An excellent cruise to enjoy. All facilities excellent. Staff excellent . This cruise is seriously tops. The staff were helpful and not over intrusive. It is difficult for staff to provide just the correct amount of friendliness without being invasive. The staff on board Emerald Dawn were excellent. They provided us with a wonderful experience. The organised programme was exciting, and very well planned and we were guided through the most interesting sights of all the cities and villages we were able access. Many of the activities required overseeing at a very high level and the Emerald Dawn staff and guides achieved this level unhesitatingly. The tour guides had extensive knowledge of their area and this was noticed by the passengers. Overall our time onboard the Emerald Dawn was amazing and we would seriously like the staff to be praised for the excellent presentation of the river trip onboard the Emerald Dawn Read Less

We where looking for a different idea for our holidays and went to a presentation for Emerald Waterways in Vancouver. We were impressed with the presentation and the all inclusive price no nickel and dimming you at very turn. So we took a brochure and a couple of weeks later booked the 8 day trip down the Rhine. We had an excellent trip, enjoyed all the off boat excursions. They were all very well organized with each days itinerary and map of the excursions. The guides where quiet knowledgeable and with the Quietvox system you could easily follow and hear your guide. Topping it off was the excellent food and service with lots of choices. I really liked the extra touch of the towels sculpture left at the end of the bed with the next day programme. We will be looking forward to another Emerald Waterways trip in 2020, somewhere ??? Had a great holiday and highly recommend Emerald Waterways. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we wanted to experience a river cruise. We were pleasantly surprised by Emerald's ease of embarkation. We were met at the airport and taken to our ship by motor coach. Upon arriving we were treated like royalty with drinks and a light lunch provided. We were then escorted to our rooms, which I must say were spotlessly clean and certainly large enough to accommodate all of our belongings. The staff could not have been more friendlier or helpful. The entertainment was wonderful. Everything from a Master Chef demonstration to Disco night! All the excursions were very well planned and we enjoyed each location and the tours. The food was beyond our expectations! Our wine glasses were never empty! Disembarkation was very well planned and we were taken to airport with plenty of time to spare. I would highly recommend Emerald as there service and care was beyond our expectations! Lovely crew on the Emerald Dawn! Read Less

We chose this cruise company which is marketed as Evergreen in Australia, because of Cruise Critic ratings and also word of mouth feedback from others who had sailed with Evergreen/Emerald. We spent eight nights on Emerald Dawn and then transferred to Emerald Sky for six nights because of low water levels in the Danube River. We only spent one day travelling by bus and we did not miss any scheduled stops. The transfer from one boat to another was very professionally organised, made into a smooth transfer for the passengers. Our cruise director, Michael, stayed with us for the whole cruise and that was very pleasing. Michael is very professional, helpful, informative and certainly impressed us with his ability to know the names of all passengers within a short period of time. Emerald Dawn is apparently one year newer than Emerald Sky and this was only evident in small ways where feedback from previous passengers must have been taken and used to make improvements such as extra storage in the bathroom, a small desk built into the cabin. Both boats were of a very high standard in overall presentation. We did not want to be paying for a cruise with unlimited alcohol available throughout the day because only one of us actually drinks alcohol. The wines supplied with lunch and dinner met our needs. We really enjoyed the fact that passengers came from several countries, eg, Australia, Canada, US, UK, NZ. Dining with passengers from various countries was one of the pleasures of the trip, we found our fellow passengers to be very friendly. Passengers ranged in age from very young adults to quite fit senior citizens. This cruise catered very well for passengers wanting more physically challenging activities such as hikes and bike riding through their Emerald Active Options. We enjoyed a guided bike ride about 20kms out into rural areas.(using bikes from the boat) when the boat was moored in Amsterdam. All the local guides were of a very high standard, all used spoke English very clearly and use of the Quiet Boxes (Whisperers) helped make guided walks very successful. Overall, very good value for money. Read Less

