staff and crew. The cruise directors are engaging. It's always a fun experience. The food is incredible. The cabins are small, but well maintained. Elegance that has seemed to disappear from the other cruise lines. The passengers are truly appreciated on Princess. Absolultely love that we could have dinner at different times each night and meet different people. The afternoon tea was delightful. Had a blast with the photo staff taking portraits. Best value for the money to get the portrait package. Includes the thumb drive (in the shape of the ship) AND the prints. No other line does that, (at least none that we've traveled on.) The guest speakers and educators were fun. And their presentations were fun, not boring. Loved the puppies and the ax throwing. One of my favorite things about Princess is how the cruise directors get involved and join in the activities with you. And they go out of their way to make sure you are enjoying yourself. And it's nice to see how well trained the wait staff is. Always there to fill a water glass, clear your plates and bring you whatever you need. By far our absolute favorite cruise line. We've taken 10 cruises and 6 have been with Princess. Booked our next cruise with them already for May. Read Less

This was our first cruise ever and it was so fantastic that we are already looking forward to our next one! We even paid a future cruise deposit while on board. We were totally prepared for our embarkation to be a "hurry up and wait" type of operation with long lines and lots of people, but Princess has this down to an art and the whole process was rather quick and totally painless. Our cabin, R228, was not near as small as we had anticipated. I was particularly worried about the size of the shower as someone had pointed out to me how small they are as I'm not a small person but it had more room in it than the one in our camper so it was great. Our steward was terrific, she went out of her way to help us with some items and our appreciation was shown in an additional type we left for her. We had anytime dining and chose to use the Michelangelo dining room as it was MUCH easier to get to than the Botticelli dining room. Food was fantastic as well as the service. We ate breakfast in the Horizon Court Buffet and it was great every morning. We ate lunch in port when we had the opportunity - if not we just chose from the many options available on board and were never disappointed. For our anniversary we did eat in the Crown Grill specialty restaurant and it was just as great as the high end steak houses we have at in at home. Ports all had friendly folk and and was touristy as was expected but we still had a great time hanging out in them talking with people and actually enjoyed just sitting back and relaxing and not rushing around like some trying to get to their excursions. The ship was completely sold out, and yet it never felt crowded. Even after just boarding, had an excellent lunch in the dining room that was open instead of going to to Horizon Buffet. We had very good to excellent food in the “any time” dinning room —never waited in line by simply calling ahead for reservations for our group of four. Best surprise was the “Share” restaurant that has been beautifully built at the back (aft) of the ship—with an adjoining bar. Great views and atmosphere with food recipes created by Chief Curt Stone from Australia! Celebrated my birthday there an then enjoyed jazz at the bar. Our 12th cruise and we weren’t expecting much based on some of the reviews—but the ship is in great shape with usual good Princess service. Had good times at each port—especially the Shrine of St. Theresa in Juneau and the gardens and fireworks in Victoria. only suggestions are to upgrade TV offers in staterooms and improve food in Buffet—breakfast is good. We rented Cars in Juneau and Skagway and got to see more and economically with four people. Great cruise. Read Less

Chose Emerald Princess as it had room for our large family group to travel to Alaska at the time most were available. We have traveled with Princess several times before, even on the Emerald Princess, & have always been most satisfied. Arrived in Seattle 2 days early before embarking to enjoy the city, which our family did, including the Space Needle & the Market, while residing at Marriott's Springhill Suites, which was also very nice, including their restaurant. Two of our teenage granddaughters purchased gorgeous bouquets of flowers at extremely reasonable prices at Pike's Market & were able to enjoy them throughout the cruise. Attended Mass at the beautiful St. James Cathedral on Saturday evening & then were amazed by the speed & efficiency in the boarding process, which was extremely faster than in the past, even just a year ago. Our travel agent reserved our rooms next to each other, which were lovely, & our super steward opened the balcony doors between the cabins so we were able to enjoy the beautiful views together throughout the cruise. The food was exceptional, some of the best we have ever had on a cruise & our family was delighted. Special attention was given to our 3 year old grandson's meals as well as all the others in our party. Our tables were grouped together but ate with different members of our family each evening. Enjoyed several shows with very talented entertainers & the Alaskan puppies brought on board one afternoon were a big hit. All the service was great & we especially enjoyed walking around Ketchikan as well as a train trip at another port. The ports were colorful & very clean. We were also provided the option of having our bags sent directly to our home destination at the end of our cruise given your itinerary, which was very helpful. The 3 year old asked if he could go again, & there were different age group programs offered for children which he did partake in, but not quite ready to be on his own. Cannot say enough good things about our experiences as we were extremely well cared for and delighted. Read Less

