My husband and I had been looking forward to trying Princess for the 1st time. We had cruised on several other cruise lines and had heard that Princess was a class above Carnival or Norwegian. Unfortunately, we found that this particular ship was not the best food by any means. The buffet had the same selections every day, nothing was hot and there was always a long line. Sometimes had a hard time finding anything we liked. Seating was very limited and there were no other choices other than pizza, hamburger, hot dogs, cold sandwiches and maybe 1 carved meat. Tried the carved meat for lunch one day and you couldn't even cut it. The dinner wasn't any better, food was always cold and no good choices. Had prime rib one night and was cold to the touch, along with the sides. We had anytime dining and usually don't have any trouble getting a seat for 2 but, on this ship if you don't take a large table with a group you will find yourself waiting for 30-45 minutes to get a table. Entertainment was a big disappointment. The only music in the evenings was classical, ballroom dancing or instrumentals. The theatre was extremely small and if you didn't get there early there were no seats. You can't even get around people that are sitting down since they are so close together. Everywhere you went in the evening it was very hard to find seats, there is just not much entertainment and so everyone is going to the same place. We went to 5 theatre shows and only liked 1 of them very well. Not our normal productions that we are used to. They only had a comedy show one evening & he was very good but we are used to at least a couple of them. Didn't have karaoke very often either. The pools were nice, but chairs are limited. We did like our room and our room steward who was Antonio, he was the best. Our bed was very hard and we requested a mattress topper and a cover sheet because they do not give you a top sheet. This was a first for us, I don't like covering up with a comforter that is probably not washed frequently. Very quiet in the hallways, liked the type of people cruising on the ship. Ordered room service one evening and it was not good, sandwich had 1 shaved slice of roast beef and no taste. Tried the Crown Grill one evening and out of a rating of 10 I would give it a 5, but we were tired of the dining room. The steaks were just ok, nothing exceptional for $29 per person, potatoes were very small and not done well. Rolls were hard just like they were in the dining room. Must be leftovers that they use over and over. We were looking forward to trying the Salty Dog since the hamburger looked fabulous in a picture and they said it was the best on the seas. We saw someone eating one and it looked no bigger than a slider. There was never anyone there either. Service throughout the ship was very poor other than our room steward. Don't expect to have bar wait staff coming around much to bring drinks. Casino was not as lively as we have seen on others and didn't see anyone winning including us. The ship is very dated although it is going in for dry dock for 2 weeks. Don't know how much they will get done in that length of time. Embarkation and disembarkation was very smooth and quick. There are so many ships to choose from we don't believe I will come back to Princess unless they make changes. Read Less

First off, let me mention that this cruise was wholly chartered by Air Miles Canada and we didn’t pay a dime for it. On board were approximately 1000 collectors and their guests, as well as partner personnel and Air Miles employees who had won the cruise. Needless to say, our experience was likely different as we did not have an international crowd, nor did we actually pay for the Crown Princess’ services in any way, shape or form. THE GOOD - Food: We thought that the menu was diverse enough and well executed (they always got our cooks just right). They had theme nights going at the buffet, what with Italian, Mexican or “Oriental” food being served. The dining rooms followed those themes but often with a more refined twist. We honestly don’t understand why anyone would opt for the speciality restaurants, as steak, seafood and pasta was available on every dining room’s menu and in the buffet every single night. Contrary to what others have been posting, we never felt like butter in the dining room was being rationed in any way, there being three or four pats on the table even when we sat just by ourselves. - Service/overall staff: While we felt like some of the crew really didn’t want to be there (some of them were at the end of their contract, which is understandable), we were overall very satisfied with the staff and the services received throughout our cruise, and even those that seemed less enthused were kind enough to offer a “good morning.” Bar staff was fantastic even at happy hour, and dirty plates were promptly removed from your table as soon as you were done, even at busier hours. There were rarely any glasses or plates lying around unattended; if so, it wasn’t for very long until a bus-boy scooped everything up and out of sight. - Entertainment: Even on port days, there was always something to do on the ship. Air Miles and the cruise staff had prepared a boatload (no pun intended) of activities to keep us occupied and on our feet on sea days. The shows were all great, from the Broadway-style production “Encore,” to the hilarious stand-up comedian Phil Tag, all the way down