The vessel was very new with excellent facilities onboard. Having previously travelled with Scenic we actually preferred the less formal service provided by Evergreen (who are part of the Scenic corporate group). Overall food, ship facilities, & the service levels that staff consistently provided were excellent over the full duration of the cruise. Highly recommend this service provided via Evergreen Tours on Emerald Waterways vessel "Emerald Dawn". With return airfares in the total tour cost it is great value for your money. The shore tours were quite informative with tour guides ranging from dry and boring to witty and humorous to keep our attention. We had intended to cycle in 3 different ports as advertised by Evergreen, but were disappointed when we found only 16 bicycles available for 164 passengers. Any reasonable mathematician can quickly see their are going to be some very unhappy guests. After some colourful dialogue to the Cruise Director on behalf of the cyclists who registered but were unable to go cycling along the river paths, the Cruise Director then went the extra yard to hire extra cycles to prevent a social media backlash. In closing we thank the Cruise Director for eventually coming through. However "caveat emptor" let the buyer beware of what is being advertised for your cruise before you pay for it in full. Bon voyage !!! Read Less

We researched numerous cruise lines and trips by length of trip and price. We found the Emerald Waterways trips to be the best value for money. Since we were flying in from Western Canada, we decided to make the travel time worthwhile, and take one of the longer cruises (15 days) and added the extra extension to Prague. When we came out of the airport in Amsterdam an Emerald representative was waiting to take us to the ship. A crew member came to take charge of our suitcase. Signing in to register onto the ship went very smooth, we were then escorted to our cabin and shown around and what was where and how it all worked. We were told that refreshments were available in the lounge whenever we were ready after freshening up a bit. From there we thought we were in heaven. Service in the Lounge and Dining Room was superb. The food was first class and varied and I was afraid I'd gain weight in those two weeks. All meals provided a choice of wines and/or beer. We had been provided a personalized itinerary outlining what we had singed up for when we booked the tour, so there were no real surprises. Our tour director (Michael) was absolute tops. He was a pleasure to deal with and never too busy to provide answers to questions which might arise. All of the tour guides were local and knew the local history and provided that little extra information that cannot be gleaned from reading a guide book. Obviously some were better than others. The only criticism I can level is the fact that neither my wife nor I were aware how long the bus trip from Budapest to Prague would be (8 hours on the bus). That makes for a long day. One slightly negative item was that one excursion we had signed up for and prepaid was cancelled for lack of participants. We were advised this happens occasionally and a refund will be sent to us automatically. The other unfortunate event was the fact that the water in the Danube was too low for the Emerald Dawn to go all the way to Budapest and we had to be bused around the low water area to meet the sister ship to finish the trip. This is out of the control of Emerald and fortunately they had the other ship available to allow us to continue. This unfortunately required packing up our belongings and then unpacking on the Emerald Star. We found the service on the Star to be one step lower than on the Emerald Dawn, and this feeling was echoed by a number of other guests as well. We had heard about some other river cruise lines that did not have the extra ship available and their guests were given the choice of flying home or continuing the entire tour by bus. I would highly recommend this tour and would do it again, except for the Prague extension. I would however be interested in visiting Prague as a separate trip for two weeks or so - it is a fascinating city. Read Less

This is the first cruise we have undertaken and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The ship was absolutely spotless, the crew very very helpful with cruise director Alex there to help. The dining was an experience on it’s own, the food beautifully cooked and served by very competent waiters. The on shore excursions were well organised with very knowledgeable guides. The highlights for us was Strasbourg, The Black Forest museum and the cable car ride to the castle in Koblenz. We will most certainly book another river cruise, land in view the whole time! We flew from Newcastle but the return wasn’t as straightforward as we had to change planes in Paris C de G, a massive place. The only part of the holiday we didn’t enjoy. One abiding memory is the amount of cargo carrying vessels on the river and negotiating the large locks. Another was the size of the Lorelei statue, blink and you missed it! Read Less

