One of the last of Fathom's Impact Travel Cruises

Review for Fathom Adonia to Caribbean - Eastern

OVERVIEW: When we heard that Carnival-owned Fathom Cruise Line was closing out its Impact Travel cruises on the Adonia, we made a very quick decision to book one of their hybrid cruises visiting both Cuba and the Dominican Republic before the opportunity disappeared. The impact activities are intended to help local people by working alongside them. This, of course, is very different from the ...

Great Traveling Adventure

I chose this cruise for its itinerary and because they're giving the balcony cabins at a big discounted rate. The cruise is more for those interested in making a difference to the communities of Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. There are many excursions free of cost to the traveler to chose from and there are shore excursions available for a price. The Adonia is a small ship thats ...

Fathom Adonia to the Dominican Republic is not for everybody, but perfect for us

My review is based on the sailing to the Dominican Republic on December 4-11, 2016. This is the cruise for people who want to help others while still enjoying a classy cruise. If your sole reason for taking a cruise is to relax while the crew waits on you, stop reading now because you probably won't like this one. And if you are a missioner who sleeps at night on a broken-down cot and who ...

Excellent Social Impact cruise on a classy small ship!

We had a very enjoyable and worthwhile cruise to the DR on the Adonia. We were attracted to the cruise because of the impact activities and of course, the unbelievable price. First off the ship: Very classy small cruise ship most recently from P&O. Public spaces were quite nice with lots of wood and excellent furnishings. Excellent library a bit like you would find on Cunard, again probably ...

7 Day Fathom Adonia Cruise to Dominican Republic Sep 25th 2016

Let me start off with that I thought the cruise was good overall. This was my 14th cruise but my 1st with Fathom. I’m in my mid-forties and sailed with my travel agent and another couple. Cruise Concept: The concept of Impact travel is great. However, Fathom needs to expand its marketing. They need to market more towards collages, churches, etc to assist in filling the ship with impact ...

Best Cruise Ever!!

We chose this cruise because it is the only ship currently sails to Cuba. When checking on the info, we got an incredible deal to go to Dominican Republic for 7 nights. Figured we would try it before going to Cuba which costs 10 times as much. We are so glad we did....this ship was incredible. Have been on at least 20 plus cruises on 5 different cruise lines. This ship is in the British tradition. ...

A New Type of Cruise Experience

We decided to take this cruise on Fathom's Adonia mainly because it was heavily discounted, and it was on a "R" ship, a class of ship that we have cruised extensively on with several other cruise lines, namely Oceania, and Azamara. Accommodations were very comfortable in our Scooter-accessible Balcony cabin. Very spacious, and with a new mattress making it very comfortable. Being an older ...

Be pampered and help care for others on the same trip

I was looking for a chance to take a cruise where I could bring my family and be able to relax on board while experiencing some of the country and the people off board. The review that was posted was so accurate about the beauty of the small British ship Adonia and the young professional staff of guides, as they were kind, fun, informative, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable about the benefits of ...

Fathom could be so much better...

Review for Fathom Adonia to Caribbean - Eastern

Fathom has the opportunity to be an upscale cruise line offering an 'impact experience', but cost cutting and a rudderless management team let the whole operation down. The food is one area where they could easily improve, but the Adonia seems to have a recalcitrant head chef not particularly open to change. Some meals are excellent, but the menu is a cacophony of dishes that do not pair ...

A Different Sort of Cruise

Review for Fathom Adonia to Caribbean - Eastern

Just finished up a great cruise to the Dominican with Fathom. It was a very different ship, a very different atmosphere, and a very different demographic on board. And we liked it a lot. What originally got our attention was the seemingly great value, but we were intrigued by the "social impact" idea, as well. The ship itself is smaller and boxier than any of the newer mega ships, but the ...
