We tried the majesty last year and were so impressed we decided to do the next one up ie the celebration. We had a large delux cabin which we had booked however we were given a queen bed instead of twin beds as originally requested. That being said the bed was extremely comfy and Ahmad, who looked after our cabin kept it spotlessly clean and the towel “art” each night was great. I hope the next cruise we go on we might get lucky and have Ahmad look after us again! Unfortunately on this cruise the ship appeared to be full to capacity and it was difficult finding seats in the different bars. Also when we wanted to sit and read say in the Hemingway’s bar it was most difficult. We did try the Broadway lounge which was always empty during the day but sadly it was really cold so couldn’t sit and read. The staff were lovely always accommodating nothing was too much trouble for them. The food which was aplenty, was tasty. The pianist Ben was good as was the guitarist. We watched the shows too in the Broadway lounge which were very good I particularly liked the Philip Marlowe production. The comedian they had on was also funny and went down well. An enjoyable cruise although the Celebration is looking tired and needs some TLC. Read Less

This is the third or fourth time we have been on the Celebration over the past 4 yrs I believe. I feel a bit sorry to say that in all ways this ship has gone down in my estimation and is like a frail old lady. This not to say that we did not enjoy our 2 weeks cruise because we did, but knowing this ship for a good few years it is a bit sad, so see her being dragged round the Med when all she wants is a good rest. The cabins are ok especially ours as we have an adapted cabin which is large and adequate in size but it looks exactly as it did when we first went on it all those years ago .apart from a new carpet, except it should not have done. it should have been brought more up to scratch. The cabin does not seem to have been decorated since the beginning of us using it. The food in Mistrals is really lovely but so it should at the supplement over what you have already paid. A very short menu.. The Lido is a bit like a works canteen but we only went there for breakfast as the Meridian was too early for us The food is not quite so good as before but perfectly ok. The best bit about this ship is the staff. They do all they can to make sure that you are happy. I had a couple of blips but it was soon sorted out.. Read Less

So many basic errors and a lack of understanding what cruisers expect. Obvious frozen veg straight out of a packet. Packet gravy. Braised beef hard and dry. Coq au vin not cooked in the totally unrelated sauce. Fruit salad straight from the tin served as stewed fruit compot. The lobster highlight was dry, over cooked and tasteless. Appalling waste of good produce. Fish nearly always flaccid and with no discernible flavour. Best meal was lamb shank local pub style. One sweet served in a badly buckled stemmed dish. Obvious no one is overseeing what is coming out of the kitchen or understands what we expect. Feel I am being taken for a simpleton and being insulted by the offer of an upgraded meal (standard on any cruise line) at extra cost. Staff great. Cabin clean but no fridge. Some good entertainment but some screeching singers. Overaul third rate. Booked for an excellent itinerary pity about the rest. Tui wake up and get a grip. Will only consider Tui for land based holidays in future. Read Less

We as a couple in our 60s always choose Marella (formerly Thomson) for our cruises. The smaller ships are our choice as they are friendlier and more intimate. Great crew, always greeting you with a smile. We sailed from Dubrovnik, taking in Bar (Montenegro), Korcula (Croatia) and Venice, among a few other ports of call. All were beautiful - and the weather helped!! Sunny and hot every day. Although the ship, the Celebration, was full, we never felt cramped at any time. We are going back on this ship in October for 2 weeks from Dubrovnik to Malaga (repositioning). A couple of small gripes. We felt the entertainment this time round was not up to the usual high standard we have experienced before, particularly in the Broadway show lounge. We also found the food in the waitered Meridian restaurant of lesser quality than on previous cruises. Marella take note - other cruisers were of the same opinion. However, we can't fault Marella Celebration crew-wise. Even the vibration of the ship we have become accustomed to and now expect! Very enjoyable from start to finish. Read Less

