The Marco Polo is an old ship but she's been lovingly looked after. She's kept spotlessly clean by the staff. The cabin we had (for 3 people) was a little small (I had the top "bunk") but again it's clean and perfect for our cruise of a week. It's not a big ship (800 passengers) and that means it doesn't feel impersonal by any means. The choice of food in both restaurants is amazing - tasty and plentiful. You won't starve on this ship. Free tea and coffee and water available at all times. Never ran out of anything. All crew were lovely, friendly and helpful. If you suffer from sea sickness then ask for a cabin on the lower floors. We were on the Navigator deck and we could feel movement , tho not unpleasant. The cruise we did was down the Seine from Bristol, stopping at Honfleur (so pretty), Rouen (ok), Guernsey (lovely) and Scilly isles. The ship doesn't go into port at the Scilly isles and the sea too rough for the tender so we couldn't do that trip sadly. Overall, I would highly recommend her. Read Less

We wanted a taste of river cruising so this seemed ideal. Embarkation at Poole was quick however a little back to front, you picked up your cruise card at the port, then got on the ship to "check in", have passports checked etc, then were taken to your cabin where your room keys were waiting for you. We booked last minute so the only available cabin was "Inside Guarantee" which was surprisingly larger than expected although really disappointed that the beds could not be put together to form a double. No kettle/tea/coffee making facilities. Bath in bathroom was a bonus. Entertainment was pretty basic, don't get me wrong, the all worked really, really hard but don't expect any Broadway type shows! We found the menu in the Restaurant quite limited and basic, and the portions fairly small. Staff were really helpful and friendly, no long waits at either bar or restaurants. Cocktail of the Day was a nice touch. No "snacks" available late night or if you miss breakfast (which ends at 930am) Due to bad weather most out door areas were mostly closed and the crossing both there and back was the worst I've ever experienced, sick bags and sickness pills were in plentiful supply! Both stops (Honfleur and Rouen) were really pretty, we did not book excursions but visited the areas where the shuttle bus dropped you. Casino was a bit of a waste really, only 1 member of staff to run a Blackjack Table or Roulette Table alternatively between giving out tokens for the slots. Read Less

I have always wanted to visit Tasmania and this cruise was advertised at a reasonable rate in the Sunday Mail. As this is the final voyage from Australia of the Astor I was not expecting much. We were surprised pleasantly by the cabin size and ample storage. The water pressure and hot water availability was faultless. The waste system operated faultlessly unlike other cruises we have completed. The food was incredible. The bar staff were knowledgeable and hospitable. A special mention for the entertainment staff and in particular the extremely hard working dancers. The shows kept getting better. The Captain was a true gentleman and exceptional host. Housekeeping and general cleanliness was to a very high standard. The spa was a pleasure to visit. The sauna and co located internal swimming pool were immaculately clean and attended by staff. I wasn’t expecting much from an aged ship on a relatively minor shipping line but I was constantly surprised and delighted from start to finish. Thank you CMV. Read Less

We decided on a cruise around Britain departing on the 7th April for my partners birthday on the 19th when we returned home .I have to say we were very- very disappointed with every aspect except the cabin as it was spacious for a small ship .The food was like a load of cardboard at breakfast in the upstairs bistro ( if you could obtain a seat ) often undercooked and only warm with no small yogurts only in dishes with no indication as to the content even in the restaurant it was a bit hit and miss as you sat any where as a lot of the fellow passengers seemed reluctant to talk as only the Americans & Canadians seemed chatty as the class structure is still alive . At night in the allocated restaurant the servers were very surly with very small helpings and often only warm as my partner sent hers back nearly every time compared to other ships it was very poor more like a cross channel ferry . As for the entertainment it did not last even an hour with passengers saving seats often rows of them so only the poorest seats available with no interaction with the crew as I did mention the seat situation but it was met with deaf ears .Talking of the crew we noticed that there was very poor communication skills as I did not meet one British person wearing a uniform it seemed the norm just to laugh at the passengers and they would go away. There are better cruise companies and ships so do your home work. Read Less

