I enjoyed the cruise. The only thing I wasn’t happy about was the food. It was mostly tasteless, it really needs a lot of improvement. Our cabin was great. Spacious and well-presented. It would be great if the bedding/sheets were changed daily. Our steward told us they only change them every 3rd day. The entertainment was great as well, enjoyed the comedy shows and performances in the evenings. Also enjoyed chilling by the pool deck, that was my favorite part! With regards to the drinks packages voucher, they should be linked to the passenger cruise card. We lost one of our vouchers on the ship and there was nothing that we could do to recover it. At least if it was linked to our cruise cards, we could just block it at reception and get issued new ones. But we couldn’t do that so we lost about R850. Embarkation process also needs improvement. We were in the queue for over 2hours waiting to board. I would definitely recommend the cruise! Read Less

I have children who love the idea of cruising, but there was too little water activity for them - the swimming pools were constantly overfull and by the third day they were murky and dirty. There is too much noise and enforced music and on top of that people brought their own speakers to the jacuzzi. I loved the sushi restaurant and the library. The opportunity to buy photos for $44 was just ridiculously overpriced. I feel this is beyond cynical. The kids club was overcrowded and looked sad and no fun at all. No activities going on every time we peeked in and considered going. It's a pity - this could have been so much more worthwhile but the overcrowding and the noise put us off. The food was great though and my youngest son loved the idea of being able to go get pizza whenever he felt like it Read Less

I have been on 3 cruises before this cruise. Both our previous cruises were "cold weather" cruises, one in Alaska and one in NZ. We were very excited about this cruise and I must say we did have an enjoyable time. However compared to the 2 other cruises the ship lacked "quality". The food was below average, especially in the fine dinning areas in the evenings. The entertainment was very good, décor was good but a big concern for me was the cleanliness off the public ablutions. The smelt very bad and where not clean!! We were in a non smoking section of the ship but guests close to us kept on smoking and the smell will blow into our area. This was not dealt with by the staff on board. I wouldn't rush back to a MSC cruise based on this experience. The destinations were great. Mauritius was fantastic and Reunion even better. The excursions were very expensive and can be done on your own at a much lower cost. Read Less

We had an opportunity to go on our first ever cruise to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. We had high expectations and prepared ourselves accordingly. Our first disappointment came when the promised wheelchair for my husband was not available. The waiting to board on account of the passport control computer glitch added to our woes. These two setbacks caused a great deal of discomfort added to which cabins were not ready either due to late disembarking of the passengers from Mozambique. We were disappointed with the cuisine in the dining room and expected some more exotic dishes. For the most part it was flavourless and definitely not served hot. in our opinion the pool deck is actually too small to accommodate the number of passengers. For us to ensure we had somewhere to sit on the pool deck I had to get up there somewhat early, even before breakfast to "book" a table otherwise we would not have been able to find seating. Our cabin and cabin steward were pretty darn good but there were a couple of days when our promised fruit did not arrive at the cabin. The evening shows were excellent and we saw all except one of them. We found the library had a good enough selection of books. Our disembarkation was another disaster although this time we were allocated a wheelchair which enable us to get ashore quickly and have to say the helpers were first class. Due to some or other reason our baggage tag had a brown label so despite disembarking early we were the last to receive our luggage. it was only thru my calls and the kindness of another passenger that our Southcoast Shuttle waited for us. I have to say tho that we would certainly cruise again but possibly not at that time of the year or when it is so busy. I think it would be in your best interests to advise parents of children that running in the passages and thru lounges should be discouraged. I saw some near clamaties caused by that and children should not be allowed to play in the lifts. Read Less

We choose that cruise for the itinerary, apity that it was only one day at Reunion and no stop in Madagascar. The Boat itself was great, cabin nice, and food average, but what a disater in embarkation where the staff let us wait for over one hour and thirty minutes , as their Pc was offline before they decide to do the check manually we could hardly understand what they were anouncing on the spearkers in the hall, and at disembarkation we were not informed in our lounge when to go, so we followed everybody and it went smoothly until we had to wait for MSC schuttle, we nearly missed our plane as we were waiting in the sun for two hours to get our bus. We definitely think that a staff of MSC should have been there to check that the flow was running properly. we did find that buses were scare at disembarking but they were actually few of them waitng for passenger at airport. Embarking and disembarking in Mauritius and Reunion was excellent. Staff on board was excellent specially at reception Mariia Lataba, and our waiter Superjana and the supervisor from Honduras in restaurant as they went also out of their way to look after us. Food was average, as some items on the menu did not correspond to what we were served, but quality was average to excellent. We could see another cruise but not on the same tpye of bad service at embarkation and disembarking. Read Less

