I sailed with them before on a river cruise the year before and loved it. Although the ports of call were changed due to the conflict in Israel, we were very happy with the replacement ports of Cyprus and Malta. 

The ship’s crew was fantastic. Always helpful and smiling. The ship itself is beautiful. The shore excursions (both included and optional) were great selections. Our only wish was that we could have stayed longer. 

The food was amazing at all three restaurants. Our favorite was Manfriedes. The international cafe always met our needs when we were busy. 

The spa treatments and massages were wonderful.  We tried out all of the amenities and loved each of them.  The pool and jacuzzi were top notch, the snow room and sauna were just what we needed. 

Because of our excursions schedule we opted to have breakfast delivered most days. It was punctual and always hot.  We did try late night service, I recommend the chili fries.

Land of Antiquities and Holy Land 

Viking shipboard service was impeccable. 

The included excursions did not always match their descriptions, especially the driving excursions. 

Some of the excursion guides seemed to lack training and enthusiasm which made the excursion below expectations. 

Viking food was okay, nothing special 

Twice menu items preselected for medical diet were unavailable because the wrong menu was presented which indicated a lack of communication. 

This ocean cruise makes me appreciate land tours even more. 

The decor in the ship is a bit sterile 

Confusion with accounting as Viking gave shipboard credits for removing Jerusalem from itinerary. 

When I tried to use the credits for excursions I was told they were onboard credits only .

Viking suggested canceling prepaid gratuities and use credits to pay gratuities, which I did. 

However, when on board , Viking stated the credits were used for excursion and I still owed for gratuities. We finally got the account balance reconciled but it revealed a lack of communication between booking, accounting and on board billing. 

On board support had difficulty understanding the transaction history as their online systems did not provide that level of detail.

Expected more activity on board and enthusiastic excursion guides

While most of us were disappointed in not being able to visit The Holy Lands - we certainly understood and found Malta to be an excellent alternative. We thoroughly enjoyed the Greek islands and had wonderful excursions with the exception of Cyprus. The excursion in Cyprus was interesting but it seemed as if there was little pride in the island - many abandoned residential and commercial buildings, much litter and more graffiti than seen elsewhere plus the commercial stops seemed more like tourist traps than of true cultural value.

The ship is beautiful and impeccably maintained. The quality of the food can compete with the finest establishments anywhere.

The lecture offerings and nightly entertainment were simply outstanding.

But, the strongest strength is clearly the staff - absolutely the best. The positive training is obvious amongst all of them. They are just terrific.

Most amazing? Our flight from Rome to Frankfurt  was delayed twice before we even took off. Arriving in Frankfurt it was obvious that we had missed our connecting flight. Clearly we were not looking forward to an afternoon of re-booking, probably spending the night, finding our luggage, arranging for meals and transportation to and from the airport etc.. We gathered our things and walked off of the plane only to enter the terminal and immediately find 2 Viking representatives waiting for us with re-booked airline arrangements and directions to the next departure gate - just amazing! Viking clearly demonstrated their professionalism - super PR and why we had already re-booked another cruise and will share this example with others considering a cruise.

Also much appreciated the access to laundry facilities - next time we will pack far fewer clothes!

Cities of Antiquity and The Holy Lands

We chose this British Isles Explorer cruise because we have been on several Viking River cruises and have always loved the service and facilities that Viking offers.  I am of English, Welsh and Scottish heritage and was very anxious to see the area.   Because of the weather we were unable to go to Wales, Ulapool, the Scottish Highlands and the Shetland Islands and missed 4 shore excursions which was very disappointing to us.   I know that  Viking had the responsibility of keeping the passengers safe and certainly could do nothing about the horrible weather but we did feel like we missed out on an awful lot and hoped that Viking may be able to compensate us for all that we missed on shore.    Our on ship experiences were fantastic though.   The food was wonderful, entertainment on the ship was fantastic.  The staff were all delightful, helpful and tried to make the best of our rocky and rainy ride.   Our room steward did an excellent job of caring for our every need and our cruise director was  the best!

Rocky and Disappointing

This is our second ocean cruise with Viking.  We have also completed four Viking river cruises.  

We chose the Great Britain Cruise because of the exceptional excursions offered and our past excellent experience with Viking cruises.  All the Viking staff, from the embarkation staff, restaurant servers and chefs to our personal cabin steward provided exceptional service.  Everyone went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed, on a daily basis, to maximize our cruise experience. 

There were several days when we couldn't go into the Port of Call because of the weather.  Everyone from the Ship's Captain, the Cruise Director, On-Board Lecturers, Cabin and Restaurant Staff pivoted flawlessly.  And when we encountered high seas, our Cabin and Restaurant Staff were instrumental in ensuring our passage was free of sea sickness.

The topics of the guest lecturers "NATO: The Cause or the Solution?, the Enigma Machine, and Bonnie Prince Charlie & The Jacobite Rebellions are just a few of the excellent on-board lectures presented during our journey.

The land excursions were exceptional.  Seeing the Orkney Islands and the ancient site of Brodgar were mind blowing as well as walking the hallowed ground of St. Andrews Golf Course.

All and all an incredible journey.

Great Britain Cruise Sep 2023

This was our first time on a Viking cruise. We had taken many other cruises with various different companies in the past.

