Just returned from this cruise. We booked this for several reasons, a late cruise, visiting Sicily and Kefalonia, adults only, all on the fabulous Celebration, in my opinion, Thomson’s/Marella’s best ship. The ships specification is well documented on the Internet so I won’t go into the details, suffice to say, the food, entertainment, information, cabin service, bar service and so on were all of a very high standard. The pre-booked excursion tickets were waiting for us in our cabin on embarkation and the embarkation and disembarkation procedures were incredibly slick, including the experience of parting with your luggage at East Midlands airport and not seeing it again until it arrived outside your cabin, without having to collect it at Dubrovnik airport. The same procedure (in reverse of course) on the return home. That’s progress. I few points about the ports of call. Messina, Sicily - a nice place but not a lot to do if you arrive on a Sunday so it may be worth booking a trip. Argostoli, Kefalonia - again, a pretty town but a bit sleepy. Worth having a walk along the front and across the causeway (which leads to the other side of the bay). Igoumenitsa, Greece - this is a port town, with ferries to Corfu and beyond. It has little historical interest. The Marella map shows a castle but all we found was a church, something that may have been lost in the translation? We actually booked a tour to Nekromanteio which is steeped in Greek mythology if you like that sort of thing, then onto the postcard-perfect village of Parga, and it really is very pretty. Not enough for us for a whole day but a couple of hours is perfect to climb up to the castle and take in the views. Kotor, Montenegro - this is a quaint but bustling town. Check beforehand how many ships are in on the day and it will give you an idea as to how busy it will be. There are loads of options for tours, including private taxi’s and hop-on, hop-off busses. As we had been before we did our own thing. I took on the challenge of climbing up to the fortress Castle of San Giovanni, approximately 1,200 metres high and approximately 1,350 steps to climb to reach the castle. €8 for the privilege and it is a seriously long climb, over uneven (and sometimes missing) stone steps, or, in parts, a steep slope. The view at the top is fantastic and worth the pull on your calf muscles and hamstrings for the next couple of days. In general, as we went in October, the on shore tour options may not all have been present as this is right at the end of the season. If you go earlier in the year, there may be more available. In summary, this is not an itinerary that jumps out at you. The is no “Venice” or Barcelona”, but the cruise does visit some quaint, pretty and interesting places, many with stunning scenery (the bay of Kotor in particular). Couple this up with the magnificent Celebration cruise ship and add in the food, drinks, entertainment, the attentive, hard working staff and being able to meet like minded people, this all equates to a complete cruise experience. I would wholeheartedly recommend this cruise to any prospective cruiser. Read Less

We have been on the celebration before so we knew what to expect. We flew from Gatwick on the Dreamliner and the self service check -in took about 5 mins. with no queuing. The plane arrived early and we were swiftly driven by coach to the cruise terminal. The check in for the cruise was different this year as it was done on the ship with no queuing at all. Our cases arrived outside our cabin within 20 mins. The Celebration still has its slight wobble but it did not affect us at all. Our cabin was a de-luxe on deck 8, very spacious with large double bed under the 2 windows, settee, chairs, bath with shower over it and spotlessly clean and kept that way by our cabin steward all week. We ate in the Lido (self service) for breakfast and lunch, and in the main dining room for evening dinner. Sometimes there were queues to get in but they moved very quickly and we only waited for 10 mins. at the most. The food in all the eating places was very good with quick service. We eat in Minstralls on one night and it was well worth the extra money. We went to the shows every evening which were good, and one night there was a comedian who was excellent, he did a further show at 11.30pm later in the week. It was an adults only cruise. We got off at every port we stopped at and just walked around and did our own thing except for Venice where we went on the island of Marano and Buarno trip which was very interesting. We were not asked at all to buy drinks packages, photos, spa treatments, etc. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we have already booked the Celebration again for next year. Read Less

