Our cabin was comfortable enough, and the room attendant paid meticulous attention to detail. Storage was abundant and adequate, though it did help that I'd taken piles of wire hangars with me. The bathroom was comfortable and well-lit. Having a tub/shower was a luxury, though two sinks seem unnecessary in such a small space. The built-in hair dryer was wimpy. A better one was in the closet, but couldn't be plugged in in the bathroom. Aside from electronics and a spotlessly clean bathroom, the condition of our small stateroom was less than we'd expect on an aging, economy-priced ship. The sheer curtains were filthy and so creased they did not meet in the middle and our window overlooked the Promenade deck. Wallpaper was peeling from the walls. Decorative tile in the shower has been scrubbed for so many years half the design has worn off. The carpet was beginning to show ground in grime and wear. That was just the beginning. Three different times we were freezing to death with the thermostat set on high and had to call to have the ventilation adjusted. At least one day toward the end of the cruise, the entire ship was uncomfortably cold due to HVAC problems. The plumber was in the room at least once a week. The first time a clogged pipe soaked the carpet, requiring two days of heat and fans to dry out. What a nuisance! A faucet leaked from the top, causing water to puddle on the counter and later the floor. White bubbly slime oozed from the floor drain a few times, and once water emerged, soaking the bathmat. The bathroom smelled like sewer gas half the time. I will give them credit. The plumber always arrived promptly, and when I mentioned the state of the room to the hotel manager, we immediately received new sheers. They would have replaced the wallpaper, but we didn't want the disruption, and we already knew the room was a mess. We just expect better than this from a cruise line that doesn't discount cabins even when the ship is half full because, according to one travel agent I met aboard, "They don't want just anyone on this ship!" Our room was just about big enough, with a very comfortable bed and sufficient storage. It was well sound-proofed, apart from the usual plumbing noises, with effective individual temperature control. The compact bathroom had a short tub with shower over; unfortunately cheap toilet paper was provided and the water was only lukewarm two evenings. The little veranda was handy for photos but of course usually gave us a view of the docks by day. We didn’t suffer too much from being near the bow, even in moderately rough seas. Read Less

Crystal is very honest about declaring ANY view obstruction; my cabin hardly had any view limitation, just the top of a lifeboat well beneath the general line of sight. The bathroom is very easy to navigate, with double above-counter sinks and a nice detachable shower spray head. I liked the shampoo, conditioner, bath/shower gel, and lotion provided. No need to bring one's own. Read Less

We know what to expect with the Symphony cabins. We were close to the elevator (a plus) and the cabin was clean, fresh, and totally acceptable. We do wish there was more room to walk around at the bottom of the bed, and also by the closet. as this is the only real draw back. We enjoyed the large bathroom and the always excellent shower/tub and the verandah Read Less

To say we were very unhappy with the partially obstructed view from the veranda of cabin 9094 would be a substantial understatement. Cabin 9094 was among the least satisfactory staterooms we have EVER experienced in over 15 river and ocean cruises. We booked this cruise very early and requested a stateroom near the ones we had occupied on earlier cruises (9125 and 9118 for example). Instead, we were assigned cabin 9094. While, perhaps, I should have checked on this immediately, I naïvely relied on Crystal and/or our American Express Platinum travel agent to warn us about any problems with this cabin (including the view). Neither did so. We were on board for almost 30 days and rarely made use of our veranda because of the obstructed view. On previous cruises, we used our veranda daily when weather permitted. By the way, I have noted that beginning June 2014, cabins on Deck 9 with a"slightly obstructed view" are being classified by Crystal as A-2 and offered at a lower price. However, whatever the discount, we would advise NEVER to select a cabin anywhere near the vicinity of 9094 on either side of the ship. Lifeboats obstruct the veranda views both port and starboard on level 9. Read Less

Our cabin we knew was not on the large size, as cruise ships go, but because Crystal Symphony's public areas are so spacious and inviting, we do not feel cramped in our stateroom. I do recommend the balcony even in cold destinations, because access to fresh air and unobstructed views for photos is important. Also we purposely chose a starboard cabin for this departure which definitely did afford the best immediate views during our right-to-left journey from BA to Valparaiso. Read Less