Cruised many times on msc and always wanted to go to this particular destination. The embarkation and disembarkation was an absolute disgrace and most if not all the passengers complained. To be made to stand for more than two hours with small children is completely unacceptable. i didn't even see staff from the ship coming around to apologize for any inconvenience caused. I am not asking for much, but this was the most expensive cruise of the entire calendar and i felt we were not treated at all well. The food was really good and the bar staff etc were great. After many cruises with mr steven cloete as the cruise director i was shocked at what i saw from the current person in charge..i would humbly suggest that msc gets someone of mr cloete's caliber in th future. I am sailing again this year as the experience was not terrible, but something needs to be done with the south african entertainment staff. Each year, things seem to get worse and worse. Read Less

In general a relaxing experience which can easily be improved if MSC wants to. Issues that needs attention is the most terrible coffee being served, there is no reason to serve such disgusting coffee and no person on the cruise including staff said that they liked it. Being our second cruise we took cappuccino sachets with, but surely they MUST be willing to serve better coffee. And then SMOKING!!! Again it make no sense that Casino is smoking area, in middle of lounges, open to both ends and the smoke just fills major parts of the lounge areas. Then the excursions the organized with outside companies is expensive but more importantly no value for money as it is basically was a taxi helldrive with lives in danger and no relaxing day tour. It seems that all these is done purely for their bottom line, thus the guests is not their first priority!! Food was good in general but waitering at dinner irritating as there system only allows your waiter to even bring you butter or bread- thus if he is busy or not very good you will wait and ask wait - really irritating- why not at least have runners which can attend small things guest need.? We took this cruise because it was closest to home,it was our first with MSC, it was 11 nights, and had a minimum of 6 days at sea (this gives us time to explore the vessel and to relax), unlike shorter cruises where daily disembarkation is the order of the day. The embarkation was a total disaster. We never experienced such a long wait on any of our previous cruises with Costa, P&O, and others. There was no proper manning and directives from the MSC personnel to which queue we should go to.In all we waited for 3 hours and 30 minutes before we got to our cabin.Thank God the disembarkation although not the best, went smoother, and got to our taxi on time (10 am) to connect to our flight which was scheduled for 12:40pm. The overall appearance of the ship was very satisfactory, pleasant, elegant, well appointed and the interior decor, one of the best we have experienced so far. Warm colors, not overpowering, well balanced with intriguing fixtures and fittings. Disappointed with the size of our balcony cabin (14001), smaller than all our previous cruises for the same category. Although smaller, yet very warm colors, well appointed and very clean. Roni, our cabin attendant provided an excellent service during the whole cruise. I was also disappointed as an Aurea cabin passenger, not to have had access to the Spa facilities free of charge! This is something to be considered. Although most unhappy about the 1st (too early) and 2nd seating (too late), we had a wonderful dining experience especially on the "elegant" days where we got pampered with crayfish tails and prawns. Overall food experience was OK, but got an amazing service from our waiter SUPERJANA, professionally mannered, who really took care of us and the other three Eskenazi guests at our dinner table 627 We were not overall impressed with the evening shows. Some better than others (the family of 4, and the South African Comedian), being better than the others. The sports arena was handled by a disorganized team, in that, I had to personally intervene, to enable us, to have a game of Tennis. We were told, that no one is interested in that kind of activity, by which I responded: How can you have anyone interested when you don't publicize on the bulletin, the time for that particular activity, for which He responded and made an effort to have it printed on the next bulletin. And guess what? many came the following day wanting to play the game. On the day of the event, One of the two posts that support the net had only one bolt holding it instead of 4, and could not secure the net because the pole was leaning badly. The event did not took place, and had to report the matter, which was then rectified for the following day. What is incomprehensible is that when one day we wanted to try our luck to have a game of tennis early in the morning, the tennis posts which holds the net were removed, and again we were inconvenienced once again. Also, the interruption of the TV broadcasting programs didn't meet our expectations. Yes, when you are on a cruise, you can attend to the various activities provided on board, but it's always nice to be in touch with world news, or watch a program when you just want to relax and have a peaceful time in your own cabin. I can go on with more, but, certain things can happen that shouldn't happen. However, I would like to throw in some recommendations for the betterment of all, being the passenger or MSC personnel. -At the buffet: I suggest/recommend MSC to put fairly big posters that states as a slogan: EAT AS MUCH AS YOU WANT BUT DO NOT WASTE ( I was appalled to the wastage/left over of food people leave on their plates) hoping this will bring an awareness to the public to respect food when there are so many people dying of hunger. -I am an Italian, and although the pizza was of a good quality, I feel the base could have been a bit crispier -The croissants, appealing to the eye, but not for the taste bud, should also be crispier. The ones I had, tasted like cardboard -The juices offered (orange, grapefruit...etc) are the worse I have had in any of my cruises. It is poor in quality, pure chemical liquid and undrinkable + they were not cold at all (rather lukewarm) I cannot found fault to the rest of my breakfasts experience. As for the lunch, equally, I cannot find fault to the diversity and quality of food provided At the sports Arena: -Assign a dedicated person that will "man" the sports activities effectively and professionally, reducing unhappy and unattended passengers, with stipulated times printed in the daily bulletin for each activity. At the Spa: -I am the one who recommended to the Spa manager, to lay/place a non slippery mat between the showers in the men's changing rooms and the seating bench (+/- 3 meters long) and 1 meter wide. And equally the same, between the Jacuzzi spa's bath and the entrance doors that leads to it. If by any mistake, one would slip on those floors, it could lead to very grave injuries on behalf of the passenger that could lead to costly lawsuit. By doing what I suggest, it will at least, provide a