We took our family of 11 to Alaska for a family vacation. We booked on the Emerald Princess. All interior cabins on the Aloha, 12th deck.. We (two of us) booked balcony cabins the last time we went and due to being in Alaska the temps were too low to spend any time on the balcony. So other than looking outside to see what the weather was like it was wasted money, for us. We spent most all of our time up on deck, and had a panoramic view from there. So decided since we were paying and didn't see a need for the balcony cabins we booked interiors. The interior cabins are within about 10 or so sq ft of Carnivals larger ships. Not huge but very sufficient. The shower did seem to be a little smaller than some of the other ships we have been on. It met our needs completely. We scheduled early dining for our group of 11 and had excellent service from our waiter and jr. waiter. Saravan and Floyd made sure we had all we needed and more. Great service. I know I have read reviews about the food on different cruise lines and I really don't know some of these people eat, but the worse food I have had on our 20+ cruises has been great. This cruise was no exception. I am a beef, pork and chicken eater and do not eat fish. I do like shrimp. Every evening I ordered the shrimp cocktail, a salad and either beef, pork or chicken of some type. They have an "everyday menu" that has some "standbys" is wanted. The desserts were all fantastic. We typically went to the theater shows after dinner and none, at least for us, were disappointments. Some were a bit better than others, but they all had parts that interested all of the ones from our group, that went. Our cabin steward, Louis, was excellent as well. Always made sure the cabin was maintained, was alwasy available to take care of any needs we might have. The other 4 cabins, all close to ours, though some with a different cabin attendant, said they liked their service as well. Kind of wish we could get service like that at home. But reality does come back when the plane touches down in your home town. The casino is nice, has a wide variety of slots, a good selection of table games. I don't play slots on ships, but the tables were fun and though I didn't win, I didn't loose a lot. We were able to go into Tracy Arm Fjord further than this ship has ever been and per the captain as far as any large ship has ever been. We went up to the Sawyer Glacier. We had two seniors (Grandparents), our 2 daughters, son in laws and 4 grandkids and 1 boyfriend. We, the Grandparents have been to Alaska before, about 10 years ago. We wanted to go with the kids and grand's, so we could all experience it together. We did not take any excursions in Juneau or Ketchikan. The towns have several excursions that are within walking distance if you want too, but we just walked around to see what we could, and stopped in a brewery or bar or souvenir shop.. Our kids took several ship excursions. Fishing, catamaran into the Fjord, zip lines, Seaplane excursion. They all had great reviews about everything they did. When we were in Skagway the last time we booked, privately, the White Pass railroad tour, in Skagway, and decided to take a similar tour, but wanted a little more flexibility. We called the same company Chilkoot Charters and they could not do what we wanted but gave us another tour operator, Midnight Sun Excursions. Great owner/operator and great excursion, for a great price. With having so many people it worked out very well. We went into the Yukon territory, up to Emerald Lake, a bit past Carcross. Beautiful scenery and we were lucky and able to see 2 black bears, one about 75 - 100 yards away and the other about 10 yards away. Saw a number of mountain sheep, a school of salmon in one of the streams. It is still a little early for salmon. The trip was really great and all we saw was fun and exciting. Read Less