We are seasoned cruisers but it was my first time on Cruise and Maritime. The cruise was wonderful. Good weather, great ports, superb excursions. A very comfortable & large inside cabin as well, Food in my opinion was excellent. So why the rating. The following let the ship down. The ship was full, 1, insufficient seats in the buffet for people to have their meals at breakfast & lunch in a civilised, relaxed and orderly manner on sea days & excursion days.it was like a rugby scrum. You literally had to put something on your seat before getting food otherwise someone else would take it. you could not sit and chat after you finished as people would hover over you with their breakfast or lunch waiting to sit down. The restaurant was waiter served and I believe they could easily have made this part buffet as well as other cruise companies have done. 2, frequently no cutlery, mugs, glasses and plates and when this happened they were brought it was a few at a time hot from the dishwasher. Furniture too low to be comfortable 3,Cocktails Frequently the ingredients were changed to make them & cordial was added to mask the no/little alchohol added' I was told that i had to accept inferior products for them at standard prices e.g. cherry liqueur rather than cherry brandy . I sent one back 4 times before I got what i was supposed to have. For that to occur I stood and watched him make it. 4,Poorly equipped Shop no paracetamol, plasters limited toiletries' choice but plenty of olive oil, bubblegum and cigarettes. If I was Cruise and Maritime I would send some undercover management as passengers to go on this ship and I bet they would be amazed at what goes on. Read Less

Embarkation at Newcastle was efficient and quick. Suitcases arrived at our cabin very quickly. We had cabin 5016, small but with an extremely comfortable queen sized bed, plenty of room for clothes and spotlessly clean. We found the whole cruise extremely enjoyable, staff friendly & efficient, food absolutely amazing, plenty of activities and good entertainment. Information onboard was good, other passengers very friendly, the ship was easy to negotiate and we thought just a nice size. Plenty of sunbeds on various decks and always a quiet corner if you wanted that. Would not hesitate to book again, very good value for money- well done CMV. Don't know where the negative comments come from, if you want to pay thousands for a cruise do so, but don't be so negative - its a holiday- just enjoy it. All the staff onboard just wanted everyone to have a good time , you can't ask for more. Read Less

I have to agree with ThomasUK. We have also just returned from trip to Fjords, sailing from Newcastle. From embarkation, very quick, to leaving, the staff were efficient, cheerful and helpful. Our cabin steward was excellent and couldn't do enough to help, our waiter in one of the main dining rooms was always smiling and nothing was too much trouble, his young assistant likewise. Everywhere around the ship the staff greeted the passengers with a smile. yes the ship is old but it is spotlessly clean and it is unfair to compare it to other lines, it is half the price. Food and entertainment were very good. I unfortunately needed the services of the medical team but again they were first class. Cabins are not large but enough for two people and beds were comfortable. My only complaint would be the noise from the engine during the night but that is no one's fault. All in all it was an enjoyable cruise with breath taking scenery in the fjords. Read Less

We chose this round British Isles cruise for the itinerary as it started in Tilbury and we really wanted to see the Isle of Skye, Tobermory and St Mary's in the Isles of Scilly. However, due to various dubious reasons we did not call into these 3 ports which ruined the whole trip. I do not trust this cruise company, I think they do things cheaply and they do not tell the truth. The boats are tired and worn and the staff looked really miserable.I would not use this company again and I would not recommend them to anyone else. It should be said that you get what you pay for and this cruise did look good, perhaps too good to be true and it is done on the cheap. The food choice in the buffet at times was inedible and cold, I would recommend the restaurant for lunch and dinner, if you can get in.The entertainment is ok and they do their best, but there is not much to do during the day if you are at sea all day. Since returning I have found many reviews where the boats have not carried out the published itinerary, so I think that is the main problem with this cruise company. Read Less

We wanted to take my elderly parents to Skye, Mull and Isles of Scilly (mid 80's and probably the last opportunity for them). Strange to read that another May 18 sailing of Columbus 'had engine trouble' and so couldn't visit any of these three ports?!? We booked through saga and I'm really surprised that they would use this cruise line if, as is indicated - the Captain has no intention of going into those prime ports? What we saw we enjoyed but bitterly disappointed to miss out. Food in restaurant was excellent, also entertainment, staff were well trained and friendly. Negative - our bed was rock hard so I asked for a mattress topper - when I stripped the bed - I wished I hadn't, the under-bedding and pillows were filthy with stains all over. this was changed at my request. Shore excursions were approx £50 per person for a 4 hour trip - too expensive. Finally, we've come home with THE most terrible bug, 2 wks later - still very ill Read Less