My friend and I chose this cruise because it was affordable and went to places we hadn’t been to before. From the moment we handed over our suitcases at Gatwick we couldn’t fault the service we received. Neither of us had been on a sea cruise before so I admit we have nothing to compare it to but we both really enjoyed the whole experience. We liked the ship; some bits felt a bit tired but no more so than some hotels I’ve been to. The cabin (644 on deck 2) was fine. It was spacious enough for the 2 of us and there was plenty of storage space. It had a porthole which gave us a lovely view if the passing scenery. Everything was immaculately clean. We ate breakfast and lunch/ afternoon tea in the Lido buffet and our evening meal in the Meridien restaurant. The choice at all meals was really varied, designed to suit all tastes. Everything was well presented and tasty. The service from all the staff was impeccable. We went on excursions in Montenegro, Greece, Kefalonia, Sicily and Malta and really enjoyed them. Our couriers were all knowledgeable and made the trips special, even the Etna trip which took place in pouring rain. The entertainment in the evening was eclectic, from piano playing, to the shows and quizzes. We went to the shows in the Broadway Lounge and enjoyed them also; some were better than others. Martin Daniels, the comedy magician was brilliant and had us in stitches. During the day at sea we tried out some of the on-board activities like dancing and carpet bowls, again good fun and made enjoyable by the crew taking them. Everything was well organised, from arrival to departure, with coaches arriving on time and suitcases arriving safely. We would definitely go again. Read Less

We have cruised regularly on Thomson (TUI - Marella) and Cunard. We finally persuaded our friends to join us. The Marella Celebration itinerary was excellent as it included Venice, Dubrovnik and Korcular. Some of our favourite places. Marella is less formal than Cunard, uses Sterling and had a great all inclusive deal when we booked. We did a cruise and stay holiday staying on the island of Kolocep just 30 mins from Dubrovnik. This was our first time on the Celebration but we knew her sister ship, the Spirit very well. Our first impressions were very favourable as though the deck layout is almost identical there is a much more modern feel to the Celebration - less vestiges of her Holland America past. The main dining room food was excellent - we ate all our meals there as it’s so much relaxed experience than the Lido. The included drinks were good enough for the most of us though one of our friends who deals in wine thought the Cote de Rhône to be excellent and good value for money. There were no sea days on this cruise - and I do miss a good sea day to relax. I think all that can be said about the age of the ship has been said before. I love the teak decks and the fact she is easy to get around. What gives this ship her heart are the people who work on it, the value for money and the entertainment. We would certainly return if it was the right itinerary. A first for TUI Marella is a welcome back party for loyal cruisers. You have to go to reception to let them know you have cruised with Thomsons before to be eligible. Cunard contact you and know your status - so me thinks Thomson’s weren’t keeping this info. We even received a little badge! We really found no fault with anything on the ship apart from the embarkation process that takes place on the ship - Long long queues We always choose our cabins after studying the deck plan as we like to be central and not near noisy areas. I do think a deck plan should be given out at departure - like other cruise lines. We knew the layout but our friends hadn’t cruised before. The cabin numbers and decks don’t tally. We were on deck 8 bridge deck but cabin 075. Dining - we dined in the Meridian for most of our meals and were very pleased with the food (better than on the Spirit). We celebrated our anniversary in the Mistral Restaurant which was excellent. Not so impressed by the food in the Kora La - the service was excellent in all the places we ate. Ports of call Bari Montenegro- There is a free port transfer bus to Bar - we then took a taxi to Stari Bar. It cost 5€ agree the price first. Stari Bar is no Kotor but still worth a visit. Korcula - tender port. Lovely old town - birth place of Marco Polo. We went for a wine tasting in a local restaurant- god wine but very expensive. It seems that most wine is produced for local consumption only. Zadar - ship to town transfer costs £7 - drop off near the Sea Organ. Lovely town with Roman ruins and great atmosphere. Venice - Get up foe the sail in - it is so peaceful and the only time you see Venicecwithout the masses. There was no organised transfer to St Marks Square but possible to buy tickets for transfer once off the ship. We realise that there appears to be a hop on hop off water bus that may be worth using. We used the People carrier to take us to P le Roma near the Station. We made a mistake of getting a gondola from here. It costs €80 but not the most picturesque trip. Walk further on - there are plenty of gondola’s around in better settings. We followed the signs to the Rialto bridge. The streets/canals up unti this point are relatively quiet. We then visited St Marks Square. We have visited Venice before so wouldn’t have bothered visiting again as it is always heaving but our friends have not visited before. I would strongly suggest pre booking St Marks or Doge’s palace and trip to Guggenheim art gallery.Eat anywhere away from St Marks or Rialto. Trieste - short walk from ship to main shopping area. Hike up to the castle and church well worth it. Public transport runs up to the castle as well. Split - Diocletian palace and medieval town within is amazing - very game of thrones. Well worth a visit. Dubrovnik - We visited Dubrovnik at night on a sunset trip from Kolocep. We sailed into the old harbour - it was a fabulous trip. For those who are only cruising - the ship doesn’t sail till 10 pm so if you have the energy and inclination get the bus to the Pile gate and spend late afternoon/early evening there before she sails. My husband and I did this cruise as first time cruisers. I was never going on a cruise for a variety of reasons and chose this one because it was in the Adriatic Sea which isn’t as wide open as others so my theory was it may be calmer as sea sickness was a big concern. I also wanted to go to places I hadn’t been before and the only place I would be revisiting was Venice, which was fine as you can never visit Venice too many times. I had read that there is vibration in the ship and there is! We had an inside cabin on deck 3 and we could feel vibration but it didn’t affect us at all, we both slept well and did not feel any movement from the ship. There was no natural light in the cabin as it was an inside one but we weren’t in there much. For a longer cruise I would probably like a porthole at least. The air conditioning was good and the cabin didn’t feel at all stuffy. It was small but adequate. Ivon, our cabin steward was always available and very pleasant. We didn’t buy the drinks package and this was the right choice for us, we had whatever we wanted and it still cost around half of what the package would have been, however, we don’t drink alcohol so this may have made a difference. The food was good, we always had our evening meal in Meridian as I like to be waited on. The menu was changed every day and there was always something we liked. The waiters were very attentive, sometimes we shared a table but we didn’t have to, you can request your own and wait a few minutes for one to become free. We had breakfast and lunch in the Lido restaurant and again the food was good and plates were cleared quickly. The pool areas were clean and we could always find a sunbed when we wanted, even on the day at sea. Entertainment was of a good standard but you could find a quiet area if you wanted to. We enjoyed all of the ports, the only disappointment was that we visited Ancona on a Sunday and as it’s in Italy it was pretty much closed. However you have to go somewhere on a Sunday and we found enough to occupy us. I am now almost converted, I didn’t love cruising in the way a lot of people do! But I will go on another cruise and would go on the celebration again if it was a cruise I wanted to do. All together we were very satisfied. Read Less