better walking facility to your passengers preventing them to slip on a wet floor as it is right now. The Dining seating configuration: I recommend that one of the venues, be it l'Oleandro or Belle epoque, provide a freedom seating configuration from 6pm till 9pm. In this way, you are providing a choice to your passengers and the freedom to choose when to eat without being pressurized or pushed. As stated above, the 1st seating starts too early and the second too late. When you complete your lunch at +/- 1.30pm or thereabout, it's too early to go on the 1st seating with only 4 and half hour or so, gap. By waiting now, for the second seating, you are now eating at +/- 8.45pm, getting too late. The above would resolve this issue as in fact they do at the P&O cruises. The ship excursion: I have had on other cruises better tour documented statistically, and more in depth, visiting more ship departments than the one we had on MSC Musica. The participating organisers, did not have the knowledge to present this tour with more statistical informations right across the whole departments we visited, that includes the executive chef from Cape Town. I would recommend that the presenters have a set scripts with statistics for each department to be visited. FOOD FOR THOUGHT: -In order to decrease the cost of printing daily the bulletin and delivered to our cabins couldn't that be done via the TV at our rooms or better, if you provide freely WiFi facility to send the bulletin directly to our mobile. -The kids section on MSC Musica on the upper deck was hardly used. We seldom found anyone over there, parents with their children! That space could be used for something else than a dead end space. -The Specialty Sushi restaurant, on MSC Musica, could have suited better if it wasa good steak house meeting the South African culinary palate, with good steaks(T bones, sirloin, rump, fillet...etc). I believe strongly that this would have been betterpatronized than the sushi restaurant. Whenever we passed by, it was never full, if onlyhalf, most of the time Finally, we were very impressed by Sergiu responsible for future cruise reservations, who managed to organize for us, 8 people, our next cruise in December from Dubai under booking no. 31886371 for Thony Cesano and Paola Thompson. He knows his material well, and was very pleasant and a pleasure to deal with him. Thank you for taking time in reading, this, I believe, with due concern in the hopethat it will be attended or thought off in order to improve the experience of your futurepassengers in any of your cruises. After having cruised the first time in 2016 on the Sinfonia and accidently selecting a cruise where there were hundreds of matriculants who we thought were very out of control, we thought we would have to book another cruise where there would be a family environment, so we booked a 5 night cruise with the Musica. We thought that without all the unruly youngsters and being a another ship things would be better. However sad to say. things were not up to our expectations. It was refreshing to be on a cruise which had a more of a family environment as far as fellow passengers was concerned, but the crew on the Musica in comparison to the Sinfonia were very different. Firstly, the Sinfonia's entertainment crew were much better as from the minute we stepped on board they interacted with passengers and were always seen mingling and interacting with passengers. They targeted people and then interacted with those they had targeted in such a wonderful way that they became friends on first name basis and whenever we were seen by them they would greet us by name and with huge respect. The crew on the Musica seemed tired or angry when we first embarked on board in Durban and it was only the last two days that they sort of started to smile and greet and make one feel welcome. The crew on the Sinfonia were exceptional in comparison to the Musica. The senior officers were however the same on both ships and I cannot fault them at all. Then there were two very upsetting incidents experianced on board the Musica. The first was the poor service experianced by the bar service person on the Promanade deck who took almost an hour to bring our drinks, and after repeating my order to him three times only then did we recieve our order. The second disappointing occasion was experianced in our dinning resturant on the third night, after returning from our excurtion from Pomene. Our waiter seemed to be high on something as he was over talkative and leaning over the ladies in my family. He also kept on repeating himself to such an extent that he even forgot what he had served us and almost gave us the main coarse twice. He also made my daughter of 17 feel very uncomfortable as he seemed to make advances to her. He seemed so high that he coulnt even write the details on our coupons correctly and eventually just gave up trying and shoved them into his pocket. I was also very unhappy with the incorrect details printed on my reciepts recieved by two barmen on twooccasions when i noticed that there were drinks printed on my reciept that I never ordered, and when quering this they simply said "No, dont worry the total is Zero" I even made one barman reprint the reciept because even although I was not charged for these, the printouts refleced incorrect information and that is not professional, its fraudulent. The shows were very good, but again not as good as the Sinfonia. So all in all, despite having a great cruise and experiancing some good moments, it was not of the same standard as what we experianced two years ago on the Sinfonia, and was not as good as what we expected. I really feel that the cruise onboard the Musica was not on par with the high standards that a 5 star cruise according to the MSC brochures. The food although good lacked verity. The ice ran out often in the buffet dinner and the coffee was often cold. I even though that at three in the morning it would be hot, but could not even find a full pot of coffee at that time. Master of the ship Captain Pinto worked extremly hard and was often seen interacting with the passengers and crew and he seems to be a hands on kind of leader and I had great empathy for him as I saw him struggling with difficult situations regarding passengers and enviroments and I must applaud him for this, however it also gave me the impression that he was dealing with a incompetant staff and that is why he had to often take matters into his own hands. So SORRY MSC and I must apologise for this very negative review. It was not nice to write it. However, I hope that this review will not be seen as one submitted by a disgruntled and unhappy passenger, but seen as positive critisism in order to raise the standard and improve the things that were substandard in comarison to our last cruise. We did our best to enjoy our cruise and it was not "BAD" it was just a little under par for the coarse. I hope that this will be accepted in good faith as a honest reveiw and not one that is just trying to impress you. As far as planning another cruise....well we will just have to wait and see what response I get from MSC regarding this review. Thank you Read Less

