A post-Covid cruise that I can honestly rave about

We wanted to do something different for the holidays but after being a bit disappointed by the high passenger loads and reduced staffing and services on some recent cruises, our expectations were a bit muted. Also we were not enthused about flying during such a busy time of year. As it turned out, the QM2's cruise to the Caribbean over Christmas and New Years was a very pleasant surprise. We ...

Scones galore and happy were we

Scones with clotted cream EVERY SINGLE DAY!! And hands down the best ship's library ever (though I've only been on 5 ships in life so far). My husband and I did our first crossing from NYC to Southampton in October 2022, and we loved it enough to come back again. The first crossing in 2022 was even better in the entertainment realm--we joined the National Symphony (I think that was the name; their ...

QM2 Round Trip NY to Caribbean

The boat looked splendid as she was recently refreshed. She was freshly painted on the exterior and looked amazing. The interior refresh included some new soft goods such as carpets and upholstery, however as expected there are still some areas that need repair. Embarkation was smooth. We arrived at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal around 11:30am. Our assigned check in time was 3:00 pm. We stood in ...

(Note: The headings in this review will be lines from this old Cunard travel film from the 1950s, "Getting there is half the fun", about a voyage on the original Queen Mary/Queen Elizabeth. Well worth a watch! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utH65UZ7w_w) Do you need or want to get to Europe or the United States? Does the idea of putting on a tuxedo fill you with excitement? Do you like perfect ...

QM 2 is a wonderful ship. It is very nautical and has a large number of venues in which to eat, dance, drink or listen to music. The activities on this crossing which focused on art and design were very good. The entertainment in the main showroom was fair. The food is commparable to most mid to upper tier ships which is good but not great. The pub had good food and an excellent irish duo ...

Elegance and Fun

We chose this cruise because it is different than any other cruise, it is a crossing on an ocean liner. My daughter and I loved going to tea in the afternoon, sitting out by the pool at the back of the ship, and all the historic photos on board. Having a planetarium is a unique feature for a cruise ship and we attended several times. The late night "snack" is fabulous and is really another ...

An excellent voyage on a beautiful ship!

Why so many complaints? If you don’t want to see any signs of rust and wear, go on a brand new cruise ship! This ship is 18 years old and they were constantly painting and repairing everywhere during our cruise. Many of the areas have new carpet, new furniture and the ship was spotless in all the bathrooms, common areas and restaurants. I think some cruisers got a little spoiled pre-pandemic ...

Our best voyage ever, though not a normal journey

We traveled August 5-28 on the Queen Mary 2, round trip from New York stopping at Southampton, Hamburg, Zeebrugge, Rotterdam, Hamburg, and Southampton. As a result of having 3 or 4 cancelled trips in 2020 and 2021 (and resulting FCC), we splurged on a Queens Grill Penthouse (we’ve previously traveled in both Princess Grill and Britannia). This was not a ‘normal’ shipboard experience for us as we ...

We had high hopes going into this crossing that were repeatedly undermined by reading reviews characterizing the ship as decrepit, the atmosphere as stifling, and the dress code as arcane and draconian. Luckily, our high hopes were realized and our doubts unfounded. We loved the slightly old-fashioned feel of the ship and its passengers. The interiors are comfortable, lived in, and attractive. ...
