It was a launch of the musica and msc invited us. The embarkation process was very long and tedious. So to be honest that was the down fall as we had to wait for hours on hours before we could be onboard. which meant we missed some time and were tired when boarding. However when we were on board it was quicker and the buffet lunch was ready however that also was limited the menu on offer was not that great. I have been on a cruise before that i paid for on the sinfonia and the menu was great we were spoilt for choice so i don't know what to tell my clients if that was because we were not fully paying customers or what. The dinner menu was great also the service was limited. But the entertainment was great over all the theme of the ship is music and that is true. Read Less

The main reason for our cruise was to explore the new ship, as we traveled on the SINFONIA several times, including Two South and Two North Bound Cruises. After this local cruise we still prefer the Grand Voyages of 24 days, to or from Italy, As this was the first cruise of 2018/2019 season in South Africa we were very disappointed in some areas. The ship itself is much bigger and more spacious than the SINFONIA with a 5 star rating. Although we felt with the size of the ship and the capacity of passengers that the cruise was Overcrowded, especially during meal times, breakfast, lunch and dinner in the open buffet area. There were always long ques waiting to get to the food stations. This caused that people try to jump the ques and try to squeeze in, and that caused unhappiness among most of the passengers!!!!!!. Therefore the rating on the dining was 3, although the food was a 4 rating. Shore Excursions: Cant t say much as the excursions to the Portuguese Islands were cancelled due to strikes on the island. We were on Musical 4 day cruise to Mozambique (Portuguese Island & Pomene) from Durban (26-30 November 2018). What an "exhilarating experience" worth sharing. The level of professional service displayed by staff members (courtesy, respect, helpfulness, welcoming attitude...) is commendable. Food was mouth watering and in abandon efforts. Cabin were clean and kept in mint condition. With limited facilities on board (jacuzzi), It is worth mentioning that a need exist to exercise control over the use of facilities for the benefits of all. We observed some of the guest monopolizing the jacuzzi by spending hours (almost the whole day) to the excision of others. As a suggestion, usage of jacuzzi to be limited to an hour to enable others to enjoy the facility. A need exist to frequently service men's restroom in the entertainment area (Deck 13) as high volume usage compromise cleanliness standards Staff to manage dinning queues at Deck 13 restaurants especially during buffet times. In the interest of all guests MSC checking in and security procedures is necessary and embraced. Thanks to the Captain and crew for professional handling of the craft during rough sea. We felt safe as ever. I've already have people in mind to invite to the next cruise. Joe-Man-Joe Read Less

The cruise was booked cause my mom always wanted to do it so for her 50th birthday present we did the cruise. First it was not organized you stand in a 2.5 hour que just to get into the ship, crew members are rude and had no respect for the passengers especially the first day when you lost. The food is amazing. Shops were also way over priced. They take photos all the time but way over priced to actually but the photos especially if you would like multiple photos.... Cabins are also exteamely small can hardly move in them. Entertainment crew outside were really good and interactive. Theaters were also very good. The fitness center was extremely nice had everything you needed for the time that you were there. Snorkeling in Pomene was a waste they send you to an edge that the water is all green and cant see anything. Overall would not recommend the cruise though thought it was very over rated Read Less

Our four day cruise with msc musica. One of the main reasons we have chosen this cruise is due to the postive reviews from people who have previously been on the MSC. The Food was delicious, the restaurants were exquisite. The staff were friendly and accommodating and we always had good service. They were always there to help. The entertainment was BRILLIANT. Tucano lounge and the Pool Deck were the places to be.There was never a dull moment on our cruise. Everything moment was filled with smiles, cheers and laughter. When it came to shopping there was a variety to shop -Clothing, perfumes, suvoniors, chocolates and so much more ... Our cabins were always in good condition. One of the highlights of the trip was going to pomene getting onto the boats then experiencing the amazing sight of looking back at the MSC musica as we disembark to the island. Our experience on Msc Musica overall was accommodating, entertaining and one of the best experiences I've had. Read Less

Our embarkation was great as we paid for the 'priority board' option. This made it a smooth entry and the staff were extremely helpful in getting the people flowing through customs. The ship is beautiful and cabins are very comfortable. The space provided is worth it and sea view, even if just small balcony, is still spectacular to experience. I must compliment our waiter that served us during dinner - Selvin (table 610). He was very friendly and informative from the start. Even when we saw him during the day at the pool restaurant, he still greeted with a friendly smile and remembered us. In the evenings, he remembered our drinks orders and was very polite. He joked with us and really made us feel welcome (even though we are just another table for him)... we enjoyed it thoroughly. The entertainment was good and we thoroughly enjoyed the Tucana Lounge musicians. Music played was for all ages and the entertainers were social and interactive with audience. Read Less

