Embarkation was very smooth and organized. We did not have much wait time. The ship was beautifully arranged. Easy to find our way around. The Itinerary was great. Many ports of call as well as two sea days observing the Glaciers. We had up close view of them We had anytime dining giving us the opportunity to meet variety of people. The showroom seemed to be a bit small for amount of people on board. The room filled up to to 1/2 hour to 45 mins before showtime. I think the timing was off to coordinate with dinner times. Shows were interesting, but could have used a bit more comedy. The wait staff in general was great. I did feel the staff in the buffet were very sluggish and 's appeared to be tired. Supervisors seemed to be after them a lot but I didn't really like to see them being reprimanded in front of passengers. The ports included several that had tendering to shore. It was organized very well. Wait times seemed relatively short. We arrived early to Buenos Aries and took a side trip to Igazau Falls. It was spectacular and by far the best part of our cruise. We chose this cruise because we had been wanting to cruise through South America and this ship offered us the best deal and visited all the places that we wanted to see. This was our first time on Princess. We arrived in Buenos Aires 2 days prior to our cruise. We stayed at the Novotel Hotel. It was very nice, centrally located, reasonably priced and the service was excellent. We had a buffet breakfast at the hotel which was very good and asked the concierge for recommendations for restaurants in the area. They also helped us book two tours - one was to a Tango Show and the other a city tour. We enjoyed both. Embarkation went ok. The port is an actual working port. You have to take a bus from where your taxi drops you off to get to the ship. They gave numbers as you arrived at the port to check in. It was better to having to stand in line. We had to wait for about 45 minutes and then everything went smoothly. The ship is very attractive, well maintained and easy to navigate. We had a balcony on the Baja deck. It was comfortable, had sufficient storage space, and a nice closet. We had been assigned anytime dining. We did it one night but every day you had to make reservations or wait in line. We asked to be changed to the MDR late dining and they gave us a table for two and two great waiters who took excellent care of us. The service in MDR was great but I have to say the food was mediocre. It tasted good but nothing to write home about. The desserts were excellent. We booked 4 tours through the ship and 4 on our own through the cruise critic roll call. Except our tour Ruta Valparaiso when we got off the ship all the tours were good. Ruta Valparaiso showed up about 2 hours late and we were not able to do the tour. Disembarkation was quick, well organized but the port is about two hours away from Santiago. Overall we enjoyed the cruise, the ports of call were beautiful and we were able to get off at all the ports. Would love to go back to Buenos Aires but not do this whole itenerary again. Read Less

I chose this cruise as a group of friends had booked and we thought it would be a great time seeing a part of the world for the first time. The itinerary was good but I thought the ship could have been better. Better entertainment, perks etc. On my previous cruises there were at least a few perks included (drinks, tips etc) but this time everything was extra - and quite expensive! Based on this experience I don't know if I would book again with Princess if I were given a choice. We enjoyed the specialty restaurants but it would have been great to have more choices. The dining room staff were superb and we were happy with the menu choices each night. Would have liked to have seen better caliber entertainment. The shows were not 'wow' compared to our cruise on Celebrity. overall the cruise was fine but not spectacular. Read Less

Having experience to cruise using several cruise companies I feel we can do fair comparison in various areas. I did sail on Emerald Princess two times. Boarding was very well organized right from the airport up to our cabin. Food was excellent the same as to variety and selection. No around 60 t0 70 % East Indian spiced food and 12 times poor copy of french onion soup and garbage wiener schnitzels as experienced on Norvegian Cruise ship. Special dining where I ordered ribeys steak medium to rare. I was served EXACTLY medium to rare steak which is remarkable. However by living in the Province of Alberta for 50 years I am use to eat "ALBERTA BEEF" which is well known in the world as of high quality grain fed and comparable to "kobe beef" so in my opinion beef quality was below the Alberta beef. Very well equipped exercise room. Excursions were very well organized and synchronized. Ship was clean and staff very friendly trying to make our stay pleasurable. Entertainment, activities and shows were as what can be expected. Nice variety - top notch. Disembarkation was also very well organized up to our "delivery: to the airport in Santiago. To summarize we did have very nice trip and we will use Princess for our future cruises Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary, we like taking cruises during Christmas and New Years. We have been on the Emerald before in 98 i had hoped it had been upgraded more than it has our Suite had one of the new Princess beds which was nice but the couch was worn out and very uncomfortable TV system needs to be upgraded to interactive and larger TV's in Suites. Bathroom i would do away with Tub put in bigger shower and double sinks. We had the new club class dining venue which was nice never any wait and great service unfortunately the food on this trip was a 5 out of 10 at best. Breakfast in the Crown Grill for Suite guests was the best meal the buffet was pretty bad, we only went a couple of times, overall this was not Princess at its best! We are Elite with Princess and will just try her again, but not on the Emerald unless they make major upgrades, Read Less

Interested in the ports of call. They were ok but, not ones I would definitely return to. However, we did stay a few days in Santiago and enjoyed it there. The entertainment was fine, different than on other Princess ships, were enjoyable. Food was good, I think on the salad bar in Horizon it needs to be better organized. Room Steward I had, Joseph, was great. I was disappointed with the Chanukah dinner they had. They should not have told us it was a dinner because all they had was potato latkes an donuts, we then had to go to dinner which this was at same time as our normal dinner seating. The person that did the service was good. I was pleased overall with the cruise. We had a problem with a tour however, Excursion Desk took care of that and refunded everyone some money because of the problem unknown to them. Read Less

This cruise ticked a few items on my bucket list giving me the opportunity to visit Macchu Pichu and Iguaza Falls. I've been on the Emerald Princess before and she's my favourite ship in the fleet. The cruise was part of a package with flights, transfers and hotel accommodation so everything was done for me. I was in an interior cabin on Deck 10 which didn't worry me as I love the absence of light creeping in through a window and preventing me from an extra couple of hours' sleep. I also love the walk-in wardrobe set-up outside the bathroom for a bit of privacy. Don't miss having a drink at Skywalkers on deck 18 to check out the water views from the rear of the ship. The food was exceptional, especially if you love steak like I do. I only ate in the restaurant (anytime dining) and avoid the buffet because of lines and looking for tables. There was two sectors; a lot of Americans left the ship at Santiago and were replaced by Spanish people to Buenos Aires. Princess did her best to accommodate both nationalities but obviously there were problems with two languages. Activities were split into two with different venues, one for the English speaking and one for Spanish. Announcements were made in both languages. While this was a little annoying, there was an advantage when dining in the restaurant - Spanish people eat very late so the dining room was practically empty for the early seating. Guest entertainers were a bit disappointing although the Princess dancers and singers were fabulous as always. I loved the cruise director and his staff. Service was great as always. I don't use Princess shore excursions they are very expensive, but booked a number of tours through the Cruise Critic roll call. Read Less