My husband and I booked this cruise as we've always wanted to tour Alaska via a cruise ship someday. Additionally, we chose to share the experience with our son and his fiance--was SO much fun with them along! :) It really benefited us financially as we received some hefty military discounts (husband is retired military (Air Force), son is in the Marines, and his fiance is active duty Air Force and attends the Air Force Academy). Plus, Princess was having an awesome anniversary special of their own, so we received even more perks--mega onboard credits as well as a complimentary meal for all of us at a specialty restaurant. The cruise did not disappoint. It was AWESOME--no words! :) The staff, cabin, dining, entertainment, activities, service, ports, and shore excursions were equally awesome. We SO enjoyed the pristine, scenic Alaskan frontier! The Princess excursions were particularly insightful as well as worthwhile--we had enhanced peace of mind knowing that there was a guaranteed, timely return back to the ship following the excursions. :) The embarkation and disembarkation procedures both went without a hitch--they were VERY prompt, speedy, well organized, and efficient. We're looking forward to repeating the experience someday. As Princess promises, we came back new--and improved. :) Read Less

Chose this cruise to fulfill my Mom’s bucket list. At 90 years young we wanted to keep the trip as easy as possible. We stayed with Princess excursions because of their Best Price Guarantee! My experience has been you get what you pay for and we weren’t disappointed! This was our 13th Princess cruise and 26th with 5 different lines! I would like to see some slight changes however, such as bring back a happy hour for everyone at 3pm. More seating in the Piazza. Find chairs that take up less space for the smaller Piazzas on older ships. I gave an average rating on embarkation, not because of Princess but because of how Vancouver’s port process of all cruise lines share the same long lines through customs. Otherwise I’m happy with Princess! Booked for a transatlantic 14 night return to Fort Lauderdale on the Crown Princess in November with 4 nights in Rome prior to cruising! One more cruise after that and we will be Elite members when we will enjoy free laundry service and free mini bar set up as well as onboard discounts in shops. Already enjoy free WiFi and Platinum happy hour, as well as Platinum embarkation and disembarkation. What else can I say but we love All the Love Boats! You can too! Read Less

The entertainment choices in the Princess theatre were all very entertaining, and the lecture series were informative and timely for the Alaskan experience. Our cabin steward was efficient and made us feel special by his friendliness. All the staff we encountered were helpful and friendly, much better service than is the norm shore side. My only issue was the $250 Art department prize that I won that was not a prize!! The $270 bid on an artwork that was part of an edition was accepted, and this was listed as a CP category which includes shipping and frame. CP was explained to me before the auction and this was partly why I bid on the item which I did like and I would have been willing to bid a bit more, so $270 seemed like a very good deal. When I went to the Art Department to pay for the balance on my bid, I was told that my prize only covered about half of the package, and they told me I was responsible to pay for the shipping and the frame. I thought A PRIZE IS A PRIZE, so why was my $250 not good for the full $250 of the certificate. This is my cautionary experience to you. Read Less

Highly recommend this cruise. Fun ship with lots to do on sea days, amazing excursions (alpine ziplining is a MUST!), family friendly, and absolutely breathtaking views and locations. The staff was exceptionally friendly and always their when needed. They all tried to get to know our group and even remembered us and our certain food or drink requests. The scenery was so relaxing and absolutely breathtaking. Their were so many options for things to do once at port that we really felt like we got to experience each city/port and while at sea we were hardly bored as we had so many options like trivia (my favorite), movies, sports, and shows (magician, theater, and comedy) Everything went very smooth on the ship from entering to exiting and only took a about 10 minutes from walking in to on the boat and even faster getting off. They really have that down to a science! Read Less

We chose this cruise because we’ve always wanted to go to the South Pacific. It did not disappoint at all. We would definitely do this cruise again. We would like to try it on another ship. The Emerald Princess was in good shape. Most of the crew were very friendly and helpful. The food was just average. The worst thing about this cruise was how crowded it was when trying to go to anything. They did the shows sometime three times a night and you still had to go minimum an hour early to see one and still you might not get a seat. We could not get in to a few shows at all and had to watch one standing in the hall! It was unbelievable. Same thing at the Horizon Court on port days, lines down the hall to get in. They only opened one side and it’s a small area. “Share” the restaurant was underwhelming. The food was average and way too expensive. Even with the above complaints this was s cruise worth going on.
