Conventional cruising wisdom recommends avoiding any sailing right after a major refit for good reasons: work is still ongoing and the crew members have been off their service routines for a few weeks. These issues were evident on the first post-refit transatlantic sailing on QM2 Hamburg – Southampton – New York. But these “teething pains” will be worked out and overall Cunard has made huge ...
The QM2 has just finished a 25 day refurbishing in Hamburg dry dock . The QM2 now has 30 suites added on the top deck. There are also 15 more cabins (I believe geared for solo cruisers. 6 on deck two where the passenger photo gallery used to be. And 9 where the back half of the casino had been. I was surprised to see that the port terminal facility had been moved from Haven City (near ...
Practically everything about this transatlantic crossing on the QM2 remastered exceeded expectations
We were unexpectedly upgraded to Queens Grill from Princess a few days before, so it just got better and better!
Traffic approaching the port from Manhattan was a bit crazy!
Check in was easy and smooth and only security involved a little 'close' queuing
We had cabin 9050 - midship ...
We enjoyed our transatlantic cruise very much. We had a lovely, large Queen Suite and enjoyed the Queen level experience . We were able to eat when we wanted and enjoyed a private lounge with entertainment. I enjoyed the Canyon Ranch Spa and the beauty salon. We met wonderful people and the staff was great. It was a long trip but we had no jet lag! The educational talks were good and the shows had ...
Major disappointment. The weather was bad but not Cunard fault. Six days not being able to get out in deck was wearing but Cunard did what it could. Four formal nights was at least one to many. The service from staff was excellent befitting her reputation. Cabin size was as expected and amenities were OK.
Now it gets disappointing.
Pre cruise information was almost non existent. I had to ...
Background.
This was our first ship / cruise / crossing.
UK couple celebrating 25th Wedding Anniversary.
Preceded by a flight to New York from Heathrow and 4 nights in Manhattan.
New York was fantastic with buildings for the first time for us being beautiful and the skyline is stunning. We will be back and would recommend Bryant Park, Times Square, Rockefeller Centre views , One World ...
Returning to the QM2 was like revisiting an old friend. Immediately upon boarding, I let out an audible sigh. Over the next few hours, as I returned to favorite haunts like the Commodore Club, that warm comfort returned as I relaxed into a week of bliss.
We boarded the QM2 on Tuesday 10 May on a particularly busy day at Southampton. Not only were all three Queens in port, returning from ...
Our first trip on a cruise. Why have we not done this before. Embarking was a stress less experience and the meet and greet was a nice touch. Our state room with enclosed balcony was a good size and the bed was so comfortable. Having the enclosed balcony was a good choice seeing as we were doing a transatlantic voyage and also a good size for the two of us. There was good information around ...
My lifelong dream had been to sail across the Atlantic on the QE2. Sadly, it was taken out of commission before I had that opportunity, but after I retired and I decided I would treat myself to a crossing. As my nephew was to be married in England on May 4th, the May 10th sailing fitted in perfectly with my plans.
Embarkation was somewhat delayed because of a computer glitch but it was very ...
The ship was beautiful and very clean, although it is definitely in need of some sprucing up. The crossing was very cold and very rough, so I stayed indoors.
I did not find that there were a lot of activities - I am used to Royal Caribbean which always seems to have a plethora of activities. Each morning there was a lecture, which could be seen on the in room TV later on, there were 3 ...