I sailed from Dundee, not Newcastle but the option to put that on the review wasn’t there! First cruise for me and I went alone. Boarding was quick, efficient and simple. Plenty of staff to show you the way to your cabin. I felt the whole trip (to the Norwegian fjords) was extremely good value for money. Excursions were well organised and informative. On board activities were fun and well attended. The restaurants were efficient, friendly staff and good food. The Chef’s Table was a superb evening. Book it if you get a chance. Cabin was clean and spacious and tended twice daily. If I had read some of the awful reviews before going I might have cancelled but I have absolutely no complaints. This isn’t a 5 star luxury miner so if you want that, go elsewhere. It is a small(ish) friendly ship which I really loved. I will sail with this company again. Read Less

Chose this ship and cruise because I didn't want to holiday on a ship that held thousands! Was my first cruise on a larger ship, having only done river cruises, so was a bit apprehensive, but once embarked, everything went smoothly, and I didn't find the amount of passengers on board too daunting. This was a cruise that included the Shetlands and Orkneys, as well as Iceland and I enjoyed every port of call. I thought Rekyavik was beautifully clean and fresh, as was Lerwick and Kirkwall. Disembarkation too went smoothly and I was off the ship in less than 10 minutes. Personally I wouldn't use Raffles self service as it was a free for all and seating was difficult to find, plus many persons were lacking in manners! So I dined all three meal servings in one of the two waited restaurants, and I couldn't fault the service from waiters and most days the food was good. As for the show entertainment in the theatre - well, I've seen many West End productions and the shows on the Magellan excelled and were thoroughly enjoyable. All-in-all, generally for me it was a very good cruise and value for the money I paid. We did encounter some rough seas - only to be expected in that area, but if you were careful, and took heed of the advice given, walking around on ship was easily negotiable. And sea sick pills were given out free from reception desk! Read Less

We booked to go on the Easter Getaway and River Seine Cruise as I so wanted to go again to the Scilly Isles again after 30 years and as I had never been to Guernsey that too was a great attraction. As we were finishing our booking in procedure I happened to notice a flyer saying due to adverse weather we would after all not be going to both the Scily Islands or Guernsey! At this point we both felt like turning round and going home,we were now going to Rotterdam Cherbourg and Portsmouth!! We unfortunately carried on with the cruise as we thought we had no other option and we can go to Rouen and Honfleur as we had never been there and they were as we were told very pretty we had booked an Excursion and were looking forward to that. We were shown our cabin 7038 inside as that was all that was available at the time of booking it was very clean no frills but adequate, but also very noisy the district roar we hoped it would substitute as we sailed away ,this was not the case it was like sleeping next to the mother way.On complaining to reception a engineer came and listened and said go back to reception and speak to them, which I dully did and nothing was done. To cut a long story short we could not sleep for a week Rotterdam was dire so was Cherbourg Portsmouth was as we have been to many times before. On sailing up the Seine the Captain informed us we could not go to Rouen as there was a strike!!The whole cruise was a disaster.Needless to say we will never go with Cruise and maritime again I must add when sailing from Cherbourg to Portsmouth we met to adverse weather conditions. I booked because I wanted to go to the Scilly Isles. The other stops also looked good. My daughter wanted to re-visit Guernsey. The five ports all held interest for us. When we got on board I noticed a leaflet on my bed regarding a shore visit to Cherbourg, this was not a port on our itinerary and I panicked thinking we were on the wrong boat. Then I saw there was a change of ports, due to bad weather. We were being taken to Cherbourg and Portsmouth instead of The Scilly Isles and Guernsey. To my mind the only reason to go to Cherbourg is to get off a car ferry and head straight out. Well as for Portsmouth, only an hour away from home and another place very low on the want to visit list. It beggars belief that the cruise line thinks these were a good exchange. The cruise line knew of the change before we boarded. They should have offered a refund before sailing if had wished one. To make matters worse the French dockers were on strike and we never got to Rouen. Only two ports were of interest. Had we known about the change we would not have gone on this cruise. Such a disappointment, it ruined our holiday. The cruise line we felt had "made us prisoners" we were certainly taken places against our will. The ship itself held a mixture of feelings. We had to sort out problems. There were two cabins booked for myself, daughter and grandchildren. Yet they put us on different sittings, so we had to alter that. The cabins were very hot and that had to be seen to. The toilet in my cabin blocked three times and on a fourth time it flooded. The cabin was very noisy, a large notice at reception said the boat was full and there would be no changing of cabins. I and my daughter are very heavy sleepers, but we were kept awake most of the night, and my daughter ended up like a bear with a sore tooth. The food was reasonable, but not for foodies. The shows were for a mixture of tastes and some, especially the Easter Panto, were very enjoyable. The staff were all very polite and helpful with smiles (except the reception desk, no smiles there) The cocktails were nothing 'to write home about', had much better on other cruise lines. I asked for some monetary compensation but the cruise line will not give me any. That would have helped to sweeten the bitter taste. Therefore this is not a cruise line I shall use again, and certainly will not recommend, in fact I shall advise against them. Had we been aboard and the weather worsened so we could not go to our chosen destinations I may have felt a little sympathetic, but they knew before we got on and could have said something. Very dishonest. Read Less

