First off, the staff was great. Everyone I met was fantastic. That was the best thing going for Norwegian. However, the food was most disappointing. Food items such as the corn on the cob was chewy, fish / meats were over cooked, potatoes were dry & even deserts were unbearably sweet. I also didn't like that a lot of the places were a separate charge. I came on a cruise to not worry about charges not take on more. It's really annoying to have to ask if everything is charged. Also, I have been on Carnival & Royal Carribean (RC) so I was comparing Norwegian to them. Carnival is a cheap cruise so you get what you pay for but I thought their ship had much more livelier parties and events. It seems the events only catered to a small group (10 people or less) while the rest of the group just watched = not engaging. RC's food was the best. I had breakfast, lunch, & dinner and was completely satisfied every meal. The staff were friendly and we had the same people so they knew us well. I appreciate the flexibility of going to dinner at any time but there is no connection with the waitstaff. That equates to better service for the guests and better tips for the staff. Also, the ship didn't have as many ammenties as RC. I remember 2 large pools onboard so if one was packed then we can go to the other. Housekeeping staff needs work. I never saw my staff and they would clean at weird times and I only got 2 towel animals out of 7 days. I don't really care about the animals but if you are going to do it, do it right. There were some events but not as many as I would have liked. The shows were good but need more of them. Overall, I wasn't too impressed with the Pride of America. I really enjoyed Hawaii but if I could do the same cruise, I would probably do it with another cruise-liner. This was a great way to see the Hawaiian Islands with a great itinerary but if you have cruised on other cruise lines you will likely be disappointed in the quality of the service and the quality of the food. While we experienced several very good staff members the quality of the service overall is well below what you would expect compared to many other cruise lines. Food quality was eatable but nothing to write home about and the Freestyle dining while it sounds great is inefficient since they are trying to do everything all at the same time. The excursions were good but overpriced. The embarkation and disembarkation processes at the beginning and end of the cruise were good but at ports the disembarkation process was very inefficient. The ship was nice but difficult for those with mobility issues with narrow corridors and the staff kept leaving things sticking out into the corridors so we had trouble negotiating with a wheel chair. Not the quality of other cruises we have been on but it is Hawaii and they are the only cruise line that does this so make sure to get a good deal on you fare and lower your expectations and have a great time. Like many, I read many reviews before and after choosing to book this ship. As a result, I had some reservations that this would offer little more than a moving hotel for our tour of the Hawaiian islands. Therefore, I sent my family’s expectations accordingly. Wow, was I wrong! Having sailed on four previous cruises (with 4 different cruise lines - one of which was Norwegian), I have a experiences to compare and can honestly say this was the best cruise we’ve had! We booked a family suite this trip. The staff were exceptional. I recognize some of this comes with the suite service, but the main dining rooms, bars, and guest services were all great too! If the four cruise lines we’ve sailed, the Norwegian staff have consistently been the best! The ship is older than any other we’ve sailed, but it is kept clean and any problems are quickly addressed. The renovations a few years ago were well done. Our family suite was large and modern and easily fit our family of four (with 2 teenagers). The cruise staff modified the itinerary to give us an opportunity to sail safely past the live lava flow on the big island at sunset. It was an unforgetable experience and pleasant surprise we learned about upon embarking! Great itinerary, great service, and comfortable accommodations! I highly recommend! Read Less
