This was my 12th cruise overall and my 7th with RCI. Traveled with my wife and 2 boys, ages 12 and 14. We chose this particular cruise because we had never been to Bermuda and the ship looked like a winner. We chose wisely. Anthem is truly spectacular. It's large but manageable. There are no lines anywhere, except for some of the more popular activities - the north star, flow rider, indoor sky diving and bumper cars. Make reservations for these activities as soon as you possibly can. The decor of the ship is spectacular. It is clean, new, and extremely well maintained. The food is the best I have experienced on a cruise. The Windjammer was better than most buffets and the crowds are well disbursed. I never once had any trouble finding a table. The main dining room was excellent. We did the sushi class at Izumi - seems corny, but it's actually a lot of fun. Jamie's Italian was the best meal that we had on the shop. Highly recommend. Chops is good, but maybe not worth the extra fee. The casual eateries weren't quite as good. The pizza at Sorrento's is pretty meh. We didn't try Johnny Rockets. I really dug the Irish pub and vintages; a few good beers at the former and some excellent wine flights at the latter. Entertainment was really good. We didn't go to any of the shows, but we caught a couple of bands at the Music Hall. The main draw was the seaplex; if your kids don't spend most of their time there, they have issues. There's basketball, bumper cars, foosball, air hockey, and just about everything I loved in those great days before PS4 and Fortnight. Skip the wifi and force the kids to go have some good old fashioned fun. I know it can be a tall order. iFly indoor skydiving is a must do. It's thrilling, challenging and a lot of fun - a great family activity. The crew on board wasn't the friendliest bunch. I have a feeling that they are pretty much all business because they are dealing with New York clientele who probably prefer it that way. They were efficient and just friendly enough, just like New Yorkers. Embarkation in Bayonne is pretty good but it probably took about 30 minutes to drop the luggage and park the car. Here's a tip...when you get back into port, make a dead sprint to the garage, avoid the elevator, and scoop the wife and kids outside of the garage. You'll thank me for that tip. The wife and I had a junior suite and the boys had an interior across the hall. The suite was awesome - the wife hates sharing a bathroom, so the 1.5 baths in the jr suite was a real bonus. Frankly, the suite could have easily accommodated all 4 of us. Housekeeping was outstanding as usual. Bermuda - It was our only stop and we were there for a full 36 hours. Make sure you book something. We did snuba just off the ship at snorkel park. It was quite an experience. Make sure you make a stop at Horseshoe bay - iconic pink sand beach, and grab a cab over to Hamilton to have some lunch. The Anthem is an awesome ship. I can't imagine a better ship. I'll definitely book it again some day. Read Less

There's a lot of good things about Anthem of the Seas, the ship is in great shape and the food is quite good. Best of all, all the staff we met are first rate and take great pride and care in your trip and making things nice for all. But as far as entertaining and making the trip interesting, this particular itinerary was actually quite poor. First off, the flow of the ship is very awkward. Most of your activities will be on the 3,4,5 level and on the 14,15 level, so if you are constantly shuttling up and down the ship. If you have any patience to wait for the elevators, then its no issue, if you are an impatient New Yorker like me, you will be doing a lot of stairs. Good exercise, but after a while it gets old. Secondly, the shows on this ship were terrible. After seeing 'The Gift' I thought I would never see such a complete mess of a show until the next day I saw 'Spectra' Cabaret, you will surely debate which is worse and it may be a running debate in your family for decades to come. "We will Rock You' was a good production and you will like it for sure if you like Queen music. It does run for 2 hours without a break and is about 30 minutes too long and most people walked out before the final act. Now for the Sports/Activities. This is an issue if you have older, teen aged children who like sports. Unlike Harmony of the Seas which has a dedicated sports area that is nicely woven into the teen room, Anthem makes a complete mess of this by sharing its Seaplex for activities such as Bumper Cars and Roller Skating. There were several days where the bumper cars and skating occupied the Seaplex for 6 to 7 hours a day and teenage kids literally had nothing to do except wait for long periods of time for the 3 ping pong tables. It also meant that little kids and adults were in the teen area, which is obviously not something teens want. Its a great example of RC trying to make everyone happy and thereby making no one happy. There are so many kiddy pools and other areas to make the under 12 crowd happy, your 12-17 year old will not like this cruise. Both of mine did and they loved Harmony of the Seas. So very limited basketball, soccer and virtually no volleyball (one day for an hour). The Vitality Gym is very nice and they also offer pay for classes if you are interested in cycling and other classes. The jogging track is kind of silly unless you do it very early in the am. Its in the middle of the lounging area, so once everyone is up and deckside, you can forget about running as its just chaos. Overall, Anthem is a nice ship and if you are with a big group and just want to hang out and eat and drink, this is a probably a good choice. If you are more of an active traveler who want to see things and have an active vacation with some competitive sports, its not a good choice at all. Some other tips and insights Embarkation at the Bayonne port is very very time consuming about an hour just to swing into the terminal. Either get there really early or really late. We came at about 12:30 and it was an absolute nightmare. If you have a suite, you have access to the Coastal Kitchen, it was a very good experience and the staff are first rate. Read Less

Always cruise Royal Caribbean, they are a big company, great crews with a good reputation and with a big American service, big ships with lots to do on them. People who think you get sea sick on cruises do not realise, on a big ship you do not feel the sea, the ship hardly moves or rocks. Entertainment is great on board with lots to do , variety for all. Ports of call are usually early in the mornings. That gives you all day to enjoy the islands and giving you time for breakfast before you dis-enbark. ecuse my spelling, i am not a robot so you know this is a real rating. The crew are all over you, always asking if you want anything, espesially medicin, aka a drink. Some might say they ask to often, but its more fustrating enjoying a show and cant find a waiter to get your drink. Read Less