My Wife and I have been cruising for many years on Royal Caribbean, Princess and P and O.We decided to go on the Marella Celebration because of the itinerary. We booked a Balcony cabin and were delighted with the size of the room. They staff were the friendliest we have ever had on board a ship always smiling and friendly everyone of them that passed you said hello from the ships officers to painters . The reception staff were so pleasant and helpful rather than the stuffy approach we have experienced on other ships. Embarking the ship was really easy we were in our Cabin in minutes and our cases arrived within 30 minutes not the normal 4 hour wait. The all inclusive package had a good choice of lager beer and Cider with top shelf spirits not watered down as we have read on previous reviews, the drinks were so good we did not have to upgrade to the premium package. The food in the restaurants was excellent and the service could not be faulted, the buffet restaurant always had fresh supplies of food. We also visited the Asian restaurant this was as good as any Indian restaurant we have visited in the UK. The entertainment was superb with some of the best singers we have seen when cruising. We will certainly be cruising with Marella in the future. Read Less

The whole experience from start to finish was made simple for us we dropped our bags off at the airport and then was reunited with them on the ship , twice-A-Day the housekeeping staff would make up the room and leave a wonderful towel animal on the bed , there was plenty of choice of food to eat with menu that changed every day and three à la cart restaurants to eating at a slight additional cost which were all very good , The entertainment was fantastic really enjoyed the quizzes and the stand-up comedian . Overall I couldn’t ask for more I would like to thank staff and crew for fantastic time Read Less