We boarded at Tilbury and was shown our cabin 5136. We had to call reception as water was coming up through the shower drain, but this was soon fixed by an engineer. We was surprised by the number of very old and less mobile passengers on this cruise, walking sticks, Zimmer frames and mobile chairs. We later found out this cruise was used by Saga. This had obvious problems when disembarking and embarking at the various ports of call. The ship on first impression looked modern but there is something fundamentally wrong with it. Had I read the reviews of December 2017 and January 2018 beforehand we would not of booked this cruise. The ship was very noisy, there was a constant smell of sewage outside the cabins and in reception area , the lounges would be cold due to the air conditioning temperature being too low, there was a constant sound of people coughing and yes we also went down with a chest infection. The Kensington restaurant was excellent but we found the Waldorf service disappointing. Raffles Bistro was like a canteen. Entertainment enjoyable. Read Less

We choose the cruise because of the places it visited. Almost immediately we realised the number of people with mobility issues, were frail and elderly or had other serious health issues who were on the cruise. As we embarked we followed an elderly couple, she was in a large wheelchair and he used a walker with a seat on which he had 6 large carrier bags which make it too large to get on board without the help of two crew members. It took a further 4 crew to get his wife on board. At the safety exercise it became more apparent that the people who have mobility issues would not be able to participate in climbing up two flights of stairs to the lifeboats. The exercise lasted over an hour. I would estimate that 30/40% of passengers had mobility issues or were frail & elderly. I do not know how the company work out how many disabled passengers they can manage safely or how they risk assess passengers based on the Medical Declaration we were asked to complete a week before we travelled. Looking at the deck plans there are only 4 disabled accessible cabins. Many passengers had falls when the sea was rough and had black eyes, bandages & plasters. One elderly lady had 6 stitches in elbow and other injuries when her husband fell on her. Like others have mentioned many people including me went down with bad chest infection - hard cough, high temperature and bad chest. Again a large number of passengers were affected. My husband & I would not Travel with this company again and would check on the Safety and Risk Assessment s that are carried out before we cruise again. The Bistro , as others have said was overcrowded with too many people filling too small a space - avoid at all costs Read Less

The ship was not stable enough and too old for the job. The service on board was excellent......the Captain ( Mr Invisible ) rubbish. I cannot fault the food or service of crew, but we think that the Captain must have known about the adverse weather conditions before we left Tilbury , which had we had the choice we would not have continued with the cruise. The room was spotless with plenty of storage space. The food was amazing with plenty of choice at every single meal. You can either go to the restaurant and be served or you can go for a buffet. Either are just as good. You can always get a hot drink day or night. The staff are all so friendly and nothing is to much for them. They are all so polite and they never seem to stop. There is plenty to do on board in the evening. There are the bars, the disco and the entertainment. There is a well stocked library, a gym, hairdressers and health centre, not forgetting the shopping. There are two pools and ample chairs and sun loungers to relax in during the day. Even with all the people onboard, it never felt cramped. I thoroughly enjoyed my first cruise and I would go on the Columbus again. Read Less

