My husband and I are a retired couple and run an AirBnB but, we never seem to have the finances to afford a fabulous holiday and, we most definitely did not think that we would ever be able to afford a cruise. Anyway, friends of ours were chatting about their upcoming cruise and they mentioned there was a very special price on offer. Hubby and I enquired at the MSC office in Morningside and we were given the special price of R6850.00 for both of us with a balcony off our cabin. The offer was irresistible and we embarked on a holiday of a lifetime. The nightly entertainment was out of this world...the food was really good although I would have liked to see more cooked veggies. The trip to the island was a pleasant experience with well-designed procedures for moving from ship to ferry. The library, the games, the music in the lounges, dining a la carte and the very helpful staff were all added bonuses. Our cabin had a balcony (YAY)...the double bed, pillows, and linen were very comfortable, there was also a hair-dryer in the room. The bathroom with shower, toilet, and basin is a fair size and well-fitted. The cocktails were not great. We purchased a package for 18 cocktails and do believe that a little more time and effort could have been put to making them. When I drink a cocktail, it should be refreshing and taste like more...some of the cocktails just tasted of pure alcohol. So, tastier cocktails (like the Amurula Magic mmmmm) may enhance the traveller's experience. By the time we finished our 5 day cruise, we felt amazing and very well rested. We will never forget our time spent on the MSC Musica and we do hope that another affordable cruise will surface towards the end of the year so we can relive the experience. Thank you MSC Musica for heping us to make beautiful memories! Read Less

Awesome cruise. Enjoyed all the entertainment. The waiters were the best. Very helpful and attentive. The lounges were luxurious and the music was soothing. We enjoyed the shows at the theatre. The Portugese island experience was the best. The beach was beautiful. However would have preferred being dropped off closer to the seating and eating area. We would love to go on another cruise. The food was delicious and there was an abudance and wide variety... More curries and seafood would be good. My son's who are special needs really enjoyed their cruise. Its not very often that we come across people who are non judgemental of our kids... But I would like to say the waiters were kind and treated them with so much respect. We want to thank the crew for the attention to detail and their hospitality. It was our first cruise and would love to go another cruise soon. Read Less

My wife purchased the tickets. Whilst the weather was not our friend, there were enough activities on board to keep one entertained. The staff certainly had a lot of patience, especially the Bar staff as they were kept on their toes at all hours. We were assigned to a 9th floor balcony cabin. Spacious and neat and always keep clean. The food was plentiful with the food platters kept stocked for breakfast and lunch. The restaurant we had supper in was 5 star. I was however hoping for a good juicy steak on the menu but no luck. Whilst the interior of the ship appeared in good condition, the exterior needs some TLC such as rust removed and a paint job here and there, but overall still in good condition. If I had to change something it would be the ability to use South African Currency on board as the US Dollar is not a good friend of the Rand. Read Less

Need to separate the selfish smokers to their own area. Only do the muster drill after leaving port, would have been nice to experience the departure from the deck instead of the casino. Embarkation takes along time. Food was excellent , Shows were good. Need to employ friendlier security staff. The Tender process was first class. Well maintained and practical tenders utilized. The facilities on the shore excursions were also world class. The drinks are quite expensive. The ship is well maintained and very smooth running. Loved the cabin balcony. Loved the pool at Pameno The food was in abundance and tasty Excellent housekeeper Velly. Friendly and helpful We had an excellent waiter at dinner - Adi also his assistant. We have been on the MSC Opera and Sinfonia so this was our 3rd trip with MSC. The embarkation was wonderful!!!!! The "Easy On Board" option that we had made embarkation much easier. Within 2 hours from arriving at the harbour we were on the Musica. No standing in queues for hours. We stayed on Deck 10 Minuetto. We decided to go for the "cabin with a balcony" which we really enjoyed. We enjoyed dining in the Belle Epoque restaurant. Our table no was 701. We had a great waiter. Very helpful and friendly. The 2nd seating works well for us as we enjoy the shows in the Teatro. and were excellent. The Portuguese Island was nice but we did not enjoy Pomene. With time it will definitely be great excursion. Food and service on the islands were good. We will definitely be cruising with MSC in the near future and can highly recommend it. Read Less

