Fans of the macabre pilgrimage to the New England city of Salem, just north of Boston, to see firsthand where the legendary witch trials took place. While there's certainly plenty to do in that vein, as one of the oldest cities in the United States, there's more to explore in Salem than the famous Witch House and the "haunted houses" in Salem Witch Village.
This scenic seaside city has a rich maritime past and is dotted with many historic sights and landmarks, including Old Burial Hill, where hundreds of Revolutionary War soldiers are buried; Phillips House, where visitors can get a glimpse of life in the early 20th century, and the Salem Maritime National Historic Site, among many others.