Everything was wonderful except I would not go again on Emerald Dawn, or orther ships like her, because the ill-fitting sliding bathroom door was only 60 cm from the nearest pillow of the bed and the loo was only another 45cm further away.....so all forms of privacy are lost when you have to answer " the call of nature " to have less privacy than that which I have at home is totally unacceptable !! Also, the practice of the company to " give you a gift of 100euros each " to spend mainly on bar-drinks, is not as generous as it first seems. In the whole week, my wife and I only " usedup" 50 euros out of the " allowance " of 200 euros. so they "made " 150 euros out of us for nothing. It would be far more fair to " sign a tab " for whatever you bought and paid a bill at the end of the week, like you do in any case, for all perchases .....so beware, choose a company that doesn't pretend to give you something when It's your own money in the first place !! We were on the Splendours of Europe trip from Amsterdam to Budapest from April 28th until May 12th with a group of eighteen people from Canada. Many of our group were celebrating special birthdays and anniversaries and for many it was our first trip to central Europe. We all agreed that the cruise part of our trip was the highlight. The ship was nicely appointed, the food was good, the entertainment was enjoyable, the tours were well balanced with interesting historical information at a good pace but the crew were the BEST! I had inadvertently left my iPad in the Frankfurt airport prior to the cruise and would not have been able to arrange to get it back with the help of Michael, the cruise director. He went far above and beyond what would be expected to help me and in the nicest way. Thank you again Michael. I would be remiss if I didn’t also mention that the rest of the crew could not have been more pleasant and helpful. They all seemed very happy at their jobs and with each other. We would definitely choose Emerld Waterways for another river cruise. Read Less

First cruise experience (river or ocean), selected due to interesting places visited in one week. All of the staff were terrific - very helpful, giving the impression nothing would be too much trouble and all were very friendly and supportive. Cruise Director Michael was very organised and also very positive in all he did. Food and wine selections were generally excellent. It was a shame that the cinema/pool options were not fully functioning throughout; on a relatively small boat and if the weather does not let you out on deck, I realise it is difficult to have many options in the evening, but there really was no alternative to the bar/lounge and whatever entertainment was set out in the evening if we were sailing or away from a town when moored. The excursions were excellent ; the hike in the Black Forest was led by two super guides who were informative and supported the participants with shade and water breaks on a very hot day. The history- post-grad student Mark who took us around Koblenz was outstanding - probably the best guided tour we ever had for information, enthusiasm and answering questions from thr Group. In general, the balance of shore time between well-led tours and free time was excellent. Read Less

My sister and I decided to go with evergreen (emerald waterways) as it is the cheaper sister company of scenic. Very similar itineraries etc, however at a more affordable price. Our cabin was nothing unusual, only slightly smaller than the more expensive ones. Our window was only small, but we were only in our cabin to sleep n change, so didn't affect us, we could still look out to see what the weather was like! And that is all you really need! The staff were of the highest quality, professional, polite and experienced. The food was great and plenty of it. Each lunch and dinner on board we had a selection of beer and wine, not top notch, but definitely drinkable! We got the wine and beer package @ $EU 9.90 per day, which entitled you to unlimited house wine and beer during the day, which was worth it. We didn't use the full amount every day, but it worked out cheaper than buying the drinks on an ad-hoc Basis. Definitely recommend you have a couple of days pre and post cruise wherever you are, as the cruise only supplies a small tour of these cities. Be prepared for the locks on the Budapest to Amsterdam cruise, around 68 of them. The shore excursions were mostly great, they were included and occurred in all ports, with active, medium and slow walkers catered for. Please be truthful in your estimation of your physical fitness, don't put your hand up for active if you cannot walk at a fast pace and easily go up n down steps. Also be prepared for uneven cobblestones paths, uneven steps etc. the optional excursions were mostly well worth it. Totally recommend this cruise and this boat (I can't call them ships as they are not big enough for that). Well worth it. Do it! Read Less

