True North, what an experience.  It would have to be the best cruise we have experienced.  Captain Gav and his crew were "Simply the Best!!"  Treated us like family.

If you want an experience The Kimberley Region and all it has to offer, then these are the people to show you it all.  From the tender boat rides which included fishing - OMG was that something, mud crabbing.  Then if you just want to experience the beauty of the gorges and waterfalls you've got it, either by tender boats or the helicopter with Sam your pilot.  Deke ticked off his bucket list the Mitchell Falls, this was everything he had hoped for and it did not disappoint him, it was breathtaking, now my bucket list was to have a shower under one of the waterfalls - OMG what an experience!!  Fist one was when the tender boat took us up to the waterfalls and those mad enough sat on the front of the boat and enjoyed a shower - then, Captain Gav. took the True North with the help of one of the crew to one of the larger waterfalls and again, those mad enough (that's me!!) had another shower.  Well done Gav. you were incredible to get the ship up so close to the waterfall.

The tender boat rides took us to some amazing waterholes (no Crocs!!) where we were able to swim and explore the gorges.

We had this amazing BBQ which we got to via Sam and his helicopter, nestled in under a large rock shelf overlooking a beautiful rock pool which you could have a short walk down some rocks and enjoy a swim.  Our lovey chefs and crew arrived prior to us and set up the BBQ and seating, this was no ordinary BBQ, marinated fillet eye steak, marinated fish and chicken pieces, sausages and a lovely selection of salads and garlic bread, lovely finger food deserts,  Champagne, beer, wine and soft drink.

The chefs were 10 star rated - food to die for and so beautifully presented.  Girls, you were just beautiful, boy you never stopped working, our rooms were spotless and the service behind the bar or when you served the food was 10/10.  You joined in the dancing and fun at  night and didn't close the bar until everyone had said "good night".  In the morning you were bright eyed and bushy tail ready to start again!!

The beauty of only have 36 visitors was so good.  It meant you had this lovely atmosphere where you got to talk to everyone and we have made some truly beautiful friends which you do not get on the larger cruise liners.

Final night, we enjoyed an evening where Hanna put together a selection of photos of our trip which we all watched and what a lovely surprise, we were all given a thumb drive to take home.

What an experience - cannot rate you guys high enough - you were so professional in everything you did but kept it more like a large family that guests and staff !!

Most reviews focus on luxury and the ship’s amenities, but when on an expedition cruise, especially in remote areas, the safety of guests is often overlooked.

During a fishing excursion a fellow guest experienced a subtle but potentially very serious medical event. Nick who was the guide was very observant to notice and assess the situation. He immediately radioed the ship and commenced a return to True North and requested assistance.  Upon arrival at the ship a team of 6 crew members were assembled with extensive medical equipment.

Fortunately the guest recovered over the next 24 hours and was able to continue the cruise. The manner in which this event was managed by the crew of True North was exemplary, and assured me that should I be unfortunate to experience something similar, then my well-being would be in excellent hands.

The highlight of the cruise was having late afternoon drinks on an island in the Montebello group, and watching a nest of turtles hatch, then make their way down the beach and into the ocean. All guests were genuinely moved by this special experience. 

The cruise was named “West coast explorer” and included many great locations, but the rarely visited Montebello Islands were stunning.

It is not always about luxury.

We were lucky enough to do a 10day cruise to the Rowley Shoals and then up the Kimberley coast late last year to Wyndham and I cannot speak more highly of the experience. It was truly magical and I revisit the Heli picnic location whenever I meditate or need to take 5 to breathe - it will forever be embedded as one of the most memorably beautiful spots in the world and has become my happy place. Everyone asks after saying you have been on the True North "is it as good as they say", and I have to say it is better!!! The Kimberley is so breathtaking and no one knows it like the True North.  The team are so helpful and nothing is too much trouble. I will say this it is not a "lie by the pool experience" it is an - I am up at dawn so I don't miss a second of this holiday. Sign up for everything you can - you will not be disappointed, truly a once in a lifetime never to be forgotten experience.

