Whilst this was a short cruise to Belgium I do wonder if Cunard are even bothered about missed opportunities with "new to the brand" cruisers. We are 'suite' cruisers 2-3 times a year and in our 40's, surely a demographic the company might be keen to impress for our future cruise dollars? As Queens Grill guests we were allowed to the front of the line but very little else to impress or separate the significant amount of money the short break cost. The embarkation was easy but again a very lackluster nod of a few heads as we boarded, nobody directing any joiners or nobody/nothing with a genuine welcome. The stateroom was beautifully presented, well equipped and meticulously maintained. The 'butler' team were nearby and thankfully gave us a genuine welcome that we've come to expect. The ship was well presented, immaculate and beautiful to explore. She has just returned from a refresh/refit with new carpets and new fixtures and fittings. The food & service I n the Q Grill was excellent and it was wonderful to see quite how much effort everybody made with their dress in the evenings. The tables for 2 were VERY close together. Thankfully we are a sociable couple happy to chat, but if you wanted private conversation or to be left alone you would have struggled. The Entertainment Director was no where to be seen, nor his/her team. Heard or seen no where. With an opportunity to impress they failed miserably. A lame 60's wedding/tribute band on the main theatre for the 1st night? Awful. Surely this is a great opportunity to really showcase Cunard at its best?! Thankfully the second night the cast were able to impress with a new production show which showcased a beautiful theatre, a pleasant story and a talented young cast working very hard. I can only hope that a longer cruise might trigger a better more comprehensive welcome, entertainment selection and genuine appreciation of our custom? Sadly Cunard won't see us return any time soon. A shame as we wanted to enjoy a lot more. We've been back for 2 days and still no post-cruise survey to complete, do they even care? Clearly not. Shop wisely people! Read Less

Summary: Beautiful ship. Disappointing experience. Details: Just got back from 22 day cruise on Cunard's Queen Elizabeth from San Francisco to Hawaii, Bora Bora, Tahiti, New Zealand, Sydney, returning home to San Francisco via 13 hour Quantas flight. It was our 20th wedding anniversary and I wanted to do something special for my wife. Especially since we had planned a Tahiti cruise on the Paul Gauguin in 1999 but job changes for both of us caused us to cancel. Cunard was running a free balcony upgrade incentive, so I booked this cruise and reserved a table for 2 so we could have some intimacy. We arrived at the Upper Britannia dining room the first night and were shown to a table for 4 people. I went to the maitre d' and asked if we could please have the table for 2 which we requested 3 months earlier. The maitre d' sarcastically quipped "Only three months" and then refused to provide the requested accommodation. The pursers office were extremely annoying. It took them 4 days, requiring us to come to their desk each day, to get our credit card authorized. The coffee was appalling. As an ex-pat, it grieves me to see how badly the Brits make coffee. We've been through this before when we visited the UK. Way too strong. The drink prices were ridiculous, averaging $14 each. We don't drink alcohol but Virgin Mary's and Cokes were still dear at $4.50 and $3.75 respectively. The food was un-imaginative "Carnival Cruise" fare although the fish and chips in the pub was decent as was the afternoon tea, stale sandwiches, scones with no clotted cream (unheard of).. The toilet in our cabin was ridiculously loud. A man came to fix it but we noticed no improvement and he never returned despite our asking. There was a terrible smell of raw sewage outside our cabin one night. They fixed it. But no apology offered. There were so many sick people onboard that the main Theater sounded like a diphtheria ward with so many people hacking away. My wife contracted the same flu-like infection and remains sick even after we returned home and got her an antibiotics prescription. Discussions with other passengers indicated the onboard sickness problem had been occurring since the ship left New York a few weeks earlier. Not sure why I escaped. Perhaps it was because of all the anti-bacterial lotion I applied hourly to my hands, nose and face every day. The weather was rough for at least 10 of the 14 "at sea" days". Not Cunard's fault, but the promenade deck was frequently roped off due to the rough seas so no walking possible. Regrettably, it's unlikely we will be taking any Cunard cruises in the future. we chose this ship to celebrate our Diamond wedding anniv on the day of departure (I was actually born on the day QM was launched) and its juicy itinerary. .having cruised about 120 times all around the world the three places that had most appeal were first timers for us Okinawa, Taiwan & Brunei persuaded us to pay up 16 months before cruise commenced. imagine our horror when we received an email on Xmas Eve cancelling all 3 ports of call---yes 2 weeks before boarding at Southampton with no offer of cancellation. the overall cruise was immensely disappointing and yes we feel it was poor value for what we paid (and are still paying the remortgage) entertainment was banal, repetitive & frankly boring.-- hygiene standards were abused, food in the Britannia was just acceptable, in the King`s Court unacceptable ,duplicate bridge (which interested me) was disorganised, chaotic and a shambles. embarkation at Capetown was as usual an utter disgrace, wine prices, excursion charges and quality were unjustifiable, port agents recommended by Cunard for emergency were unavailable all the issues were brought to the attention of senior staff on board and despite promises nothing was ever heeded. care for the infirmed in ports of call was non sympathetic..communication with Cunard is an established horror story and they confirmed this status to Maril & myself. they just ignore you knowing their ship will always be full because it is the QM2. the Purser, Mr Henry Wasserman, took devious measures to avoid even talking to us although we were spending 100 nights on board and were top category Cunarders.. we requested at booking for Southampton to Dubai quote. Cunard insisted for their convenience to divide this into 3 separate cruises which was more expensive and far more inconvenient for us. even the Hotel Manager Mr D Shepherd admitted this was totally unnecessary as he agreed that ourtreatment on board was way below standard a great disappointment overall with many special moments. if we can help anybody call us at marilbrian@btinternet.com Read Less

