Let me start by saying, my husband and I are not frequent ocean cruisers. We did a lot of ocean cruising when we were younger. In the last few years, we travelled with Norwegian and Celebrity and were very pleased with those voyages. We took a 31 day cruise of South America, December 4, 2016 to January 4, 2017. We booked a mini suite, mid ship D 701. Unfortunately, the Crown Princess has serious technical problems and the decor is worn and dated. I will outline the Pros and Cons to make it easier for you to understand why our cruise was not a stellar experience for first time cruisers with Princess. Pros: -The most outstanding thing about this ship is their staff. In a word: Outstanding! -Organization of routines and tours were well done with very attentive care to individuals with mobility issues. -Educational seminars and port talks were informative, entertaining and helpful. -Boutique Outlet shopping was a lot of fun. -Traditional dining room meals were varied, hot and delicious, a special thank you to the staff: Alex, Noni and Anthony-they are the best!. -International Cafe in the Piazza was excellent with dedicated over the top friendly staff: Thank you to the following people for making our vacation: Cecelia, Anna, Victoria, Iris, Jason, Faye and Reynaldo. -Access to our billing account via kiosk was an excellent idea. We did avoid any problems at the end of the voyage by tackling the problems beforehand. -Cabin steward, Dax, was so helpful when our suite flooded and made sure all our needs with toiletries were fulfilled, not to forget to mention a friendly, outgoing personality. -Itinerary was appreciated, the main reason we chose Princess, and we experienced the essence of many countries we had never seen before. Cons: -Mini suite was not what I expected. A few days in, the tap water was dark brown all night and into the morning. Unfortunately, I drank the water throughout the night (glass on night table was brown the next morning) as I get up often to do this and my husband showered the morning after and came out dirtier than before he started. We went down to the front desk to report the problem but their manner was very unsympathetic to our problem. They said they clear the pipes all the time and this will happen. Shouldn't this procedure be announced or caution signs placed on drinking their water. New Year's Eve our suite was flooded from the bathroom. My husband called to report the "emergency." No one came for the longest time and when they did they were surprised it was an "emergency." Then a plumber had to be found to turn the water off. By this time, half the suite was full of water and the laundry bag on the floor in the closet was soaked, suitcases under the bed drenched. Happy New Year! A bottle of champagne for our nightmare would have been nice touch. We just got a phone call asking if everything was all right. Technically, "yes", but "no," if you consider a noisy machine blowing it dry all day and for the next day. Also, the smell was putrid but there were only a few days left in our voyage and we were too sick to argue about changing rooms anyways. -Needless to say I got sick on the voyage and so did my husband with the mystery flu/ cough. This necessitated visits to the doctor and medications. We bought Princess travel insurance but I have a feeling this will not go well either when we try to claim those expenses. I will write another review to share these results good or bad. -Entertainment was not up to par especially in the Piazza where we spent most of our evenings at the International Cafe. Every night, for 31 days we listened to tango music which three couples danced to every night.This did not leave much room on the floor for others to partake with a slow dance. Also, more seating is needed in this area. -Buffet was not hot or tasty; unrecognizable spices in the food. When we got sick, we opted for meals at the buffet so we could choose soup or salad and leave without the long social aspect of Traditional dining. As usual, the staff was outstanding but the meals were not appetizing. The buffet selection area is too confining and needs to be organized better. The intense vibration during the meal was annoying. -The worse thing, that I could not get used to, was the constant, intense vibration all over the ship, especially my bed at night. It rattled my teeth, it was so strong. Also it did not add to our dining experience in the Buffet Restaurant. This mystery vibration that I have "never" experienced on any ship I have ever sailed on made me worrisome for the whole voyage. -The Passenger Service's desk was not a friendly place to visit. They reluctantly solved our problems. We went there three times: bill dispute the first few days, dirty water in the suite, flooding of our suite and charging for laundry from the flooding in our suite. Don't bother with their boss, she was just as unsympathetic. -Daily activities were juvenile. More educational seminars about future ports would have been appreciated more. TV movies in the room were repetitious and dated. News networks should incorporate more international, unbiased outlets. -Tours arranged by Princess were very expensive and not worth it. The buses for our first 3 destinations were so cramped, we cancelled all our tours we had pre-booked on line beforehand. At future ports, we got off the ship with another couple we hooked up with, negotiated with local taxi drivers and had a very rewarding experience on each tour we took. -Disembarkation was a nightmare! To end, I realize a cruise this long will have issues but we will not take one this long again and we will have to think long and hard about the Princess Cruise Line ships. My first complain complain is the bed furniture need to be replaced very badly, the mattress has cave in that make us feel like sleeping in the sink hole (it also happen to friends of us on other