We boarded and informed the ship had only one engine. This was replaced 12 days into our cruise. This meant we were unloaded and loaded at small jetties spent hours on coaches and less time at our destinations. A lock broke near Frankfurt which put us back another 12 hours. The ship is not fit for purpose. The toilet system broke down 3 times. Internet very bad reception. T V was in German had not been switched to a English satellite. The food was O K but deserts terrible. Coffee in the restaurant to strong and cold complained to the Hotel Manager but no improvement. Staff in restaurant needed training not serving ladies first, reaching across to deliver or pick up plates. The temperature control in our cabins did not work. We some times had to endure unpleasant smells when docked closed to other ships. The ship needed net curtains to most cabins for privacy when in port or docked next to another ship. Read Less

We took Cruce Mundo cruise from our travel agent. We returned on August 4th,2018. The ship MS Bellejour gave us a lot of problems. At the first day of the trip air conditioner didn't work with 95F (35C). Next day cabin was not clean for the entire day, For the last 3 days Ship phone didn't work. Hair drier was missing in the cabin and was delivered at midnight. On the trip to Strasbourg by bus 2 buses had trouble with air conditioners and we had to wait for another bus at 95F outside. Food for dinner was limited and Ship didn't have any entertainment. We strongly recommend to everyone avoid the cruise with MS Bellejour .Old ship and service bellow expectation by far.We had nice offshore excursions with the knowledgeable guides.but everything else was not good at all. Also we expected to see very clean cities. but were very surprised to see garbage all over on the streets Read Less

My first River cruise. Traveled with a group of 44 people. Ship (Bellejour/Cruce Mundo) was adequate, most of the crew was very friendly and helpful, food was okay, beverage package did not include a large selection of beer and wine. Do not book cabin 101, expected some water noise but it was very bad with a loud banging noise at the side of the ship. Thankfully we were able to move to cabin 118 which was 100% better. Cabin attendant was very good. Entertainment was a keyboard player/singer (same every night). Breakfast buffet had a good selection but the area was very small and cramped. Lunch and dinner both included a salad, soup, entree and dessert. Most of the food was good but not exceptional. Cruised from Amsterdam to Strasbourg. Visited beautiful cities and the excursions from the ship were very good. I would definitely like to do another River cruise someday, but would try a different cruise line. Read Less

although it primarily seems to handle group tours, it was one of our best cruises we have been on. We were the only English only speaking couple on board, but all crew were multilingual, one of the best we have encountered in cruising; all the other guests were from Europe (with exception of the Russian-American group who conversed in Russian the whole time) but that posed no problems - met some great people. excursions were great and well conducted. Food - ah 4-6 course lunch and dinners, all presented comparable to 5 star restaurants. Cabins were good size, even the shower was adequate. Cant say enough good things about this ship and crew and overall experience. The ship does not dock with the major lines in all ports and does seem to get some out-of-the-way places as in Basel. The Rhine was fantastic.... Read Less

We have just returned from a Marco Polo 6-night cruise, having sailed on her two times previously. All was as expected and food was as good as ever - however, and it's a BIG however, We were encouraged to book by CMV sales a Junior Suite (811) as I was taking along a small collapsible mobility scooter which they said could be adequately stored in the "Walk-in Wardrobe" and also the cabin was "Much" larger than the DL (Deluxe Ocean View) cabin we were thinking of booking. Not only is there NO walk-in wardrobe in cabin 811, the cabin itself is much smaller than the DL grade of cabins. As advised, we complained to the Guest Relations Manager on day 1 of the cruise and on day 2, three officers (GRM, Hotel Director + another) visited our cabin and confirmed that the wardrobe is a standard one and the size of the cabin is not as described. They could also see that we had to store one of our suitcases behind the dressing table in front of the window, thus obscuring further the already obstructed view. I received two letters from the GRM whilst on-board and an assurance that we would be upgraded on our next cruise with them in September. Currently I am awaiting a return call from CMV about this, as all grades above the cabin we have booked have been sold - we already have free gratuities and a drinks package, so I wonder what they can offer us??? When I asked CMV what their opinion was regarding advertising (on their website) this cabin with a walk-in wardrobe and charging a premium to be in an inferior one compared to a DL grade, they had no reply. I shall be seeking legal advice on this matter if we do not get suitable compensation - also I will contact the powers that be that oversee all infringements regarding The Sale of Goods and Services Act. The cruise itself was average, mainly because of the inclement weather and the fact that Dover was substituted for Antwerp, which we have never visited before. I understand that the ship will be having a refit/upgrade in December and the Stabilizers are due for repair, a fact which was highlighted as she did not sail too well through the heavy seas as before. One hopes that cabin 811 is re-categorized to a lower grade as it is clearly not up to Junior Suite status. Read Less