Was an interesting experience but according to friends reviews we expected much more and were very disappointed. The only highlight were the pomene island stop that was great! Everything quite expensive and meals on deck 13 for lunch and dinner every single day the same hotdogs, chips and burgers. Don't know whether we will ever do a cruise again!! Not good value for money and not much entertainment for kids and adults on msc musica. Breakfasts were good, but on deck 5/6 mostly the same deck 13 were good but too many people not enough place to be seated. Some waiters were rude, they would rudely answer you I am still busy cleaning or you are late end let you wait for 40 minutes or will take 40 minutes to bring you ice and water. Read Less

On Monday the 10 December 2018 we went on our Cruise from Durban to the Portugues Islands and Pomene and back to Durban. The embarkation process seemed to take forever because of the long queues for the Customs Control. On the ship we were directed to the 13 Floor for a buffet Style Lunch. More queues however the table next to the window and the tasty food made up for it. We were allocated to the Belle Epoche Restaurant and our Waiter was Sukadana from Indonesia, a very friendly Waiter who did his best under the pressure he found himself. The food served in this Restaurant gave you the impression that this kitchen was there to serve the Masses. The food on the plate was no feast for the eye and gave the impression that the Chefs in the kitchen didn't care how the food was platet and served to the guests. No sauces were served with the meat dishes. The Spaghetti Bolognaise that we chose the Wednesday evening looked as if it was the last bit left in the pot and warmed up in a Microwave. The dining experience in this Restaurant as a whole was not a good experience. The day we arrived at the Portugese Islands the weather was not safe for going ashore so we cruised onto Pomene where we went ashore and had a maical time strolling along the beach and enjoying the sun. Entertainment on the Ship was excellent, especially the shows in the theatre. The relaxing atmosphere and different styles of music was also very good. Sitting in these lounges you forget you are on a Cruise Ship. The overall service and friendly staff makes it a cruise to remember and something I will do again. Read Less

In the beginning of 2018 we thought it will nice to go on a family cruise. We told the kids and they have been excited since. The thought of being in a big ship like the MSC Musica and being on the ocean was just exciting. Our experience was generally great. Embarkation was a bit overwhelming in the beginning with thousands of people queued up for what seemed like eternity. A big THANK YOU to DEON du TOIT who saw us with a wheelchair. He took us through immigration control, registration and showed us around the ship. He was OUR HERO. He was PATIENT, CARING and made us comfortable. Without HIM, we would have been frustrated and probably overwhelmed by what we would have experiences. So a BIG THANK you indeed to Deon du TOIT. :) MSC, please reward him. The MSC MUSICA staff were very helpful. We, with a disabled child, were looked after very well, given priority pass and places reserved for us, although we always found people who did not need such places already occupying them. We enjoyed the food, there were enough variety and always available. Without proper check, one would eat a lot more than they need. There was sufficient entertainment. Albeit too short in some instances, the stage plays for example. Just as we sit to enjoy the Disney Characters they were finished. Although we had all the help we could get from all the staff members, the excursion at Pomone was just not comfortable. So, I felt traumatised by the experience... Would I go again? Maybe, but not anytime soon. Read Less

