Chose this cruise because it was 5 days and at a port not too far from where we lived. Easy drive. Embarkation went smoothly. Cabins weren't ready until 1:30pm so we went to Lido Deck buffet. When we got to the cabin, our room attendant came in and asked us when we wanted our room made up. Morning, afternoon or night. We chose morning. That means they don't appear again till the next morning. Surprise. No more evening turn down. The ship, the Ecstasy, is old. And it shows. Outdated d├ęcor, so much paint, you can count the layers. The ship smelled bad, especially afternoons and evenings. Other people commented on that too. We were on the 4th floor. It smelled like a nursing home. We ate the first two nights in the dining room. We had dine when you want. We were seated promptly. The first night we ordered salmon. Overcooked as was the baked potato. The food was not hot. The second night we had prime rib. It was okay, but again it was cold. The other nights we ate in the buffet. The food was at least hot up there. The best thing about the food was the desserts. They were great. Guy Fiery's hamburger joint was also good. We have been on many cruises and always looked forward to lobster night. Well, no more, That will cost you $20. I also got a glass of wine the first night. $11. I can buy 2 bottles of wine for that. The entertainment was good. Their private island is beautiful. We didn't take any excursions from the ship. Too expensive. You can arrange sightseeing off ship for a lot less. Overall, we were very disappointed with the condition of the ship and activities. Thank God they had a place where adults could go. IT's at the back of the ship. Disembarkation went smoothly. Read Less

This was our eighth cruise and it was terrible. There was something being drug overhead and banging noises on things outside of the ship all hours of the night. My husband woke up around four in the morning and was met with the floor outside the bathroom being flooded. Called customer service and they sent someone down to check. Had to put up with fans in the room and the hallway drying the floor. Also they came in and caulked the floor in the shower and we had to put up with the smell for the rest of the cruise. This was the same thing that my other family members in the adjoining rooms experienced. Obviously from the review I just read it was not just our two rooms that we affected. Dining was not what we expected. Food options were limited and when we asked for the table for four we were shoved in between other tables. I am a avid tea drinker but did not drink tea on this cruise as it was nasty. I have tried to maintain my loyalty to Carnival but after this experience I am not so sure. Bad thing is I was planning another cruise in December. Read Less

We chose this cruise as we received an offer on a reduced room rate. Also as we live near Charleston, it just seemed right. This was our second cruise with Carnival, and it was enjoyable. The Ecstasy has some age on her (1991), but she is a good ship. There are rust and mechanical issues, but... What really impressed us was the staff. They were first class. The day at Princess Cay was a nice beach-day. The lunch line-wait seemed a bit long. and the tenders were interesting. In Freeport we took the City Tour. It was a Sunday, so many stores were not open. Carnival "works" with the local vendors to open on Sunday. The tour bus we were on was not in the best condition (interior). Our driver was quite entertaining. I took the "Behind the Fun" tour - do not miss it if you like to see how Cruise ships operate. We are starting to plan our next Cruise on the Sunshine. It is just so nice to drive to the dock and gat on the ship! Read Less