We have cruised regularly on Thomson (TUI - Marella) and Cunard. We finally persuaded our friends to join us. The Marella Celebration itinerary was excellent as it included Venice, Dubrovnik and Korcular. Some of our favourite places. Marella is less formal than Cunard, uses Sterling and had a great all inclusive deal when we booked. We did a cruise and stay holiday staying on the island of Kolocep just 30 mins from Dubrovnik. This was our first time on the Celebration but we knew her sister ship, the Spirit very well. Our first impressions were very favourable as though the deck layout is almost identical there is a much more modern feel to the Celebration - less vestiges of her Holland America past. The main dining room food was excellent - we ate all our meals there as it’s so much relaxed experience than the Lido. The included drinks were good enough for the most of us though one of our friends who deals in wine thought the Cote de Rhône to be excellent and good value for money. There were no sea days on this cruise - and I do miss a good sea day to relax. I think all that can be said about the age of the ship has been said before. I love the teak decks and the fact she is easy to get around. What gives this ship her heart are the people who work on it, the value for money and the entertainment. We would certainly return if it was the right itinerary. A first for TUI Marella is a welcome back party for loyal cruisers. You have to go to reception to let them know you have cruised with Thomsons before to be eligible. Cunard contact you and know your status - so me thinks Thomson’s weren’t keeping this info. We even received a little badge! We really found no fault with anything on the ship apart from the embarkation process that takes place on the ship - Long long queues We always choose our cabins after studying the deck plan as we like to be central and not near noisy areas. I do think a deck plan should be given out at departure - like other cruise lines. We knew the layout but our friends hadn’t cruised before. The cabin numbers and decks don’t tally. We were on deck 8 bridge deck but cabin 075. Dining - we dined in the Meridian for most of our meals and were very pleased with the food (better than on the Spirit). We celebrated our anniversary in the Mistral Restaurant which was excellent. Not so impressed by the food in the Kora La - the service was excellent in all the places we ate. Ports of call Bari Montenegro- There is a free port transfer bus to Bar - we then took a taxi to Stari Bar. It cost 5€ agree the price first. Stari Bar is no Kotor but still worth a visit. Korcula - tender port. Lovely old town - birth place of Marco Polo. We went for a wine tasting in a local restaurant- god wine but very expensive. It seems that most wine is produced for local consumption only. Zadar - ship to town transfer costs £7 - drop off near the Sea Organ. Lovely town with Roman ruins and great atmosphere. Venice - Get up foe the sail in - it is so peaceful and the only time you see Venicecwithout the masses. There was no organised transfer to St Marks Square but possible to buy tickets for transfer once off the ship. We realise that there appears to be a hop on hop off water bus that may be worth using. We used the People carrier to take us to P le Roma near the Station. We made a mistake of getting a gondola from here. It costs €80 but not the most picturesque trip. Walk further on - there are plenty of gondola’s around in better settings. We followed the signs to the Rialto bridge. The streets/canals up unti this point are relatively quiet. We then visited St Marks Square. We have visited Venice before so wouldn’t have bothered visiting again as it is always heaving but our friends have not visited before. I would strongly suggest pre booking St Marks or Doge’s palace and trip to Guggenheim art gallery.Eat anywhere away from St Marks or Rialto. Trieste - short walk from ship to main shopping area. Hike up to the castle and church well worth it. Public transport runs up to the castle as well. Split - Diocletian palace and medieval town within is amazing - very game of thrones. Well worth a visit. Dubrovnik - We visited Dubrovnik at night on a sunset trip from Kolocep. We sailed into the old harbour - it was a fabulous trip. For those who are only cruising - the ship doesn’t sail till 10 pm so if you have the energy and inclination get the bus to the Pile gate and spend late afternoon/early evening there before she sails. We have been on the celebration before so we knew what the ship was like. We flew from Gatwick on the Dreamliner which arrived in Dubrovnik early. Dubrovnik is called a 'bonded' airport which means we checked our luggage in as normal at Gatwick and the next time we saw it was outside our cabin. A fantastic service and it was the same on the return trip. We had a de-luxe cabin on deck 7 which had 2 large picture windows, a bath and shower, loads of space, 2 single beds and a sofa. It was as usual kept spotlessly clean by the 2 cabin staff. The ship was completely full and was adult only, we booked early so got the drinks package free. There were plenty of waiters both in bars and around the ship ( unlike the discovery last year where it was lacking in waiters) The food in all restaurants was of a good standard, the shows in the show lounge were excellent as were all the staff around the ship. We didn't go on any shore excursions we just did our own thing walking around every port of call. Its a shame the old girl is going but she is now showing her age. Read Less

