This itinerary through Italy, Spain, and Cannes was really appealing to us. Checked off a lot of boxes for us. Cruising allowed us to visit many sites (Pompeii, Vatican, Florence, and more) conveniently. I am a teacher and I have a very defined time that I can travel each summer. This specific schedule fit our calendar perfectly. Our cabin was clean, the food was excellent, the ship set sail and docked efficiently and on time. The security of having record of us boarding and disembarking at each port gave us peace of mind. The cons for us was that the ship was crowded. And every time we had a question, no one could answer or resolve anything except going and standing in line at Guest Services. I must have done that once a day! They are most competent, but less than friendly. It was usually a demeaning experience! The other aspect of this trip that really got us started off in a less than relaxing manner was having us wait for nearly four hours on the ship, just milling around with our carry on luggage, without being able to go to our rooms. We were led to believe from all of the info sent to us that we would be separated from our luggage for a time period and to have things with us that we would need, but we were never alerted to the time lag for getting into our room and being able to chill a little. I'm sure there's some reason for it, but it was not a great start to our trip. We grew so weary of being nickel and dimed throughout the week. Internet should be included. $30/day for Internet access is ridiculous. So is the mini-bar charges for beer, wine, and other drinks that are available at no extra charge at the bar. There are so many ways you can streamline general operations to make things a little more convenient and relaxing for guests and still make your money. For the most part, I felt like cattle being herded around - on the boat, off the boat, into a bus, waiting for dinner (although I will say meals were handled quite efficiently and the dining staff really had wonderful, welcoming customer service skills!). I felt tolerated, not warmly welcomed. Others we spoke with along the way had the same general feeling. I can say that this cruise served its purpose for us. We might do another when we have some ground we want to cover. But the experience itself was not the quiet, relaxing vacation we anticipated. This was, by far, the most expensive vacation we have ever had and, frankly, expected a tad more welcoming and pampering, but really I was the most average overall experience we have had in our travels, except for the sites we got to see. Those we will remember! The staff works so very hard and I appreciate their effort so much. But one of the crew told me that they are signed on for one-year contracts and work with only two half-days off each week, for 10 months straight. I think they need some time off occasionally to recharge their batteries a little more for themselves and for the guests. Read Less

We wanted to visit Spain, France and Italy. We have two older children who had never been to Europe. One had studied Italian and the other French. We picked an excursion each day that would be active and fun. We climbed up the volcano over Pompei, then visited the ruins of Pompei. We climbed up to the top of the leaning tower of Pisa. We chose to spend the extra money to stay in the Haven on the cruise/ it was spectacular. The service was top notch. We were pampered and had a restaurant, bar, pool and sun deck all in our area. It was quiet and very upscale. The staff learned our names and favorite food/drinks right away. It was a fantastic experience! We were able to all stay in one cabin with enough beds for everyone- 3 adult children with us. The cabin was spacious with two separate bedrooms and two full bathrooms. I will always choose the Haven when it is an option. Read Less

This was our ninth cruise, third with NCL. I am rating it poor simply because of the issues with the cabin, described later. We chose this cruise because friends had already booked this sailing. This was our first cruise in The Haven and we were hoping for every good thing we've heard about The Haven and we were not disappointed. The experience was awesome, from the minute we checked in until we disembarked we were treated like royalty. Our butler, Helbert, brought us a pitcher of ice water daily, made sure we had milk in the fridge for morning coffee. When we returned to our cabin after excursions, he had left a snack (fruit or sandwiches) along with some sweets for us. The concierge, Omar, lived up to his reputation. He is perfect in that position. We ate in The Haven restaurant for most meals and the food was fantastic, service was excellent. Sharmila and Remi were our favorites, but everyone was friendly and provided great service. While we spent most of our time in The Haven area, all of our dealings with any crew members were pleasant. The washy-washy ladies when entering the Cafe could bring a smile to anyone's face. Other than the specialty dining, we had every meal in The Haven. We chose Cagney's, La Cucina and Moderno for our specialty dining and the food was fantastic. Service in La Cucina was a little slow, but the food made up for it. As for the entertainment, I walked out of Priscilla Queen of the Desert after about 20 minutes, as did many other people. My husband stayed hoping it would get better but it didn't. We had late reservations for Burn the Floor on the last night of the cruise, but had to skip it because of an 0615 disembarkation to catch our flight. We didn't participate in many activities around the ship because we preferred the solitude of The Haven and our cabin. There were a lot of children on this cruise and many of them were running around unsupervised and/or undisciplined. Since we had booked a Spa Suite, we also had access to the Thermal Spa. There wasn't much time to enjoy the spa on this cruise, but we did manage to get there twice and found it very relaxing and peaceful. The entire area was clean and well maintained. Read Less
