MSC Seaside

MSC Seaside - MSC Cruises

Pros

Ample outdoor space draws passengers outside to enjoy the ship's Caribbean surroundings.

Cons

With so many areas dedicated to the outdoors, interior spaces can feel crowded during bad weather.

Bottom Line

This bright, elegant and technologically advanced ship is great for North Americans.

Where to begin... The MSC Seaside was an absolute beautiful ship. For the most part, it was very clean. The embarkation process was extremely smooth. We did not have to wait in any lines. That staff was professional. We were able to get into our rooms early. We booked and paid for our cruise before November. We had 2 of the bigger issues right off the bat. One was our Room. We paid for a balcony room and when we received the Email, it did not state the view was obstructed. Not only did we have a big white wall to look at, we also had a huge propeller to view all 7 days. When we called the front desk, unfortunately the ship was completely booked, so we were unable to move rooms. They did not offer to charge us a oceanview price. Instead, their solution to the problem was to take off the $12.95 daily service charge which went to their staff for tips. So instead of them being hit in their pocketbook, they took money away from their staff. I found that disgusting and to me that shows what they think of their staff. My advice would be to check out the ship layout prior to the cruise. I know that now. The 2nd biggest issue that we had were the drink packages. Apparently they changed the drink packages in December. Instead of being grandfathered in, they changed us to the lowest drink package available. When we discussed everything with the Guest service staff members, bartenders, and servers… no one seemed to have the same answer as to what the drink packages contained and what we were to receive. So that was extremely frustrating. As far as dining goes, they had 2 separate buffets. The buffet on a 16th floor seemed to be closed a lot of the time. When you have 5000 people on a ship, that tends to be an issue. The ice cream parlor was also closed most of the time. Yes, the food was very good but the selection was the same for 7 days in a row so that got old. The dining Room was very nice. The portions did seem small, but filling. Our wait staff was phenomenal. However, we had a very large group of over 15 people with us. Our 2nd group did not come back after the 1st night because their waiter was extremely rude. He actually went as far as telling my friend that she could not have the pork chop, that she would actually have steak for the night. Even though she argued with him because she wanted the pork, he still brought her the steak. One thing that I found frustrating was the fact that a friend and I booked a spa day over a month in advance. When we went to book our massage there was only 1 time selection left for the day we booked it. We purposely booked it for the day at sea so we would have something to do. And the 1 spot was during our dinner time so we were unable to go. Therefore, we had to change days. I feel that if somebody were going to pay ahead of time and actually book the day ahead of time, that they should be 1 of the 1st people to get the choose their times. That's just my personal opinion. There were no laundry facilities for us on the ship and we also had to pay for somebody to iron your clothes. We continue to put our key card in the holder to turn the electricity on, however daily our electricity would go out. We called down to the service desk and nobody responded to check the problem with the electric. So each time we would have to actually go outside and re enter the Room to turn electric back on. We noticed the grate over the Air flow vent kept popping out of the wall. At 1 point in time, the filter actually came out. Which would explain why my friend got extremely stuffy throughout the night. It was filthy. Again, when you call the service desk, nobody actually responded to fix the problem. They did have entertainment on the ship. The shows that I've seen were great shows. However, there seemed to be a repetitiveness on the shows. It almost seemed like the same content, just different outfits. You booked your shows ahead of time however no one seemed to be at the doors to check your cards to make sure that you were supposed to be at that show. At one of the 10:45 comedy shows, a 12 year old sat in the front row and got heckled by the comedian. Where are the parents and where is the staff at the doors regulating this? Some of the other issues were just simply waiting a long time or not being waited on at some of the bars. So we would get up and move to another bar. The swimming pools are 6 1/2 foot deep... That's great if you're 7' tall. For somebody who can't swim, they can't even go and wade in the water. Watch your bills closely. My friend a had a $75 charge saying mini bar no alcohol. The next night I was charged for an $85 Mini bar no alcohol. When we went to the service desk, they said that we must have eaten and drank everything out of the mini bars. We didn't even touch the Mini bar in our Room those days. One beer was removed the whole trip. They did remove those charges from our bill. We had another person in our group who also had a similar surprise charge that needed to be removed. I have also noticed that my bill was a specific amount which I agreed with at the end of the cruise. Keep in mind that we got that the morning before we left. And we were checked out by 8:30. I checked my credit card statement 24 hours after leaving the cruise ship and not only did I have that dollar amount charge, I had a separate $133 charge. That I do not approve of! Now!!… my biggest, most disgusting complaint of the whole entire cruise was the day we were at Costa Maya. We noticed some familiar faces that were having fun alongside us. Now, keep in mind, I am not a prude and I'm all about people having fun especially when you have some time off. They began to speak with my group and the one stated that she takes care of children. She said they get off of the ships during the day just to unwind but her shift starts at 4 o'clock. Keep in mind it was 1:30 in the afternoon. Not even 5 minutes after this conversation and her explaining who she is and what she does, we overheard her talking to another ship staff member stating that she did not want to eat because it would ruin her 'drunk!' She proceeded to say 'I can't get drunk if I have food in my stomach.' My mouth dropped open and so did my friends who overheard this and we took pics of this behavior. I find it absolutely appalling that a staff member thinks it is appropriate to go out and drink and then plans on going back in to take care of children! I thank God I did not take my children on this ship. Other then our wait staff at our dining room, our room steward, and one waiter named Danny, most of the staff seemed rude. With the experience that our group had on the ship, I actually found myself asking if I was being video taped. You cannot make this stuff up! Read Less