We sailed on the Thomson Celebration from September 29 - October 5 on the Eastern Mediterranean trip. It was our first-ever cruise so we were pretty green and did not have anything to compare it with. First impressions were good, embarkation no problem and our deluxe cabin 136 was much larger than we imagined it would be. Enjoyed first day walk excursion in Dubrovnik, taking in cable car and the extremely busy walled city. Next day was Athens, what a dump and a miserable courier. Glad to get back but not so happy with the sickness and diarrhea bug (norovirus warning had greeted us in cabin on arrival) that struck me almost immediately. Called the doctor and he gave injection and confined both myself and my partner to the cabin. Next day was miserable sitting on bed most of the time - glad we had a window - and missed booked excursion to Itea. We were released from cabin late that evening as I had recovered sufficiently so were okay for Corfu Town trip next day. Enjoyed that, taking boat ride around the caves and a winding coach journey up to an impressive vantage point at a local restaurant Looking forward to Montenegro excursion the next day but hopes dashed when partner went down with the bug the previous evening. Given the jab by the doc and confined to cabin, I was allowed out but had to stay on ship. I did go out on deck early in the morning as the ship moved in through the fjords, impressive. On each occasion the doctor said he would hand our unused excursion tickets to reception and apparently if you book them on the ship you are reimbursed immediately, but we booked ours in our local Thomson shop prior to departure. Reception told us refunds would take 7-14 days paid on the card on which they were issued. That time passed and no money had arrived, so I complained and Thomson stated they would deal with the issue within 28 days of my contact email. What great PR. We revisited our local shop in an attempt to expedite the matter and were told the Montenegro refund had been issued - the problem was nobody had told us and it certainly was not in our bank account. As to the Itea payment the shop managed to ascertain that the matter was under investigation but were unable to reveal any more as the 'investigators' refused to release any further details. No further contact so far. What a farce. Are they saying we are lying? We booked five trips on five days at a cost of £360 which would suggest we intended to enjoy as much of the holiday as possible. Surely they only have to check the ship's medical records to find the truth - presumably these would include details of injections, confinement to cabin etc. If not somebody was sadly lacking in their duty. In future on cruises we will certainly heed the advice of a senior member of crew - avoid the self service area whenever possible and eat in the main restaurants. A final word for the staff - apart from the reception desk which was hopeless in most cases they were excellent and our cabin steward Mustaffah was a real star. Read Less

Adriatic Affair/Taste of The Adriatic.September 8th to 22nd. Embarkation good, cases outside our cabin very quickly. If you want a peaceful secluded cabin without any corridor noise from other guests I can recommend number 51 on Deck 8 Plenty of drawer /wardrobe space. Large double bed, Sofa and small Table. Cabin kept spotlessly clean by Jaya. No problems with Shower etc, hot water at all times. However from the moment one steps on board Thomson's Money Making Machine is activated so keep your hands on your wallets unless you want to be faced with an extremely heavy bill at the end. Many services which used to be complimentary are now chargeable.Every demonstration etc is geared up to relieve you of your hard earned cash. We dined in The Meridian restaurant most nights and the food in general was good. We did not experience long queues and our waiter (No name mentioned) always saved us a table for two. The food in the Lido was good with something to suit all tastes and an excellent salad bar. The shows were first class and the team consisted of some very strong voices.Excursions were expensive and the majority not worth the money. Check out the local busses when possible .All the staff were polite and .pleasant.Disembarkation very good till we arrived at the airport. Then we were informed our flight would be four hours late departing.,so we all lined up like cattle for a small drinks voucher. After travelling with Thomson for many years not once have we been given any incentive to carry on with them, so right now I feel it is time to say Bye Bye Thomson and spend our money with another cruise line. This was our first cruise and we chose Thomson for its varied destinations that were on our 'bucket list' and many of the places didn't disappoint. Venice, Dubrovnik and Kotor were our highlights. We flew out to Dubrovnik from Manchester airport and were impressed that on check in we were informed we didn't need to collect our luggage in Dubrovnik airport as it would be transported straight to our cabin for us. We arrived in Dubrovnik after a short transfer from the airport and after a quick and smooth embarkation and check in we were able to access our cabin straight away. Our cabin steward Ahmed couldn't do enough to please us and was friendly and reliable all through our stay. Our cabin was an outside cabin on the bottom deck. It was big enough for us as it was just somewhere to sleep. If you want luxurious and spacious I would suggest upgrading your cabin beforehand. We ventured out into Dubrovnik to explore what it had to offer as we were spending a further two days there later on in the cruise. When we returned to the ship our cases had arrived in time for the safety drill- the drill was handled professionally and was very clearly delivered. We explored the ship and although small we preferred this as we could move round easily and learn the layout. There were a limited but varied choice of bars and the a la carte dining was just that. The main dining room, buffet and terrace were always busy but the quality of the food across the whole ship excelled our expectations. Being a younger couple on the ship (28 and 29) the entertainment wasn't really for us- a little too social club/butlins style but the majority of the ship seemed to enjoy it. We spent most of our time in the casino where the staff were amazing! A special shout out to Julie on the tables and Ali on the bar who both made our cruise so much more enjoyable! The crew on board really are a credit to the ship and if you are looking for a personal touch you won't be disappointed. They are always happy to help and we enjoyed some great banter with them. This is a huge strength of the ship. We were pleased with the excursions offered although pricey you pay for the convenience and we don't regret doing the tours we did especially Predjama castle and Postojna caves from the port of Trieste and the Plantaze vineyard wine tour in Bar. The destination services team are more than happy to help with enquires and I would suggest booking early on the trips you know you want to go on as the most popular get booked up. We spent some time in the gym and also visited the spa and shops on board. All of which has just enough to offer. Look out for the nights where the shops have special events or discounts before you buy. The spa and a la carte restaurants also have offers on too. During our stay on board there were a few small niggles that stop this ship being marked 5/5. The drainage had some issues but the maintenance team on board couldn't work any harder! They were out and about at all hours sorting things out. The ship is dated but it is an older ship so to be expected- they were painting, varnishing and replacing carpets all whilst we were on board and this shows they value the appearance of the ship. There weren't enough sun beds on the at sea days especially but the staff kept on top of those reserving beds for any length of time and removed their belongings to allow others to get a bed. We weren't too bothered about using the pools but they are on the small side. Most ports had the option of a beach though so we went swimming there. The wifi came at a cost which was a bit cheeky and also the all inclusive package had supplements for branded whiskey and beer which we also felt was unecessary when we had paid a sufficient amount of money already. Overall if you are looking for a cruise that travels to a variety of beautiful places, has excellent cleanliness standards, friendly and hardworking staff and delicious food this is the ship for you. If you are looking for a ship that is modern, state of the art and has lots of lively entertainment with top class on board facilities because you don't want to venture off the ship then this probably isn't for you. At the end of the day it's about what you want out of the holiday and for us this was more than what we needed. Thanks to all the staff and crew for a lovely fortnight away! We aren't the easiest of people to please and are well travelled so this review shows how much we enjoyed ourselves onboard this ship. Read Less