We have just returned from a weeks cruise on the Columbus. Ship is beautiful and all areas clean. Decor is lovely. Cabins fantastic. Food in waterfront restaurant absolutely superb every evening. Don't waste your money in the Grill restaurant! Food better in the Waterfront restaurant and it doesn't cost you £25 extra to eat in there!!! Very disappointing meal in there. 4/10 at most and that's being generous! We ate there as a treat to ourselves and were not impressed with anything! Service not as you'd expect. Slow and food was sent back by 2 in our party. Starters unimpressive and only the soup was decent. Steaks were average. Veg mostly sliced cooked peppers! Deserts not worth waiting for! I wish I'd listened to other reviews on here before we decided to try it for ourselves. Most staff on ship were friendly but some were unfriendly and rude to passengers and other staff members which was unpleasant to witness. Definitely need training in customer service and service with a smile. Some made you feel you were a nuisance! Just for asking for information or help. Blonde lady in tour office, name unknown but the manager I would imagine by the way she talked down to a lovely young lady working there. She was unhelpful and absolutely rude. The poor girl was embarrassed and was doing a fine job! Shows were average. Nothing spectacular but good and entertaining, very disappointing in having no star acts in the week we were there. The worst thing for us were we cruised when children were allowed on board a usually adult only ship. Our party are all young grandparents and love children but there's a time and place! Most entertainment was family friendly, meaning children's entertainment! So not a lot for us adults without children to entertain. Main annoyance was children being allowed in all bars and areas until all hours. Only area children were not allowed was the nightclub after 11pm and even that wasn't adhered to by some parents. Young Children were sat on bar stools in bars when adults were struggling to find a seat! Patents were responsible for their children's behaviour of course, but there should be rules regarding adult areas. Would not advise cruising when family friendly if your looking for adult entertainment and relaxing evenings!! I would definitely cruise with them again if adult only and hope they may have sorted out the bad staff from the excellent as many were. Our cabin was spotless. Good size. Beds very comfortable with fresh clean cotton bedding. Shower great size and powerful! Lovely white fluffy towels. We stayed on deck 6 ocean view. Friends were on deck 10 ocean view. Cabins pretty much exactly the same apart from they had tea making facilities. Drinks prices are the best we've ever had! Very reasonable. My review is honest and the critical points are to help future cruisers what to be aware of. Read Less

Round Uk for Scottish ports especially Ullapool, my grandmother s origin was our reason for the trip, our first CMV out 16 cruises. Lack of information bugged me starting with parking,we unloaded cases at the terminal and were advised to 'follow the bus ' to park. It was in a yard a mile away in the port area used by cementex road tankers. Bus back. A postcode for it in advance would be helpful. Boarding was ok . Double bed cabin deck 9 was well presented ,steward Nantha great throughout. We were on a waiting list for Strathspey railway tour found the tickets in the cabin. I had been trying to make alternate arrangements luckily not spent money, E mail would have been useful. 1st stop Invergorden all ok. Local guide on the tour excellent.full instructions given on arrival at Aviemore station, ships tour woman then came from back of coach to repeat everything in broken English, spoiling our time there and preventing loo visits ! She also tried to hurry us off the train for no good reason, by this time departure time had moved from 1600 to 2200hrs as the Captain cancelled Ullapool Tobermory and gave extra sea day and Belfast instead because of adverse weather for tenders. In Belfast we watched crew struggle to get a tender back aboard running from below it at one stage. Still at St Peter Port they operated successfully. Although disembarkation in Scilly Isles was a 2 hr wait, local tenders were there ok ,the ship used only one side it may have been a card reader problem. No apologies from our unseen Captain. Also the many very elderly with mobility problems slowed things down considerably, lm late sixties and was one of the youngest! We had trouble with the tv coming on in the night which was sorted also the cabin aircon didn't work, the repair left it on all the time as no spare circuit boards were available, pity the next occupants in Iceland ! Luckily our toilet ,bathroom were fine unlike many especially on deck 6 and public ones. Had to feel sorry for the crew only on board a month and having to deal with it. They were given a party up in the dome one night. Information: I asked at the desk when the 2nd formal night was,no luck. Disembarking can be from various decks. Honfleur was deck 7 first time. We hunted up and down for it, I suggested signs by the lifts as other lines do. Was told listen to announcement . Broken English no doubt there are only 21 Brits in the crew . Finally the comment card drop box it's round the blind corner from enquiry desk when I suggested a sign I was told to ask at Enquiries, that's all 1400 of us ?? Dining was okay apart from bacon being all fat at breakfast, cook said he had sent an Email, I suggested he inspected what came on or change suppliers. The bar areas are good as was the service. We took the £17.50 a day each which was a mistake as you have to pay extra for palatable beer or wine. Tried to cancel it but was just out of the 24 rule! So drank two cocktails a night still didn't get value.Enterttainment was ok but the Captain should do his daily rant between shows as it was he cut off a solo singer and unbeknown to him received a slow hand clap. The ship has just had a 3 week refit and needs more. P&O Australia handed it over in poor condition and CMV survey missed a lot. Funnel smoke was bad and a periodic whining noise from down below especially when docking suggests other problems. It has a further 2 week refit in December before its world cruise. I was told they may cut the ceiling out to the Waterside Restaurant into a storeroom to make a 2 tier restaurant. If that made one sitting the theatre won't cope. Generally the ship is spacious built in 1989 before mega ships, it sailed well in the storm. I might try a Europe 2 night in the future but this was definitely could do a lot better. Read Less