room), otherwise the room is clean and cozy except the shower room is so tiny, it doesn't have room to turn around for a skinny person like me (I am only 140 pounds and 5 feet 7), I wonder how can I 200 pounder can take their shower. Second is the embarkation is a mess and chaos, our priority boarding is long and tiresome, other than that everything is excellent: the boarding process is somehow smooth, the food are excellent and the dinning service is excellent but the buffet service is not good (stuff are talking to each other and ignore our present, so we have to get our own drink after waiting for 30 minutes), all on board program and activities are excellent, never have a bore moment.. Took a once-in-a-lifetime 14-night cruise around South America on the Crown Princess — and it was fabulous! Here’s a review of the ship: The ship’s decor is beautiful. The design has a heavy Italian influence with lots of gold.Crown Princess review I’d guess that the average age of guests on this particular cruise was 70-75 and I bet I was about the only person who had to go back to work when the cruise was over! Passengers on this trip were serious cruisers, too — most have taken 10+ cruises to everywhere under the sun and are very well traveled! Only met one first-time cruiser during the whole trip. There’s a wide variety of onboard entertainment – one of the things I love best about Princess cruise lines – including professional Tango dancers (wow!), a ventriloquist, a comedian, singers — including a semi-finalist from American Idol, a magician, singing and dancing production shows, Movies Under the Stars (recent movies shown nightly on the 15th deck; unfortunately, it was too cold most of the trip to watch them, even bundled up in the blankets provided!), and indoor movies every afternoon. Crown Princess review: movies under the stars There are lots of fun onboard activities – free Zumba classes, line dancing classes, a paper plane contest, an egg drop from the 3rd floor atrium, informational lectures (about the destinations and general cybersecurity tips), bingo, arts and crafts, for-fee yoga and spinning classes, art auctions, a style show, digital electronics classes and more. A seasonal event we got to witness was the Valentines Day balloon drop. Hundreds of pink and red balloons were suspended by a net over the central atrium all day on Feb. 14, and in the evening, they were released with great fanfare to float dramatically to the floor below. An onboard book club is available; interested passengers can check a copy of the pre-selected book out from the ship’s library, then meet at the end of the cruise to discuss it. An onboard guest chorus is also formed (no try-outs necessary); the group performs four or five selections on one of the last cruise days. (I participated in the chorus on a previous cruise and it was a lot of fun.)Crown Princess Review: chorus A free phone app for ship activities and info is available. This can be used in place of or in addition to the daily printed Princess Patter activities list. Food in the formal dining room is good, but the menu doesn’t include steak or beef every night, which is a change from previous cruises — and it disappointed me. Food in the informal dining room is so-so. The layout of the informal dining room’s cafeteria is absolutely horrible. All the food is displayed in a ridiculously small area and must be accessed from a single buffet line; a much larger space and separate buffet stations for various food categories would be a huge improvement. The line moves at a snail’s pace, with people hopping in and out of it randomly and people going both directions at once. Choosing food there is very chaotic!Crown Princess review: information dining room cafeteria line A “hidden” second cafeteria line located a short distance away — and generally open only for breakfast — eliminates having to use the super-crammed, slow informal food line described above. Tip: find it and use it! The ship has a number of self-service laundromats, which is great for a long trip. However, the machines in them don’t all work — causing confusion and frustration, and the vending machine selling small packets of detergent is horribly designed; every single purchase requires the user to insert a stick-like object to pry the box off of a shelf it gets stuck on inside! Shore excursions are varied and interesting. Since this trip wasn’t a “beach cruise” like trips to the Caribbean and Mediterranean, the shore excursions were unique and included tours to ranches and penguin rookeries in addition to guided bus tours of major cities. When the weather is warm and you’re returning from a shore excursion, a crew member waits outside the ship to hand you an icy cold towel. It’s heavenly. The most interesting — and expensive! — shore excursion on this cruise is a one-day helicopter trip to Antarctica, which costs $3,500! We met two people who’d signed up for it, but they didn’t get to go due to inclement weather. They ended up going to a nature preserve in South America instead, but were only receiving a partial refund since a tour guide was flown over from Antarctica before the trip was determined to be a “no go” and that person and her transportation had to be covered. Princess has always been my favorite cruise line, but there were several problems on this trip with tender boats that were very frustrating. At one port where we expected to dock at the port, we were notified at the last minute that tenders must be used instead. And there weren’t nearly enough tenders to accommodate all the passengers, which resulted in lengthy waits — and the cancellation of the shore excursion “Drive to the End of the World” which was the one I wanted to do most of all! I got up at 5:45 a.m. (earlier than a work day!) for it, sat in the waiting area for 3+ hours, and then was told the excursion was cancelled. Not good. Read Less