Loved the itinerary and overall have always loved Thomson ships but this was the first time on The Celebration and in our opinion it was not up to the standard of The dream and even the old Destiny fared better. The staff are amazing and certainly no bad words about them. It almost seems to be be a ship which is being used as a 'training' ship and through no fault of the staff the service was sometimes poor. Food was generally good and we had the drinks package which also was good with plenty of choice. As always the entertainment was excellent and the show teams work so hard and the standard was very good. Ports of call were excellent and we visited most of the stops ourselves using local transport wherever possible which was very cheap. We have already booked on The Spirit next year because once again of the itinerary and hopefully will continue to book Thomson for the overall friendliness of their ships, we have tried the bigger companies but always come back to Thomson. We chose The Celebration again this year for the itinerary ( we did a week sailing from Dubrovnik last year) & wanted to go to Venice & Rovinj this time & were more than happy to go back to Hvar again. Have to say Rovinj & Hvar were are favourite ports. It's so much nicer tendering at sea & waking up to sparking seas, than the working port of Bar (for instance),which wasn't a patch on Kotor last year, but then I understand it's new stop for cruise ships,so maybe in a few years time it no doubt will be different. It's a shame that the last stop is the weakess. After a good flight & quick transfer to the port we were unfortunately all slightly let down by the fact that coach loads of passengers were were made sit on our coaches for at least an hour before we even got in to the terminal building,we when had to wait again to get on the ship & then once on the ship we had to all queue up again to have our photos taken & credit cards etc registered. The staff tried saying it was due to extra security measures implimented after recent bombings & that it was due to bags having to be scanned again!. Personally think it has more to do with the fact that Thompson had too many flights arriving all at the same time, hence too many passengers to process all at the same time( & not long after passengers have disembarked. Perhaps they should consider staggering the flights as they clearly couldn't cope that day, & when you have coach loads of tired passengers who have all been up half the night for early flights people are bound to get stressed. However once on board it was lovely to see many familiar faces from last year, the staff really are the thing that make The Celebration so special, they all work so hard & are always so pleasant & friendly & a credit to the company. Special mention for Matias( barman in Hemingsways),last year he was in Horizons. He always has a smile & cheery word & goes out of his way to be helpful & he makes a mean Singapour Sling. It was also lovely to see the smiley face of William the waiter again this year, having seen him twice previously on the Dream. Should also give a mention to the very talented Male Rep from Leeds( sorry I can't remember his name),who amazed & astounded us all by singing opera as we sailed out of Venice,it made the sail away truly memorable!. Nice touch now being able to have a glass of Prosecco (all inclusive) as you sail away. Read Less