We have been on the celebration before so we knew what the ship was like. We flew from Gatwick on the Dreamliner which arrived in Dubrovnik early. Dubrovnik is called a 'bonded' airport which means we checked our luggage in as normal at Gatwick and the next time we saw it was outside our cabin. A fantastic service and it was the same on the return trip. We had a de-luxe cabin on deck 7 which had 2 large picture windows, a bath and shower, loads of space, 2 single beds and a sofa. It was as usual kept spotlessly clean by the 2 cabin staff. The ship was completely full and was adult only, we booked early so got the drinks package free. There were plenty of waiters both in bars and around the ship ( unlike the discovery last year where it was lacking in waiters) The food in all restaurants was of a good standard, the shows in the show lounge were excellent as were all the staff around the ship. We didn't go on any shore excursions we just did our own thing walking around every port of call. Its a shame the old girl is going but she is now showing her age. Read Less

Price was good and all the destinations were places we had never visited before. We had a previous cruise on The Dream 5 years ago and it was brilliant. Ship lovely ,clean and so well organized. Melvin our cabin stewart did everything he could to keep our cabin perfect. Not a crease in the sheets. Night wear folded perfectly and lovely towel sculptures every day. Brill and so so friendly and always happy. The dining is brilliant. In the main restaurant the staff can not do enough to please. They work so hard and long hours. Always clean, smart and the food is like eating in a 5 star restaurant . The self service is just as top class, no complaints at all.The same can be said in the bars. All the staff are so efficient ,friendly and all seem happy in their jobs. Entertainment is also top class and although some games etc. may sound silly we had lots of laughs. Loved Debrovnik which we did ourselves but very busy with tourists. Greek main land had a lot of graffiti and rubbish and trip to canal and ruins was rushed, No time for drink to cool us down. Enjoyed bike ride in Itea which was brilliant and the rest of my party did Itea and Delphi themselves ,also good but Itea also had a lot of graffiti and rubbish when not on the front. Loved Montenegro the most beautiful place I have visited and the trip was brilliant too . Very clean and peaceful place. Corfu we also did ourselves but also a lot of graffiti and litter. Cruising is brilliant if you havn't already tried it have a go. We spoke to a lot of people who have been on other companies ships and they prefer Thompsons smaller ships as too much queuing in the bigger ships and too big to fin their way around if only on for a week. The celebration was a beautiful lady ship staff could not help you enough and were very friendly. Passengers were relaxed and lovely to talk to. It was brilliant to sit at a table with different people every night. We enjoyed our excursions that we booked at the travel agent only one trip we missed out on due to the lack of interest. But no problem getting our money back. The only thing that I would say is that the photographs that we had done had a very dark background and that some of the staff taking the photographs should have more experience of taking them as some were poor quality. The food on the ship was lovely. We paid for the extra dining and it was worth the extra money. The entertainment was brilliant and we enjoyed watching it every night. Read Less

Our cabin was very clean and our steward was very helpful as were the reception team when we had any queries. Being a vegetarian I was very pleased to find that there was plenty of variety for me to eat. The staff in both the restaurant and the buffet worked really hard and the tables were cleared very quickly and with great efficiency and always with a smile. The entertainment was the best I have experienced on a cruise and we enjoyed every performance as did other passengers as there were frequently standing ovations. We enjoyed the excursions and the guides were very knowledgeable and extremely helpful to those who were handicapped. Having read other comments about this cruise I am surprised that we were on the same ship as the comments were so negative. We sat with different people every night in the dining room and none of them had any complaints. The flights on the Dreamliner were very comfortable with plenty of leg room. All in all a very good experience my only complaint is that my face aches from so much smiling, tne crew are a wonderfully friendly group and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the 'Celebration' Read Less