Beyond All Expectations - A truly magnificent experience

We recently did the 13-night Wyndham to Broome "Kimberley Ultimate" cruise on True North travelling "River Class" (the mid-level of 3 options). We had done the identical trip twice before (2014 & 2017) at the same time of year on a smaller (18 guest) top quality vessel but True North simply outshone our earlier trips in every way. The suites are luxurious (we could not fault a single thing), the staff are enthusiastic, knowledgeable, ultra-friendly and respectful (to all the guests, most of whom are beyond middle age and retired). The choice of activities is unlimited and we chose to fish most times and caught some record-setting fish (for us) including 4 barramundi, one of which was 103cm. There are also many nature trips available on the comfortable tenders (led by naturalist Nat) plus a regular choice of challenging (to very challenging) walks (lets be honest - cliff climbs!!) to crocodile-free swimming holes - plus endless opportunities to enjoy scenic helicopter flights. The food is gourmet quality and the barista quality coffee is available at all times. Wine is on a pay as you go basis with a good choice and remarkably reasonable mark-ups. A True North cruise is simply the best adventure holiday you can take. We wanted for nothing. Thank you Captain Ben and our warmest thank-you to every member of the crew! It's not inexpensive but worth every dollar. Just do it.

Simply fantastic

Without doubt the Kimberley region is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Few people get to see it from the Indian Ocean ... even fewer from the comforts of the True North in the company of such amazing staff. This was a holiday that was much more - an education, a revelation, a privilege and - an opportunity to engage with unbelievably professional staff and wonderfully interesting fellow travellers. 

There aren't too many places left which truly feel untouched ... with no footprints, where one does not want to leave a trace. Cathedral rocks, freshwater pools, mangrove mazes and pitch black catacombs welcomed us just as they did the amazing artists who mysteriously painted the ancient rock art into the landscape tens of thousands of years ago.

Jo-Lee at the bar remembered everyone's favorite drinks, Tegan as cruise co-ordinator was fantastic in ensuring our specific needs were attended to always, Pete Hall (hallie) taught me more about catching Barra in 10 mins than I'd ever learnt in my whole life. Mick taught me how to throw a cast net in one easy lesson and Nat gave me the confidence to hold a slithering snake without  fear. Georgia impressed everyone with her magnificent hand drawn graphics and Sean and Kei were brilliant tender skippers. My first hand picked/fresh shucked oyster was delicious and the  experience of pulling mud crabs in the mangroves was awesome. Ben the skipper was magnificent in allowing the whales (5 humpbacks) to sidle right up to the True North (I'm talking 5 metres away) ... they came to us.

The ship itself had 6 tenders .. aluminium dinghys for excursions - giving a level of comfort and safety (in crocodile waters) not afforded from a blow up zodiac type. I would personally not like to be sitting on the gunnel of a zodiac in the Kimberely. 

Evenings on board consisted of the evening meal (chef addresses each table) ... a run down of the days activities and what's  on tomorrow... followed by drinks at the bar, usually recorded music (although with 2 house guitars on board we were lucky enough to have a couple of musos play live on a couple of nights). The crew organised a fun quiz night and also a dress up party night for everyone ... both great fun.

I cannot speak highly enough of every aspect of our time on the True North. Much more than just a holiday ... my wife calls it a spiritual experience.

Our footprints may have washed away ... however we carry memories to last a lifetime. The bonus for me? ... I was inspired to finish writing a song I'd been working on for some time.

A Gift From God

This extraordinary experience of the majestic Kimberley region provided me with wonderful memories for a lifetime. The crew were amazing and went out of their way to facilitate an unforgettable cruise. 

I had a vague idea of what to expect to see but this trip takes in some of the most breathtaking locations of the Kimberley including; Montgomery Reef, Horizontal Falls, King George River, Mitchell Falls, Hunter River..the list goes on. 

Take the helicopter package it really does provide the most amazing perspective of the grandeur and size of each location. 

The food was of exceptional quality and variety. Unfortunately I will need to lose a few kilos post holiday. 

The cabins were well appointed and very clean, no complaints.  

Highly recommend this cruise to anyone who is keen to be amazed by our beautiful country, its remote wilderness and its heritage. 

I will be travelling True North again and looking forward to a new adventure.