We add the opportunity to do 2 cruises at same time: first and last one!! Everything is focused on money.! Once you arrive into the ship you have an army of people trying to sell you packaged drinks with quite an agressibe way. You have to be careful with tips that are automatically included (12$/day/people) and sometimes you’re charged for things that you don’t ask for. We were randomly allocated to eat at 5:30!... in the seashore where we had a terrible waitress - that unfortunately we are not allowed to name - but I MSC Seaside management wants to check we were at table 337 !... The food was not very tasty and it was boring to have all the same things to eat. Only very smiling was the nice lady that was taking care of our bedroom. All the sun chairs are full very easily. We had the surprise to find our bottle of water stored outside the fridge the last evening!! Yes the mini bar was locked = no right to store anything there. And in the fitness room the straps on the rower were completely out of service! Surprising for this price cruise. Really disappointed experience. Read Less

my husband and I went on this cruise with 10 other couples. We picked this cruise mostly because the ship Seaside was only 1 year old. I have been on cruise before and know the difference between older and newer ships . Also we liked the itinerary. The ship is gorgeous! If you are looking for a nice ship look no further . MSC Seaside that is. We stayed on desk 14, 14052 cabin with balcony. The size of the cabin is similar to balcony cabin on Royal Caribbean. We got aurea experience that included 2 massages, any time dinning with no line in designated area ( that was my husbands fav feature), Unlimited thermal area use that included snow room Wrist bracelets that illuminated having to carry room card with you We also got premium drink package. With this package you don’t pay tips and don’t have to sign for every beverage you get. We also got priority boarding which we didn’t get to use due to running a little late after doing some shopping in Miami ;) We loved the ship, it’s very nice . Itge inside decor actually reminded us Cosmopoliten hotel in Vegas. Formal dining was pretty decent. There’s was not lobster or ribeye free option, but you can purchase those at a very discounted price if you want. I ordered 1.5 lbs lobster one night and it was $24. Service was very good if you come to dinner around 6-7 o’clock , but would slow down a little after 8:30. We liked Carlos and requested him every night. He’s super nice guy . We wish our time on St Marten was longer, that was our fave island . We really liked beds with cushions by the pool on desk, but found out quickly that you have to reserve ( put towels on them) as early as 6am!!! So last day when we went at sea my husband got up early and got two of those for us and our friends. That was nice:) The whole pool situation is that that by about 10am all “good” and “bad” lounge chairs are taken . But that’s the same at every resort we go . Overall, beautiful almost brand new ship, good food , friendly staff Last thing I wanted to mention. We are very into fitness and used the gym almost every day. Better A/C would be nice. Read Less