We flew to Durban the day of embarkation. The embarkation as well as the disembarkation was handled professionally and went smoothly ! The ship is stunning inside and out and when you first walk into your cabin , you immediately get a feeling of relaxation and stress relieved. The waiters/waitresses are really friendly and lovely people from what I’ve witnessed. Then entertainment is just fun and different! You can see they put so much effort and just want us passengers to enjoy our time with them and keep things interesting, one thing you need to do is go to the theaters every night you there . The receptionists are polite and are willing to take on any problems you’re experiencing on your cruise with them , they try their very best to keep you satisfied. And when you get to the islands and you take part in the excursions , which I hope you do !! You need to take a camera , they take you to the most beautiful parts of the island and you just feel happy to be in touch with nature around you! MSC musica catered for children all the way up to the elder people , everybody will enjoy their time with MSC I definitely find that the MSC Cruise lines are the most convenient and amazing holidays to be on and I will definitely plan my holidays with MSC time after time again because of the experience I’ve had with them. If you want to escape reality and be in paradise, MSC Cruises are for you. My friend and I wanted to go on this cruise to celebrate school ending as we are both done with high school. And we received so much more than that! We both live in Cape Town so we flew to Durban and then we went on the cruise. Embarkation and Disembarkation went smoothly, we drove with one of the buses to the harbour and airport and it went smoothly as well. The staff on the boat immediately greeted everyone with big smiles when we got on the ship which made me feel at home. The cabin was perfect, not too big and not too small. It was also near the lifts going to deck 13 so we immediately knew where to go and never got lost. The food was amazing, we were guided to the Buffet on arrival and we ate. The waiters during supper were amazing. I am from table 525 at L' Oleandro restaurant, and would like to thank my waiters for their amazing service. There is however one waiter from Honduras (I don't know his name) who did not know the line between kind and inappropriate. Despite this, I still enjoyed my cruise to the fullest, the entertainment crew was fantastic! The host of the shows, Stephen, was amazing to listen to and every show by the MSC Cruise was brilliant to watch. The activities and games the entertainment crew planned during the day and night, was amazing. I participated in many of them and loved it very much. The excursions were brilliant and Pomene was beautiful. I did the quad biking on Pomene and I would do it again if I had the chance. Every time I had a query no matter how small, the reception personnel always helped me with a smile. I would love to go again with my family. You exceeded my expectations and I am grateful. The dinner service was special as well and had a great time with the themed evenings. The entertainment tam did very well indeed to keep the cruise light and fun. The behind the scenes tour was amazing and well worth an excursion appointment. The kids under 18 travel and sail for free was an extremely good put together package. The embarkation on fast track was great. Disembarkation took very long getting through the port authorities however the assistance on board was great. The simplified cruise drinks package was also a great value for money proposition but the voucher booklets do tend to be misplaced or go missing making it a bit troublesome to keep track. Embarkation and disembarkation are always tedious. if there could be a way of speeding it up. The buffet was good with a wide variety of food. the bars were overwhelmed at times and it took long to get drinks. The ship is beautiful and looks like a hotel. You don't even feel like you are travelling on water. Facilities are exquisite and a lot of different personalities are catered for. The on-board entertainment was good from day 1, however entertainment on the last day was rather short lived. The cruise is advertised as a five day cruise whilst disembarkation is very early on the fifth day and you don't even spend a morning there. We requested for changes to the dinner sittings and separation of the beds online way before the cruise and these were not effected. we ended up being moved to another restaurant away from our family and friends in order to get the first sitting. when we requested for separation of beds for our boys all we got was separation of blankets!!! it seems like changes made on the website do not matter and thus it becomes a waste of time. The children did enjoy the teen club and made friends during the cruise. However, for parents travelling with children make it automatic that the children's cards are blocked for transacting unless authorization is given by parents instead of the current scenario where cards are open until blocked. We found ourselves with a bill of US$290 for video games and movies that we did not authorize only to learn that the kids cards can be blocked after the bill. This is probably a way for MSC to make money but it really puts clients in financial problems. I read as much as I could from the website prior to the cruise but somehow missed the bit about blocking kids cards, if that could be emphasized to parents unless MSC thrives on it which is kind of doing business in bad faith. Pomene Island is beautiful but sadly there was no beach party like we experienced on the Portuguese island in 2015. i would go again on the cruise but on a different route. Now looking at doing Mauritius funds permitting. Read Less

We have been cruising with msc for many years, actually since 2009. This specific cruise was the first of three back-to-back cruises, as we only disenbarked on the 19th of december 2018. This cruise was the most exhausting experience ever. Embarkation took 3 hours 45 minutes. Once we passed customs, the ship served warm juices on the side, what a welcoming drink, after all the time in the shed to get through customs. Then another queue to collect vouchers. More qeues to activate the cabin account. The ship is beautiful, the staff tried to be helpful, but some of the guests behaved like barbaric pirates and this resulted in everything being hectic. The cabin was neat & clean, yet as a black voyager guest, apparently the only one on the ship, i did not feel welcome at all, i became my duty to inform the voyager desk, who was rarely available, that my cruise card need to be updated. We eventually, four days later started to receive the voyager welcome drink and platter in the cabin. After the 3rd cruise embarcation was completed on the 16th of december, i was horrifically embarressed by the hotel staff, after confirming the night before, that the seating arrangements for the second seating for the final cruise will remain the same. This was confirmed and after being seated, as arranged, we were moved around like chess pieces. I have never been this embarresed on any cruise, for that metter, not ever in even the average african restaurant. I then wrote a note to the customer service desk, indicating the situation and stated that i am not happy with the situation and the treatment from staff. The customer relations manager, chanel, the f&b manager, the spa manager, the casino maneger and other staff had a meeting and i was requested to have a meeting with them. Several issues were recitfied and we were treated with dignity and sincerely appologised to for the inconvenience and lack of acknowledgement. The main aim for this cruise, was to scatter the ashes of my partner, whom cruised with me since 2009, every single cruise, last in december 2016. We had booked a cruise for december 2017, but due to jason's medical state, he was not able to partake and we decided to cancel. Jason passed on 20 may 2018, and his wish was to scatter his ashes during a cruise. I've made all the arrangements, took all possible actions into consideration, arranged for all the documentation, made the relevant arrangement on the ship, to ensure everything is done legally and without consequinces, but eventually cancelled the request, as this was suppose to be a memorable experience, and not coupled to horrific memories. Therefor jason is back at home. I will cruise again, it's the most relaxing and practical holiday for me, as im a event planner, the head chef of my company and the owner of a venue in gauteng. I've refered hundreds of my clients and guests to msc, always tell people of this super experience, the most awesome service and amazing shows. To cruise is the only holiday for me, as it was for jason. Therefor i will not consider the last cruise i took as an indication of cruising experience, as there is so much more, i have experienced it in over 15 cruises since 2009. The portuguese islands and pomene was done and developed in great taste, well arranged and really confortable settings, but not really africa friendly, as the guests have proofed to other more sifisticated guests, that manners and etiquete lacks and can create chaos even in the best of planned events. Thank you again for a great experience. Read Less