We did the 8 day cruise from Amsterdam to Nuremberg. The inclusion of gratuities, tours, wine etc included in the very reasonable price, the positive reviews and the newness of the ship was our deciding point to take this cruise. We had free transportation from the airport to the ship and a personal welcome aboard from the cruise director. We explored Amsterdam on our own the day of arrival (9am) until our room was available (2pm). Our cabin was small but efficient. It was near the stern so we did hear some engine noise and occasional vibration going upstream although it didn't disturb our sleep too much. We were able to hang all our clothes and there were 2 large drawers for other items. Luggage was stowed under the bed. We had friendly efficient service from our cabin attendant. We had some laundry service with very quick turnaround. The bathroom was small but efficient. My only complaint was the extremely small bar of soap fell through the soap dish in the shower. Luckily I brought a larger bar from home in my luggage. I didn't care for the small bottles of shampoo/body soap, no sudsing, brought my own. The dining room was spacious, attractive and well laid out, lots of glass and shiny chrome. It was buffet dining for breakfast and lunch and sit-down open seating for dinner. Food was well prepared & tasty with good variety available although some of the same items were served at every meal. Dinner was 4 courses, appetizer, soup or salad, main entree and dessert, although you could certainly have less. Portions were plentiful for us although we tend to like smaller portions. I would have liked to have more salad selections for dinner and although we had some fish options, I would have liked some shellfish dishes. Different white and red wines were served each day at lunch and dinner and all were very good. Service at meals was excellent, the staff was professional & well trained and worked very hard to please the passengers. The main complaint we had was the very noisy dining room during lunch & particularly dinner. It really prevented having a decent conversation with our dining companions, even those sitting next to us! The noise level was quite irritating and they really need to do something about it. The lounge upstairs was much quieter and a light lunch was served there everyday and it was much more pleasant. Dinner always lasted about 2 hrs (7-9pm). We didn't participate in most of the entertainment/activities as we were generally tired after a day of tours. We did attend a violin concert (very loud) after dinner one night and a cooking demo one morning. We liked the cruise director's daily talk on the next days tour/activities. She was excellent and worked hard to make sure everyone had a good time and didn't get lost on the tours. I'm sure shepherding around 182 passengers is not an easy task. We docked at a different port everyday and had a tour at each port. We were bused from the ship to where the tour started with our tour guides. They were local, excellent guides, who were informative & well trained. Generally the enjoyable tours were about 90 min with free time afterwards. Although time was short in some ports, we felt we got a good overview of the town. Most ports were popular tourist spots so for us the limited time was fine. also the temps were quite warm and humid in Aug so we were happy to return to the air-conditioned ship. We found that Europe does not seem to have a lot of air conditioned buildings. The Rhine gorge was indeed the highlight of our trip, Castles & picturesque villages around every corner. Make sure to be on the sun deck if the weather is good for your best pics. Emerald gives an accurate description of the towns we visited. Unfortunately the sun deck was closed for the last 3 days of our cruise due to the low bridges on the Rhine/Main. We also went through some 68 locks which makes for a much slower pace of the ship. The scenery was beautiful lush green river banks, rolling hills & valleys and lots of vineyards especially in the Rudesheim area. Of course there are industrial areas that glide by as well as some of the most interesting bridges and buildings. All in all it was a delightful cruise for the most part. Would we go again? I'm not so sure. Although we met many really nice people, the noisy dining room after a few days was not enjoyable. Also the scenery seemed rather repetitive after awhile. We may stick to ocean cruising. Read Less