to bar flair in the Piazza. Trivia was on every day, twice a day, and the questions were totally challenging; one YouTuber recently complained that the production was shoddy (awkwardly-made PowerPoints and paper answer sheets), but we didn’t feel like this affected our experience negatively in any way, shape, or form. THE BAD - Ship: While it didn’t negatively impact our cruise in any way, mainly because we’ve witnessed much, much worse in terms of travel arrangements, we felt like the Crown Princess was getting tired. There wasn’t much attention to detail going on aesthetically-speaking, in the sense that there were a lot of scratches, scuff marks and stained shower grout in the staterooms, and some water spots on the ceilings of some of the public areas. We felt like everything was pretty sound, but it lacked the shine and polish that a cruise line that markets itself as “premium” should be putting into its ship. Other than that, we loved the “Love Boat” feel that was going on in the decorations; that being said, we aren’t big fans of the modern aspect some cruise lines (ex. Celebrity) have been turning towards, and much prefer the more traditional feel. - Room service: We honestly only used this once on our stay, and it was to order the pre-paid bottle of spirits that we had ordered. It took a good hour to get someone on the line, and then another 30 minutes before someone came by our room to drop the bottles off. I’m not sure why they just don’t deliver the bottles to your room prior to the cruise, like they do the water bottles. - Prices: Almost 7$ USD for a bottle of Budweiser is just an absolute ripoff. The drinks packages are also very expensive, at almost 70$ USD a night, which means that you have to drink the equivalent of a 12-pack of ship-priced beer every night to make the whole thing worth it. - Disembarkation: Not much to say on this other than, there’s absolutely nothing like the feeling or being herded off a ship like cattle once the cruise is over. While everything went smoothly, they could have made an effort to make you feel a little less like they wanted you gone so that they can get the next paying customers onboard. PORTS - Cozumel: We didn’t do any excursions in Cozumel seeing as my wife is pregnant and we wanted to minimize the risk of zika, so we opted for a taxi to downtown to stock up on tequila and vanilla at Los Cinco Soles. The whole downtown strip is a huge garage sale, with shop employees just peddling out on the street and almost pushing you into their store. We weren’t turned off by the whole thing but we felt that it was pretty intense. Otherwise, 2$ beers aren’t anything to be sad about. - Princess Cays: Such a beautiful, relaxing place. We loved it here; nothing else to add! OVERALL All in all, we loved our experience and look forward to sailing with Princess again. Read Less

We have been on 22 cruises on various lines, 9 on Princess; Princess being our obvious favorite and it always comes down to the entertainment. Princess is best for an active older crowd but not ready for Holland. The evenings are always packed with things to do to the point you get frustrated cause you can't fit it all in. But, it sure beats going back to the room after the show and watching tv. We can do that at home for free. The entertainment on this ship was the best even for Princess. They had a magician Michael Misko who was actually more of a comedian. And then there was the comedian Joe Yannetty. It was a toss up who was funnier but if you like to laugh - DO NOT miss their shows. The magician was also in the Liars Club - not to be missed either. Don't waste any time when a show is in the Explorer's Lounge as the seats fill up quickly. They also had the usual game shows, trivia & bingo. The first seating in the Princess Theatre fills up but we discovered there were always seat at the later show. The production shows were also excellent. After the "Blame it on the Boogie" show, the entertainers go up to the deck party and continue. I know alot of people skip the deck party - don't. They have changed it and they bring in the "Love Boat" theme to the party - very touching and fun. We were both even lucky in the casino. We don't hang out at the bars. We went on this ship when it was new and while it needs some refurbishments, it didn't affect us at all. It was clean and all the personnel were pleasant and friendly. Service was very good. The size of this ship is perfect. While my husband likes the pool, I prefer the games. The only thing I'll say about the pool is I noticed both pools only have ladders to get in and out. The only complaint would be the mattress. It obviously needed replacing and an eggcrate didn't help much. Our steward Russell tried. Our room was always clean and he was quick at filling requests. He introduced himself as soon as we came in. The embarkation and disembarkation were incredibly quick and easy. We're platinum and that might have helped with embarkation. Our room was ready. We didn't do any excursions as we had been to these ports before. Costa Maya has a very long pier and everyone walked. It could be a problem for some. Costa Maya and Cozumel both had too many ships and passengers in port. I won't say much about the food except it was good and service was excellent tho steak was tough. We ate at Sabatini's one night - save your money - the dining room was better. Ice cream is ice milk but they sell gelato. Read Less