We had heard good things about Viking. 

Both my husband and I thought the entire cruise was just average. We did experience bad weather during our cruise and missed a total of 4 ports, so instead of only having 1 sea day we had 5.

The company said since it was weather related, they could not reimburse us for any of the trip. We felt this not good customer service, and may not choose them again for travel.

Staff on ship was excellent.

Food was average.

Some included shore excursions  were poor and self pay ones were very expensive.

Entertainment  on ship was good when they had special singer and piano player,but other nights lacked talent.

Little to do on ship on extra days we were at sea, staff had no back up plans.

Viking did not live up to its rating.

Halifax

Being a Danish-American, and wanting to tack a aft-visit to Copenhagen after our voyage, we gravitated to the British Isles Explorer tour with Viking.  We were fortunate to have excellent weather and no port changes so our travels were wonderful!  The ship was excellent, couldn't have been better, but the star of our trip was the staff.  From our cabin steward, YaYa, to just polite hellos from restaurant staff, to the strong arm of assistance for boarding our transport tenders, to the head chef that gave us a galley tour, to the Cruise director who gave us humorous and informative Port Talks everyday, everyone was fantastic!!!  Really enjoyed the World Cafe (just one floor up from our 6th floor beautiful suite), and Scotland, Shetland Islands, and Orkney Islands,  and all their excursions  were unbelieveably beautiful.  Downsides were few:  got sick mid-cruise and had to spend 3-4 days recovering in our room (good reason to get as large a suite as you can afford) and , excursion buses were "posh", guides good, but a couple of excursions fell short, "Isle of Man", Wales excursion, and "London at night" had shortcomings. The four-stop international flights were "tough" and the the hardest part of the travel.  Munich airport was most unwelcoming..... Viking ocean cruises are the very best in their endeavors and execution.

We were looking for a cruise ship that had less people, and better shore excursions.  Viking Ocean Venus provided us with everything we asked for.  The itinerary was diverse, the Deluxe Veranda cabin was just enough without loosing any of the Viking experience.  Food was great, we liked the buffet so much we spent most of the meals there instead of the restaurant.  Entertainment was just enough and the included tours and included shuttles were everything .Loved the whole experience.  This is truly not a party ship it is more of a ship to explore.   My only Cons which were really small , I would have wished for maybe speakers who did some local desserts or bread talks or family life talks of the region.  I also wish the Viking band started earlier.  Additionally the specialty dining at Manfredi's was a bit confusing.  We could never get a 2 person table reservation prior to 8Pm. However during a meal with had with our one reserved meal with a group of 6  unknowns  at 6Pm there were plenty of 2 person tables available throughout the 2 hour meal.  Sad because we would have loved to return if we could have gotten a table for two earlier on any of our 15 night cruise.

Fabulous cruise with great weather

This was my very first cruise and our first travel since Covid canceled earlier post retirement plans. My wife and I had been intrigued by Viking from watching their ads on PBS Masterpiece. Friends of ours had also strongly recommended Viking so we had high expectations. Those expectations were met and exceeded. The ship, the staff, the food, our room and the excursions were first class in every respect. Every employee of Viking we interacted with from the planning stage to being delivered to the airport for our return flight was knowledgeable and professional. Each one seem personally concerned with giving us the best experience possible. And they did! 

We did the pre-cruise extension to Norway and it was money well spent. One of the attractions of the extension was a scenic train ride from Oslo to Bergen. Unfortunately it was canceled due to landslides along the route from heavy rain earlier in August. Rather than rail, we had to make the journey by bus. It was still very scenic but missing the train ride was a disappointment but we realize weather is beyond Viking's control. It was then a very pleasant surprise to receive an email from Viking shortly after we returned home advising us we each had a $500 credit with Viking because of the canceled train trip. That was a very classy, if unnecessary,  thing to do and increased our desire to travel with Viking again. We will certainly be recommending Viking to all of our friends and acquaintances and are looking forward to our next trip.

Viking is First Class in Evert Respect

We chose to cruise with Viking because friends and relatives had raved about their cruises with the company. It was excellent advice! We decided to go on the Viking Homelands cruise because I had always wanted to visit Scandinavia, and this cruise had shore excursions in Sweden, the Aland Islands of Finland, Denmark, and Norway, so it fit what I was looking for. I could not have been happier that we made this choice. 

The service onboard was impeccable, the restaurant choices were varied, the food was delicious, the shore excursions were interesting and very well organized, and the ship is beautiful and easy to get around. The entire staff, from the captain and crew members to the Cruise Director and Assistant Cruise Director, entertainers, wait staff, chefs, cooks, valets, Guest Services staff, cleaning staff, engineers, and repair staff were very friendly, accessible, pleasant, helpful, and efficient, and always greeted us with a smile. The entertainment was very professional and enjoyable too. 

Viking offers an exceptional product, and we would be very happy to sail with them again. We arranged our own flights through our travel agent, which we recommend doing. We arrived in Stockholm five days before the beginning of our cruise to give ourselves time to overcome jet-lag, get oriented, and see more of the city. We also took the post-cruise extension of two extra days in Bergen, the scenic train ride across Norway, and two extra days in Oslo, which was delightful. We highly recommend Viking, arranging your own flights, and coming into the departure city a number of days early!
