Waited a long time for this cruise, got family and friends to join us and all reported a great cruise. Only one thing is the walking...that is for asthmatic passengers it a little grind. Cruise and ship personnel were the best could not of been more pleasant to deal with. All that they say is included is and then some more. I would say that this cruise line is as good as if not better that all the rest. The rooms are serviced twice a day. There is plenty of food 3 times a day. More storage than what it looks like, but when you find all the hiding spaces you can but all your clothes and luggage away. The ports are great. But watching this captain but this ship ina lock with only 18 inches to spare...9 on each side. We will travel with Emerald Waterways soon, maybe Amsterdam or another location. Read Less

Had high expectations for Danube cruise. Paid nearly £5000 for two for 1 week. Turned out to be very poor value for money. Not very much to say that is positive apart from visiting the beautiful cities of Budapest and Vienna. Food was not very good, not a lot of choice and found the staff did not always replenish quickly. Drinks were included with lunch and dinner but only one choice of red, white so if you didn’t like what was on offer you had to pay for an alternative. Not much on offer entertainment wise apart from Anton and Erin being on board for one night which was excellent. You sometimes had to ask to get another drink as not enough staff. Most of the staff were very nice although a few were rude. If we ever do another river cruise it definitely will not be on an emerald boat. Read Less

This cruise was made available to Seniors in Australia. The ship, Emerald Dawn was a very new ship. It was lavishly appointed in everything modern. The cabin's balcony was good as all that had to be done was to lower the top of the outer window and the balcony was there. The crew could not do enough for us and were always on hand to welcome you and help out if something needed attention. The itinerary Bucharest to Nuremberg was one of the most interesting and fascinating itineraries I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Port excursions were very well organised and interesting. Entertainment on board was good as were the visits to resident's homes in certain ports. It was wonderful to talk about our way of life and hear about their way of life, customs etc. Different foods and wines served by these people showed just how different our tastes are. On board food, wines and beers were of a very high standard. Waiting staff wasted little time in remembering your wine and beer choices. I would certainly recommend Evergreen River Cruises to anybody contemplating a River Cruise. Read Less

I like to just relax on holiday, so for that reason i like cruises. Unpack once, and meals and activities all become someone else's problem. We couldn't handle another open ocean cruise. No matter how big the ship is, there seems to always be a rolling motion. I don't normally get seasick, but when the person your are with does, it becomes contagious. So this time it was a river cruise. From start to finish, I have never traveled so smoothly. We chose the Paris before add on,and the Prague after. Honestly, book this independently. It was not worth the money Evergreen charged. I booked all my own tours in Paris over the internet and I was very happy with them. ( 2h segway tour of Versailles gardens, 3h segway tour through the center of Paris, 2h group of 6 with own guide through The Louvre) Evergreen chose to cancel the pre-booked Versailles Palace tour the day before it was due to happen. Due to the late notice, my options were reduced to walking up to the entrance through the queue and walking through the palace with a headset. Had I been given a reasonable notice, I could have had the opportunity to organise a private tour. Very unimpressed. Be aware that Evergreen reserves the right to cancel anything, anytime, and does so often. The good, Except by looking out the window, you don't even know if you are moving. Rooms were small but otherwise excellent. Bathrooms were a marvel of space conservation. Public areas were more than adequate. The bad, -The chairs in the cabin are too low. I am 6 foot, and when sitting in the chair at the railing, it is right in the middle of my view. I always found myself sitting high in the chair, or sitting on a pillow. If the chairs were 200mm higher, it would be a vastly improved experience. -The food was adequate but never rose above that. Think RSL fare. Do not expect to be wowed by the offerings. As I said, adequate. -Coffee..........what can I say. The machines were good. The beans were good, But what idiot thought UHT milk was suitable for a boat load of coffee drinking Australians. When the crew were questioned on this ludicrous preposition, I was told twice, that there was no room for the cows on board. Condescending. The boat stopped at a town every day. How hard is it to load fresh milk for coffee? -Tours..........every day we stopped in a quaint old town center. The tours marched off to show us exactly the same things day after day. Why not organise the tour guides to give slightly different talks, which the guests can then choose from? History, architecture. food, scenery, customs, gardens. One example, every day we passes countless vineyards, never a winery tour. - I am 49, I was the youngest guest on board. The average age is about 65 - 70. Expect canes, walkers, wheelchairs. The fastest pace the trip ever achieves is a slow walk. Think about organising your own side tours. The ugly - no ugly, just a bit average, which could be improved quite easily Would I do it again. Yes, but with the experience I have gained, very differently. Much more of my own itinerary. I would smuggle some fresh milk on board. Read Less