My husband and I chose this cruise not just for its itinerary and reasonable cost but for the convenience of the return trip from Liverpool; disembarkation went smoothly but we were surprised our hand luggage was not scanned or inspected in any way, we could have been carrying anything - very disturbing given the times we live in. The Magellan is very dated, desperately in need of a refit. Public areas are drab and uninteresting but there are plenty of places to sit. We had an outside cabin which again was set in a time warp but it was quite spacious, ample storage and the bathroom quite roomy. There didn't have to be much of a swell for it to creak and groan which sometimes kept us awake. The walls seemed to be very thin as we often heard nextdoor's TV and the toilet flushing, also it got very hot and stuffy due to the air conditioning knob not being adjustable. Dining had its ups and downs - mostly downs. Raffles Bistro is the self service option which was a nightmare at breakfast, obviously not big enough with insufficient seating, most mornings we were forced to sit outside which was quite chilly and uncomfortable. We did try the other two restaurants for breakfast and lunch but the Bistro had more choice, better fare and we didn't have to put up with some of the ill disciplined waiting staff's shoddy service and lack of decorum. There was far too much fooling around, loud chatter, singing and banging of crockery. From behind the waiters' stations we heard one say to his colleague 'move your ass' when he came in with a tray of meals and on another occasion a waiter mimmicked a northern English accent. Our designated restaurant for the evening was the Waldorf, I might add that our two waiters were very pleasant and attentive, one of whom even gave us a napkin folding after our meal. But mostly we ate in the Bistro as there weren't many people - guaranteed table for two, it had a cloth on it and we had a view - happy days! In and around the bars a few of the barmen and male waiting staff had the same clowning around attitude but most were very professional and good at their job. We found all the female waiting staff extremely efficient, attentive and you certainly didn't have to wait long to be served. The entertainment was dire, especially the singing which was amateurish, out of tune and performed with fake American accents. Far better was heard from passengers on the karoke night, one girl sang 'Fields of Gold' - she was superb; knocked spots off the so called professionals. As for the comedian, well, he was an embarrassment and totally inappropriate, not only were his 'jokes' lame and inane but he sang some ditties ridiculing world leaders, one targeting Mugabe, the lyrics of Old MacDonald changed to that he no longer had a farm - this odious creep thought that it was funny that people had lost their way of life and their livestock in such horrible cruel acts of violence. I can't comment on the shore excursions as we made our own way around. Activities such as paper plane folding and creating flowers from crepe paper and plastic bottles didn't exactly appeal so just as well we took the £17 p/p p/d drinks package which was very good value and worth doing, so no complaints there. Overall, even though we had our gripes, we saw the places we set out to, seeing beautiful scenery. I know it's a cliche saying 'you get what you pay for' but this cruise surely endorsed that. 9 nights was enough. And no, I wouldn't go with CMV again. Read Less

We chose this cruise as the port is not too far away from where we live, my husband has been on the sister ship Discovery, no longer in operation. Food was excellent Staff were always on top form. Excellent cruise, we enjoyed the ten days. Shore excursions were very good. We will probably go on another cruise with Marco Polo. Disembarkation was done so quickly we were amazed how quickly we got off the cruise liner. We met such lovely people. We enjoyed the entertainment. but not always able to go to the evening entertainment as we had our meal later. I would recommend to family and friends to go on a cruise with Marco Polo or there other cruise liners. We were truly amazed how many people have done several cruises and quite a few single people on the cruise who really enjoy cruising. Thanks Mary & Martin Hall Read Less