I went on this cruise with a group as a charity fundraiser. I was pleased to be on a Princess ship as my prior experiences with Princess were wonderful. We upgraded to a balcony room and the room was smaller than a normal size room. The food on this ship was only mediocre. The choices were limited for dinner and the "always available" choices tasted like yesterday's dinner. Our waiter was a nice young man with no personality. His assistant was personable, but seemed new. For example, we asked for extra butter with our rolls. We were a table of six and were served 3 small balls of butter. He said that was all he was allowed to give us at a time. I asked for extra ice cubes each meal. On prior cruises, if I asked for something once, it appeared every day at dinner. On this cruise I was brought four cubes if I asked. In the cabin, the drawers did not work and we had to yank them out to get in them. The desk was not wiped off for 3 days even though it was stained. On a good note, the entertainment was the best I had encountered on any of my cruises. I will travel with Princess again but only on transatlantic voyages on Regal or Royal Princess. Read Less

The Horizon Buffet a very bad you enter in and a exit out at the other end to small people dropping food bumping into each other system very poor and not enough tables your carry food around and by time you sit everything is cold, try to get eggs over easy waste of time the fry in advance and put on heated platter and by the time you get it its hard boiled to get your food everybody going ever which way it was a Bomb shell. Just came off Royal Princess in October it was great food was wonderful I dont know why all princess cruises cant be the same on food. Crown Princess food gives Princess a bad name.. Ship was great people very friendly and many things to do they go out of their way to to cater to all adults and children with there Activiites. Read Less

This is the second Mediterranean cruise we have done A previous cruise in 2015 on the Emerald Princess was much more organised than this cruise. Queuing up for shore excursions outside the Princess Theatre was a debacle and should have been managed better. The number of tenders used for some shore excursions were totally insufficient for the number of passengers booked on shore excursions. Never seen such chaos as when over 2,000 passengers were all trying to get back to the ship at Olympia resulting in the ship leaving late and causing further disruption to the next day's shore excursions. Totally mismanaged and unprofessional. We were short-changed on some tours which were cut short and not given full tours that were paid for. Felt some of the entertainment was boring - didn't need to listen to someone playing musical instruments - needed more exciting entertainment. The specialty restaurant covercharge of US$29 per person was outrageous. I believe it should not be any more than US$10. The menu's were disappointing. Some of the dining staff in Michelangelo Restaurant left a lot to be desired. Took ages for food to be delivered to tables, then it was cold. Menu for 21 days at sea was boring. Each restaurant should have its own menu. Tea & coffee and juice should be free no matter where you order it from. The drinks packages are outrageous - anyone in their right mind would not have paid it. Drinks are extremely expensive - passengers have to keep remembering that everything is in US dollars and therefore a lot more expensive than they realise. Hair salon too expensive - two male hairdressers had no idea on how to blow-dry with a round brush. Had to return to cabin & redo it. Read Less

We chose this trip due to the itinerary. The ports were amazing and the rooms and beds and service were well above average. Unfortunately the entertainment was well below sub par. Nothing to do most of the sea days and cruise Director was almost never around. We have been on 5 other cruise lines with well over 150 days at sea and this was the worst entertainment we have ever had. The itinerary was the reason we choose this trip and that part was amazing. Nice long days in the ports and an absolutely beautiful part of Europe to visit. Staff was very helpful and the food was great at the buffet but a little poor in the main dinning room. They had a very small menu in the dinning room and it made it hard to find something enjoyable to eat. Bars were good and tipping was not necessary but because of that most drinks were weak but good. Good trip if you don’t care about the entertainment. Read Less

