I'll start by saying that we are a family of 4 adults who only chose Princess based on the ports of call in the Mediterranean. It was chosen for Santorini and Naples, in August where other lines did one but not the other. We have cruised before, one of which was a similar Mediterranean cruise but different ports. I'll start with the positives. The food and bar staff are exceptional, their willingness to serve and make sure you want for nothing cannot be matched. Similarly, pool staff, room stewards and entertainment crew, all were fun and friendly and give the impression they at least like their jobs. The food is as good as you can expect when prepared for such huge volumes, variety is fresh and varied. The 3 "speciality" restaurants are good for an extra fee it's worth doing at least one. What they don't tell you: this cruise is predominantly over 50's. The activities are therefore geared to that demographic, which of course is fine, but could be clearer when brochures get done up. The pool is deathly silent and reminiscent of a scene from Cocoon. Can't comment t on kids clubs or a riviries but middle pools are basically kids everywhere. Lifts are slow, cause it takes people ages to get in and out, and I found the "elite" passengers almost snobbish. Gratuity as is expected on most cruise is set but no one can explain how it's divided and to who? I have no issues tipping, as long as it's going to the right people. I'm suspect staff get any of it, best switch it off and tip your favourites at end of cruise. Don't forget laundry and back of house peeps though. The negatives: Apparently high winds prevented us, for safety reasons stopping at Santorini. This is a port that requires tender ( small boat) transfer. They replaced it with Corfu. To say we were dissappointed would be an understatement; But, safety is important and although Corfu was horrendous we made the best of a bad situation. ( don't do hop on hop off there everything you can see is walking distance from port) upon return to the ship we find out 2 other cruise ships made it in to port with no problems. ( Please explain) Front desk staff are just outright rude. They don't care if you lose something, report something broken or heaven forbid need an explanation of excessive pre authorisation holds on your credit card. You see as is expected they want to keep your account in credit, however, even if you settle your bill half way through, they retain the holds. Essentially double billing, they don't cancel holds till you get off, and can't really explain why they do this. Lastly it's basically a 21 day cruise broken up into 3 X 7 day cruise, should also be on brochures. So at Athens, Barcelona and Rome people get on and off. While your card and room stay the same they do treat it as a new cruise or end of cruise. Again, this is my experience for a family of 4, who have cruised before and had similar expectations. Do research to make sure this is for you. Read Less

My wife and I booked 10 days Med cruise from Rome to Barcelona starting April 28, 2018. Two years ago we did British Isles cruise on Caribbean Princess and were satisfied with food, staff, entertainment etc. But this time on Crown Princess things were not so good, though embarkation was fast and easy. I attached 2 tags to each suitcase to find out latter that one suitcase is not delivered to my cabin due to both missing tags. As soon as we had entered our cabin we discovered that cabin assigned for us by Princess, has in fact two additional bunk beds on the walls and as a result our double bed had restricted passageways on both sides. I immediately complained to customer service supervisor who has a smell of alcohol in his breath and he had assured in a rude manner that this is exactly what I booked, period. I also requested to be connected with Customer Relations but was told that ship doesn't have telephone connection with headquarters at the moment. Unfortunately I did not choose the cabin at the time of booking because Princess as a part of promotion package promised to upgrade the cabin location and had chosen cabin E516 for 4 persons (2 bunk beds) just above Crooner bar, so we can "enjoy" music till 11PM. Just to mention I had a major spinal cord surgery a year ago which made it difficult for me to go around 12" protruded Bunk bed. Whilst complaining about cabin, I found my luggage at the reception desk missing all two tags I attached to it?! The food and entertainment were below average. During mooring at Kotor Bay the ship was dragged by strong wind dangerously close to the shore and listed, hitting sea bottom. Local captain then helped to move ship away from shore and in Corfu divers checked the ship for possible problems. Fortunately we were able to make it to Barcelona. Waiting staff was mostly nice and helpful, cabin was cleaned regularly and on time. Front desk staff was helpful especially Odeth (Mexico) she tried to help us with our cabin problem but management apparently was not concerned at all. I did not take any shore excursions, I planned to take because Princess increased internet prices about 20 days before the cruise. It cost me much less for more to use local Salerno Ferris from Piazza Concordia to explore most of Amalfi Coast without problem. One with better mobility could even explore Sorrento as well. As to other ports of call we found another couple to share taxi rides/ personal excursions with us which was cost/time more effective. In terms of fitness the ship has very small area on upper level for running and walking, the other ships designed better, though one might walk at the Promenade area Deck 7. Read Less