We chose the river trip firstly because it gave us an opportunity of seeing parts of Europe that we had not been to before without packing and unpacking. We arrived at Budapest and were met by representatives of Evergreen tours. The drive into the city to embark on the ship was not impressive, old drab stalinistic buildings. This disappeared the following morning when we toured the city proper. It is beautiful filled with old world charm. We continued up the river. The Danube and later the Rhine Rivers were flowing near the top of their banks., this was an initial worry but thanks to our Captain we were able to get past the low bridges. Later ships were not so lucky and traffic was halted out of Budapest for some days. We were impressed by the food and the crew and in particular Cheryl our cruise director. Cheryl was a dynamo organising the daily excursions, briefings every evening before dinner as to the events for the following days. The small towns we visited were all unique in their own way.We walked a lot which raised our fitness levels. Having travelled over night we did not know that we were going through one of the 84 locks on the rivers. The brochures do not mention the locks. During the day this can be a pain waiting for your turn at the busy locks. We were amazed at the 'commercial' ie:transport that uses the rivers. We went on excursions that lasted about 3 hours amd which enabled us to be back at the ship for lunch. We then took the opportunity to rest. I would suggest that persons thinking over going on such a cruise take reading material. due to the high river levels and the subsequent low bridge clearances the sundeck was closed for the majority of the trip ruling out the availability of walking track on board. On board entertainment was sparse. There was a resident pianist who tried to sing, an 'opahah opapah' band one night, with the best being a revue by the crew. The embarkation disembarkation were carried out in a professional manner. Would I go again? probably not 15 days was too long, and flying business class makes it an expensive and long trip from Australia. Read Less

The route was our primary concern. We had heard a rumor that Emerald was a well run enterprise. Price was important. Would a new boy on the river be likely to be trying harder? So it turned out. Everything on this river cruise was of top quality. The staff worked hard day and night keeping it clean All those panoramic picture windows. some may find the overall decor of the boat is streamlined in the modern sense and even stark. Those who will miss French provincial decorating and other such "frou-frou" might be better looking to another boat. All the staff were of top quality and very well trained. Without exception they were warm and friendly. Much of this because sympathetic and through training by their excellent section managers. The menu chosen for the mix of nationalities aboard on that particular cruise. Local specialties of the country through which we were passing were available in abundance as well as min line food. The staff who did the cooking were of a Swiss based outsourced company and exceptional. The superb dining room staff supported them exceedingly well. An exceptional "Cruise Director" was not only helpful when asked but all the time. In common with all the staff he went out of his way to discover people's needs and preferences. Shore excursion groups were much smaller that those of other boats on the river and all had exceptionally well prepared guides. No doubt at all we would use Emerald again. The staff were very attentive to the needs of the aged, deaf and of limited mobility . But bear in mind no river boat can have the space or facilities of an ocean cruise ship. The disabled especially might like to look closely at both the boat's facilities and help available before signing on. River are often narrow and the boats often have to be moored parallel in pairs. So the only way to get to the boat away from the bank is to climb the steep steps on the outside of the boat(s) nearer to the bank, over its top and down steep stairs again. Not easy with bad joints or other medical problems. Read Less