Unfortunately the food was less so. Embarkation in Rome was unbelievably quick and easy - best ever in all of our cruises! Seas were very rough early on in the cruise and we could not make port in Toulon,France due to high winds. Many cruisers were disappointed because they had booked shore excursions. It was understandable because the safety of the ship and passengers has to come first. We met some great friends on the trip and look to travel with them again. Disembarkation went well with some delays going through customs. Getting a porter was a must since we had many bags. We spent 2 weeks in Sicily with family and one week in Rome before the cruise. Balcony table should have been thrown away and replaced with new one. Drawers in cabin stucked everyday. My cabin steward was polite but not any good st all. My waiter , asst. waiter and head waiter were excellent. The food was good. The staff on 15 were great also. Someone found my water bottle on the ship and either threw it away or kept it. Coffee on 15 and formal dining was horrible. Embarkation was long and unorganized. It took a very long time. Guess service was great. This survey is time consuming and unnecessary. I feel that nothing will be done about my conserns. If the Crown Princess had been my first time using Princess it would have been my last time. The disembarkment was great. Read Less

we were looking for a 10 day cruise with good hot weather, which we did get. We have been on this ship before and it has since been refurbished but I'm not sure what parts. It seemed exactly the same as 10 years ago. Maybe the specialty restaurants which we did not go to. The cabins were exactly the same but with very mushy beds. We chose twin beds which were extremely small and too soft. They had very heavy duvets on the beds which might have ok on a trans ocean crossing but far too hot for the caribbean. The ports we went to were just ok. Bonair was very interesting. We took a ship excursion in Grenada but the driver just took us to each stop and opened the door to the van and told us nothing. I complained at the ship but they just apologized. At St.Thomas we would have had to take a taxi to town which was charging $5. per person for approx.2miles. We didn't bother. The Princess Cays was very nice. A nice time to swim in the ocean. Entertainment is very good on the Princess which is one of the reasons we keep coming back, but I would go on a newer ship if we do it again. Read Less

We traveled on the Crown Princess British Aisles Cruise mainly due to it's itinerary. It was our introduction to the British Aisles and my wife and I traveled with our next door neighbors. Let me preface this review in stating that we are Royal Caribbean regulars and are making most of our comparisons based on that. We arrived two days earlier at Heathrow and our United flight arrived 1/2 hour early around 9 pm, I was worried that our 'Shared Arrival Transfer London Airport to Hotel' booked via Trip-Advisor wouldn't be there but he was (they keep on-top of arrival info, so make sure your Flight info is updated before you fly). Even though it was a shared transport we were his only fare arriving at 9:30 pm and with little traffic at that time we checked in to the Park Plaza Victoria (which is a great hotel near Buckingham Palace) by 10:30pm. We planned to try to cram in as many highlights of London in one day as we could but realistically settled on doing the Tower of London at 9 am (it took 2-hours minimum), Westminster Abbey at noon and The Staterooms at Buckingham Palace. We purchased a Oyster card for Tube travel and began at 9 am opening at the Tower (by the time we were leaving lines to see the crown Jewels were over a hour wait so make a bee-line there first) make sure you purchase your tickets from: https://www.hrp.org.uk/tower-of-london/#gs.zywwgy before you arrive otherwise the lines for tickets will take some time. Of the three we thought the Abbey was the highlight. We pre-purchased reserved seats (reserved for an extra 3-pounds each) for 10 am on National Express bus from Victoria Coach station (.6 minute walk from the Park Plaza Victoria) to Southampton Coach Station for $13.50 each one way. Note that as we were getting on our bus the Princess Bus Transportation was loading right next to us. When we arrived in Southampton at noon we immediately got a taxi to the cruise ship for 8 pounds. Embarkation using the Medallions was quick and we were on board by 1:30pm. This is a port intensive cruise with only two at sea days so we chose anytime dining because of the late sale-away times. We didn't want to be tied to a set dinner time. With the ship off a refresh dry dock in 2018 I was surprised by the state of disrepair we noticed around the ship. Vinyl applique sheets peeling off elevator surfaces, numerous dents on hallway walls, Tile baseboards held in place by caulk in numerous public bathrooms, two drawer fronts came off when opening in our stateroom. All small items but they all add up to create a sense that quality workmanship & maintenance are not a high priority Didn’t think much of the common areas in the ship, it had a closed in small feel with very few views of the ocean. The main Piazza area was only three stories high and had very little room to watch entertainment. Typical shops jewelry, watches, overpriced souvenirs, lacking any sundries shopping that you might have forgotten to pack. Photo services lacked any creativity, probably due to lack of any open spaces to take them. Entertainment was hit or miss, enjoyed the comedians, magician (card tricks), band that played every night, Thought the stage shows were lacking, they don’t come close to the quality found on Royal Caribbean ships, we watched for the first 10-15 minutes and gave up. Food in the main dining room was good nothing outstanding. Many of the meals were very small portioned, my cocoa pork loin while probably the best tasting dish on the cruise was five bite sized pieces. Shrimp cocktail has the smallest shrimp I’ve ever seen, formal night lobster tails were small and dry. Every night we’d get recommendations of 1-2 dishes to avoid from wait staff , that’s never happened before (clue get rid of dishes that don’t work). Wait staff for the most part were amazing in all venues. The Horizon Court buffet was also good, nothing outstanding, hard to find seats during breakfast especially on sea days. Over easy eggs on the egg station were either over hard or often cold, scrambled eggs had an odd taste leaving the only way to get a good egg dish was thru the omelet station. Free coffee only available in dining rooms were brewed weak. No free coffee or tea at the International Café (free coffee and always available on Royal Caribbean ships similar venues). International café had a great selection of salads snacks, pressed sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, pastries, cookies, deserts and a Gelato station charging 3-scoops for $3.50. Best Pizza I’ve had on a cruise, Salta Dog Grille, on Lido Deck poolside, burgers and dogs were good, offered signature Ernesto Burger for $5 or the Ernesto w/Beer for $8 (no brainer since a bottle of beer was $6.75). We booked the Princess transfer to Heathrow which was the lest expensive and most worry free way of departing. We disembarked at 9:15 am buss departed the port at 10:15 and arrived at Heathrow at 11:30am for a 3:30pm flight. Our travel companions had a 1:30pm flight and disembarked the ship at 6:15am. Overall my main reason for booking this cruise was for the ports. While I was hoping for more (we all do), what I received was a decent cruise on a aging ship. Princess needs to pull a page from Royal Caribbean’s playbook and treat every ship like it’s our best ship, staying on top of maintenance, providing the best in entertainment, amaze us with great food venues. If Royal had offered the same itinerary, I would have cruise with them hands down. Again I was hoping for more, I wanted to be wowed, I could have been a convert to Princess. Maybe all princess ships aren’t the same but I don’t want to waste another vacation hoping for more. Read Less