First time river cruise for us. Had seen the commercials on television and we had always wanted to enjoy one. Emerald Waterways offered us half off and a drink package so we chose a 14 day sailing up the Danube starting in Budapest. Random knowledge which might help you in your choice: Ship sails under 2,000 bridges and goes through 68 locks on its way from Budapest to Amsterdam. A lot of traffic is on these rivers and will dictate how your trip will be (and of course if it is high water or low water level). One town we stopped in was cut short by 1 1/2 hours because we couldn't get through some of the locks during our time period. The ship is about 2 years old. You don't need an adaptor for your iPhone. The ship is great everything worked well. Our room, on the third floor, had ample storage, was clean and bright. Small but you are rarely there. One elevator. By law you are not allowed on the top deck of the ship for 5 days in a row. The reason being is that the space between the ship and bridges can be measured in inches! The ship takes on water to lower its profile on some of these bridges and the Captain's wheelhouse would sink down. Shorts were worn at dinner time I noticed except for the two special events. Internet worked well except when we were in a dock or in the countries of Hungary or Slovakia. Sometimes video would take a while to buffer if a lot of people were on it but very good for email or texting. On our ship most of the passengers were Australians followed by Canadians then people from the UK and finally Americans. Service was exemplary, most of the staff was from Serbia. Food was good, sometimes very. I felt that they tried too hard to make it look good instead of taste good. They varied it with the country the ship was in. Ship had three levels for the rooms. We walked through them all before most had boarded. The first deck the windows were very small and you had to look up to see through them. The people in them complained that it felt like a dungeon. Second and third decks were fine. You will be amazed at the number of river ships sailing. Sometimes we would dock and there would be ten other ships docked there. And you will have to walk over them to get to the destinations as the ships dock against each other. Do some walking before you go. This trip entails walking miles over uneven terrain. Bring a pair of shoes with you, get used to climbing stairs. There is usually a slower group you can join if walking is a problem. The ships in the commercials show the ships docking right in town. This is a fallacy. Usually you are bused (not far) into where you are going. Depends on the Dock Master of the city and the time you arrive but we usually docked out of the city center. Bring something to read, have a internet device or a hobby. You spent a lot of time on the ship sailing between stops. You will usually stop in the morning, have a tour, some free time in the city and then back to the ship. Get to your starting city a few days early if you can. Heard a lot of stories from fellow passengers about delays, lost baggage, etc. More air flights are delayed in summer than any other time due to storms. Great water pressure, almost instant hot water all the time. They allow you to ride their bikes. You sign them out. We did eight miles one day. They offered a stop where you could ride between cities next to the Danube (26 miles). We passed as the bikes were not that good. Our ship started out with 169 passengers and at Nuremberg we lost 38 and picked up 10. The ship brought on local entertainers and we enjoyed them all: Dancers from Hungary, a German Oom-Pah band, a German glass blower, Austrian lady whose family business made wine and jam. Ports: Budapest: Our second favorite port. We flew in here and enjoyed our cooking class, city tour, time at the Széchenyi Medicinal Baths. The ship cruised down the river here at night while it was illuminated. Hungarians lined the many bridges and cheered at us while we passed underneath. Wonderful! Bratislava: Favorite stop. Wonderful little place. Ship stopped right in town. Lots of time here, very inexpensive. Vienna: Lovely time. A large town though and very busy. Did the walking tour and went to the Spanish Riding School and attended a concert at night (had to buy it--worth it). Durnstein: Lovely little town. We skipped the palace tour but others said it was lovely. Melk: must do of course for the Monastery. Jaw dropping. Linz: another fine little town. Passau: we skipped this one and took the optional tour to Czech Republic city of Cesky Krumlov which we thought was superior. Even though it was about an hour and a half bus ride from the ship we felt we had a lot of time here. Castle, shopping. Regensburg: Wasn't too excited after our trip here. The only thing was another church and the thousand year old place where they had been selling sausages. Nuremburg: another large city we could have skipped. Bombed and ruined over 95% during World War II. Hitler's favorite city and they took us to a few places where he had given speeches. Had time to shop here and lunch outside the ship. Bamberg: Bishop's residence we liked. A nice tour. Gardens. Wurzburg: A charming little town with rivers through traditional German buildings. Miltenberg, Rudesheim- two little cities. You will see churches, cobblestone lanes. Little time in either. Cologne: I felt that the only reason they stopped here was for the church. Another large busy city I wish they had skipped for another one. You can pay to walk up the 532 steps to the steeple top as many on our ship did but we passed. Heard it was cramped and hot and the view was anemic but did not do it personally. Amsterdam: Canal tour on boat, walking tour (or some did bus tour). Ample time here as you get here the night before so you have a full day. We went to Ann Frank's house tour and ate out. Also walked back through the red light district at night time. Transfer to airport was seamless and easy. Ship is small so if you do not get along with someone on the ship there is little room to avoid. Most get the drinking package and will try to get the most out of it. You can understand where that is going. Are we glad we went? Of course. Saw and experienced so much. Wished there had been enrichment classes on board. Small ship with one cruise director who went above and beyond as the ship was never certain to arrive when it was supposed to. Passed at least twenty-thirty castles and man interesting buildings. Bring binoculars. Enjoy! I hope this review has helped. Read Less

We choose this cruise if order to visit the Danube. Probably 7 or 9 days should be enough and the last part of the trip is not great enough as the 1st part. The german part is nice but some days you have not enough time to really look the towns and the onboard afternoon you have little to nothing to do. The top of the ship was banned to go during lot of days in the ⅓ of the trip and that is not good. The smoking area wasn't correctly placed and that should be better arranged respetos other but also the smokers. Food was good however eventually taste all the same and probably for the older people that was healthy but for the rest is tasteless. Breakfast can be better on the quality of food, like salmon or fruits... Also not always the wine was great, some days some Italians red that are not good enough to be onboard. Read Less