Wonderful memories 

Wow, wow, wow. Our week on True North was by far the best holiday we have ever had. The Kimberley region is a spectacular location for a holiday but being able to see it with True North was what really made it. All of the staff on board were friendly, easy going and professional. They took the time to get to know guests and provided an exceptional service. The food prepared by the chefs was ample and delicious. The chefs were accommodating to specific requests and also happy to share recipes for favourite meals. Housekeeping was done promptly and discreetly and the rooms were very comfortable. Jo-Lee in the bar made excellent cocktails and was familiar with guests usual drinks. There were always loads of great activities on offer and the staff had an immense knowledge and passion for the region and it’s history which was incredibly contagious. I am so, so glad we got to experience True North and would not hesitate to explore with her again.

Phenomenal holiday 

For many years we have heard of the wonderful experiences people have had on True North and it has been on our bucket list for some time. We went on the Kimberley Waterfall Cruise departing from Broome in April 2019.  We were collected from our accommodation in Broome and taken to the ship at the Port.  Here we were met by the friendly young crew of True North and given name badges (very useful) and a welcome drink.  After some mingling with the other passengers and crew we were taken to our cabin by one of the crew and shown through the various facilities (daily laundry service was included - how fantastic).  After a chef prepared dinner (every meal was simply sensational) we were given details of where we would be travelling to over night and the options of activities available the next day (a process that occurred each evening).  The choices always covered peoples capabilities and interests.  During the course of our 10 night cruise, I fished (and I had very limited previous experience and the staff were always patient and helpful - and with a sense of humour) and caught fish, I climbed up rock paths to water holes and water pools, visited the most amazing rock art sites, stood on the bow of the ship under a waterfall, had heli picnics (such an incredible experience flying in to an isolated water fall to see a tarp, chairs and BBQ set up), leaned much about the area and its history from the onboard naturalist, saw crocodiles and beautiful sunrises and sunsets.  The list goes on.

After a day out in the sunshine experiencing the wonderful Kimberley Coast you returned to an airconditioned boat for evening cocktails, a beautifully cleaned room (every cabin has its own bathroom) and the most delightful staff who are always friendly and upbeat. The trip is expensive (as you would expect) but certainly was worth every penny.  I am definitely planning to travel with them again in a few years.

A trip of a lifetime

Did the 10 night "Kimberley Waterfalls" trip with 34 other passengers from Broome, WA to Wyndam. Everything on the boat from the cabin, to the food, to the service was first class. The 21 crew members were young, energetic, friendly and very helpful. The activities which are tightly scheduled included fishing, walks, helicopter flights, swimming, picnics and naturalist led excisions. Some of these take a moderate level of fitness so if you are a couch potato this probably isn't the trip for you.  Also, there is no nightly entertainment and on many mornings breakfast was at six dependent on the tides.On our voyage there were five Americans and the rest of the passengers were Australians. Everyone was most cordial and mixed well. 

       The cabin size was comparable to what we'd experienced on much larger ships and the bathroom was larger. There is plenty of storage. Dress is totally casual. Bare foot, shorts and tops. The food was excellent and often included fish caught that day by passengers.

There are no meal choices except at breakfast but this was never a problem because everything served was delicious.

A Great Adventure

I had seen the promotional videos of TrueNorth and met some of the crew when TrueNorth was in Sydney in 2018 and I thought at the time - wow, I would love to do this.

I was fortunate that an opportunity landed at my door, I needed to be in Broome and it happened for me.

I had the most amazing time, I did not envisage that it was going to be as good as it was.  Someone had said to me 'it is difficult to put into words what a trip on the TrueNorth is like, you just have to experience it'.  They are correct!

A TrueNorth adventure is an experience that you will not get anywhere else.  It is a combination of experienced and professional staff, incredible beautiful and remote places in the Kimberley, a boat/ship that is purpose built to take you places to enjoy and immerse yourself in adventures that are wonders of the world.  

Each day I thought, if the trip stopped now, I have seen/experienced and done things I have not previously done - I would die happy.

I am planning on going on another cruise, there are so many adventures that TrueNorth do that would rock my boat - my next one I think will be the Rowley Shoals.

If you only get the chance to do one adventure in your life, do one of the TrueNorth cruises, they are worth every penny!