Embarkation was to say the least chaotic, headless chickens come into mind. However we got on board and started our holiday. Have cruised before and this was the worst, not bad however and had we not cruised before our expectations may not have been so high. Layout of ship is weird, if you dine in the Waldorf restaurant, we had no choice, you have to go past restaurant level, onto floor 9, and then back down to floor 8, not good for the less agile diners, or wheelchair users. We didn,t use any of the organsied excursions, but chose to do our own thing whilst on shore. This saved us as a couple well over £150.00, all similar excursions are available independantly onshore. You have been warned. When going ashore in Andalsnes, the exit was on level 5, the gangway was VERY steep, therefore less mobile people struggled to get off, causing huge congestion. In my mind it was Dangerous! People wanted to get off to catch their excusion buses or trains and were getting frustrated. It took the crew a long while to get passengers off, until they decided to open a door on level 3. This should have been done in the 1st. instance. The staff seemed to be in a complete panic as to what to do. All of the staff do their best, but sometimes their poor English language makes it difficult to get understood. All in all not a bad cruise, they do their best to keep your holiday pleasant, entertainment quite amatuerish, but I suppose you do get what you pay for. This is not P&O or Cunard. Doubful if I will use this company again Read Less

A good value cruise, but Tilbury was rather disorganised for embarkation especially as previously we had experienced Newcastle which was excellent. The ship is small enough to navigate where one needs to get to easily, without getting lost. The dining is excellent with lots of choice,& the staff are very obliging. Second sitting see the show before dinner, & first sitting see it after dinner. The shows reminded me of school productions, with gaps between scenes, & lots of whooping, & loud whistles. All the costumes were good, & the musicians were excellent. Some interesting history talks regarding the Russian Tsars, which gave us background for our trips to Peterhof Palace & Catherine Palace. The palaces are out of this world with lots of gold, & wonderful fountains, & I would highly recommend visiting them. They were the highlight of our cruise. A visa is required for Russia if you want to go it alone, & are expensive. If you pre- book online with a Russian tour company you do not need a visa, or indeed with the ship. Beware, we have been charged twice for our trips, & are in the process of trying to sort it out, so keep all your paperwork when you get home! We visited Copenhagen, Warnemunde (a pretty seaside place so advise not to spend 6 hours on a couch to Berlin.) Helsinki, & Tallinn. The days at sea mean the Raffles self service restaurant is inadequate to seat everyone, so rather chaotic, but the food was very good, & plentiful. We booked direct with Cruise & Maritime & expected to get the best price booking direct, however on the day we were booking Planet cruise were offering it for £100 less & CMV would not price match, so shop around! Use this cruise line at you peril. The only good point was the cabin porter and the fairly good food. The rest was a total shambles myself and other passengers complaining that rooms allocated on check were not the ones on documents when booked and more people complaining and telling others about their experience on arrival than I have ever encountered anywhere. Most of the staff on the customer service desk were not trained, surly and arrogant. Could not sleep due to rattling engine noise. I could write a small essay of every complaint on this weekend away but quite frankly they would not take any notice and nothing would change. It would not surprise me if this company went out of business very soon. They need to get one of the experienced cruise lines to show them how it is done before it's too late. Transpired that the ship had that day just arrived from a world cruise!!!! and the last passengers had only disembarked at 3pm, hence the chaos at the dock. The one thing they should be mindful of is that word travels even faster on a small cruise ship and in a blink of an eye everyone on board gets to hear about any complaints! More importantly if this was there idea of customer care what in heavens name would it be like in a real disaster, doesn't bare thinking about. Read Less

We booked this cruise on a 2 for 1 deal, and the attractive cruise itinerary ticked several boxes on our bucket list..(Tresco, Sark, Honfleur and Monets garden at Giverny.) We are aged 56 and 65.Extremely easy to embark, we were made very welcome and the staff were efficient from start to finish. Our first cruise and having read all the cruise information we were aware that having booked the cheapest cabin, it would be compact and without tea making facilities, it was however spotless and sufficient with fabulous hot water in the shower. Food was plentiful and mostly very good, we don't like formal dining so mostly ate in the self service buffet restaurant. The shore excursions were well organised, we had pre booked as soon as we received the booking forms so were not disappointed unlike some of the passengers who were because of limited places. Some of the trips to shore require passengers to walk down a steep gangplank and then board a bobbing tender, this requires the passengers to be responsible for themselves although some staff supervision and support is available. The ship was spotless, there was a variety of on board entertainment and activities, not all of which appealed to us but we found plenty to do, just sitting with a drink in the bar listening to the piano player was heaven. Overall I think the ship does a very good job of catering for everyone, we couldn't fault it and the fact that the sun shone the whole week just enhanced the whole experience. Read Less