We chose this cruise because the ports of call included some places we had not been. WE chose Princess because the value and service are always dependable. Our expectations were met with the exception of food at dinner in the 2 regular dining rooms. It was not very good. WE had Club Dinning Class which helped because we had a dedicated MaitreD for our section who made up for the regular menu... If the food had been better the overall rating would easily have been a 4 - 4 1/2.. I guess it is the luck of the draw... Past Princess cruises have been OK.... That being the case Norweigen has changed their food dramatically and it is Great!! Princess should take a cruise from them. On the other hand, Princess had 3 shows during our 11 nite cruise that were the best cruise shows we have ever seen. They had a soprano singing pop songs choreographed like a Broadway spectacular. Ship showed a little age but not too much to seriously detract. Service was very good and embarkation and debarkation were the best we have seen. Read Less

I like the southern Islands, and the weather is great this time of year. The boarding was great, we went right on the ship at 11am. The Crown is a bit aged, and did wobble a bit, even though seas were not rough. I was not impressed with desserts on ship especially at lunch buffet. A sheet cake or brownie would have been far better than what they were serving. I was not impressed with having to sit, order and wait for lemonade or ice tea. The pizza was great, but hamburgers came frozen from box, hot dogs were good. I was happy and surprised that they had on demand movies for free in stateroom. There were a lot of activities listed but felt like there was very little to do. Casino slots were not very generous, it's just not fun to lose a hundred in a few minutes with no return. I don't really care for singers and dancers, which seemed to be what they mainly had in princess theater. I would prefer comics, magic, or juggling. They did have comedians but mainly in small venue with limited seating. The medallion system showed promise but was clunky, and only seemed to work on 1000 dollar phones. The islands and beaches were amazing and we'll worth visiting. The price was great but we were inside, tried for upgrade. Ship did not seem near full but they insisted there were no upgrades, even for upcharge. Disembarkation was disorganised, we took a tour at Fort lauderdale. We were told were to get luggage then sent back into line with rest of passengers disembarking ship. This caused tour to get going an hour late.[ Read Less