We have not been on one before and wanted to do something the whole family would enjoy. Our concerns were naturally being sea sick, but the ship is so stable you hardly notice the swaying, and none of us had issues. The Embarkation took a lot longer than expected and by the time we boarded it was after 1pm and with child, we were irritable and hungry. The buffet hall was completely full and we resorted to eating outside the back end of the buffet hall. This however we came to realise was going to be an ongoing problem during the cruise... we never got to eat inside the dining hall as it was always full. So most meals were had around the pool area. The queues inside the buffet was another frustration.... people are total gluttons and this made our journey less enjoyable. At one stage I asked a staff member for if they had more walnuts as they has run out at both the fruit and yoghurt stations and all I got was "no", we don't have anymore.... I found this disturbing as we were day 3 into our 5 day cruise. So breakfast and lunches, whether onboard or on Pomene were negatives for us. Portuguese Island was a lovely day and the beach was nice and clean and the MSC provided shade was welcomed. Pomene however was the complete opposite. by the time we go there, just before 11, there were no shaded seats left. The queues for food and drink were shocking again so we decided to go back to the ship and spend our day there. At the Belle Epoque restaurant, we were always well serviced by Iyvin and Juzah. And we celebrated our son's birthday on the 12th and the restaurant staff and entertainment staff all made his day a special one. The Indian gentleman (I never got his name) who did our housekeeping was also wonderful and also polite and helpful. In general, we found the staff who worked the food and beverage to not be as happy and pleasant.. possibly because of the constant numbers and orders. The other negatives were the small pools, I was expecting more or larger given the volume of people on the ship and the gym was also limited in equipment. Maybe look into getting things like gliders, skipping ropes, kettle bells etc, that can be used for functional training. Otherwise the programmes were informative and overall it was an enjoyable experience. Read Less

This was my first cruise and it was always in my to do list . The embarkation process was smooth and easy to follow , very controlled too. Disembarkation process even better , no unnecessary traffic as disembarkation occurs per deck and different intervals. The beauty of the ship is mind blowing , the view from the top deck is amazing and every deck looks luxurious. Another little detail i loved about the ship was the restroom in deck 14 with a view of the ocean. The cabin was well presented ,clean and to top it all of the TV programmed with our names with welcome massages. Entertainment was a bit average for me , there were some interactive activities which were fun. restaurants were would class the blue velvet was my restaurant of the trip and i thank my travel agency that advised me to by drinks package as i would have spent a fortune (buying in dollars). The Portuguese island was lovely spent 6 hours Drinking 2M and buying some wood carved goods, so carrying some Rands helped. I would love to cruise again in a more themed cruise ship . Read Less

There were so much to do, I couldn't even do everything. The disco DJ was very excellent, he made us dance till the early hours of the morning. There's no time to sleep in that ship, thanks to the DJ The cruise staff are friendly, helpful and always smiling. There's no hassles in the ship, going to an Island and coming back was an easy ride. We really had fun at the Island and we enjoyed travelling to Inhaca Island. I will definitely do it again. Keep up the great work Read Less

everyone as being going on the msc cruise and gave back positive feedback so we got a special and grab it money well spent. The view you will never see any where in JHB or DBN its amazing. Nothing beats the fresh air out in the ocean. the ship was fully air conditioned so it was never hot unless you out in the open on deck 13 but it still had shady sports to chill under. The food wasn't that grand but def enjoyed the beef curry and the fruit salads however the restaurants wasn't good at all we was always disappointed in the food from the restaurants so we mainly stuck to buffets well burgers and chips pizza and hot dogs was available 24/7 everything is cheap on the ship including alcohol i wouldn't suggest u buy the drink packages as it works out cheaper to just buy ur drinks cash its like only 3 or 4 rands dif im sitting with so many drink vouchers still remaining. also people said hide you alcohol bottles in our bags and go in there was no need as the bottles in the duty free shop was so cheap cheaper than our own bottle stores i would say DO NOT BUY BOTTLES AT THE RESTAURANT u can get the 2 bottles for the price of one in the duty free shop we went to pomene island it was amazing the quad bikes is a must just the fun on riding on a dirt road is nice the water is amazing its really warm spent like 2 hours in the water didn't want to leave food is free on the island as well if you have drink vouchers u can also use it at the msc bars on the island motion sickness 2 people who came with us did get see sick but we just took medizine tablets and was fine again i would suggest when feeling sick just go out on the 13th deck and relax abit you will be back on your feet in no time Read Less