The comedian was a bit rubbish though! The gameshows in the Libertys lounge were good fun, Holly the senior entertainment host was excellent, very funny and entertaining. The ports of call were delightful, especially Korcula and Venice. Yes the ship is a bit old and rattly but this is made up by the friendly family feel, we were at the front of the ship so had some anchor noise in the morning lasting for approx 30 minutes although it is possible to request a cabin for a small charge. This was the first time we had ever done a cruise and loved it. I have read the reviews on here and i'm sorry but i've never read so many people twist on about small things. If you want perfection go and stay in a 5* plus hotel somewhere. The whole experience for us was really good. Yes the ship isn't the most up to date and modern like the big P&0 or Royal Caribbean but then your not paying thousand of pounds to be just a number in 1000's of passengers. We found this cruise excellent, friendly and everyone we spoke to was enjoying it and the staff are there to help you with anything. We were advised to start on a smaller thomson cruise which was more relaxed and laid back. We chose an adult only cruise and there isn't anything i can fault.. Yes the ship was a bit jiddery at times but nothing major. This ship was full, it was early august so a peak holiday time yet we never had a problem getting a sunbed at any time of the day, even after coming back late from a day in port there was always beds free. There was also a spa and a good gym. The meals were fabulous, if you cannot find anything to eat on that ship you are far to picky. The food was first class and better than some expensive hotels i've stayed in. There was were many different restaurants, self service, thai, grill bar etc. The staff were so friendly and helpful and deserve gold stars as they never stopped cleaning. Our room was on the seventh floor and was spotless everyday. We were over the top of one of the bars so had a bit of noise from time to time but it stopped quite early so we had no problem getting to sleep There was many different types of entertainment to cater for all needs, cabaret, disco, quizzes, auctions, bingo, whatever takes your fancy. For me from the moment we started our holiday to getting on the ship etc we were well looked after and enjoyed every minute of it. We are definatly going to book another Cruise next year and if thomson do a one we like we will try them again regardless of what ship. The Celebration for me is a lovely ship and we had a fabulous time i assume all ships as do Hotels have issues from time to time but for me we couldn't fault this ship at all. i thinks sometimes people can take to much advice of people on these sites and should just go and experience it yourself. Having reluctantly returned home from Celebration yesterday, my review is: Flights and transfers to/from ship = excellent. As part of his, seamless luggage transfers too after leaving them at Manchester to the ship, and vice versa. Room on deck 3 = excellent. Regularly turned down and room cleaned several times per day by Aldrin. Food in both meridian and lido = excellent. Service was comparable too. This applied to all 3 specialist restaurants too. The staff = excellent. All of them couldn't do enough to help. Entertainment by show team = excellent. Superb talent, dedication and passion. Excursions = very good. Only gripe here was beach transfer on island of Corfu. This is sandy yes, but in the water, slippery rocks, which then turns back to sand out in the water. The beach itself was very nice. People/fellow passengers = very good. The whole majority of people we're very nice, with the odd minority of aspirants turning their noses up just to say they'd been on a cruise. My other main gripe was hearing people having a moan about the standard of entertainment saying they're not west end style performers, and comparing to other larger cruise lines. Those performers gave their all, and deserve respect. I don't even think some west end musicians could fuse four songs together (musicals night) and make it work. If you want west end, then pay more and go with more pretentious cruise lines. And lastly, the dreaded sunded. If you're not going to use them, don't put towels on them. I was going to be taking them off, but my wife unfortunately spoke reason to me. Read Less

