Why go to Thursday Island?
Remote, untouched, spectacular scenery as far as the eye can see
Beaches are not recommended for swimming because of crocodiles and stingers
Come to discover the history, especially at Green Hill Fort and Museum
Currency & Best Way to Get Money?
The Australian dollar is the only currency accepted on Thursday Island; credit cards are also accepted. The National Australia Bank is located on Douglas St.
English is the main language spoken. There are also five indigenous languages spoken in the Torres Strait and many of the locals also speak Torres Strait Creole, known as 'Broken English'.

Where You're Docked?
Thursday Island is a tender port. The ride from ship to shore takes about 15 minutes. Near the wharf is a table staffed by two locals, who provide maps, directions and suggestions. Within walking distance are four pubs, a cafe, supermarket, post office, pharmacy, churches, AJ's Car Rental, and Gab Tui Cultural Centre.