Staff was excellent, well behaved, trained even when some passengers were rude towards them, service was great, ftom the rooms to the bars, to the entertainment. Really friendly experience from getting on board till we disembarked. Shows and entertainment was well organised, pools were good, but only abit too salty. The table tennis, foosball tables were well utilised, although the balls and bars were only available while entertainment crew was on deck. This was my 3rd cruise (Sinfonia, Opera and Musica), but each one had its own unique experience. It was a last minute decision which was worth it as we had a great and enjoyable time on board together with family and friends. The embarking and disembarking was much better organised than the previous times. Crafts and demos was exciting and the shows were spectacular. had a relaxing time in the sauna, steam room and indoor Jacuzzis. Balcony room was spacious with a lounge area although not much time was spent in the cabin. Meals were good, but unfortunately lots of wastage by the patrons. The 24 hr pizza service, pizzas were not filled well hence wastage of 1/4 of the each slice ! 24 hr teas and coffees, unfortunately water was warm throughout except at breakfast. The trips to and from Pomene Island went very smooth but due to the immense heat, not much time was spent on the Island. Had a great time at the casino and bingo game. Looking forward to the cruise again early next year. Read Less

We celebrated our 40th anniversary recently and decided to spoil ourselves with our first ever cruise from Durban to Portuguese Island. We were impressed by the efficiency of the booking and check-in. We had a balcony cabin and very satisfied with the quality, neatness and appointments in the cabin. The dining in all restaurants were excellent and we were suitably impressed. The quality and variety were outstanding. Service was excellent in all respects: reception, dining, bars, pooldeck, household, etc. We bought the wine and drinks packages beforehand and that system worked perfectly without any hassles. We could not partake on the shore excursion to Portuguese Island as I had limited mobility due to a recent back-operation, but the stay on board at the pooldeck was perfect, i.e. not overcrowded. We found the pooldeck a bit noisy and overcrowded on the day at sea, but I suppose that is par for the course. The shows we attended were enjoyable and of a high standard. We will definitely do a cruise again, maybe in the Mediteranean or the Caribean. Read Less

This cruise had very few downers and mostly was just perfect! Where possible try ensure you book and catch a shuttle form the airport to the port as this ensures you are dropped off right by the embarkation/customs area. If you not do that it just seems like chaos and people queue for hours. IMPORTANT: Remember to pack your costume and a change of clothes in the bag you are taking with you as you embark. Your suitcases will only arrive in your room later that evening. Dinner times are preset and really difficult to change, so if you cannot wait for the second seating time which is around 20h30 then make sure you go to the restaurant at the specified times to change your seating time. You cannot do this anywhere else on the ship and it is an inconvenience. The only good thing about eating later at the second seating is that you enjoy the first theater show where the team is fresh and energised. They then repeat the act for those who went to the first seating for dinner. The service is generally always good and with a smile! The entertainment was always on the go, get involved or don't get involved. It is really well organised with very few glitches, if any! It's very difficult to speak to someone at reception, you must be willing to stand in a line. This was probably the most time wasted for me, but eventually one assists and of course very efficient. If you are not willing to be targeted with shopping, stay away from the guys selling the expensive products. They will not force themselves and are generally polite, but as soon as you allow one thing to be explained, plan on being caught up for at least half an hour more. Otherwise, the shopping is fun looking at all the brands and prices. Overall though, it was a great experience. Read Less