A bit of background: party of 6, me & DH (50s), brother & sis-in-law (50s) and my parents (active 79 & 83). All have cruised before - we have sailed with Cunard, Thomsons, P&O, Bro & sis only Thomsons and parents with a number of lines but never Thomsons. We chose the Adriatic because of the itinerary & Thomsons because of the bike tour options and the price & flights were good for all of us. We flew from Manchester, early flight and were on-board within 1 hour of landing. I liked the chilled juice & water available while we waited to check in, especially as it was very hot even at 10.15am. Cabin (outside, deck 2) - decent size, kept very clean (although we had an issue with slow drainage from the shower), excellent air-con which we appreciated as it reached 35C on one day, very comfortable bed. Yes, the paint needs refreshing in some areas and the mirror needs re-silvering at the base but there is loads of wardrobe space - 1 each and plenty of bathroom storage space. We liked the location as although the gangway on deck 2 was used for getting on and off the ship, we heard very little noise, but it was convenient for dropping our gear off as soon as we got back on the ship. Would choose the same cabin again. Food - very very good. I like my food, it's an important part of the holiday. We had breakfast in the Lido every day, or to be exact, the Lido and the outside Grill area. The omelette station out there was a bonus, perfectly cooked tasty omelettes each time. The fresh fruit selection in the Lido was also good and there were different cereals and yoghurts. I had 1 ‘full English’ and again it was all hot, tasty and well-cooked. Lunch was either in the Lido, or off the ship. Plenty of choice, fresh salads, wok station, pasta station, other hot dishes and the Lido Grill where there were pizzas, burgers, hot-dogs. Ice-cream was available at lunchtime and in the evening. Mum & Dad had breakfast & lunch in the main dining room a couple of times and said it was good. Afternoon tea - had this a couple of times, tasty sandwiches, delicious warm mini sausage rolls and lovely biscuits as well as scones with jam and cream, and cakes and pastries. Dinner - we ate in the main dining room each night, except once when DH & I went to Mistral. On the first night we got a round table for 6 and managed to get that table each night - we tended to eat a bit earlier than the main rush - arriving about 6.45 - 7.15. We did notice it got busy about 8pm with a short queues, but everyone was seated fairly quickly. Our waiters, Juni & Karmala were brilliant, friendly, efficient and to be honest, made dinner a pleasure. Karmala always made a big fuss of mum! Our wine waiter was Nikola and he was also excellent. There was always plenty of choice and apart from 1 night when mum’s choice of fish was dry, everything was spot-on. Mistral - DH & I ate here 1 night. It was just under £20 pp and was amazing value. 5 courses, plus extra treats and outstanding quality. One of the best meals I’ve ever had on a ship. Lobster bisque, escargots, rack of lamb, surf & turf (fillet steak and a lobster tail). The menu changes part way through the week and we were very tempted to go again but resisted. Midnight buffet - managed this a couple of times! Always salads, cheese and biscuits, 2 curries (fab), and hot items like pizza, hotdogs, fish fingers, chicken strips. Drinks - we didn’t get the drinks package as it was full price when we booked. We didn’t skimp and it worked out cheaper for us than had we bought the package. They had some promotions on like 2 for 1 on Marston’s Pedigree, and we bought a 3-bottle wine package on the 2nd night. I noticed that the standard gin for my G&T was Gordons’ Export. Service in the bars was very good, especially Ida in the Horizon Bar, a lovely spot. The others in the group said the new coffee port was very good. We did 1 cycle tour in Corinth, which was good, though very hot. The rest of the time we did our own thing, catching the local buses outside the port or walking. Tip - we were overnight in Dubrovnik so went into town after dinner for a couple of hours, well worth doing. The taxis by the ship are 13euros, by the bus station 2 mins away they are 10euros and the bus (that is on the road outside the bus station) its 150Kuna - get the 1a or 1b to Pile. You use the same stop at Pile to return which is only 3 mins from the Gate into the old town. Entertainment - typical cruise shows but done well with a talented cast. I especially enjoyed the Cameron Mackintosh and the Africa ones. Didn’t go to the comedian but heard he was very good as well. Did some quizzes and a wine-tasting on the seaday (£7pp). Overall, an excellent week, exceptional service, great food, interesting stops and I’d happily go on the Celebration again, as would the Thomsons virgins Mum & Dad! Read Less

We chose The Celebration again this year for the itinerary ( we did a week sailing from Dubrovnik last year) & wanted to go to Venice & Rovinj this time & were more than happy to go back to Hvar again. Have to say Rovinj & Hvar were are favourite ports. It's so much nicer tendering at sea & waking up to sparking seas, than the working port of Bar (for instance),which wasn't a patch on Kotor last year, but then I understand it's new stop for cruise ships,so maybe in a few years time it no doubt will be different. It's a shame that the last stop is the weakess. After a good flight & quick transfer to the port we were unfortunately all slightly let down by the fact that coach loads of passengers were were made sit on our coaches for at least an hour before we even got in to the terminal building,we when had to wait again to get on the ship & then once on the ship we had to all queue up again to have our photos taken & credit cards etc registered. The staff tried saying it was due to extra security measures implimented after recent bombings & that it was due to bags having to be scanned again!. Personally think it has more to do with the fact that Thompson had too many flights arriving all at the same time, hence too many passengers to process all at the same time( & not long after passengers have disembarked. Perhaps they should consider staggering the flights as they clearly couldn't cope that day, & when you have coach loads of tired passengers who have all been up half the night for early flights people are bound to get stressed. However once on board it was lovely to see many familiar faces from last year, the staff really are the thing that make The Celebration so special, they all work so hard & are always so pleasant & friendly & a credit to the company. Special mention for Matias( barman in Hemingsways),last year he was in Horizons. He always has a smile & cheery word & goes out of his way to be helpful & he makes a mean Singapour Sling. It was also lovely to see the smiley face of William the waiter again this year, having seen him twice previously on the Dream. Should also give a mention to the very talented Male Rep from Leeds( sorry I can't remember his name),who amazed & astounded us all by singing opera as we sailed out of Venice,it made the sail away truly memorable!. Nice touch now being able to have a glass of Prosecco (all inclusive) as you sail away. Read Less