ONBOARD EXPERIENCE & SERVICE We sailed with Cunard on 23rd of July 2016 from Athens. Our sailing points were Athens - Santorini - Katakolon - Kotor - Venice. To begin the journey with Cunard was unpleasant to begin with as we lost our luggage at Athens airport. We embarked on Cunard with whatever we had with us and Cunard crew was being sympathetic with our issue. They told us to let them deal with our luggage, so we can enjoy the cruise experience. At first, we were relieved. But as day went by, we can feel something was odd. For every embarkation point, seems there wasn't any news and when we followed up with them, it was seems like an excuse after another. One of the excuses given was the baggage handlers in Venice were on strike, therefore they can't get our bags delivered to the ship. We weren't willingly accepting their explanations but we had no choice. Until we got ourselves the PIR report from the airline rep and all of the excuses given by Cunard were bunch of lies. Based on the report itself, our bags reached on the very same day as the ship anchored in Santorini water. But the Cunard Manager lied to us in the face, telling the bags were still being traced and they still had no news from the airline rep. Oh yes, regarding the baggage handler strike in Venice? It was another BIG LIE by Cunard. the last airport strike in Venice was las month. Based on the PIR report, after Santorini, our bags were being sent to Venice and it was there for a several days before being sent back to Santorini because nobody was picking it up. They had a week to sort our luggage stuff, but failed to do so. Meanwhile it took us only 3 DAYS to find and get our luggage after we reached home. The staff from Purser's office were also not that friendly, but grumpy. One staff even questioned us,"what do you want me to do?" when we came to see him about our cabin issue. After all of the post cruise feedback we gave to Cunard, Cunard didn't bother much but instead, wished us to change our mind in the future about them. To us, the crew, our on-board experience and services provided by Cunard were so terrible that we would never pick Cunard as our future cruise consideration again. FOOD Food was absolutely delicious. Breakfast, Lunch, Tea time, Dinner, Supper have a lot of selections and variety. However, the buffet coffee was average, much better in the restaurant. Their cafe had two attempts at making a latte, both were undrinkable. ENTERTAINMENT It was quite poor from our honest opinion. The stand up comedian performed two different shows over the week. The first night was okay, but the second night was lame. Instead of performing live, we were entertained by his performance from a few years ago through a projector screen. The Cunard performing group was absolutely terrible. The dance were not synchronized at all, the singing was cheesy and off pitch, and the plot was lacking in substance. Read Less

If you are booking a Saver Fare you may be kept awake by Band ( just the base player in this case ), you are not warned of this before booking. You should expect to contact the Pursar's desk 4 times before something is done. Many people have said that going with Cunard is a totally different experience and quality to that of Royal Caribbean, believe me that is not our impression now. Other problems we encountered : 1. Toilet broke 2. Shower broke 3. Table vibration in restaurant , I have video to show this 4. Being told no passport needed when got to Hamburg , only to have to walk back and get it. Not only us but most of the passengers , and no tannoy announcement to warn others. 5. Staff that hardly smile, some were really nice but that maitre d' was really rude when asking for a dinner menu. In summary , not sure why would book with Cunard , maybe we were just unlucky but to say qm2 remastered might be the wrong message. Read Less

Just arrived home from a 10 day trip on the QM2. From the Embarkation process to the amenities on board, the line is outdated and behind the times. The entire cruise line is geared towards senior citizens There were more walkers, motorized devices and wheelchairs than one would expect. The shore excursions clearly stated not to register if you had mobility problems however, there were so many on the ship with these problems that it prevented a easy process for these events to take place. The casino is outdated, and clearly not ready to come into this century. There is no ATM on board. You can not pay cash towards your bill during your trip, and can not settle your bill in advance Many of the shore excursions went well into dinner time, and you had no time to return to the ship and prepare for dinner, as it is always formal or semi formal, so you are forced to eat in the buffet area which had limited choices, and there seemed to be limited staff to replenish. Our room was not well cleaned before we entered There was still food on the carpet from the previous occupants, stains on the wall where soda had spilled from the previous occupants. The deck furniture was worn, and rusted, the bathroom shower floor was stained and had mold on it along with the top of the shower. The bathroom smelled of urine throughout the trip. I believe they should of advertised the ports that required tendering in the brochure. This was our 4th trip on this line, and the last. The value is not there Read Less
