We chose this cruise based on the itinerary. We have cruised with Regent, Silver Sea, and Oceana previously so we were a bit skeptical of Viking. The cruise exceeded our expectations. There are some extra touches that Regent and Silver Sea does better such as passing appetizers in the bars at night and fruit platters in the room. But I would still rate Viking as a luxury cruise. The staff on Viking is well trained and friendly at all times. The food was excellent in all of the venues. The included tours are not what I would have liked them to be, but it was clear from the descriptions what they included. We purchased several optional tours that were very good. We also purchased outside tours through Viator which I highly recommend. The embarkation and disembarkation was the easiest that we have ever had. We were allowed on the ship and in our room at 11:00 am. Our cabin was a Jr.Penthouse Suite which was well appointed with lots of storage space. The bathroom was spacious with two sinks. Our cabin steward Clark was the best that we have ever had. Norway and Iceland were on our bucket list and this cruise was a perfect way to see both. Four stops in Iceland gave us a chance to see most of the highlights of Iceland. We would definitely travel with Viking Ocean again. Read Less

We like Viking and we liked the itinerary. The public spaces were lovely, the service was great with providers encouraged to interact with guests. Manfredi’s was disappointing, but the main restaurant and the World Cafe were excellent. The view from our balcony was amazing, and the excursions were well run and informative. I am an early riser and especially enjoyed the quiet spots on the ship early in the morning. We were very lucky with the weather - the sea was like glass through most of the trip. The only slight rockiness was later at night when we we rocked in the bosom of the deep. Since we were there in the summer, most nights it didn’t get truly dark. We kept our curtains open and watched the sea go by. Early in the morning on port days we had fabulous views of fjords and mountains. A truly enjoyable experience. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary and the specialty restaurants. We were disappointed with some of the stops as they were a waste of time, where we could have spent more time in other ports that we visited. We were also very disappointed in the specialty restaurants. The Italian restaurant (Manfredi's) was sub-par (and we ate their twice to give them a second chance), and the other specialty restaurant, The Chef's table, had a different menu every three nights, however, it was a fixed menu and if you didn't like the selections on the menu (we didn't) you could not order anything else. We never went to the Chef's table because the menus were not appealing to us. The regular dining room had many choices and the food and service was good. Unfortunately, the thing that ruined the cruise for us, and will make us think twice about ever taking another Viking Ocean cruise, is that the last night (we were on the port side) at 1:30 a.m. there was a loud banging of 4 bangs followed by a screeching noise. We had to get up at 5:30 a.m. to have breakfast and leave the ship. This repeated every 30 seconds. I called customer relations at 2:00 a.m. to find out what it was. They called housekeeping, and told me that it was the luggage being unloaded and that it would "stop soon." By 2:30, the noise had not stopped and I called customer relations again, and could not get an answer as to when it would stop. It finally stopped at 3:30 a.m. I contacted Viking by email when I returned home and received a phone call from their customer relations department. He had no idea what the problem was--so why did he bother to contact me until he found out?!? I told him that I would like to know what the banging was, and he called me back two days later to tell me that it was a conveyor belt they used to unload luggage. I'm sorry--this was not an inexpensive cruise--there is NO EXCUSE for loud banging for 2 hours in the middle of the night on any ship. Read Less
