Having read some of the previous reviews, we were a bit worried about taking this cruise. However, overall it warrants the four stars I have given it. The service throughout the ship was mostly very good, which was good as you cannot remove the service charge of 10 Euros per person a day on any Costa ship. The ship was in a pretty good condition, but it is starting to show a few signs of needing a dry dock. The entertainment was varied but we enjoyed most of it, obviously it is down to your taste. It is definitely a party ship, with lots of music and dancing. There was a good choice of food in the main dining room, and it usually was hot enough. In the buffet the choice was also good, but it was often only luke warm. A tip would-be to have breakfast in the main dining room, it means you can always get a seat and much of it is buffet service, but you can order things such as omelettes from a menu. You can only get tea and coffee in the buffet when breakfast and afternoon tea is on, otherwise you have to get it from a bar and pay. This was not a problem for us as we had the drinks package. This was a slow way to return to S. America and the ports made this a good choice. The ship was fairly full with guests from Spain, Italy, Finland, Russia, Switzerland, Holland, France, Argentina, Germany, Brazil, UK, USA and others. Embarkation was slow in Savona, took us two and a half hours to get onboard. The food was Italian as expected with some unusual options such as pasta with squid, grilled salt cod and an odd dinner selection of sausages with endive with a pita bread on the side. Service was leisurely at meals but the waiters tried hard to please everyone. One table companion had registered as gluten free and at times seemed to get better options. When several others asked for the same choice, the head waiter was summoned and said only pre registered guests with a doctor's letter could pick from the gluten free menu. Coffee and tea is not avaiable after lunch or dinner in the DR but the waiters were generous with the wine for those with drink packages. Entertainment was quite good most nights with male tenors, dancing, magic acts and other singers. Most of the bars had music every night, some very good. We took several Costa tours -in Europe, all our tours in English were cancelled due to insufficient numbers but I rebooked in Spanish with no problems using the Totem machines. Tours mostly catered to two languages so we has Spanish/ Italian, Spanish /Portuguese, then once we hit Brazil English/Finnish, English/French and English/ German tours. Once we hit Rio, there was a major exodus and 1200 Brazilians came onboard. The whole ambiance changed with a late disco opening at midnight and a late dinner at 0100 to 0500. Breakfast in the dining room was almost emty at 0800 as many of the new arrivals slept in. Many of the new passengers were in their twenties and thirties compared to the more senior crowd who boarded in Europe. Customer service was fair to poor with long line ups at the desks and "Come back tomorrow" being a popular response. The TV and internet were very poor, much of the time there was no TV at all except the onboard channels showing tours and safety information. Internet was spotty with no service available at times. Our balcony cabin was comfortable and our cabin steward did a good job. Read Less

We booked Costa Pacifica for 10 night Mediterranean cruise for our wedding anniversary. It was our first cruise and i would say that it met and sometimes exceeded our expectations. Value for money was great and with few exceptions everything was awesome. Cleanliness overall was top. Reaching places on the ship was easy after we discovered the interactive screens. Sadly, always some of the elevators were out of service. With the exception of our dinner waiter who was later then other waiters, the staff was very helpful and friendly. Food quality and variety for us was exceptional. Many serving buffets and hours. We loved sea fruits, bakery, grills, pastas and desserts. We dinned in My Way restaurant. The menu was different each night, with 3-5 options for each meal, italian cuisine at it's best. Daily and evening events, some free, some paid. We were clearly explained that this is an italian ship and although we enjoyed the italian atmosphere, we felt that some events were for italian guests mainly. English is the second language here. Theatre shows were ok with some good singers, decent dancers and great acrobats. Some comedy also. Internet packets are expensive like all cruises, but there are some social packets and even one option to pay for minute. Excursions were worth it, some a little expensive but it was the best option. We booked northern part of the Lanzarote, Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife, and the 9h all around Funchal (fabulous experience). We chose to visit Marseille and Malaga on our own and it was a good plan. We absolutely loved the condition of the ship, the design and decorations. Everything reflects a musical theme. Recommend it. Read Less
