We went on the Dawn last Summer and everything about it was perfect so we decided to do it again. Booked the Gem because we like to leave out of Boston. We booked 11 months in advance and decided to do a mini suite . We stayed in one last year and loved the extra room! Not the case on the Gem! We only saw our room steward in hall 3 times. Customer service rep Manuela de Olivera was incredibly rude and combative!! Good customer service is non existent! Never again! Our suite had some kind of bump out that took up additional space in our room. We couldnt walk by our bed to get into room without going sideways! We also couldn’t stand in front of closet and open doors! My son had a balcony room that Was more spacious ! When we asked the desk why it was considered a mini suite the rep became very combative and rude! She said “You are not getting an upgrade!” We told her we didn’t want to move just wanted it noted that cabin 11016 should not be considered a mini suite! She said it was our fault WE didn’t do our homework! She also kept arguing that all mini suites are the same size. (We later found out that our suite was less square footage than typical mini suites.) The customer service rep Manuela kept saying we were wrong so I asked for a manager. He came out and said all mini suites the same. I asked to please come look at it with me. When he got to our room he said you are right this is smaller, also said many others complained about this suite before. Food was poor to mediocre Loved buffet on the Dawn. The Buffett on the Gem was tasteless and similar to school cafeteria type food. Rooms were not kept as clean, they took my dirty and damp towels and rehung them instead of fresh ones. Room AC never got cold. Staff not very friendly. Empty beer cans and trash on ground around pool , very rusty balcony, Played Deal or No Deal. It cost $25 and only one person goes up to play, It said you have to be 18 plus and the name they called has to be present to play. They called a mans name and he wasn’t there so his 2 kids both under 12 went up with aunt and played. One of the kids actually played as contestant. Biggest prize was $500 and only 1 person won. Lots of underage drinking and lots of teenagers in night clubs. Read Less

Poor drink service near the pool. Waiters and waitresses rarely seen if ever. Terrible layout on the pool deck, difficult to walk around. Cagneys Steak House was terrible, 3 of 8 got the wrong meal. Drink waiter never showed up. A simple request for bread was forgotten or ignored. Nearly 3 hours for dinner. During that time was able to get 1 drink. La Cucina was equally as bad. Pasta could have been rope, I’m still not sure. Far too many kids, many underage drinking. They had a few pool deck cookouts, they ran out of food by 12:30pm and then served raw vegetables before even cooking them. Spinnaker Lounge was great. Great Outdoors dining/buffet area is beautiful. Sailing was smooth. Staff was great. Food in main dining areas equally as good as specialty dining. Be careful shopping on board, prices on liquor and jewelry is better in the states. Do your homework. I won’t return to this ship. The Norwegian Dawn was far superior. Read Less

It was for our Son & Daughter-In-Laws 30th Anniversary. We went with them and our Daughter and Son-In-Law, so there were 6 of us to celebrate. Our cruise started out with our Daughter-In-Law volunteering us for the married over 50 year couple at the Not So Newlywed Game. It was fun to do it with the love and support from our married children. From that moment on we were referred to The Campers by anyone who was at the show, we could not get on or off an elevator without a funny comment. It made the whole week fun. The food was delicious and there were plenty of choices, I was disappointed that escargot, filet mignon, and lobster tails were not offered. We had the creme brulee after one dinner but it was not offered again, it is one of our favorites and it was delicious. We enjoyed the selection at the Garden Cafe, it was always stocked with fresh food, clean and neat. The personnel were friendly, helpful and nice. We also went to the Grand Pacific on embarkation day but did not go back as our stateroom was forward and it was a long walk. We enjoyed our dinner at the Orchid Garden, the food was also very good. Our favorite's were mid ship at O'Sheehan's and Magenta. Less crowded, always friendly and the service was wonderful. O"Sheehan's was a relaxing place to hang out for the shows in the atrium or just sit by a window to watch the ocean go by. Or just sit on our balcony and relax. We had a really good time with our family on this cruise. Read Less