From airport to ship, everything went very smoothly,we embarked in Dubrovnik and as we had had a very early start we were delighted that our cabin was ready for us right away. Our steward Aldrin was lovely and so friendly as were all the staff on-board, in fact that will be our lasting memory of this cruise, we felt like we were part of a happy family. Our cabin (outside no 540) was superb, the standard of food in the self service and waiter service restaurants was excellent. We ate in the a la carte "mistral" on the evening of our 30th wedding anniversary ( fabulous), and were serenaded by a staff member which was really lovely. The entertainment on this ship was amazing, why some of these singers aren't on the west end is beyond me, absolutely superb! The comedian was very very good also. We didn't do many organised excursions as we like to explore ourselves but the ones we did were very good. We enjoyed the fact that this was an adult only cruise-we love kids but we have been there, done that, for many years with our own children and wanted a relaxing break. All in all we were very sad to leave this lovely old ship, and wish we could have done another week, however we are already looking at a Thomson cruise for next year. Read Less

Have cruised with Thomson before (Baltic on Spirit) and found it to be excellent value for money. Ships may be a bit older but they are very comfortable and the cabins have all had plenty of room. Had an outside deluxe this time which included a full bath. Entertainment excellent. The Show Team superb. Staff were always friendly smiling and helpful. Good selection of food in both restaurants. Seemed to be adequate number of sunbeds. Free Laundry facilities were a bonus, especially on a 2 week cruise. We did 2 x 1 week back to back. There was a small pool, we did not use. Spa is expensive, used it on changeover day at a reduced price.Excursions were varied. Well organized and good value. There was no pressure to buy extras. As I do not drink alcohol I do not like the policy of each person in the cabin having to buy the drinks package, but would be worth it if I did. My sister purchased a wine package. Will definitely go on another Thomson cruise, most people,we met on the ship had been on 5 or more and loved the smaller ships and friendlier atmosphere. This was an adult only cruise. Service overall was excellent. Read Less

This was our first cruise and we wanted to see places we had never been and enjoy a cruise experience, we were not disappointed the food was great as well a the entertainment, first class in every department. The staff on board were first class and could not do enough to help you, we even got an invite onto the Hotel Managers table on the captains night, apart from Venice we did our own trips every day, you can explore more, especially if you use a hop on hop off bus. Our cabin was on deck 3 and was adequate with enough room to manage, bearing in mind how little time you actually spend in it, we used the Meridian restaurant every night and the food was excellent with great service from our waiter to our wine waiter, never an empty glass. The evening shows have to be seen to be believed, a very high standard every night. Like I said it was our first cruise and since we got home we have booked 2 more already, life doesn't get better than this. Read Less