The MSC Musica is a beautiful ship. Stunning decor and very spacious. My husband and I together with friends had a relaxing, fun filled holiday. There was always something to do with the variety of entertainment on board. The entertainment crew were fantastic. We attended all of the theater shows and throughly enjoyed ourselves. Drinks and food were plenty. My only negative would be that the food could do with a little more flavour, more suited to our South African palate. Especially the food served at the seated dinners. Beautifully presented but lacking in seasoning. We stayed in a balcony cabin and this was superb. It didn't feel crowded and the view from the balcony was breathtaking. Portuguese Island was a bit too hot for us as it was a scorching day so we didnt spend too much time there. The place is beautifully set up and well maintained. All in all, we had a fantastic time. Having travelled several times by air, we decided to try out by sea. I have always been fascinated by the ocean so this was an ideal opportunity to enjoy it more and even closer. The ship was amazing, it catered for the alcoholics! As a Muslim person, there really isn’t much than can be done on board. The swimming area seemed as if it was for the alcoholics and there kids. The theatre was one entertainment activity that we truly enjoyed. It would have been nice if more shows were offered throughout the day. The buffet dining confused very much so. There was signage saying that “MSC has gone out of its way to source halaal meats” however in the buffet area on the 13th floor there was a halaal section. Why? If apparently all of the lamb, poultry and beef on board was halaal. This is according to the many maitre de’s that we had spoken to. Then the halaal section was soooo limited in comparison to the rest of the buffet. Lunch buffet didn’t even offer the halaal section so what were we supposed to eat? Of course doubt enters the mind as a section was cordoned off for halaal. If the sign had made it clear that all the beef, lamb and poultry was halaal then I would have also enjoyed the burgers, hot dogs etc that the non halaal sections were offering. The dinner set up made things feel a lot more special however the same issue as above, the question of the meat being truly halaal. I appreciate that halaal meat was sourced however there is soo much going on that it would have been nice if it was made clear that ALL the poultry, beef and lamb was halaal. I think I would have enjoyed my meals even more. Nonetheless the meals I chose to eat were good and the seafood was exceptionally fresh and cooked very well. Well done to the chefs! To Kishawn Wilkonson, you deserve a good incentive and you have the most wonderful personality and a smile that can make anyone smile. You are extremely friendly and you really went out of your way to render fantastic service! I will never forgot you my friend from St Vincent somewhere near the West Indies. Your are a true gem to that ship and I wish the rest of your colleagues would learn a thing or too from you. To Maria the lady that did the housekeeping for our floor and room. You are truly amazing, your energy is so powerful especially to do what you do. I never got to chat to you but you are a very hard worker and I hope are rewarded for that! The people that work on ships are very hardworking overall and they have to have such a strong threshold for irate people and pressure. I take my hat off to them for all that they do and wish them all the best and hope that one day each one of them will be the captain of their own ship in life. By the way, it would have been very nice and also added a personal touch if Captain Pinto came to down on the last night at dinner to say hello to everyone. Just a thought... Read Less

This was an anniversary gift for my parents, However they mentioned that their toilet was not even working well. They complained but didn't help. Food was average. Nothing special. You need to make sure that the Halaal and vegetarian is not next to the Non-Halaal foods. Also the utensils should not be shared as well when serving. Make sure you have different serving utensils for halaal and non- halaal. A suggestion would be that you seperate the halaal and vegetarian from the non-halaal. It will me much easier and more comforting for us guests. The overall service was great. very friendly and warm welcome. Great vibe on the cruise and entertainment was good. MSC Musica, what a majestic ship, you feel like royalty as soon as you embark, with all the lavish lounges and entertainment areas. The poll area that makes you feel you are on an island already. As you get on greeted by all the friendly staff, you just know this will be a cruise to remember. You will receive a program in your cabin every evening so you can the next days activities accordingly. This really helps so you don't miss out on any of the fun activities on board. The entertainment staff is called the "Dream Team" and that they truly are. THey can keep you entertained for hours on end. The service on the ship was great friendly staff in all areas sush as bars, lounges, spa and gym. Msc offers a wide variety of excursions of the ship as well. Please feel free and safe to try out any of these at an extra charge of course:) Traveling to the emabarkation port was quick and painless. you take a bus from the airport to the harbour for a minimal fee. this is a very convient service. The ship is always clean. Even the cabins gets cleaned by "fairies" as you never see the housekeeping staff. The cabin might seem small at first, but it realy is all you need as there is so much todo all you use the cabin for is to catch some much needed zzzzzz's :) If you get of a ship done by MSC and tell me you are hungry, you did it all wrong. (LOL) Dining experiences on the ship was awesome, from the more informal Buffet dining to the more refined Restaurant dining. All the food is prepared by top chef's. And after all that you can stiil snack in between on som Pizza and Burgers, that is almost available all day. Each night you get treated to a show in the theatre that will not dissapoint. Disembarkation unfotunately is a negative as you get up very early have breakfast with your eys closed and then gets basically shoved of in lines like some sheep being herded. All in all this was a great value for money cruise and I would recommend this to any one wanting to travel the open seas on a budget. Great work Msc keep up the good work! Read Less