This was sold to us as an introduction to cruising and it was just that.Booked to celebrate my 60th Birthday i had been planning for years. I cannot fault the Ship or its crew and because of them i am hoping to go on similar holidays again. I have learnt a lot. We started of with everything going smoothly to plan We sailed from Cardiff on the day of a big football match but our coach got us there with ease. First day and the Scilly Isles started off a bit wet with a little delay on our visit to Tresco, This meant abandoning our planned visit to St Mary's as it would have been a rush. Onwards to France with a lovely cruise down the Seine in brilliant sunshine and into Rouen - a shame everything was closed as it was a public holiday! (Not like England) Still we had a pleasant evening stroll. The following day a trip to Giverny and Monet's garden was all that it promised to be, we left just as the heavens opened. That is where the holiday ended. That evening due to a forecast storm our trip to Antwerp was cancelled. I understand the safety implications but this was very disappointing especially as our substitute was Dover! I will not list all the bad points other than to say i am still upset about it. It was also the only port where we had to pay for the shuttle into the town - good old England! We nearly left the ship here to go home at this point, but as we were looking forward to the day at sea on our way back to Hull we cotinued and we did enjoy some pampering! To sum up my first cruise barely left England, I came back with all my Euros that i planned to buy gifts with in Antwerp - the pound shop in Dover couldn't quite do it! Would i do it again - strangely yes but with no expectations! As some has already suggested in another review a longer stay in France or somewhere, anywhere but not Dover would have been better! She is an old boat but appears to be well maintained by the crew cabins shabby but sheak house keeping, bar staff and the waiting team servicing the evening in the Waldorf restaurant top notch however the Evining meal was on most night passibie for restraunt style food (only one tuc biscuit with Mouse portion of cheese)but the same can not be said for the breakfast or lunch menus Breakfast used cheap smoked sausage inedible greasy bacon watery beans tomatoes and very unappetising scrambled eggs cheap cardboard breakfast cereals not great however the lunch buffet in Marcos took the biscuit. salad meats of spam luncheon meats salami not a real portion of reconisibile meat chicken ham pork etc that my years of cruising could recognise if you love cream of beetroot or parsnip soup you've cracked it.all the deserts are servived in small portions with all the imitation whipped cream you can manage. There is a grill on the deck at the bistro rear most days one day it may be a sausage next day a chicken leg the next a portion of ropey salmon and finally a hamburger Afternoon tea is a little better but inedible sandwiches (old BR style curled ends) what part of salami and cream cheese is a ham&cheese sandwich. supper don't go there 0 out of 10 Greasy deep fried chicken wings of a sort. Entertainment poor shows not great young inexperienced singers very unfunny comedian.DJ was great. Bench style seating in the theatre not very comfortable as are the plastic garden style chairs on rear decks first and last time with this company it's true you get what you pay for, I will pay more in future with one of the other cruise lines no such thing as a free lunch (or cruise) Read Less

Down to Tilbury for an overnight on board "Magellan"going...... nowhere! Ship looks nice. Good shape and looks in good condition. check In; OK!. a problem with the cabins , 3 allocated of 2 x couples! but we sorted that out ourselves We had very little time to see around the vessel as we were booked in for early sitting dinner We then showered, changed and we had a quick look around Free drinks were offered, very nice and bars looked really good then straight into dinner.. Next problem, the table allocated to us, a party of four, was occupied by two people who despite being asked by the waiter to move, point blank refused ( how polite!) So we were then ushered a round the Waldorf dining room, wandering around looking for a table for four ( At this point there was a long queue waiting to get in and despite his best efforts the waiter struggled but eventually found us a table. ) The food in the restaurant overall, was good. Menu nice . Meat OK, Cesear salad excellent. Baked alaska. !!! no comment! wine included very nice thanks. 7/10 The show was fair-good. Dancers, lighting, theatre; all good. in fact very good. Singers a bit on the ‘weak’ side. needed stronger voices for the songs chosen but over 8/10 Cabin was warm overnight . With no obvious A/C adjustment !! but Bedding and towels were new and ok cabin and bathroom clean and larger than normal . 9/10 Overall ships appearance was good 9/10 Biggest problem appeared to be language . most staff could not understand English very well. They were polite and very pleasant but English comprehension was poor.. Apart from the cabin mix up . overall fair/good 8/10.   Read Less

We'd always assumed cruising was not for us. We feared cheesy entertainment, rigorous dress codes, tiny cabins, boring table mates who we could not escape.... Our 3 night mini cruise to Ghent and Amsterdam was a pleasant surprise. The embarkation and dis embarkation processes were quick and painless, our mid price range cabin clean, quite roomy and comfortable, the public areas of the ship pleasant, and best of all the people we shared a table with were great fun. The shower was tricky to use, I soaked the floor at the first attempt, but by the time we returned to bed that night, it had all been cleaned. Yes, the entertainment was like something out of a Russian Holiday camp (if you can imagine such a thing) but the novelty of that entertained me, in itself. Three nights was probably enough of it, I can see how longer cruises might drag on that front. Late nights in the Captain's Bar were the best, with music to dance to and excellent bar staff serving reasonably priced cocktails. We had one rough-ish evening's weather, and I can easily see how bad weather would make for a horrible cruise, but surely that's the fault of the weather and if you do go away in December, in the worst winter for 100 years.... We got away lightly. We loved our visit to Amsterdam, you can easily walk into the city from the dock. At Ghent we went on a coach tour to Brussels, which in retrospect was a waste of time since we could have just gone to Ghent on the shuttle bus and had much more time there. We do not have any other cruises to compare this to, but we felt the ship was homely and comfortable and despite what is being said currently, well maintained. The crew worked very hard, health and safety was very well attended to. Only disappointment was that the food did not live up to what it was trying to be. It was edible, but rather ordinary and in some cases, strange. On our table we just giggled about the strangeness. Dress code is not scary, smart casual serves, you don't need to worry about having the latest or most expensive clothes. All in all we enjoyed it and will cruise again! Read Less