The accommodation in Prague was lovely and allowed us to walk and enjoy the city and the River areas of this gorgeous city. Second day started with the coach dropping us at Prague Castle, we enjoyed a morning exploring the Castle areas. Morning tea at the Lobkowicz Palace over looking the city below us. As we enjoyed our coffee and Cake. An outstanding meal at Prague Castle in the Salm Palace on our second night was delightful. The musicians were a joy. and the night view of Prague was stunning as the full moon rose above the city. The Emerald Dawn was beautiful look at, and once on board we could not fault anything. Our cabin on the higher deck was comfortable, spacious, and lots of hanging and drawer space for our clothes. Dining was a constant surprise of beautiful meals. Buffet breakfasts and lunches. Sit down formal dinners of four courses, plenty of wine and excellent service by the waiters at every meal. Activities and entertainment each night were always great fun. The pool area at the back of the ship was superb, especially if the day had been hot, a great way to cool off. All ports and excursions were thoroughly enjoyed. We could do this trip again. We chose Evergreen/Emerald because of the price, activities included, a new ship with a swimming pool and the choice to pay for extra excursions rather than them being included. Catering was outstanding. Tour guides were exceptional all with good English. Waiters were most professional and entertaining. The ports of call were very well chosen, and there was always free time after the guided walk/tour. Tour Director Patricia was absolutely outstanding, she must have worked 30 hours a day. Wine and beers were sourced from the area we were travelling through and were freely supplied during the meals. We were welcomed back on board with cold drinks after a hot walk ashore. This was our sixth river cruise (fifth European) and our third with Emerald Cruise Lines. A good balance of 'chill' time, included tours, time to spend on own when 'in port' and exercise. My favourite spot early in the morning is around the indoor affinity pool watching us travelling (usually up) the river - especially in the pool - watching the sunrises. Opportunity for guided cycle or independent bicycle rides too. Airport transfers were smooth, check in at a quality hotel in Bucharest smooth. A good briefing by Cruise Director on first evening in hotel with all guests at a dedicated dinner. An included tour of Bucharest on the first day with free time to explore yourself and an option of two tours on the second morning then taken for lunch with traditional entertainment before joining the ship in Georgiou. A highlight of the trip for me was a tour to Varna and the opportunity of paddling in the Black Sea. Other highlights: A guided cycle tour in Belgrade; a Sebian folkloric show on board; lunch with a couple in their own home in Croatia and hearing first hand how their house been badly damaged in the 'Homeland War' with Serbia and how they were able to rebuild it; a tour to visit Magayar horseman demonstrating their skills at a 'horse farm' in Hungary and sailing through Budapest at night before returning to the ships berth. ....and of course the day in which we sailed through the Iron Gates Gorge. We are starting to look at our next river cruise options - and if Emerald have a ship on that river they will probably be first choice to look at...especially if they have one of their 'Sun' class ships with pool on it. To complete the full length of the river Danube. Have travelled by Viking in 2016 from Germany to Budapest and had a wonderful time. So thought that it would make sense to complete the Danube by going fro Bucharest to Budapest. Also to change from Viking to Emerald just to experience a different cruise experience. As we have previously on used Viking.. Am pleased to say that we were not disappointed. Would certainly consider Emerald in the future as the company were very well organised. The ship was a dream and my Wife was particularly struck with the Cinema where the four of us spent a pleasant Evening watching Jack Reacher who is my favourite read. Also she was particularly surprised to find out how enjoyable the pool was. Will certainly recommend Emerald to friends and will consider booking with the line in the near future. Perhaps for the French Waterways . Read Less