The cruise was very over crowded. Unless you have a spacious balcony room where you can enjoy a view and privacy there is no place on the ship where you do not compete with your fellow passengers for a space to just sit and relax. Even the children's entertainment was over crowded. Before going on the cruise my children ( 6 and 12) was very excited to join the childrens activities until they got there and was met with rows and chaos. Children crying and having to stand in yet more rows to be booked into a small room where there was nothing exciting for the children such as jungle gyms or anything that might get my 6 year old to maybe look past the chaos. All one could see looking into the room was is a table where they can draw and tvs with games. My son wanted a place to run and climb not just sit. He had one look at the room he was about to be left in and immediatly decided this is not what he expected. Yes, they where taken out of the small room from time to time by the crew to play in other areas but because the initial experience was so off putting I could not convince my son to just give it a try and stay with the group for just a bit. Even the teens activities did not have anything to entice my 12 year old to try it. We ended up having to try and entertain our children in an enviroment full of bars. The swimming pools is also very small. Children are not allowed to jump or really spash in the pools, not that there is space in the pools to do that. The pools are deffinetly not designed with children to play in in mind. Right next to the pools is jacuzzis. My children was very excited going on the cruise that they could experience a jacuzzi. Imagine the disappointment when we entered the jacuzzi to be chased out because children younger than 16 are not allowed in it. No where is there any bords stating this. Eating at the buffy was also met with chaos. No place to sit. The overall quality of the food was very good but the experience was spoiled by having to compete to get a space to sit and enjoy the food. The quality of the shows in the evenings was amazing. Even my children enjoyed it. Read Less

