Bottom Line

Good food, lots of laughter, friendly fellow passengers and no delusions of grandeur

We went on this cruise as a group. One of our group had cruised Carnival many times. I was disappointed in the food. It was almost the same food each day. Not many new items added. I understood that this ship had been recently remodeled. It still looked tired and worn. The Lido deck needs more servers to help clear/clean tables. Some of the staff in all areas were not very friendly. The entertainment was very good. Mat the cruise director was awesome. The shows were grest. Many choices for entertainment. Some of the excursions were not as expected. The Cathedral Cave, was not a moderate activity (should be labeled strenuous not for people with mobility problems). The Curacao 6hr sea turtle adventure was okay, but many stairs for people with mobility issues. It would be nice to see more history excursions as well. I would like to give Carnival another try but not on this ship. Read Less

All in all a very nice experience. The ship was very well maintained, very clean Crew was great. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Customer service top notch. Cabin Steward very good, very conscious of our needs. The dining room experience was wonderful, our waiter was very personable, the food was excellent and arrived soon after order. The buffet seemed well stocked and delicious.Could have used a bit more variety. Entertainment OK, the atrium band was very good, the shows were very good. All ports were excellent. Did not take long to get off ship at each stop. The cruise director was excellent. The only exception to the overall good experience was the female entertainer in the Piano Bar. She was a foul-mouthed poor excuse for entertainment. She had some huge chip on her shoulder about men and for some reason felt it important to drop the F-bomb every chance she got. For the short time I was in there I felt like I was watching the movie Good Will Hunting. Her singing voice was pretty weak, I am shocked she was even able to land a job with Carnival. Despite this one bad experience, I would recommend this ship to anyone with the suggestion that they stop by the Piano Bar the first night and peek inside. If there is a blonde woman playing piano, keep moving, don't waste your time. Read Less

We chose the Conquest because friends invited us to join them. Embarkation from Ft. Lauderdale was quick and easy. First thing we noticed after boarding was how dirty the windows and floors in the eating areas were. This ship is in need of a major renovation. Chaise lounges around pool area had threadbare cushions and stains. Decor throughout ship was aged and worn. Our balcony cabin was comfortable and quiet. We were on the forward port side Lido deck and the views were amazing. Cabin steward was very friendly and did a great job. We got stuck with the late (8:00 pm) seating time for the dining room. We tried to get it changed to the early time but no dice. Food was good, service was great and we ended up going there three nights. I should add that we purchased the beverage package which was a value for us but the constant barrage of paper receipts got old. We also dined at the steak house one night and the meal was very good. It was a shame that the place was nearly empty. Biggest surprise was the first formal night or whatever they call it on Carnival. It seemed like 90% of the passengers dressed up. The last two cruises I was on in the last year (Holland & NCL) it seemed that hardly anyone dressed up. For breakfast and lunch we stayed with the buffet which I would say was average at best although the burger bar was great. Entertainment was so so. The singing and dancing act was definitely the B team. The casino was very smokey but at least they didn’t allow cigar smoking in there. The piano bar lady put us to sleep. The fitness center was great. Fantastic sauna and steam rooms. We had a good time with good weather at all of the shore visits. Nassau, Grand Turk, Amber Cove and Half Moon Cay. Half Moon Cay was our favorite even though a bucket of beer (six) cost $52 once they added taxes and tip. Half Moon has one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen! Debarkation was wonderful, we docked early and the whole process was quick and orderly. Port of Ft Lauderdale has their act together! Bottom line is that we had a great time with great weather and the crew was very friendly and polite. I wouldn’t sail on the Conquest again because there are too many newer and cleaner ships out there. Read Less
