Navigator of the Seas

Navigator of the Seas - Royal Caribbean International

Pros

A trendy ship, with virtual balconies in inside cabins and entertainment consists of drone light shows.

Cons

Not a quiet, subdued ship, nor does it have modern cabins with features like multiple outlets and USB ports.

Bottom Line

Navigator of the Seas is a great ship for a short, family-friendly getaway.

We (a group of 31) chose this ship because of the "new water slide and water coaster." The ship was to be refurbished and greater than ever. The first original sailing on February 24th was canceled and RC should have canceled the next couple cruises. Only one water slide was open part of the time, the other leaked to the floors below. RC failed to check the air conditioning units on the ship while it was ported...it was extremely hot in the rooms, in the dinning areas, in the casino, in all areas. only 1/3 of the elevators worked and a few of the public restrooms were either closed or had water problems. The new cabanas on deck 12 were nice but the light fixtures in them were not secure, one fell on some of our group members and thankfully they didn't get hurt too badly. The next day, RC removed all of the light fixtures from the cabanas. The fitness centered was located on the deck...the room was not ready for equipment so they had a few things on the deck. We didn't have children with us but the children's areas did not open until March 6. The casino was so jam packed with chairs in both the table and slots areas that the folks using chairs could not possibly get through. The staff was very friendly as usual. Some of them were obviously just starting to work together, some of the tables took a very long time to get their dinners which were not what the people ordered. I found this to be very unusual since the dining staff is typically on top of things. It was so hot in the dining area that it was almost unbearable. I felt as if we were being forced to go dine at one of the pay restaurants... I was very disappointed that Royal Caribbean made the decision to set sail when it was obviously not ready. I would have rather rescheduled it. Read Less

First cruise after it being refurbished. We chose this cruise because of its itinerary and it being 9 days. The renovations to the ship are very nice. Unfortunately some were not complete so, therefore, we didn’t get the full benefit. If I would of had children along I would have been disappointed because one of the slides was not operational yet and the children’s play areas were not complete. For 70 year olds that didn’t care about those things it was great. Food, service and entertainment were all excellent. We were traveling with a group of 12 and everyone had a great time. Small complaint was the first couple of nights were slow in the main dining room but it got better as the week went on. Also, the only movies offered in the cabin you had to pay for. There should be at least one or two movies a day you don’t have to pay for. About the only TV was MSNBC and Fox News. I know you are not on a cruise to watch TV but sometimes you like a little quiet time away from the crowds and music. They showed movies out on the pool deck but you couldn’t hear and who wants to sit in the hot sun to watch a movie. We did feel that the ship felt a little crowded. I don’t know if it was because some venues were not open yet and everyone was pushed into the areas that were but at times it was crowded. Read Less

This is the second time that we are on this ship. We also cruised for New Year's last year and booked this cruise while we were on the ship. I have to say last year was better. The ship is getting ready to go in for dry dock for a major renovation. We live in Miami so we used Lyft to go to the port. We got there at 11:30 am. Embarkation was quick - we are Emerald and the line was very small. Our room would be ready at 1:30 so we went to the buffet to have lunch and wait for our cabin. We had an interior cabin - 9643 - it was confortable - had lots of storage space and drawers. Our cabin steward was excellent, We cleaned our room twice a day, brought us ice and was attentive to all our needs. We had Mytime dining and we had made reservations for 7:30 3 nights a and 2 nights 8:00. Out waiters were ok - not as friendly and attentive as what we are used to - maybe they had too many tables to serve. The food was ok - nothing expectacular. They never served lobster. We were on the Harmony in September and the food and the service was excellent. We ate in the buffet for breakfast and lunch. Breakfast was good - they had a good selection of items but lunch was not so good. It was like eating the previous night reheated leftovers. You could not even make yourself a great salad. The staff was attentive and friendly. We enjoyed the shows - there two production shows, one hypnotist, a comedian and a tribute to BonJovi. There were all good. We spent quite a bit of time in the Casino. The slots were not paying much. Even the high rollers were not winning big jackpots. There was a lot of smoking in the casino which I don't like - specially people who don't play go there to smoke. Non smoking slot section is very small. They had raffles but if the person was not there they did not pay the price and did not any more names. We had two stops - Nassau and Labadee. In Nassau we took a cab to Baha Mar Resort and Casino. Beautiful resort and a great casino. In Labadee we went to the beach and spent the day there and enjoyed the ships BBQ. Since we live close to the port we cruise a lot and have been to these ports several times but always enjoy going again. Disembarkation was easy. We were off the ship by 8:45 am after picking up our luggage and quickly going through Customs. The New Year's celebration was good. They had music by the pool and also in the Promenade. This year they were selling tables in both areas so people would have reserved seating. The promenade was packed so we went up to the pool deck. Overall we enjoyed the cruise. Like this ship - not too big not too small. All the staff was friendly and attentive and we would cruise on it again. Compared to the Oasis class ship what I like about the Navigator is that it has a lot of open areas to sit where you can watch the ocean like in lounges. (deck 4 & 5) What I don't like is that they have limited venues to eat - Park Cafe is very small - it has sandwiches and pizza and when the buffet is closed (3:30 to 5:30) it's the only place you can grab something to eat (for free). Coming back from Nassau there must have been 100 people in line to grab a snack. Whereas the larger ships have many more options. Read Less
