Who goes on Arena River Cruises cruise ships?

Arena River Cruises' ships attract mainly Brits, mostly retired and almost all over 60, looking for value rather than luxury. Most sailings feature lots of repeat cruisers. No children under 12 are permitted onboard.

Do I have to dress up on a Arena River Cruises cruise?

Not really. The dress code is casual throughout and the only requirement is that no denim or shorts are worn in the restaurants in the evenings. A once-weekly Captain's Cocktail is a chance to dress more smartly, but there are no formal nights.

Is everything free on Arena River Cruises cruises?

No. The line keeps prices lower by allowing you to bolt on things like drinks (even tea and coffee outside of meal times) and shore excursions. Some excursions are included, but most cost extra. Bar drinks cost extra, as do Wi-Fi and gratuities. All meals are included.

What are Arena River Cruises’s most popular activities?

As with any river cruise, passengers want to be ashore most of the time, and a range of excursions, some included, others optional, are offered. Back onboard, life revolves around the ship's lounge or the sun deck, with an onboard musician to entertain in the evenings and occasional talks or local folklore performances, as well as bingo and quizzes, all of which are typically well attended.

Why go with Arena River Cruises?

  • Some unusual itineraries, like Germany's Rhine in Flames festival, or cruises on the Thames
  • Affordable pricing, with drinks and most excursions kept as optional extras
  • Cruises cater to the U.K. market; travel to the ship from the U.K. by air, train or coach

Best for: Brits looking for a good value on a classic river cruise

Not for: Luxury cruisers or anyone who doesn't want any upcharges

Personally I thought Budapest a little disappointing, though only being there one day is not sufficient to give proper opinion.Cruise manager very good at his job.Read More

Rhine Cruise

Even small people (I am admittedly not one of them) will find these sleeping arrangements really difficul but to my amazement it drew little criticism from any one else of they had wanted to share their room secrets with me.The Lucy Anne is best described as quaint, it is one of the smaller River Cruise liners taking on a maximum of 100 passengers, it was often dwarfed by the many other River Liners which if space is your thing then you need to take that on board (pun not intended).Read More

Good but disappointed.

Having done many ocean cruises we decided to try a river cruise and this itinerary was ideal, we were fully escorted from St Pancras and the escort/guide was very good. There was a quiz night organised one night which was good and properly run.Read More

All in all a good Cruise but will not be using this ship again until it uses double beds which I don't think will be some time soon.It would have been good like lat time to have imported local Musicians from the last port of call.Read More