The cruise was an overall disappointing experience. I have been on two cruises on the MSC Sinfonia and that was by far a much better ship and cruise experience as compared to the MSC Musica. Firstly the ship looked rather old and rundown. The rooms looked good but the not at all stable. The roof and doors creeked whilst in motion and made unusual noises disturbing the sleep we tried to get. The overall look and feel of the ship was bad as it looked like it was unkempt. Further after day two on the cruise there was this horrid smell coming up deck four and deck five. By the time we were disembarking the smell had started to reach deck 6. The smell was horrendous and almost vile. This prevented us from going to those decks. Further the restaurant service left much to be desired. We were served dinner by a waiter called Syafuidan from Indonesia. His temperament and level of service was downright poor. He was hardly courteous and had a major problem serving us. He was not pleasant and he had a major issue serving us if we required seconds of any item on the menu. He was so rude to the point that he rolled his eyes when we requested service. He literally avoided our tables. The one night we waited over an hour to get our main course. When we reported it to his manager the response was not better. On our final night there this waiter in not so many words said he was glad to see us go, The manager went to the point to remark that if we were staying on for the 11 night cruise he will disappear. We were 7 people at our table and we in no way did anything to receive this kind of service. This started on night one. If the waiter is unhappy to do this kind of work then he should not be the face of the restaurant serving the patrons of the cruise, We came expecting a great time but we were sadly disappointed and will not consider cruising again with MSC. Further the embarkment process was rather long and tedious. We stood in the queue for almost two hours just to check in before standing in another queue for passport control. There must be a better way to expedite this process Read Less

We’ve been on ptevious cruise which was very enjoyable. Having said that we realize that the very busy cruises doesn’t suit us. Some of the staff were very friendly and helpful but some were abrupt and clearly tired of the masses and their demands. Our formal dining was especially a big let down. Our waiter was not helpful and friendly and the portions were not adequate and we were hungry after every meal. We tried without any success to change our sitting from the first to the 2nd sitting after being sent from one person to another. Eventually on the last night we took matters into our own hands and changed to the 2nd sitting. What a pleasure!!! The waiter was very pleasant and helpful. A special mention to your barman in the cigar lounge. He was always friendly and very helpful. Overall we had a good time and will recommend MSC but not over a busy period. Unfortunately MSC cannot control the people that book but we found that the very busy cruise lacked a certain kind of caliber of people. Read Less

We wanted to find out what the hype was all about and to find out if this is the type of thing we would like to do in future. We will surely try it again but we will make use of a better knowledgeable agent next time. We will NEVER stay in an inside cabin again -EVER! We will make sure that we travel at a time when there will be fewer children on the cruise as they occupied ALL the swimming pools ALL the time. The shocking wasting of food by passengers was something our group could not understand or believe. Passengers would PACK their plates and then leave more than half uneaten just to go and take another plate and stack it up again! I know it's not the crew's fault but if people behave like that, a restriction should be placed on how much food one may take or the food must be served by crew members. Unfortunately people are not civil enough to be trusted with basic manners so some measures must be put in place to prevent it from happening. (For example, why would someone take three to four burgers and throw them all away still wrapped?) The pre-paid voucher system is one big money-making scheme. Supposedly identical drinks would come in different sizes depending on the time of day while your "tickets" have the same monetary value, all of the time. Embarkation was another horrible experience as it was more crowded than Black Friday at Makro. You waste more than half a day to get onto the ship just to be told you can't go to your cabin because it is not ready yet - really? But maybe we arrived on a bad hair day and joined the wrong type of cruise for us. We will give it a try again next season when we have planned better as to avoid the unpleasant experiences we had on this cruise - especially the noisy cabin and unsupervised children part. Read Less

Other Friends have been on similar Sinfonia cruises. Although I checked their photos and the Sinfonia has more to offer and looked better than the Musica. My first cruise and the experience was worthwhile and good for an experience. There was still adequate facilities for the entire family's entertainment. Overall food quality was good with good variation on the dinner dining choice everyday. All shows and entertainment were well planned and coordinated and got the crowd always enjoying. However a staff attitude issue marred the overall dining experience every single day as we had the same bad attitude person taking drinks orders at the allocated dining restaurant, always looking angry, not smiling and never ever coming back for further orders or even with a slice of Lennon for the drinks for all the days we dined, and which was explicitly requested many times. This is not a NEW ship but was used in a different region and then refurbished and it was quite evident they had a inherent plumbing issues with with very bad smells coming when your crossed various cabins across the different floors - which is definitely not acceptable, unless assuming we from Africa, where this flies. I hope they completely revamp their plumbing systems, else this will constantly be fixed temporarily only. Read Less

Was an interesting experience but according to friends reviews we expected much more and were very disappointed. The only highlight were the pomene island stop that was great! Everything quite expensive and meals on deck 13 for lunch and dinner every single day the same hotdogs, chips and burgers. Don't know whether we will ever do a cruise again!! Not good value for money and not much entertainment for kids and adults on msc musica. Breakfasts were good, but on deck 5/6 mostly the same deck 13 were good but too many people not enough place to be seated.