This was our first cruise, reading DFGstocktons ? review would put some people off, please ignore that review, Thomsons could not be blamed for the rain, and if all inclusive you still had 103 drinks to choose from. We thought everything from start to finish was first class. The entertainment was nothing short of brilliant as was the food and service, the staff could not do enough for you. Some people may say the ship is old, so what, we never queued for a meal and the ports were easily accessible on your own, we will certainly be on another cruise, we are hooked. Activities during the day were non stop and there were plenty of sun beds around the ship if wanted to laze around. The cabins were very clean and adaquate to suit our needs, we were on deck 3 and found everything within easy reach, we do feel that in this day and age that WIFI should be free all around the ship, but that is just a little winge nothing more. Thompsons are very efficient Cabin had a bit of a smell on first entering.......... but clean The Shows were of a very high standard and enjoyable BUT SO LOUD YOU VIBRATE> We all want to hear but can it be a little LOWER PLEASE. 1200 on the ship and the games room used quite a bit... why ONE scrabble board only??? Food excellent , waiters under pressure though. Room cleaning excellent The Lido restaurant too busy at breakfast and no seating on occasions, maybe because the food is Venice so wonderful, thanks to the captain telling us to go on deck 9 to see the sunset... an incredible experience. Just returned from the Adriatic Affair on The Celebration. First of all I would give the ship and its crew 100% for everything. The service, cleanliness, food, etc were all up to the mark. The Show Team were better than most TV so called stars. Singing and dancing were exceptional. The ship, like its sister The Spirit is getting on a bit. Its not a floating tower block with every fairground attraction like many modern cruise liners, but its friendly and looks like a proper ship. She like The Spirit does throb and vibrate a bit but you soon get used to that and has never bother us on the three times we have been on them both. The deluxe cabins on the Promenade Deck suit us and are roomy with lots of storage and comfy beds. Had a suite last trip. Not worth the extra cost in our opinion. So all in all I cant find anything to complain about on board. Now the not so good bits. The excursions. If you are disabled or have walking problems, be very careful what you book to go on. We booked an Easy Walking tour of Venice by boat. The actual tour was OK and we were collected off the ship, but due to Italian law we had to go back via passport control which meant being dropped off and a resulting walk that would take an able bodied person a good 10 to 15 minutes walk. This caused my wife and me, plus several other passengers great difficulties, and in one case the need for paramedics to attend. Thomson could have easily arranged a shuttle service from the water taxi drop off back to the passport control next to the ship. They new at least 3 days before we docked how far away it was going to be, but after lots of complaints claimed they didnt have enough notice to arrange this. I dont accept that at all. Another excursion stated as easy walking was the Korcula Riviera Cruise. A tour along a very small part of the Korcula Coast Line by a tour boat. This included two on shore stops. The first one involved quite a long walk into the town. Halfway there, two fit friends had gone ahead to check it out and came back to say "dont bother" nothing of interest. Second stop was for "refreshment" This meant a very long walk to a hotel. Made worse very rough unmade section of jetty making walking for anyone unstable a risky business, only to be served with a 3 centimeter slice of apple strudel and a small glass of weak orange. ( one wonders if the tour guides are on commission) Due to our slow progress we had to gulp down the "snack" before vacating the seats for the next tour party. We cancelled the next days excursion as by this time any more walking was out of the question until it came time to start the homeward journey. In our opinion the excursions are not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties. Particularly those with a guide as they do not wait for you. Thomson are totally reliant on the airport to provide passenger assistance. Dubrovnik was excellent in this area. Which is more than can be said for Birmingham Airport where it is to say the least "spasmodic" Going out it was non existent. The return was slightly better for my wife in a wheelchair but I had misjudged just how far it was to walk from the arrival gate and at one stage had a Border Force officer come to my aid as I was suffering with my breathing. Its not a case of complaining for the sake of it, but there is still a lack of understanding and support for people with disabilities when traveling. The two Thomson ships we have experienced are excellent in that respect as there is access to all public parts of the ship for wheelchair users, including reserved places in dining and theatre areas. Only the very top sun deck its served by a lift but is made up for by all the other sun decks. The final comment is onboard charges. Thomson seem to have upped the cost on many non inclusive services. Paying to use the self service laundry. Bad news. Expecting people to pay for a tour of the ship. Mean. All inclusive drinks packages are only good value if your a heavy drinker and excludes many branded spirits etc. Wines are way overpriced. Read Less

We thoroughly enjoyed our week on board Thomson Celebration and loved the itinerary. I chose this cruise mainly because it included Venice but we were also delighted with Croatia, especially Rovinj and Split. Undoubtedly the ship is quite old but it's far from shabby and as its on the small side you soon find your way around. Our inside cabin had twin beds and plenty of storage space but no fridge. The shower room was small but kept really clean by the housekeeper Jane and the shower itself was powerful. The ship is adults only and we found that in our early fifties we were among the younger element- which made a nice change! The food was excellent in both the waiter service restaurant and the self service lido restaurant. The only problem was that at breakfast time it was very busy in the lido and we sometimes struggled to find a table. We didn't try the two special restaurants you can pay extra for, we didn't see the need as we were happy with the food anyway. Flights and transfers were very smooth and it's great that Thomson take care of the suitcases from check-in to the cabin saving time at the airports. Read Less