Joined the cruise as a group booking for a friend's birthday celebration. Off the bat we were all excited and mostly on the same floor, not next to each other, but that was fine. Accommodation: Rooms and cleaning staff were probably the best part of the trip, neat, friendly staff here too! Dining: Halal: The concept of halal is very confusing on this cruise, we are told meats are halal, but there's ham, bacon, etc. which I fully understand, but one would assume the "Halal corner" would have said halal meats right? No, here we get vegetarian omelettes. Also, having sliced ham next to sliced 'halal' meats is not halal friendly, diners not Muslim easily use utensils across various products. So I stayed away. The real issue came when I experienced these 2 scenarios: Scenario 1: Seated dining, noting 'meats are halal sign at restaurant', where at least 3 of the meals are cooked in wine! This is not on and not acceptable! Scenario 2: At the destination there was a BBQ, whilst dishing at the buffet I asked the server which are halal to which he says 'everything' so I asked, "even the stuff labelled pork?" to which he chuckled and told his colleagues as if it was a fat joke. I am not a religious fanatic, but some mutual respect and common decency is expected when working in a service industry. Buffet (Breakfast & Lunch): let's just say we eventually called the buffet "fight for food" because that is what it felt like. Never mind the queues, the way people over dished and wasted was uncanny. The ship was ill-prepared for the rushes and ran out of food at the one destination too. Seated Dinner: Dining experience was terrible as we weren't all seated near each other, but a few tables away spread across 3 tables. In an effort to maximize mingling we would shuffle ourselves so we all could chat, the waitrons complained about this for each meal and were just uncouth.one even made fun of the way someone pronounced some wine! Unnecessary and disrespectful. Considering the seated dining is considered "fine dining" the way the waiter would ask for the beverage coupons mid meal was rude. Vouchers: MSC we are in the 21st Century, surely the idea of little vouchers (very barter system like) that could get wet on a boat is a bit outdated - unless that is the plan? How about pre-loading this and all other packages onto the cruise card and giving us lanyards so we don't a)stand in queues upon arrival b) lose vouchers c) don't have to constantly carry books around whilst trying to swim! It was also lovely that they take profession pictures of you before you embark the ship. Walking into the ship I was amazed by the beauty and elegance of everything. The cabin was absolutely amazing. The bed was so comfortable it was hard to leave it in the morning. The food in the formal dining lounges was to die for, so many options and so little stomach room. On board entertainment was great, from shows to bingo to the casino, so much fun to be had. Ultimately here was nothing better than just laying in the sun taking in the sea views and sipping on delicious cocktails. A birthday gift. Family cruise, a truly memorable time. Kids didn't do activities. Just spending time together exploring. Not enough time though. Too short, a definitely will be a 2nd cruise. Cleaning crew very friendly and helpful, professional. Dinner wasn't so good, the lateness and not much of a variety. Brekkie and lunch was lovely. Definitely would recommend to others. Thx MSC The coffee and juices wasn't nice. I think the check out time was chaotic since the was only one side of the reception open. Lines was super long. Boarding experience was fun and very organized for a huge crowd. The lady at reception explaining about the card system was so helpful and didn't rush even though the was a line. Very patient. We had a awesome time with our family. Didn't feel sick, got lost lots but was fun finding our way around. Thank you to your very capable and friendly team. Read Less