My old dad who was in the royal and merchant navy would have described this as an old rust bucket. It looks old and dated and it is. Thomson are clever with their words by saying how long they have had it but its over 30 years old. It shakes and rattles even in port, to the point we had to wedge all the doors inside the cabin. The cruise itself i.e. Destinations was fine although some of the excursions were a bit laboured. The staff were very good and friendly also the food was good but the main restaurant was a bit like a works canteen. We were in the most expensive suite and that was only just big enough. We also had the inclusive drinks package but when on board was talked in to buying an upgrade. Unbelievable this didn't include fresh orange juice (only after 10.30). It was our first cruise and possible our last. Read Less

There were four of us in our party all 70+. We choose this cruise due to the fact that we had been on the Celebration several times before and also for the itinerary, (and the sun of course)!! We received a fantastic welcome from staff who had known us previously, particularly Chima, the Restaurant Manager, who never fails to impress us with his organisational skills. We were shown to a table for four and we had the same table for the two weeks. Our waiters, Vikas and Simca where super - first class service. Also Nedroyd our Wine Stewart kept our glasses full and entertained us at the same time! We also met up with Benjamin, who is now a Head Waiter as well as a fabulous singer. We met each night in Horizons before Dinner, where Carol and Jefferson gave excellent service and were so welcoming. We dined in the Meridian Restaurant each evening and had our lunch and breakfast in the Lido, where Artur, in his own quiet way was friendly and efficient. The food was up to the usual standard, varied and well presented. We were pleased that Stewart, the Executive Chef was still in charge, he should be proud of the standard of food produced. Our cabins were kept spotless by Addi. The entertainment was as good as ever. Now for the negatives - We like to sunbathe on the sun deck at the front of the ship, but were a bit annoyed that due to a Champagne Sailaway (costing £13.95) this deck was closed off for five hours prior to sailing from Kotor, and on the day we sailed from Venice, due a high winds this Sailaway took place in Horizons which again was closed off. We do feel that Thomsons are slowly introducing charges that they did not do before. For example a waiter came round each day trying to get us to book the A la Carte Restaurants. We tried Mistrals last year, but did no think it was worth the money. Apart from that The Celebration, although now a "Grand Old Lady" (in the words of the Captain) is still a wonderful friendly ship, with super staff. We are sorry she is sailing from UK next year, as we are sun worshippers, but who knows! Read Less

Having already cruised on the Thompsom Majesty last year we were expecting another great experience on the Celebration but unfortunately some much of the cruise was a disappointment. There were some good parts like the quality of service and the entertainment team were excellent. The ports were mixed with Sibenik and Bari a complete let down for various reasons. The highlight was Venice which was spoiled by the long walk from the ship to he exit. This was very difficult for people with walking difficulty like myself, all the other cruise ships in the port provided shuttle buses but not Thompson's. My main disappointment was the food, on the Majesty the food was a major part of our enjoyment with a great selection every night. The Celebration was the opposite with poor selection and the temperature of the food at times being lukewarm or some being over salted. One day they had problems with a generator and some of the food was actually cold, when we complained to the Buffet Manager he actually admitted that due to the generator problem they were unable to heat the food properly and if we went now the food would be hotter, I could not understand why they put out cold food and did not delay the service. We were supposed to receive an email within 48 hours of our return with a comments card but so far there is no sign of this. A sceptic would wonder that with our complaints to the buffet staff they decided not to send one. We will not let our experience stop us cruising with Thompson but not on the Celebration. Read Less

We did the Adriatic Wonders cruise and we were in cabin 338 on Deck 4. Thomson's have changed their baggage handling procedure and it is very successful. We had checked in on line prior to departure, and when we arrived at Birmingham airport, we were directed to a dedicated bag drop. There, a Thomson rep gave us labels with our cabin number on put on our cases. After dropping the bags, we didn't see them again until they were delivered to our cabin. No more identifying your bags on the quayside or off the coach. We had great weather all week except for the night we were supposed to leave Venice. Strong gales were forecast where we were going, so we stayed in Venice overight, and left at 15.00 the next day. The food was up to Celebrations usual high standard in both the Lido and in the Meridian restaurants. The entertainment in the Broadway was some of the best I have seen on a cruise ship. Leaving the ship, we were issued with airline tags to put on the cases. They were collected from outside the cabin and we picked them up from Birmingham airport. This was our 6th cruise on Celebration. She is old, but like a pair of slippers just comfortable. Read Less
