After many ocean cruises on several lines, we went on our first river cruise. We chose Viking and were so impressed with everything about it that we decided to try a Viking ocean cruise. The overall experience was beyond our expectations, which were pretty high. Right from the start we received personalized attention from knowledgeable, efficient and friendly representatives. From booking until the day we boarded our flight, we were in touch and kept up to date on any details we needed to be aware of. We were met at the airport and were taken to the ship where the good times really began. The ship was beautiful. Understated elegance, I would say. With only 900 passengers, we liked the smaller, more intimate atmosphere. Our fellow cruisers were mostly over 60, and no one under 18. A plus for us. Our stateroom (a deluxe veranda) was big enough, and very comfortable. The bathroom was amazing. Room enough for two to use the mirror at the same time and the shower had a door ( no fighting that curtain) and was very spacious. The dining room was open from 6 to 9 each night, with no assigned seating or time, which added to the generally relaxed atmosphere. We never had to wait for a table and joined others each night. The included specialty restaurants were excellent, especially Manfredi's, the Italian one. The food everywhere, in the restaurants, the poolside bar, the World Cafe buffet, was much better that we have had on any other ship We caught a few shows, and enjoyed them. There were good musicians aboard, a pianist, a guitarist and a violin and cello duo that would provide really good music in various areas. There were interesting and very informative port talks each evening covering the next day's destination. Without exception, every member of the staff was friendly and helpful. And more than likely would call us by name. Each port had an included excursion. Each one gave us a taste of the country we were visiting, and every one gave us a taste of their rum punch! The Spa has to be seen to believe. There is everything needed, or wanted, to spend a relaxing time, even a Snow Grotto. Also, there is a well equipped gym. Debarkation was orderly and quick. This cruise has sold us completely on Viking. We will sail with them again Read Less

This was our second Viking Cruise, and it was once again, one FABULOUS trip. From the moment we arrived at the airport, Viking’s attention to service and comfort for their clients kicked in. Since we landed in Newark, they sent a car service, who picked up both us and another couple. The driver was both colorful and informative. Our “check1in” experience was smooth and simple. All employees were very patient, courteous, professional and extremely pleasant. We arrived on the “early side”, so we boarded the ship and were escorted to the World Cafe for a delicious meal. Upon entering, staff asked us to wash our hands. I always like to see that gesture. Our luggage awaited us at our stateroom. We had a Penthouse Veranda. My husband is 6’5”, and he feels the space is more than adequate for him. There was a king-sized bed, lots of storage space, lots of surface space, a large wall-mounted TV, a couch, comfy chair, desk & chair, and make-up mirror built into the desk. There were ample places for plugging-in devices, and ample lighting. The bathroom had an anti-fog mirror, heated a floor, a shower head plus individual wand, a retractable clothesline, shampoo, body wash, conditioner, and a non-skid surface. Dining aboard the ship was always delicious and fun. For breakfast and lunch, you normally had the choice of going to The World Cafe (wonderful buffet), or The Restaurant (order from a menu). For lighter venues, you could eat at the Explorer’s Lounge or the Atrium Bar. On most days lunch was also available at the Pool Grill. Dinners were normally served at The Restaurant, The World Cafe, and two specialty restaurants Manfred’s and The Chef’s Table. Reservations are required in the specialty restaurants. The food was always delish, and the presentation was lovely. Entertainment was terrific. In addition to The Viking Band, there were strong groups, a guitar player, singers, and even a ventriloquist. Spectacular shows, in led music from The Beatles, music from ABBA, and a few other musical shows. Lectures included some about Reagan, historical info on the different places we visited, etc. The Cruise Director was extremely a talented. All included and optional excursions were excellent. We had amazing tour guides in every port. If you see my ratings, they are all excellent. I am a bit picky, so I must say the Viking experience is more than excellent. I strongly recommend people consider Viking Ocean Cruises...they rock! Read Less

Our first Viking ocean cruise and it lived up to all expectations. We loved the "smaller"ship feel and all crew members we encountered went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. I also loved the more casual atmosphere as opposed to other cruise lines. .When we arrived at the airport Viking representatives were right there to greet us and embarking the ship was seamless. Also disembarking was very well organized. I also like that Viking includes complimentary shore excursions in all ports. the "no charge" specialty restaurants were excellent. In fact, my husband had one of the best steaks he had eaten in the specialty Italian restaurant. There was never an "push" to sell things to you...photos, drinks etc. We did a both a galley and bridge tour that was very informative We have sailed with Princess over 32 times but I hope to exceed that with Viking. In fact while on board we booked another cruise for Oct. 2020. The only comment would be more transfers to the airport. Our flight did not leave until 3:00PM but we were shuttled out by 8:30AM which meant a long time at the airport not a great way to end your vacation. Read Less