Having have cruised with MSC on a number of occasions, our most recent is only our second local cruise, as prefer to travel abroad, with longer itineraries and really enjoy the Repositioning Cruises. We did not expect the same level of service and attention to details as we would receive on an international cruise, however MSC definitely delivered on this cruise which enhanced the experience. The food was top class, the staff extremely attentive, impressed with the cleanliness of the vessel. Embarkation was quick and efficient, however we did have Easy on Board. The above experience is definitely the reason why we keep on sailing with MSC. If MSC is able to keep the experiences at the level are currently doing, they will always have a market here in SA. We have not paid for easy on board. The cruise members were very friendly and helpful and also at the reception. The food and restaurants were great and we have always a place to sit. We only swim once because it was always fullhouse in the shadow around the swimmingpool. The 3 excurtions we went on was well organized. Our Cabin was big enough but as we were on deck 12 we could always hear how the children ran up and down on deck 13. It was a bit too noisy for us. Overall it was a great experience! We thoroughly enjoyed the new ship even though it took a few days to get used to. We did miss the Symphonia though. This is our 3rd cruise and definitely not our last. (We have already booked for New Year 2019) The cabin was bigger then we expected and were very happy we booked a balcony....Even though we had extremely noisy neighbors. It was always very clean and our cabin attendant was very friendly and respectful of our space. The dinners were great and we had many great dishes! Some familiar favorites but some predictable options that lacked a bit of imagination. But all still top notch quality! The service in the dining room was exceptional...as always! What bothered us the most was the shocking dress code in the dining room. We thought there was a strict dress code but it was not enforced which did lower the atmosphere of the dinners. We were also surprised to see so many off the dinners had a "casual" dress code? Call me old fashioned but I don't want to see baggies and slops at dinner? They should rather go to the buffet. The gala evening dress code was SHOCKING and I felt very over dresses wearing a suit. The sushi restaurant was an absolute winner! One thing we did notice on this cruise was an absence of the Entertainment staff? Usually they were more active on board and created a much more festive atmosphere. It didn't bother us but was a little sad to see. As far as the activities go there wasn't as much as in previous cruises? Again this didn't bother us as we still had lots to do but we did hear a few people mention that. In previous years there were always talks and extra games shows in the theatre. We definitely did miss the tv screens with daily events. I know they aren't needed as booking for the theatre is no longer necessary....Ok the theatre...WORLD CLASS! Going to see any show was a real event with the new theatre! The shows were ok. Not the high standard that we are used to. The calibre of the dancers was great but I personally feel the average choreography didn't showcase their standard. Overall the shows weren't what we were used onboard but we did still enjoy them. Generally the service on boards was awesome as usual, however, some of the staff at reception clearly are not people people and we were met with distain when we had a query? The excersion desk was good but some staff were clearly not trained on what was on offer. The excersions we went on were great and had an awesome time! Particularly in Reunion! Generally we loved out cruise and cant wait to board the Orchestra in December this year. The only negative gripe we had was we felt this cruise was a bit "green" like a training cruise to break in staff, shows etc? But still really enjoyed it! Read Less

Easy way to travel - lots of entertainment, excellent food, great spa & gym! Travelled from Durban to Mauritius & Réunion. Sea was calm, had a wonderful Balcony cabin. Preferred later dining slot & managed to request a table just for 2 which made experience more suitable. Entertainment shows were good - enjoyed the comedian from Durban & the last night's show was excellent. Excursions in Mauritius were over priced and not worthwhile. The Excursion desk staff on board, did not really take our complaint of being overcharged & for marketing the Ille Aux Cerfs incorrectly as a private island (it was open to the public and not the nicest beach in Mauritius - very expensive for what one received). Embarkation & Disembarkation at Durban Port terrible. Many hours in extreme heat & chaotic. Unfortunately first and last impressions of what would have been a very relaxing Holiday! Would have preferred it if there were more Italian staff on board the ship to give it a truly European feel. Overall, it was a relaxing way to start a new year. Read Less

Always wanted to see Mauritius and love cruising. We had to fly in from Port Elizabeth to Durban and decided to arrive on Christmas day before embarking on 27 December 2018. The embarkation went relatively smoothly, except that the customs' computers were off line for about an hour. We had the Easy on Board tickets so that helped immensely. Disembarkation was a lot slower due to there being 3 other cruise liners in the harbour so the port officials had their hands full there. The luggage collection could be made better by having a larger space made available and wider isles inbetween the cases. It was rather chaotic with only 1 exit available. Our cabin was situated on the 9th deck and well positioned. We were 3 adults and were very satisfied with everything as well as the service. Service at our Table 505 in the L Oleandro dining room was first class. Our waiters Eko and Jay were fantastic. Eko went above and beyond his waitering. He never once complained about anything. Always had a smile on his face. The evening shows were okay, but the delay between the meals and the shows were too long. There should at least be 1 show during the day. We did not partake in any of the shore excursions as we found them too expensive. We did our own thing. Many passengers were saying they would have preferred 3 days at Reunion and only 1 day in Mauritius. The people of Mauritius were ripping the tourists off! Over-charging on their transport and water taxis refusing to accept coins. This we found absolutely ridiculous and due to these points will not go there again. Read Less