My husband and I had been looking forward to trying Princess for the 1st time. We had cruised on several other cruise lines and had heard that Princess was a class above Carnival or Norwegian. Unfortunately, we found that this particular ship was not the best food by any means. The buffet had the same selections every day, nothing was hot and there was always a long line. Sometimes had a hard time finding anything we liked. Seating was very limited and there were no other choices other than pizza, hamburger, hot dogs, cold sandwiches and maybe 1 carved meat. Tried the carved meat for lunch one day and you couldn't even cut it. The dinner wasn't any better, food was always cold and no good choices. Had prime rib one night and was cold to the touch, along with the sides. We had anytime dining and usually don't have any trouble getting a seat for 2 but, on this ship if you don't take a large table with a group you will find yourself waiting for 30-45 minutes to get a table. Entertainment was a big disappointment. The only music in the evenings was classical, ballroom dancing or instrumentals. The theatre was extremely small and if you didn't get there early there were no seats. You can't even get around people that are sitting down since they are so close together. Everywhere you went in the evening it was very hard to find seats, there is just not much entertainment and so everyone is going to the same place. We went to 5 theatre shows and only liked 1 of them very well. Not our normal productions that we are used to. They only had a comedy show one evening & he was very good but we are used to at least a couple of them. Didn't have karaoke very often either. The pools were nice, but chairs are limited. We did like our room and our room steward who was Antonio, he was the best. Our bed was very hard and we requested a mattress topper and a cover sheet because they do not give you a top sheet. This was a first for us, I don't like covering up with a comforter that is probably not washed frequently. Very quiet in the hallways, liked the type of people cruising on the ship. Ordered room service one evening and it was not good, sandwich had 1 shaved slice of roast beef and no taste. Tried the Crown Grill one evening and out of a rating of 10 I would give it a 5, but we were tired of the dining room. The steaks were just ok, nothing exceptional for $29 per person, potatoes were very small and not done well. Rolls were hard just like they were in the dining room. Must be leftovers that they use over and over. We were looking forward to trying the Salty Dog since the hamburger looked fabulous in a picture and they said it was the best on the seas. We saw someone eating one and it looked no bigger than a slider. There was never anyone there either. Service throughout the ship was very poor other than our room steward. Don't expect to have bar wait staff coming around much to bring drinks. Casino was not as lively as we have seen on others and didn't see anyone winning including us. The ship is very dated although it is going in for dry dock for 2 weeks. Don't know how much they will get done in that length of time. Embarkation and disembarkation was very smooth and quick. There are so many ships to choose from we don't believe I will come back to Princess unless they make changes. Read Less

Have always wanted to see Quebec and New England States. Next time I will choose a smaller vessel, and earlier time of the year to travel. The ship needed a lot of updating, especially the bathroom in the rooms. Much too old, too worn and too small. The dining in the restaurants were outstanding, the buffet was just okay and your choices were limited as far as main dishes and desserts (except cookies) all tasted store bought. Fruit was not ripe and the help was very nice. Entertainment was poor. Elton John was horrid. Comic had poor taste in jokes. The quartets about the ship were great. Our service was always top notch. Port excursion expensive. Getting off the ship was terrible--very steep, with no one to help you down.Lines very long to leave the ship. Again, thought the staff was amazing. Would not travel this large of a ship again and this old of a ship. . Read Less

We wanted to visit the countries nearer the artic circle, especially Iceland. We have done about 6 Princess Cruises over past 15 years, and without doubt we have found that since Princess Cruises sold out to Carnival, the standards have dropped dramatically, while the dollar gouging has increased with hidden charges and overpriced ship items. The compulsory tipping levy to me has always been a bit much, not allowing individual passengers to choose who to tip and with what amount. Princess should increase wages and include in the fare costs, not hide this cost in compulsory tipping. The staff were exemplary despite their low wages, providing warm and excellent service throughout the ship. But and it is a big BUT, the food quality and range available has decreased dramatically, with most savoury food being over seasoned especially with salt, and getting to the stage that just about every savoury dish started to taste the same with similar seasoning. Very off putting if you are on a 2-3 week cruise. Range of sweet foods was ok but not imaginative, leaving one seeking on shore restaurants when available for some respite and pleasure. Range of activities are dull and rather childish in many cases, not providing stimulating adult entertainment, especially when at sea for 4 days straight in wet stormy weather.....boring. My advice....if looking at Princess for your next cruise...look elsewhere as there is much better on offer with other cruise lines now. Read Less