I chose this trip because I am interested in Eastern Europe and it certainly lived up to and beyond expectations. The excursions were long enough and I must admit I wish I could have spent more time in some places as there was so much to see. The local guides were excellent with vast knowledge ,only to happy to answer questions. The cruse was well organised and our cruise director Simona was excellent nothing was too much trouble. The ship was comfortable, never looked overcrowded and I liked the free seating at meal times,so that you could sit with friends.the evening entertainment was fun ,not too long. The sun decks were well stocked with comfortable seating Service on board was excellent all the staff were professional and attentive.Dining was good with plenty of choice. Cabins were spacious with lots of storage and very comfortable, even providing a fly screen if you wanted the window open. Read Less

We chose this for its destinations, as it was along the lower reaches of the Danube, which we didn't know. Embarkation was very smooth, though it was a pity there wasn't more time in Budapest. The cruise was full of interesting trips, including visits to a school in Bulgaria, and a lunch with a local family in Croatia. All of the local guides were experienced, very knowledgeable, and spoke good English. The Cruise Director also gave us interesting daily talks on the countries we were visiting. On two evenings we had excellent local dancers/singers on board. Everybody I spoke to enjoyed the cruise very much; the ship is lovely, with good size cabins and lounge, and the food reflected the countries we were visiting. The service was excellent, and the staff (mainly East European) friendly, relaxed and efficient. There is an attractive indoor swimming pool, and a minute fitness room. WE did feel that during the one day with no port stop there could have been more activities arranged, especially as it rained solidly all day.We finished with 3 nights in the Sheraton in Bucharest, which is a stunning city. We mainly found our own meals in Bucharest, but we did feel that more could have been made of the final night's dinner, which was uninspiring and a big contrast to the excellent on-board meals. We certainly plan to travel again with this company, and would recommend this particular cruise as something a bit different. Read Less

Chose this cruise as a safe and interesting way to holiday with my elderly mother in a previously unvisited part of europe. The whole experience was great from beginning to end with very few decisions to be made except what to chose from the excellent menu choices in the restaurants or whether to go off indepent of the well guided excursions . All the staff (mostly Romanian and Indonesian) were absolutely charming, friendly and efficient. We particularly salute Ray Bauer, the Director, who was brilliant in every way, charming, informative, so helpful and reassuring especially about the capabilities of my mother. We cannot praise him enough. We met some lovely people from Ireland ,US, Canada and Hong Kong, found the Rhine a fascinating area with all its history and geography. The trip is not recommended for people who are physically disabled as the excursions need you to be able to walk a sufficient distance ( slower groups were however organised). The clever individual audio guides were great as were all our guided on each trip. If you don't like being part of a large group being herded about, it's certainly possible to do your own thing at each port . The addition of good bikes were great as the river has many easy cycle paths. only disappointment was the emptying of the pool half way up river due to worrying river levels and boat clearance. Impressive arrangement at rear of boat which is a very pleasant cinema at night. No tacky. evening entertainment , great piano playing though in bar! Read Less

This was our first river cruise and it would be difficult to find fault with anything. We started with 2 nights in Prague, which was in a very comfortable hotel with an excellent tour guide. Transfer to Nuremberg was by the most luxurious coach we have ever been on, and was completely hassle free. A great way to set up the rest of the trip! The ship was stunning, cabins were very clean and comfortable, the food was superb and plentiful! All the crew were extremely helpful and went out of their way to make the trip as much fun as they could. The drinks package at 20 euros a night was an absolute bargain and worth every penny. We did not need to take the extra excursions as the inclusive trips were well thought out and planned, with local tour guides who were very knowledgeable and took just the right pace for all members of the trip. We would not hesitate to return (when funds allow!!) Read Less

This cruise was made available to Seniors in Australia. The ship, Emerald Dawn was a very new ship. It was lavishly appointed in everything modern. The cabin's balcony was good as all that had to be done was to lower the top of the outer window and the balcony was there. The crew could not do enough for us and were always on hand to welcome you and help out if something needed attention. The itinerary Bucharest to Nuremberg was one of the most interesting and fascinating itineraries I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Port excursions were very well organised and interesting. Entertainment on board was good as were the visits to resident's homes in certain ports. It was wonderful to talk about our way of life and hear about their way of life, customs etc. Different foods and wines served by these people showed just how different our tastes are. On board food, wines and beers were of a very high standard. Waiting staff wasted little time in remembering your wine and beer choices. I would certainly recommend Evergreen River Cruises to anybody contemplating a River Cruise. Read Less
