MSC Meraviglia

MSC Meraviglia - MSC Cruises

Pros

Fantastic for families; foodies and for those who just want to have a lot of fun

Cons

The endless activities and constant noise, plus kids up all hours, can be a little overwhelming

Bottom line: Big, fun, family-friendly ship with good food and endless entertainment

The timeframe worked for me. The food was terrible. Many of the tables in the dining room were empty after the first night when fellow passengers took notice of how awful the food was. The entertainment was horrible. Opera every night! The cruise photograph folks slipped photographs into our cabin and charged our bill. When we said we did not want them, we had to make multiple trips to various departments to get the charge removed from our bill. The photographs were put into the magazine rack beneath the TV, hidden behind magazines and daily newspapers. Additionally, the cruise ship gave us a written notification that we would be charged for a donation to UNICEF unless we signed a form that we did not want to make a donation. Again, we did not appreciate having to take our time, wait in long lines, to turn in a form saying we did not want to make this automatic donation. All announcements were made in about 10 foreign languages. Even when English was spoken, the accents were so bad that it was difficult to grasp the meaning. Everything was an up sell. Every where we went, someone was trying to sell us something. Either photographs or speciality restaurants, or watches, or overpriced jewelry. Disgusting! There were no Kleenex tissues allowed in our cabin, even though was a place for a dispenser in the bathroom. We did not have a top sheet on our bed. We had to sleep under the bedspread and it had small drops of blood on the end of it. Again, disgusting. I would not go on this cruise line again - even if it was a free cruise. I will never encourage a friend or client to book with MSC. It was a miserable experience. After more than 35 cruises, I can say without reservation, this was the worst experience I have ever had. Shame on MSC! Read Less

We chose this cruise based entirely upon cost. And we got what we paid for. The ship was far too large and crowded for my comfort. I knew we had a problem on the first day when we checked in and were not referred to the proper desk (Diamond members not referred to the desk dealing with them). We found our way to our cabin, and when we attended the lifeboat muster, I was amazed that we were not told where we would find the life vests should they be needed. We were not told how a handicapped passenger would be cared for. Luckily, none of that information was needed. The food was better than expected and the benefits of being rated a Diamond member were excellent. The tables in the dining room were very crowded -- not at each table, but how close the tables were together. On the whole, I was disappointed with MSC. The bathrooms were under-sized, storage was next to impossible. On the next-to-last day, we were told that we would not be going to the private island, which was actually the only port I was looking forward to. We were told that due to the weather, we would miss that stop. (Surprisingly, the two cruises prior to ours also missed the stop -- must have been unusually lousy weather in the Bahamas). They did arrange for us to stop at Belize. However, it was another 'tender' port -- and the woman with me is handicapped and unable to deal with the tenders. We never departed the ship at all during this trip. But, based upon what we paid for the cruise -- we got what we paid for. Read Less

We just got back from the 12th - 19th Jan cruise around Miami, Jamaica, Grand Cayman etc. I have to say, the ship is stunning... very clean and very spacious with lots of great features. The shows were amazing. I actually found the food to be good - not outstanding, but as good as any other cruise ship I have been on. What let this ship down for me was the staff. We had to change our restaurant after night 2 because the headwaiter and waiter around us were very rude. We complained that our starters were cold and they took great offence and made us feel terrible. Once we had moved, we were served much better by Eddy and Santa in the opposite restaurant. The bar staff in the English pub were horrendous.... everywhere else seemed to be OK, but I found overall the staff were quite unwelcoming and not overly friendly. Shame really, it let the ship down for me. There was some guy in the spa who was very rude after I asked for a refund as we could not make our spa day and he questioned me and made me feel really embarrassed in front of other passengers. The actual officers, entertainment staff etc were lovely though and I think they need to look at this. Also, we had to ask to have our shampoo and shower gel etc filled up in the cabin and for our carpet to be hoovered... not what I expected at all. Also, expensive... get the drinks package like we did, otherwise it would be really expensive. Tips are non-removable unlike most other companies so this caught us out so be on your guard, plus they seem to add 15% service charge to a lot of things.... very naughty. Avoid the Spa - $350 for a 50-minute massage for 2 people! No thanks! But the ship itself - stunning! Read Less
