I can only give this ship an average review because it did not meet up to the standards of our other Princess cruises. First of all, the food in the buffet was not very appetizing. We chose to have our lunch at the International Cafe where the food was a little better but only marginally so. There was just not enough variety in both venues. Our experience in the Dining Room was what we expected. The service was very good and the meals tasty. Secondly, the production shows were just OK. The singers were good but the dancers or more specifically the choreography was not very good. I fell asleep through all three shows. Nathan Than was very entertaining. We enjoyed both his shows. Thirdly, the ship is showing it's age. Our interior cabin was comfortable after they fixed the hot water control in the shower. However, the shower curtain was too short so water ran all over the floor. I just wiped myself down the whole week after that. There are some positives. The bed was very comfortable and Anne, our Cabin Steward was very helpful and she seemed to know when to show up and when to not disturb us. The Voice of the Ocean is not fair the way it is currently run. During the first day of auditions, there were 10 people who signed up. All 10 were very good singers. Unfortunately, there was not very many people in the Explorer Lounge and only a few voted. On the second night of auditions there were only 7 people that signed up to audition but there was around twice the number of people who watched and a lot more voted. You can see the imbalance. The auditions should be held over one night to select the finalists. Speaking of karaoke. The karaoke nights only lasted an hour. There were many who gathered up the nerve to sing but could not because there was not enough time. I think karaoke should be at least 1.5 hours long. I am a loyal Princess cruiser and this experience has not changed my mind about cruising with Princess. On future cruises, I will consider Princess Cruises but will no longer consider the Golden Princess. Read Less

Family get together trip. Cons: 1.First and most important contact with the suite: Found coins on the floor and some grains. Bed sheets with black spots and some hair. Red points in bathroom sink which looked like dried blood and toothpaste to me. Room attendant could remove them with his finger. Manager and room attendand both excused as too busy in first day..? 2. I received exipred beer (belgian blue moon) 2 bottles. Twice in the Piazza. Orible taste. 3. Waiters grab glasses on top side where you touch it with your lips. 4. 1000$ per day per couple and you still have to pay for water in the room or 300 yards walk if thirsty in the night. Not allowed to fill your bottle..just a principle 5. The free coffee is absolutely horrible. Waiters were laughing saying ''more starbuck cofee sir?''. 6. Crown grill restaurant was a joke. Waiter never come to refill wine glasses. Waiters looked exosted all over the ship. 7. Your payment card can be charged in anytime if staff know the number. Expect one hour a day from your precious vacation to dedicate to check your card. You may have some surprises. Your input is not necessary to make payments... 8. Bad smell here and there all over the ship. Pros: good food as taste and quality. Read Less

My father died during the cruise and I needed to amend my travel arrangements. The front desk staff were terrible and it took over 3 days to sort new departure arrangements. I received conflicting information from onboard Front desk staff and onshore Princess staff. Princess gave no credit for existing return flight and I had to pay for a new full fare that was exchanged from Aust$ to US$ to NZ$. The air carrier advised my family that Princess as travel agent had full discretion in making no or little penalty charges to travel. No discretion was applied. I would not recommend Princess on this basis. There was relentless onboard promotion for buying jewellery (Effy) and artworks which was tedious. Food was good and plentiful, entertainment was a bit ho hum - one comedian was absolutely dreadful and the second relied on old hack and tired women-as stupid content. There were two production shows which were excellent. Musicians played similar and in a lot of cases the same songs (how many times can you listen to Hey Jude?!) Onboard activities were limited with the same things recycled through the cruise - movies (same movies returned too frequently); bingo; quizzes (I'm a quiz fan but the same format and type of questions were used across three quiz events, and the events were bumped in face of venue conflict); demonstrations such as cocktail making was view only. Cards as an activity was good (bridge; 500) as there were a fair number of people interested therefore plenty of opportunity to play. However this was organised by participants. I feel entertainment staff often opted out of organising activities, so it dependent on participants to get things going. Venues appeared to be mismanaged in that the act and or audience size wasn't appropriate to the particular venue used. Enrichment activities were limited to forensic topics (potentially good however presenter was poor and used promotional material as evidence) and others were directly linked to the sale of jewellery and artworks. Did two excursions - whole day Moorea swimming and snorkeling which was excellent and the LA Venice Beach and Santa Monica visits. Definitely wouldn't recommend Venice Beach as a destination (old; tired; dirty; broken; grotty) but Santa Monica was nice to walk around (shops; pier; beach) Read Less
